[App BETA][Updated 10.17.11]viperMOD Voltage Control (post only if you are a tester!) - Android Apps and Games

This is going to be the thread for everyone to post in when they are testing the app, regardless of device. Please only post in this thread if you are a tester to minimize on clutter.
Ok guys, I have a test version of the app ready and I need some testers! This app was put together by Smurph82 (Ben), me (Derek), and another friend of mine (Will) with Ben doing the majority of the coding. If Smurph82 asks you anything, ANSWER HIM! He is the guy who will get this fixed! Please bear with us as we get the bugs worked out and get this to be the best voltage control app out there!
Some things don't work and I need help figuring out what else isn't working. I'm looking for 2-3 testers for devices I don't officially support right now. (check the list in my sig of officially supported devices and make sure you're applying to beta test for a device not listed there) All testers will get the paid version of the app when done, assuming you provide me with feedback of this app. Here are a few rules...
0.) You must be on a HAVS/SVS kernel (exceptions Nexus S/NS4G with mathkid or Netarchy kernel). If you don't know what this means, please do not send me a request to beta test. You must also be on a ROM that supports init.d (99% of ROMs)
1.) If you are selected to be a tester, you WILL NOT send this app to anyone else and you will use it only on your personal devices.
2.) If you are not selected to be a tester, please don't blow up my PMs or thread complaining about it.
3.) You will provide me with some feedback about the app, what works and what doesn't, what should be implemented and/or taken out. I don't think this is an unreasonable request.
4.) To be an official beta tester, your submissions will BY PM ONLY. This information needs to be sent to me or I will ignore your PM. I don't have time to respond and ask for the information that I need. Please don't post in this thread for wanting to test, this thread is for the testers to post their results and collaborate with one another. Please include this with your beta testing submission:
Device:
ROM:
Kernel:
Please also keep replying with our whole conversation so I can reference it.
5.) I may be going to bed soon so if you get nothing from me tonight, I will hit you up tomorrow.
Thanks guys, I look forward to working with all of my beta testers!!
Known Issues:
[*]Landscape in 2nd tab doesn't scroll
Some voltages presets need to be implemented
Links are too small
[*]Netarchy kernel detection shows UNKNOWN
Shouldn't show init.d button if one doesn't exist
[*]App looks in the wrong place for SVS kernel voltages
Cannot save init.d file

Alright, I've run into one problem right off the bat but I think it will be easy to solve.
It says:
"File at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs was not found
My frequency tables are at:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
I know it will work, I've been using the vipermod terminal script to change my voltages, it just can't find my frequency tables it seems.
EDIT: i messed up the file path for my tables (left out the /cp0) fixed now.

I am also getting the same issue of:
File at /system/etc/init.d/74havsvoltages was not found.
DEVICE: HTC EVO 4G
KERNEL: TIAMAT 3.3.7

Im getting file at /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels)havs was not found
Also I cant adjust voltages up or down as I keep getting a pop up saying "This is not a HAVS kernel"
MIUI 1.8.12 DEXT

DEVICE: NEXUS ONE
KERNEL: IR 2.6.38.8_AVS-CM7_CFS_20110813_1517

Already off to a fantastic start lol
OK, so issues with SVS detection. On the main page, does it detect that you are running an SVS kernel? It should say "This is an SVS kernel" right?
Do you already have an init.d file there from the viperMOD script when you try to read it? If so, can you back it up, delete it, and try to generate a new voltage file from the app?
Thanks guys!

yes it detects that I have an SVS kernel. Tried deleting the 99voltages file in my init.d and still no dice.

ok viperboy, first off thanks! i have several initial observations. the app assumes you have the voltage script installed in order to work. i think this should be the opposite. if not detected on app install the app should install one for the user, otherwise you would still need to use the vipermod te script in order to use the app by saving changes on default settings to create the init.d script. second, at a hi density view of 200, the lettering in your about section is a bit too small and your links are barely viewable. this needs to be adjusted. and finally, if you make a voltage selection too low for your phone to handle and need to do a battery pull because your phone locks up, i LOVE how it automatically resets itself to kernel defaults negating the need for having to flash a reset zip, bravo!! however, it changes your customized cpu settings as well. in my case it changed my cpu levels from 128/499 smartass to 245/998 interactive.

