I can't find it :-( can't even buy it on gameloft website, the youtube video is gamelofts official page, premature me thinks!

God I can't wait!
I loved the production quality of this game on iPhone, but controlling anything but strategy/role-playing games with a touch screen is simply garbage. I'll finally get to realize this game FOR REAL on my Xperia PLAY!
...once my 32GB comes in... my 16GB has about 113MB free lol.

YES!
Been wanting to play this since it came out on iOS. My iPod Touch couldn't run it xD
When is it out!

I would pay $5 for it...looks good and reminds me of uncharted!

Gameloft games are ripoffs of most games... I was wondering how long the game play is. It was really annoying with sacred odyssey because it didn't take that long to complete the game.

Agree.
But......this doesn't make them bad.
Alot of Gameloft games are very good. And besides, all games follow the same format anyway. They all rip each other off.
Modern day gaming gets on my nerves alot too. Look at the original Megadrive versions of Sonic the Hedgehog for example.
They are still better than every other 2D platform game released on any system since.
Most of todays 2D platform games (or 3d side scrolling platformers) are terrible in comparison.

Super Magnetic Neo, Sonic Adventure and Loco Roco are vastly superior to the Sonic 2D titles. I would say SMN and LR could enjoy a second chance in mobile due to its gameplay mechanics.

These are 3d games, when i clearly stated 2d (or 3d side scrolling) games
(Never played Loco roco so cant comment on that though).
I personally think Sonic Adventures were amazingly crap compared to Sonic 1/2/3

Sadly it is the case.. It's too great a task to emulate a system with 1/4 the hardware of the host. Sony could do it, I fathom, because they can reprogram all they like as the original kit is theirs, but it is not in their plans as it would cost them dear.

My old 2.2 ghz duo core PC with 4670 Radeon couldn't smoothly run PS2 emulators.
A stock Xperia Play has no chance.
An overclocked Play at 1.4-1.6 ghz with a massively optimised PS2 emulator MIGHT be able to run some games smoothly.
But it won't ever happen.
No developer is going to spend all his time doing this for free, and based on the extremely poor PS1 sales, Sony won't bother either.

i doubt the PS1 sales would be so low if they had some decent titles available.
I don't think they care about their PS1 sales at all. The cost of making an emulator (provided that you MADE the original hardware), ripping some ROMs off their database and encrypting them is minute. I am sure licensing Final Fantasy games alone would be more costly than any other cost involved.

Maybe. Maybe not.
The graphics and gameplay are quite bad in all honesty in PS1 games.
The Xperia Play is getting a nice list of games worth purchasing that are way better than the PS1 titles.
Backstab, Spiderman, Nova 2, Assassins Creed, Guns n Glory, Bruce Lee, Cordy, Asphalt 6, Sacred Odessy, Tom Clancy.
The list goes on and on and on. All of these games are excellent. And Gameloft and Glu and others are continuing to make excellent games.
The graphics rock, the games rock.
And best of all, you can pick them up for £1. (about 1.5 USA dollars).
Incredible value for money.
Why bother with PS1 games again?

Maybe because almost every game in the Android market was probably taken from a PS1 game idea or from prior consoles, and shown in its best quality there? Or even in Android itself?
Backstab, Assasin's Creed and so on can be perfectly compared to Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid.
Cordy is an absolute COPY of Pandemonium.
There were Spiderman games in PS1.
Asphalt has much more interesting counterparts (Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, Test Drive...).
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six... erm... well, featured in PSX.
And needless to say, there are 6 or 7 sagas of fighting games which wipe the floor with Bruce Lee.
Sacred Oddysey? Take Diablo, Vagrant Story... surely those games which stood the test of time did not need any DLC to keep gamers hooked.
NOVA 2 does even have a counterpart in the PSStore: Syphon Filter.
I won't even comment on a tower defense game such as Guns and Glory.
The list does go on and on and on and on. I'll pick interesting gameplay for 2002-worthy graphics any time.

