Is there a way to use the built in mobile hotspot without rooting or installing a custom ROM?
( I currently have a Samsung Captivate, rooted, running a custome ROM (Mosiac VI by Team Phoenix) and can use Mobile AP. However, I do not see a stable Gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM In the Infuse 4G Developer Section.)
If not, can it be accessed by rooting only? Or do I need to root and load a custom ROM?
If custom ROM is necessary, any recomendations for a stable Gingerbread or a stable Froyo ROM?

root and delete tethermanager.apk or freeze it using Titanium Backup
As far as stable Froyo ROMs - all three that are available (Infused v1, Bionix, Refuse) are stable. We have a high level of dev coordination here and most of us have a "quality over quantity" attitude.
The Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM based on the Rogers release is fairly stable too - the main issues are very clearly spelled out - no HDMI and possibly a data speed regression in some areas.
CM7 is of course still under heavy development.

Hey Guys!
I am on Froyo 2.2.2 TMobUK stock rom.
I want to install the best stock rom thats not above my official version (so I can easily revery back for warrany).
By best i mean fastest and most stable.
Is there a barebones stock rom and if so does it matter over a normal rom considering I will apply miui or cyano on top.
Any help would help.

With some of the LoS Samsung Epic 4G Touch seeming to go down with EK02 kernel and/or modem, Just wondering if PhantomHacker is planning to update his excellent ROMs to base off the EK02 kernel like Calkulin's latest?
Feel free to move this to the Blazer or Starburst ROM threads.
So, my mom got a Galaxy Tab 2 a few days ago, but it seems... heavily Samsung influenced (Touchwiz and all that). I feel trying a custom ROM would help the performance of the tablet
There's a few apps on the tablet that are kind of cool, specifically Smart Remote. Could this app be installed on a custom ROM by some chance?
If you want to maintain IR functionality to run peel remote, etc you will need to stick with ROMs based on "stock" releases
IR is Samsung proprietary and they have not released the code for it. Custom ROM developers will not have access to it until Samsung decides to "allow" it
Custom ROMs that are based off of official releases that are P3113 or P3110 based should have working IR blaster
Check out some of the ROMs available in the development threads - the available options should be included in the first post of each released ROM

Root the device, install busybox, SuperSU and ESFileExplorer. Remove the Bloatware and you will have a snappy device.
Hello Experts,
I am very new to this forum. I have some doubts In installing new Codename OS for my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9003 which is currently running on gingerbread 2.3.6.
1. What is the latest compatible jelly bean based Codename android OS for my device? And where do I download it?
2. Will the Codename OS affect the performance of my device, since the new improved features of jellybean will occupy more space on my device?
3. Application compatibility in Codename android? Can we use all the applications that we generally use in official jellybean?
4. On installation of CNA custom ROM, will it be installed additionally or Official operating system will be replaced?
5. Is it possible to go back to the official gingerbread after installing the custom ROM with Codename Android?
6. Is there anything I need to pay for installing CAN?
Pls help me out..
I have same problem. I am trying to find jelly bean for Samsung Galaxy S gt i-9003
1. There are several jelly bean based custom operating systems. For example Jelly bam rom. Search here in xda or Google.
2. The os will definitely take more space than previous stock rom. But gt i9003 will have lots of internal space so there's nothing to worry about performance as long as you keep internal memory to optimum.
3. You can install all JB based apps.
4. The custom rom will not install additionally, it will replace your stock rom.
5. Yes you can revert back to stock official rom any time you wish to.
6. Performance may be increased or decreased based on the types of apps you use. Regardless you will experience a decent performance and you need not pay a penny for this instead you can donate to developers for their valuable work.
Hope this had helped you.