Please explain a little bit further. It sees its an SVS kernel, then what happens? Can't create the voltages?

Well, it shouldn't install one for the user, it should just error. We don't want to set a bad voltage that is too low for your phone or anything!
The links are an easy fix, thanks for the input.
And as far as setting too low of a voltage, that's because it doesn't write the init.d file yet. You could still end up with the same problem as the script if you set a voltage too low and saved it. And it shouldn't have changed anything like that at all. Could you explain how it changed your CPU settings??

Quick update, it reads my init.d 74havsvoltages file that the script made now. But it still won't let me lower or raise anything.
When I hit the "Adjust Voltages" tab it says "A havs or svs file cannot be found. Are you sure your kernel supports this?"
I believe this is because its looking for my files under:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs
and
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_svs
when my voltages are really at:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
Just out of curiosity does this require root privileges maybe? Because I never got a SU request for it.

If the app does not detect the HAVS file correctly it will not allow you to update as it would be have not files.

I know that viperBoy requested your specs for being a beta tester
but please provide me with your phone, ROM, and Kernel in your post so I can
better understand your problem. This was built on an Evo 4g, CM7, Tiamat 4.0.*. Thanks.

can someone please post me one thanks. Sorry the svs had not been implentment due to the fact that I only have one phone.

I'm restoring a backup right now, I'll post mine in just a second.

sure. i set the voltages too low on purpose in order to cause my phone to lock so that i would have to do a battery pull because i was curious to see if my kernel voltage defaults would be restored on reboot....and they were. i think that is great. i then reset them using the app to where i knew my phone would handle them. after doing so i took a look at my custom cpu settings which i have set to retain on reboot. when i did they were completely changed from 128/499 smartass to 245/998 (stock settings) along with the governor being changed to interactive. i just thought that was weird.
also the tapatalk app is not allowing me to reply to this thread. it keeps saying "failed to connect to forum. please check with the forum administrator if this problem persists". i have to reply from my laptop.

Hey Everyone, first of all I DO NOT take any credit for this kernel. I came across it in Myn's Rom thread and since it didn't have it's own thread, I just wanted to start one so people could find it easily. I also noticed it in VirusRom's thread. So whoever ziggy is, thanks a lot! I'm getting great battery life on this kernel and according to the threads, it looks like others are also. Here's the link to ziggy471 website with the download. Thanks again ziggy!

ya man, i ran it the other day and had great battery, but i thought it had affected my 4g connection, so i flashed another kernel. i reflashed ziggy's today because i missed the battery effect and i haven't had any issues all day (4G connects just fine). I not too technical, so i don't know the in's and out's of this kernel, but i do notice my battery life at the end of the day.
you said that you came across it on Myn's ROM. Is that the ROM your currently running? Just want to see how it works on others

23 Oct 2010:
Kernel version 2.6.32.24

1.28GHz, I don’t recommend this setting, it doesn’t appear to work on the newer Desire ports. I recommend 1.113 or 1.15.
BFS 357 CPU Scheduler
BFQ IO Scheduler
Swap enalbed
SLUB (Unqueued Allocator)
All CPU governors, Interactive is the default
CPU Undervolt control via /proc/undervolt – built in, not a module

A few tweaks here and there.
etc…
Also included in the update:
1. For any ROM that has busybox’s run-parts enabled, I added a screen state frequency/governor switching script, located in /system/etc/init.d. This means you do not have to use setcpu to control the frequency or governor anymore. If you prefer not using this script, delete it
The defaults for the script:
AWAKE_GOVERNOR=”interactive”
AWAKE_GOVERNOR_FREQENCY_MAX=”1113600″
AWAKE_GOVERNOR_FREQENCY_MIN=”245000″
SLEEP_GOVERNOR=”powersave”
SLEEP_GOVERNOR_FREQENCY_MAX=”460800″
SLEEP_GOVERNOR_FREQENCY_MIN=”245000″
2. remount script that will be installed to /system/bin.
Valid input format:
remount [ro|rw|status]
ro = read only (default)
rw = read write (to make modifications)
status = current mount mode
3. hosts file that blocks most ads, if you find more, let me know
also new kernel released on the 24th...