I have been gaming since before the spectrum 48k. Playstation games are copies of their previous incarnations of games machines before them too.
I guess you started gaming when the ps1 came out and your mind sees it as "the originator of everything"
Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of ps1 games on my phone and play them with fpse. Currently playing point blank and time crisis, both of which I owned with the force feed kick back gun btw
My point wasn't to bash the ps1, but rather highlight the fact that gameloft games are pretty dam awesome that makes the ps1 titles take a back seat

While this is true for emulation, it isn't necessarily for ports. The PS2 uses a RISC-Processor and with a bit luck, it's features are still (partly) present in our ARM-Processor, which is basically a RISC with more features (altho possibly completely different ones). This holds also true with PSP games, which are probably even easier to port, as the PSP has a much less complex processor than the PS2 and just more power.
So, basically, we COULD see PS2/PSP ports on the Play - it's just a question if Sony can be arsed to produce them. Then again, they're apparently currently hard at work porting PSP games to the PS3 as "HD Remakes" - so who knows, maybe they'll port them with the Playstation suite already and as such, they'll work on our Play/Tegra 2 Android Devices/NGP.
My first real conscious gaming was on the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis (I was 5 yo when I beat Sonic The Hedgehog ). But there is no denying that the PSOne, as the first successful 3D-console, allowed for the first time to explore concepts then-revolutionary which are now, almost 20 years later, dead horses. Your point is valid, the PSOne had very successful sagas coming from very old ideas, such as Worms...
The problem is not only that these Gameloft, Glu and other big name companies' games are not innovative, which can be of course excused because you can make good unoriginal games anytime, but that their innovations tend to focus on three aspects: quick gaming and gratification (achievements), social gaming (aka more MMORPGS and social-cooperative games like Farmville and the whole lot) and the ways to monetize said gaming (in-game adverts, DLC).
Of course, these characteristics make sense in a smartphone, a multi-tasking device which you won't usually use for the same purpose for hours, and particularly not gaming because it is uncomfortable; aside of that, it's a device you use to communicate with other people, so it makes sense that the "social" angle of gaming (sharing achievements, shed light to MMORPGs and SCGs) is exploited: and of course, given that they're simple games that people don't like to be charged large sums for, it's normal that you want to explore advertising as a revenue source.
However, I would say that heavy gamers (the people who buy this phone) crave for something deeper, games with complex stories, puzzles and strategic thinking: RPG's, strategic games à la Fire Emblem, graphical adventures... None of that is present in our devices: Zenonia is a fairly good game for a Zelda-like, but the English translation is absolutely horrible, which deprives a lot from the story's epos. Spectral Souls costs $15, no thanks. Sacred Oddysey requires DLC...
It's just too big a clash: when I was young enough to be scammed into buying game magazines, games like Angry Birds would have been massacred in magazines and panned in sales, and now they're all-present and hailed as some sort of vanguard. I am terrified that some day Superman 64 will come back to life with slightly improved graphics, revamped with some of its multiplayer karting and become a smashing success.

Sure.
Here's a list of games i think that are either superior or just as good as any PS1 game in the same genre (mostly i think they are superior btw) -
Nova 2
Asphalt 6
Need for Speed Shift
BackBreaker 2
Dungeon Defenders Second Wave
Assasins Creed
Bruce Lee
Sacred Odyssey
Star Battalion
Guns n Glory
BackStab
Cordy
Hockey Nations 2011
Aporkalypse
Age of Zombies
Modern Combat 2
Guerrilla Bob
Toki Toki
Reckless Racing
Real Football 11
Spiderman
Air Attack HD
Brother in Arms 2
Avatar
Lets Golf 2
That's quite a few excellent games for a machine thats only just been released.
Don't forget that the Sega Saturn only got released with 4 games.
Playstation 1 only launched with 8 titles - http://thiskidplaysgames.com/home/playstation-one/256-playstation-one-launch-titles
I think the lineup of the Xperia Play games are better than the PS1 launch titles.
What you have to remember is that todays systems suffer from fragmentation. You do not get massive marketing deals with everybody playing the same thing. When everybody plays the same games it creates more of a buzz and can make the experience better.
Yea, todays gaming can be more lonely, sometimes you can feel like you are the only one playing a particular game. But you have to overlook this and go by the quality of the actual game.
Xperia Play has already some excellent games. Is it going majorly mainstream? No, ofc not. But still, the game quality of already released titles is excellent.
I am afraid we'll have to agree to disagree. Casual-oriented games and sports titles with PS2-worthy graphics are not what I'd call compelling. Have you tried Real Football? They move like dolls. PES 2006 and 2007 in the PSP were actually good... sigh.
Let's see what the E3 brings, but I'm afraid that so far I'm unconvinced.

