Vanilla Android on Transformer? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
is there an easy way of flashing vanilla honeycomb on the transformer? i'm not interested in any cooked roms, just the pure google experience.
I don't like the additional apps and the slight ui changes that acer did, so i wonder if there is any stable vanilla android rom out there to be flashed?

If you mean one built from AOSP, I'm guessing there is none out there because the Source Code for Honeycomb is not released.

Acer?
From what I can tell, the Asus Transformer comes with stock Honeycomb. The only changes are to support the keyboard, and addition of crud like Kindle and some other bundled apps (which can be removed if you have root).
This is also the reason why we get updates so soon after Google release them, as there is not too much to tweak.

yes of course i meant asus. well they changed icons like the default home, back and apps icons from bluish tron style to white. This can't be stock honeycomb.
i know this is nitpicking, but i don't understand why they changed the icons, they just don't fit in, especially since asus left all the other ui elements unchanged...

Before I flash the Prime roms I always pull the SystemUI.apk out of the /system folder in the rom and exchange all the dock button images for the ones from the default buttons.

It's stock honeycomb with some buttons changed. That's it. Bam. As stock as it gets.

Just root, flash the stock UI and delete the other apps and its stock honeycomb. Ive been running that for a while, mainly its OCD. I didnt like that the UI of the buttons didnt match everything else in android so I swtiched to one extracted from the XOOM. Then deleted all of the myCrap and bought Splashtop HD (prefer having updating versions from market anyway.
I can see why asus changed the buttons. They are more cartoonish than the futurist versions of the stock Honeycomb UI. Nerds like us prefer the TRON theme but joe consumer probably prefers the softer UI (more like the ipad). Im sure its for those people, not us. Im betting they would have gone further if they could but the notification system seems to be pretty locked down, Ive installed phone apps and their notifications immediately become like honeycomb so something in honeycomb is changing their icons/text.

Ok sounds good enough for me. At least I'm not the only one who doesn't like the new icons...so as long as flashing a xoom build is possible that's perfectly fine...

this is from the htc sensation, but its also working on the tf.
if the status-bar is hidden by another app, there is a new look.

Looks like this will run on the TF, but does not appear to be formatted for tablets in any way.
Runs on the TF but is laggy
it runs... but it seriously isn't beautiful
There isn't any reason to run this on a Honeycomb Tablet!
I could see running this Launcher on a 2.X Tablet to kind of make it look like Honeycomb/ICS.
I did try it on my Incredible.. but didn't see the point of having the Home/Back/Menu buttons when my phone already has those hardware buttons.. kind of redundent.

soon done.
Just wondering if you all knew that this isn't an official launcher.
Its just a third party launcher made to look like the ics launcher.
yeah it looks like go launcher ex with an ics theme. not much of a win to trade our honeycomb launcher with an "old" 2.x launcher...

[Q] Thoughts on tablet/TF specific launcher

Since ADWLauncher Ex was on sale for $0.10, I gave it a wurl. It's a fine program but just doesn't fit right with me on the TF, I prefer the stock but it reminds me that the stock isn't optimus prime. On my phone, I principally use Zeam b/c that's what I'm happy with and it does what I want for my phones UX. But what is really oriented towards a tablet, let along a transformer? Everything just seems to be too phone oriented I guess and I think maybe I will play around with Terminal IDE and try making myself a launcher to play with. Maybe someday it will be a launcher that is made to fit me and my tablet like a glove (not necessary anyone else).
This got me to thinking, what do my fellow TF users find their launchers/home applications lacking?
I am always interested in learning about this sort of stuff, which is also why I tend to tune my machines to match what fits me, lol.

Actually ADW EX was great on the TF till the latest update or two. Supposedly there's gonna be a big update within a week or so.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379978
I started using adw because it was bundled in cyanogenmod. I bought it for my tf and found out just like my phone that most of the special effect transitions had to be turned off for better performance. In fact it destroyed my krakd rom and I went to prime without the animations and I have been very happy with it. I don't need 8 frickin screens to swipe through, in fact one is perfect for me.
Fascinate CM7 Stable
+1 for ADW Ex - it's the best I've seen...
What don't you like about ADW Ex - I'm curious now....
ADW EX is nice. The last update killed the hidden dock bar which I loved. But the new revamped bar works well. I only use 2 screens.

You can still hide the dockbar if you want with the latest version (was fixed in the very last version, I believe). The only remaining issue for me is that I can only have 11 icons in the dock now in landscape mode - used to be able to fit many more. Also, it lets you have 13 icons in portrait, but only 11 in landscape?!?! I did report this issue. Haven't heard back though - I'm sure the dev is getting flooded with emails....
But, ADW EX is buttery smooth... Love all of the different effects and the ability to group my apps, etc....
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure ADW EX is the only truly Tablet-capable 3rd-party launcher out there. Go Launcher works well, but it's still obviously designed for a phone.

GoLauncher has just released a beta for the 'pad' as they call it. Its a far cry from completely optimized, but stable and works well. You can get it from thier blog, or search the TF Apps and Themes forum. (so many rules, I just don't post links)

The only gain over the stock it really gives me is "Folders" and I don't like the home screen experience on the TF.

Do themes slow down your kindle?

Hey everyone. I recently flashed the Jandycane ROM for my KF, and everything is running smoothly.
However, prior to JB, I had GB with GoLauncher theme installed. My KF was rather laggy. I noticed my phone with GoLauncher was/is laggy also. Do you guys notice the same thing on your devices?
Note: I also tried ADW launcher on both my devices and the lag was still there, so I do not feel like GoLauncher was my problem.
With that being said, what is your favorite JB launcher/theme at the moment?