Problem with the broken adb shell is that it's causing some users to have problems using Titanium Backup. I love the kernel, but won't use it as a daily driver until Ti works without issue.

[Q] First time Rooter - Question about Android Rev. HD and Kernels!

Second time poster here (not important, silly first post elsewhere..)
Im new to rooting phones and installing ROMs on phones im really careful about all that stuff D: i dont like to tamper with stuff but this phone has so much more potential to it and i think it can be way faster than how it currently is that i decided to experiment with Android Revolution HD.
Now im posting here because i dont have enough posts to post under the thread, so pardon me if im breaking some rules here but posting there was my first choice.
I have some perhaps simple questions...
when it says "Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) - latest official HTC RUU 1.45.401.2
This is improved version of stock ROM - no visual changes!
New kernel: 2.6.35.14 (under-volted & tweaked). Details below:
CPU up to 1.56 GHz (1.51 GHz by default - original speed for MSN8660 chipset) - controlled automatically by built it O/C Daemon..."
does the ROM come with the kernel included or do i have to go pick it up from the custom kernels in the thread, and if so, which one do i even pick? D:
also, i wish to over clock it! does the custom rom already bring the CPU to 1.56GHz without me having to do anything?
I really dont get kernels and i have read the guides about them over and over again

Hi,
ADHD ROM 3.0.4 comes with kernel already installed, running at 1.56 GHZ.
If you want to over clock, then you need 1.72 kernel.
Check my sig...Faux123.
You need 0.1.0 1.72 to over clock...

The CPU runs at 1.51GHz by default on 3.0.4 and you can go up to 1.56GHz, if you want a higher overclocking you should install the 1.78GHz version of the kernel here :

Thanks guys for the replies! i have another issue regarding the ROM and its exactly the last question from the FAQ on the thread
Q 25: How can I enable built it screen-shot feature on Sense 3.0 < based ROMs?.
A: Edit your build.prop file in /sytem and change:
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = false
to
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = true and clear dalvik-cache or install ShootMe from the Android Market.

now... how does one edit the build.prop file? i tried installing astro file manager, opening the ZIP of the ROM in the SD card, but i didnt see no file and im confused about how to do this as im new to rooting and ROMs.
Could anyone elaborately explain this process for me? im great with step by step instructions. Again id post in the thread but im not allowed to :/ and this is the only issue so far with the ROM everything else works great!

You have to go into Efs explorer and mount system r/w to be able to see and edit those files.
Or do it from and teminal session or recovery

1. Start ES File Explorer
2.Press menu button
3.Go Settings

5. Mount File System

You could also download a app called drocap2 and use for screen shot
Screenshot does work by default, it's a bit hit and miss for me though. Works when it feels like it
It is just that mike has disable it in the Android Rev.HD ROM
Because some people had problem that is made screenshots

Awesome! Was able to find the file and all until the very end which didn't allow me to save the text changes from false to true because the file was in a zip.
Any idea around this?
Your in the wrong place.
Look for /system on the top
not on /sdcard
After that boot into recovery and choose
Advanced and wipe dalvik cache and restart

How do I under voltage faux kernel?