Street Fighter wasn't original to the ps1 though was it. And that was a main point about our debates.
Tekken was the closest "original" beat em up on the ps1 imo and that was even an arcade port.
Bruce Lee is better than Tekken imo too although I am not a fan of any 3d 1v1 fighting game if I am going to be honest. I think they all suck.
Can't beat street fighter 2 turbo edition for 1v1 fighters

Need some game reccomendations

Hey guys, getting my new XPlay here in a couple of days. Of course I'm going to be jumping right into emulation, playing all my old favorites. However, I'm also interested in checking out the latest and greatest Android games, and was looking for some reccomendations since you guys are sure to know the top games in each genre.
The two types of games I'm looking forward to most would be a 3D FPS, and I would want this game for its multiplayer mode. I want to be able to jump in to a deathmatch game on my Play quickly and have a good time.
I also love RPGs, the more open-world the better. Are there any games that fit this bill on Android? Thanks for the responses, guys.
For FPS,i think Battelfield 2 and some other shooter are good.
But you have to pay for em
Rpgs: There are a few,not alot of favourites but check out ZENONIA .
So does Bad Company 2 have a multiplayer component on the Play? How does it compare to NOVA 2 or Modern Combat 2?

Oh and,you might have to make up your mind fast about BFC2,since EA dont like that Android is a nest of cheaters that download it for free =/
i love modern combat 2! personally think it is the best fps on the play

Bad company is the best fps, best controls and graphics, but dont have multiplayer.
Modern combats controls its to hard for me.
Rainbow six is great and have a great multiplayer.
Pocket legend is a great Mmo
1 word: minecraft!

What kind of games would you like to see in the future?

I would love to see a Dragonball z game.
Use a emu to play dbz for now
A realistic car racing game. The most realistic car racing game we have is NFS:Shift. I usually emulate Gran Turismo 2 but I want something else. Maybe something similar to Gran Turismo PSP.
I would also like another open world game like Gangstar, something similar to the GTA games. Maybe 9mm but openworld.'
Oh and last lastly an airplane games like HAWX. or atleast make HAWX with Xperia Play controls.
Quick Summary
Realistic Car Racing Game
Grand Theft Auto style game (Gangstar)
Hawx or Airplane game
I would love to see a an Rpg with some more thought put into it. Nothing fancy graphics wise, but at least some level of consistency graphically and depth gameplay wise. Specifically what I want would be like zelda graphics meets a bethesda game. Open world (not 3d though, just top view 2d), input on dialog, quest with no specific order, real time fighting, and character / skill customization. Probably not gonna happen though. I think bethesda has spoiled me and made me expect to much from games

Lesee... we're full to the brim on RPGs... old school, new school, Japanese-style and western-styled. Abundant in MMORPGs... overloaded on every kind of Third Person/First-Person shooter known to man, living the dream life with platformers, full of options for tactical games, loaded with simple fun puzzlers, we have a decent selection of SH'MUPS already... and if I see one more goddamn ************* two-stick shooter I might just puke...
...but the one thing we just don't have is a definitive fighting game.
All I want is one definitive fighting game. Online play is an absolute must.
Even though Further Beyond Fighting didn't feel "professional" I had a lot of fun with that, and Bruce Lee surprised me in a number of ways... but I don't feel like either one of them were "definitive" fighting game experiences. I'm thinking something along the lines of how iPhone's Street Fighter IV: Volt would be if it was risen out of "the touch-screen control ghetto" for an Xperia PLAY release.
An RPG game officially released by Square Enix, probably The Last Remnant for Android lol..
or the frustrated rumor Final Fantasy 7 remake for PS3 android
I'd like to see a marvel vs capcom style fighting game

What's the best RPG?