Jellybean is just smoother than GB. And I currently use apex launcher.
Apex.
The standard one. I like how it doesn't switch to landscape mode and mess up my icons and widgets.

Guess I'll go check out Apex right now. As for slowing down the device, does this happen to anyone else here?

I noticed a little lagginess with the themed rom also.
But, it's negligible in JB because of project butter: the baseline is so freaking smooth that even a little lag added to that is hard to notice.
But to me, the whole reason I switched back was I realized Jellybean was already themed.
By Google.
It's called the "Jellybean" theme, and the time and effort they put in to making it shows, imho.
It's got a terrific, clean, look to it;
the other rom made me think of that hot chick who thinks she's making herself hotter by wearing a ton of extra makeup.
She isn't.
She's covering up what was pretty hot to begin with.
Just my .02, and who knows..?.
Some people prefer trashy women.
(Jk, but not really.)

haha got ya on that one. I'm likely to stick with the stock Jandycane JB ROM. It's pretty customizable and has a clean look already.
My phone however (Droid Charge), probably might have to go back having no theme. It doesn't have the luxury of JB, so it's kinda slow in comparison.

That's what I use: Jandycane.
It's not themed at all; just stock Jellybean, as far as I can tell.
Stock Jellybean = Awesome the way it is, in my book.

Is anyone using ADWex...a question

Got my infinity a few days ago and have just started customizing. I used ADWex on my prime and planned on doing so with the Infinity (maybe until chameleon). Is anyone using it? Any issues so far?
One thing i noticed is that i do not have the status bar on top with the normal blue line? I was able to work around this using a shortcut to the adw settings, but i usually keep the status bar on until i am completely done with the build.
I also seem to lose all apps/widgets/icons on my main screen every 10 or so times that i hit the app drawer. hit the drawer again and they all come back.
Look forward to everyone's feedback. I had an entire hubs setup on my prime that i was going to work back to.
Thanks!

Hubs won't work because multipicture lwp lags like hell. Also, ADW is pretty outdated, hasn't been updated for a few months.
i agree it needs an update, i just havent had guts to swap launchers. I love the dock and functionality of adw.
BTW-multipicture is working on mine right now? 5 screens, 5 separate pics, no noticable lag. Are you having issues?
i have it working ok, also until chameleon (should get my beta key soon XD )
obviously increased colomns and rows for the tablet compared to my xperia s, but works well. not as smooth as i'd like, and yes its out of date by quite a long way, but ok until chameleon/jelly bean combo!
does anyone know if its ever going to be updated again, or is it dead in the water now?
I am going to assume that 90% are using stock ICS and the few that arent are APEX/NOVA right?
I just switched to ADWex because Apex and Nova were crashing all the time. The stock launcher wastes too much screen space so I was trying to find a launcher that would allow me to go edge to edge. ADWex does that and I've only had a few crashes with it.
It's an old launcher and doesn't like some widgets. I'm like everyone else, I'm waiting for Chameleon. Should get my email notice today!
Give Nova Launcher a try. Its really nice.
Do not assume any such thing...

I believe that isn't even a good working assumption. First, I suspect that first adopters are typically more experienced Android owners. In my experience, experienced users are rarely happy with many stock applications; hence not likely to be happy with the launcher and are willing to try other launchers.
For my self, I have yet to find a stock launcher whose functionality isn't limited. On my TF700t I switched it out a couple of hours after getting the tablet. Until recently I had been using, successfully, ADWlauncher EX. The other day I installed Nova Launcher to test it and it is the current 'default' launcher.
that is a good point for sure. I didnt think about the early adopter status.
Thoughts on Nova vs Adw EX?

You make us sound like angry old men unhappy with anything stock
Currently the best launcher for TF700T is..... GO LAUNCHER HD. Give it some times nothing can catch up with it. Currently it only has about 60% of the features of Go Launcher Ex. Go Launcher Ex has proved to be the top launcher for all smart phones.
Adwex is the only launcher i'll use on tablet. Soo much faster sand flexible than other launchers. Status bar is the only odd thing i've noticed, but can get to setting from menu.

Anyone else underwhelmed by the Jellybean OTA?

I've been underwhelmed by Jellybean as of late. I really don't see all of the "butter". If anything, it seems more laggy when I'm typing and I get a notification. It's self-evident Tegra 2 isn't near as powerful as Tegra 3, but I was hoping maybe Jellybean would be a huge improvement. It really seems exactly the same as ICS. We even still got stuck with the ICS wallpapers and ICS boot animation (which the boot animation makes sense since we're not an "official" nexus device, but it would've been nice regardless). Google Now is fun at first, but really I don't see why everyone was flipping out over it. The improved keyboard is still not as good as SwiftKey. The new launcher features I actually find annoying; when placing an icon, I don't want all of my others to get messed up. The bouncing temporary layout thing seems much too sensitive when I'm trying to just create a simple folder. The new browser is definitely faster thanks to V8, but the new quick controls are aggravating and I preferred the old ones where closing tabs and making new ones weren't as hidden. If anything, the new quick controls slow me down more. Chrome on Jellybean is the exact same as Chrome on ICS so I'm still using that over Browser. Am I missing any features added, or is this it? Anyone else notice any major changes except for a quicker recent apps menu?
Yeah, pretty much.
To me it looks like project butter is imitating what apple has been doing for years.
The animation is cached so it can launch quickly, giving the app time to do it's thing. It's an optical illusion.
I mean, on face value, it SEEMS to be smoother. But if you look closely you can see the lag behind the animations.