Hi there,
I am fairly new to custom ROMs etc and recently installed LeeDroid 4.3.0 successfully. However, I also wanted to try out a custom ROM and installed Faux' kernel too (mainline).
Battery drain became a lot better, but there's an optional feature to under voltage the CPU. According to the guide in the thread, I have to put
Code:
echo "-25000" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/vdd_table/vdd_levels
somewhere. Can someone tell me in where I have to put this in detail? Any other things I should take care of / should be aware of?
If this topic was discussed already (sure it was), please don't hesitate to link me to it, I just couldn't find anything via forums search.
Thanks!
You can run it with a terminal emulator directly on your phone or through adb/shell on your pc.
Either way, it's not going to stick and you should repeat the operation after every reboot if you want to keep the UV.
You can add that line to a script, though, so that it is executed automatically after every boot.
I usually add that line to the init.post_boot.sh script in /system/etc (between the other MSN8660 tweaks). The alternative is adding a file in the init.d folder.

you could just get System Tuner Pro from the market and UV that way
Thanks, got it with Grandelama's method.

[STOPPED] [GT-S7500] Galaxy ACE Plus - Custom Kernel (Stable) + OC Kernel

Disclaimer:
I don't take any responsibility if your phone explodes, your girl/boyfriend breaks up with you or any other stuff.
Do not flash on anything else than an GT-S7500! No L model or W model, else you get a shiny brick.
Don't forget your warranty will get void if you flash this trough odin. (Unless someone figures out a way to reset the custom binary counter)
So flash AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Based on official Samsung Sources. Governors copied from freexperia github. Other changes by me.
Features:
- unsecured
- smartassV2
- SavagedZen (beware: in sleep mode cpu speed is capped at 480Mhz)
- noop sheduler by default
- minimium frequency set at 122Mhz
- enabled 19Mhz and 61Mhz frequencies (use setcpu or similar)
Click to collapse
Tested with S7500XXLC2/S7500OXXLC1/S7500XXLC2. Flash with odin.
OC Build:
- Overclock frequencies seem to have the same performance but OC is indeed working, thanks to mb-14!
(Confirmed after many tests quadrant/setcpu/neocore cpu frequency is the same from minimal overclock to 1200Mhz)
- My phone as crashed 3 since I've overclocked it, so beware!
- Unless there is a better way of ocing, my newer builds will have oc disabled.
OC build v2 (31 May, 22h):
- Removed all overclock frequencies but 1200Mhz.
Bugs affecting all builds (even official ones):
- "Fuel gauge" might be bugged (maybe due to old/bugged samsung sources?) update:might be an rom bug instead.
- 3 pole headphones have noise in one channel and then the noise disappears (jack sensing bug?)
Sources Help & feedback are appreciated.
EDIT:
New kernel posted minimal changes again (samsung config updated from a new version LE1)
If you don't want an yellow triangle at boot flash my custom rom and then flash the kernel using the terminal.
1-Extract the tar.md5 file
2-Copy the boot.img to the sdcard
3-Use the terminal (or adb) as root to cd to the sdcard folder
4-Then type this "dd if=boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8"
If you want to flash a custom recovery it works too, type "dd if=recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12"
Then you can flash whatever rom you want as long you don't use odin to flash an custom kernel or recovery you can keep your warranty intact (if you never flashed any custom kernel/recovery that is).
Keep in mind that this doesn't clear the counter only makes the triangle go away.

Custom recovery based on cm9 (5.5.0.4) posted (appears to work fine but more testing is required). Bootloop fixed. If you get stuck in recovery (unknown boot mode) go to "advanced" and choose "reboot recovery" when it is finished rebooting into cwm again choose "reboot system now".
DEVELOPMENT IS STOPPED. I no longer have the ace plus.
successfully flashed on my S7500DDLD1...only thing i noticed is after the flashing is complete phone doesnt boot normally but stays in download mode so i manually rebooted and i have ur kernel on my phone...take ur time and improvise it (startup scripts ,CM/MIUI support) , ALL THE BEST...
Wot's the benefit to flash custom kernel??.... Anyway gud step move ahead in making custom rom also for ace plus

Odd mine rebooted and worked fine on first attempt. I've only messed with one script so far. I'm still thinking what I should add to the kernel.
I'm trying to build aosp but so far no luck.