Hi everyone. Just want a bit of help really. I want a good Final Fantasy type RPG to sink my teeth into, and was wondering which you all think is the best. Every time I look on the Market I just keep getting MMO's, lol. It can be either 2D or 3D.
hey, i visit these forums everyday but i just forgot i had an account xD by the way, i know some titles.
Symphony of Eternity (JRPG)
Eve of the Genesis (JRPG)
Zenonia 1,2,3 (Action-JRPG much like 2d zeldas)
Eternal Legacy (JRPG, its the gameloft version of FF13, i think its quite boring)
these are also endless possibilities with emulators. even if you don't have an xplay, JRPGs are playable on touchscreen
i'd also like to expand the topic a little bit. I'm searching for western rpgs, as close as elder scrolls as possible. On android, there are some open world games like GTA3 or GOF2, but they are not rpgs, also there's no fantasy medieval setting. Earth and legend is kinda sucky and boring. Dungeon hunter 2 is a bad diablo/torchlight clone.
Then, there are emulators. On the psx theres diablo which is awesome and addictive, but its far from being a WRPG. There is also a jap-only version of ultima underworld but its, ya know... jap-only. On the snes there is ultima 6, might and magic 3, and eye of the beholder. The former has a strange system (can't really figure out what to do), the latter two are candidates even if they have parties and the action window is small. Haven't tried them yet. Exact same for Mazes of fate on the GBA. On the n64 there's gauntlet legends which is like diablo if i'm not mistaken. Then there's of course zelda OOT, MM and a bunch of horrible games like quest 64. The zelda titles are of course awesome but they're not what i'm looking for.
Someone has managed to get daggerfall running on andosbox. I tried and it went slow and laggy as in his video. However he pm'd me saying it can be made to run at full speed.
In the end, i'd really like suggestions, on android games and emulators alike. I hope i haven't gone off topic, just wanted to help bluescorpion and to not get clumsy with a redundant topic.

Thanks for the help man, I'll try them out. And I totally forgot about my emulators, lol. I'm gonna DL FFV and Secret of Mana.
I wish you could get the original Fallout on Android.
I've had a hell of a fun time playing Eve of Genesis. There are so many hidden items to obtain, extra bosses after the "final" boss and a lot of customization with the characters and skills.
Zenonia 3 was also a lot of fun. Very hack and slash but good for a playthrough. This game also has extra content after beating the game the first time. There is a "Hard" mode and a "Hell" mode as well.
SNES RPGs are plentiful. Don't think I need to go into the mainstream ones but if you haven't played Treasure Hunter G, find a translated ROM immediately and play it. Only released in Japan but it's an amazing game.
No problem man fallout is completely mouse driven, right? dunno if that could work for me. I also thought about GemRB for baldur's gate ecc., is it worth it? does it work on the gamepad? I think many of those games need mouse anyway.
as for JRPGs, if you take emulators into account there's a whole lot even of non-mainstream ones. On the SNES try Star Ocean, Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia, on the PSX try Persona, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve (the first one), Chrono Cross and Wild Arms. Of course if you don't know them already.
Huh, onlive has the witcher. Can it be played on the xplay? I can't try as i'm not in uk/us. Maybe there's a way around that
You can always emulate classic PsOne RPGs like FF7 8 9 on FPSE if you're feeling
android RPGs are bad..
On my case I'm still playing Spectral Souls and its a good one for me.. Id also want to try out Generation of Chaos but buying a second pricey RPG game is too much for me right now. But hyperdevbox games speaks for itself, their games are good compared to other games which looks like it was made from RPGmaker.
Ive tried Eternal Legacy since it has nice graphics but I quit playing after a few hours since I find less action and effort of Gameloft here to actually even clone Final Fantasy. I hate that you can only select commands for the main character and just select a command profile for the other party members.. *sigh*
that's my main thoughts on the turn-based RPGs.
If Im going to play a slash-and-destroy-your-way RPG I'd definitely pick Dungeon Hunter over cartoony Zenonia series but both are good games you should get.
But right now, aside from hyperdevbox RPGs, I'd say PSOne RPGS are still best.