So far it's to have new governors and a new sheduler.
BUG :
1 . When on savagedzen gov unlocking the phone from sleep is delayed/laggy also if u r listening to music and the lock the screen then the music starts lagging tried increasing the min freq still the same , may be something like a deep sleep or sod bug..

I'm trying to reproduce the bug, but since my phone is still charging I can't seem to get the music lagging. What music app and music format are you using?

Strange I can't seem to make it lag on savagedzen. The UI feels slower but music isn't lagging. Do you have any sound effect enabled?
Edit: I've got lag when using the EQ and waking the phone.
Edit 2: I've uploaded a hopefully fixed version, let's also hope that the changes that I made won't screw up the battery life.
flashed test kernel 3
the same bug exists wen used with EQ but the intensity of the bug is only 20% compared to the previous one also increasing the min freq to 480 completely nullifies the bug...also with EQ off the bug doesnt exist
will see how the battery life is... btw have u played with the drivers/bus to change the battery life...?
I can't get any lag at all now (after v3). Can you give my all your parameters? EQ settings, mp3 bitrate, where is your music stored and if using an sd card what type of sd card are you using.
I've set the minimum at 19Mhz and on air plane mode and by morning I still had the same battery than yesterday (89%).
The only thing that I changed was the cpu frequency table to include 800 Mhz at the same voltage than 600 Mhz and so far it seems ok, but might not be true to all phones.

I've posted a link to the sources on github. I'm still learning how to use git. But I'm still uploading the sources.
Edit: Uploaded!
Can anybody help me with the cpu frequencies? I've cracked part of it but I don't know what to change since if OC to 1200Mhz I only get 600 Mhz performance
I've attached the table I'm using (xls since ods xda upload gave me the finger lol)

Check my fork of your kernel on my github.I have got OC working.
P.S: Could you update your repo to the latest kernel source from samsung? My net speed is very sucky

I don't see any new kernel versions on the Samsung open source release center.. I'm still going to test oc did you change anything else than the CPU frequency table?
Edit: Overlclock is working! Thanks to mb-14!
Anyway it looks like the cpu when on OC is always working at the same frequency, since by overclocking it to 1017 I get an 150 ms reduction on setcpu native bench. And it remains the same for all the other frequencies.
For what I've understanded of PLL and CPU clocks looks like the cpu is running at 1200 MHz. (In the frequency table you can claim any frequency but it doesn't mean the cpu is running at that speed)
Edit: With OC my phone crashes after a while (ram dump mode)
Edit 2: Neocore doesn't seem to care too about the cpu frequency I set above the stock 1008Mhz. From 1017Mhz to 1200Mhz the score is always the same (85,6Fps)
Hello,
i have flash your kernel and its running very good!
Galaxy S7500
2.3.6 (S7500XXLA3)
Antutu 3596
Quadrant 2458
Neocore 85,4fps (1018mhz-1200mhz)
with OC 1,2GHZ and Performace mode
thanks!
I wait for the next version

So you found no difference between overclocked frequencies too?
Unfortunately, no difference....
im upgrading the kernel...
my wish:
can you try to integrate the BLN mod?
I found a manual but I have to search again...
thanks
Edit: with new test_stable kernel (1008mhz) 84,3fps neocore
before with 1018mhz it was at 85,4fps

sorry for my bad english im german ;-)

OC-K1 Nougat

3.0
given up using peoples dirty code, so downloaded nvidias dirty code instead lol
cleaned the code up best i could, things ive noticed while playing games on the tablet is -
when i play "nitro nation" the first race no longer stutters
when popups appear they dont take a while to appear..
when i play "word mind" it doesnt take ages to load with crackling sound
when using "kernel auditor" if you set the GPU max and min values high (i only did this trying to keep the values standard), when the GPU gets hot, it cant scale down the GPU frequency so it starts trying to kill tasks.
i dont think you need to download/flash blobs as they are for flashing binary stuff, but i cant find a need for it, think its more of a precaution to ensure the kernel boots.. but dont think i have flashed them
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.1 : FINAL,
dunno what changes i made but ive recently upgraded my tablet so figured id upload my latest and last
obveously i have had to start again running 3.10.96 but done alot of work to make it as fast as i can so far, but i deleted all references to my old code and cant find them anymore,
GPU is now at 914 MAX as ive found its the GPU that generates a lot of heat, which causes it to throttle, and found values higher than this just degraded performance.
ive known for a long time that "DT2W" works great while connected to USB, due to the custom USB wakelock, i know the app "wakelock revamp - power manager" would resolve it. but ive found tapping where "notifications" would be wakes the screen (ive found bottom right where the camera would be is a good spot) im trying to figure out how to apply the wake lock better.
scores on PCMARK are above the scale on most values
scores on 3DMARK are around 3250 ~ 3320

if you want to create your own, i created a guide, also the website i used to help me understand
https://************/how-to-build-android-kernel-on-windows-10/ appuals . com

Thanks to :
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"hazel nut" for his support, as if he never said "cant wait for it to come out" i dont think it would of pushed me so much
----------------------------------------------------------------
"BitOBSessiOn" for his source code
https://github.com/BitOBsessiOn/android_kernel_nvidia_shieldtablet
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"laufersteppenwolf" for his source code and commits to overclocking and DT2W/STW

-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Christopher83" for his cross compiler
https://github.com/Christopher83/arm-cortex_a15-linux-gnueabihf-linaro_4.9
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft, if i didnt hate windows 10 so much, and didnt get a message regarding dropping support for windows 7,
i would still be using a virtual machine which due to it being so slow, i would of probably given up a long time ago
----------------------------------------------------------------
thanks to everyone that has said thank you
Nice to see that you open a thread.
Appreciate a bit companionship here.
In your guide didn't you specify how you create thr zip file.
I used the nethunter installer, which is based on lazy flashed in regard of the external modules, this come in handy, but I found relatively little among the Shield kernel support.
I noticed that you set the make command with the addition of the specifications of the number of CPUs, which are to be used, before every command.
Is this a typo, or is this the correct procedure when you compile with Windows?
Did you mean with
"bin-bash-command"

That's just how I make the command, as if you tap the up key, you can scroll through previous inputs, if it makes it faster- that's a bonus.. but you're right about being very little support.
With regards to the zip file - you could use mine or any other zip that is a kernel flash - as long as you drop it into the kernel folder.. I believe there is an "anykernel.zip" somewhere if you prefer to use that.. also if you wish to add your own personal touch, you can modify the script file in the metadata folder
Response
I also chose different colours in the guide and placed it in a separate line so people could understand the exact typing.. or they could copy and paste..
But with regards to support it is one of the reasons I made the guide, in hopes the Nvidia community could follow it, understand how to achieve their own kernel, and improve the tablet. As there seems to be a serious lack of support..
I had to learn on my own, through Google and YouTube, but hopefully this will speed up what took me a month of trial and error..
Is it compatible with stock based fw (5.4)? Just need to flash blobs, then kernel and reboot?
Respond
Yeah, extract the blobs before flashing.. only available for stock/stock+ rom

Oh, by the way, you can’t compile with windows unless you’re using a virtual machine.. has to be Linux/terminal

Thank you, I will try out as soon as I can get to my computer. I have downloaded the wakelock v3 app and kernel adiutor an I can't enable wakelock in kernel adiutor (I can't see any option for it). Only this new kernel will support this option, am I right?

You must of done something wrong as “wake” is below “gpu”
You extract> then flash the blob at the fastboot menu via typing - fastboot flash staging <blobfilename>
Then via TWRP recovery you install the “OC K1” kernel without extracting.. I have 3 tablets and it’s worked on them all.. hope this helps,

Thanks for letting me know, originally you wouldn’t of needed the “wake v3” app, but I started fresh, which gained performance, and I decided to look for an easier way to stop the tablet “deep sleeping” on me.. less of a headache this way