I recommend Castle of Shadows.. looks pretty good, kinda interesting story and it's fun
But.. I'm not sure if it's the sort of game you are looking for.
For me, there's not a single mobile game that has the character or charm of even the worst console/PC game.

Truthfully, I would have to agree with you on that. I'm not feeling the love for many of the mobile games. Maybe I'm just old, I dunno. Although I do like plenty of newer PC RPGs. **cough Skyrim** But that is a different animal all together. The Zenonia series deserves a good score though, it's a good action RPG. Also, Pocket Legends seems good enough to be a totally free MMO. Neither of those are really like Final Fantasy though. Run all the PSOne Final Fantasy games though PSXPeria and/or FPSE and you'll be in heaven. I'm playing through Final Fantasy Tactics right now. I'm also after the dozens of PSOne RPGs that I never got too, such as Xenogears, Grandia and Chrono Cross. Google something like Top PSX RPGs and you'll find tons of top 10 type lists with lots of RPGs.
Use GameBoid to emulate Golden Sun and its sequel.
Final fantasy tactics, front mission 3,

You won't find a single mobile phone game at sixty dollars either. I'm afraid good story telling, scripting and so on has its price and it will never get cheaper, it's not like graphical power which has catch-up economies and gets cheaper to use with time.
I agree with logs, your comparing 2 diffrent genres, mobile games are cheap to make and cheap to buy, console games have massive budgets and hundreds maybe thousands of people involved in the development, where as mobile games would be lucky to have a team of 10 programmers.

If you're looking for something that's actually console-quality, go for Spectral Souls and Generation of Chaos.
Kind of unfair listing those since they are actually full-on console ports, but hey... they're in unplayable condition on PSP, so Android's pretty much their only real releases. I'll let you know right now that, if you can leap over that psychological "Holy ****, that's $15 for a goddamn phone game!" barrier, you'll have found the games that don't 'feel' like mobile phone RPGs.
Honestly, I don't mind the mobile phone RPGs either. Symphony of the Eternity, Alphadia and Eve of the Genesis have brought me something I've been wanting for a while... some Final Fantasy-like games from their 2D prime that have a new, fresh feel.
yeah, i forgot about Spectral Souls, but i've never been into strategy RPGs, i thought he didn't want that stuff.
Hey TLR, i sent you a pm on youtube about open world WRPGs, could you give it a look when you have time? It can also add a bit to the discussion here

That license check can be worse than on the Vita for locking me out of my games with Android.
Doesn't always happen, but when it does it's usually at the worst possible time, like riding on a Greyhound bus and all of a sudden my Kemco games fail to verify my license.
Shell Razer,
Deathworm,
Hungry Shark
Real Drift
angry birds

I can recommend you gameboy / nintendo ds emulators as they provide a clearly better game experience than this crappy games made for android.
ALL TIME BEST for NDS is DraStic --> DraStic Nintendo DS emulator . There are many different emulators, but this is the only one REALLY provides lagfree gaming.
For GB you can choose between many free apps by searching the Playstore
Even using a "DOS Box" to play classic dos games seems to be more sensefull. I just don't get how people love to play all these poor android games >.<
right now where is my water 2 and despicable Me: Minion rush
