[Q] I need confirmation from stock ROM users please - HTC Sensation

Ok I got 2 Tmobile sensations 1 for me & for my girl & fisrt thing I did on mine was charge & flash never liked stock ROMs. On the stock sensations lights dont turn on when navigating on the phone looking at apps and so on.. So are the lights off on the bottom buttons by defaulf or its a bad phone? (buttons work everything works they just dont turn on)

I just grabbed the stock one here at work and the lights do NOT light up when navigating through the phone. Very odd haha never knew that.

Lights are tied to the light sensor
The button backlights are tied to the ambient light sensor and will only come on if the sensor thinks it's dark enough to need them.

see if the lights turn on when your in the room even if its not very dark. If it doesn't, then you may have a defective unit.

[Q] Proximity sensor/backlight bug?

I hate to create a new thread for this, but creating as it didn't get the right attention in the bugs thread.
My Infuse backlight doesn't respond(on or off) to the proximity sensor when I am on a call. The backlight goes off after the preset time of 30 secs in the settings. But the light doesn't come on when I move my ear away from the phone. I have to press the power button to turn the backlight on to end the call. Proximity sensor it self works fine. Tested by covering the sensor with my finger, all the buttons are disabled even when the light is on.
Is there a way to fix this? I never had this issue with any of my Andriod phones before including the latest Inspire & Atrix.
Is this a bug with this firmware or just my Infuse issue?
Can someone please check this?

My backlight responds immediately after I pull the phone away from my face. The light turns on about the same time that I pull the phone back infront of me. The problem may be uncommon, or unique to your phone.

+1. I, thankfully, haven't had any problems with the proximity sensor on my Infuse either.

If you answer an incoming call from a previously screen locked state the backlight does not come back on. It goes back into a screen off locked state.
If you initiate the call from an unlocked screen state, when the call ends the backlight fires up.
Thanks everyone for your response. My phone was defective, got it exchanged at the at&t store this morning & the new one is working fine!
Thank god for the carrier support!
I think I may have this same issue.
As a side note, if my phone is on speaker, and I am talking, then the other person ends the call, shouldn't my phone give some indication? Either a vibrate, a light or something?

Yes, the backlight should come on. You might want to exchange it.

[Q] Backlit buttons not working correctly

Ok,
So my home row buttons (Menu, Home, Back, Search) do not light up as they should! if the room is dark they will not work at all! and ive never seen them work in a dark room! However every day in the late afternoon when im in my living room and the phone is charging they will just light up! (at first i though it was a refection or just ambient light in the room so i grabbed the phone and ran into my closet and WOW they light up!) so i figured it was something with my settings so i reset my phone to new and still same problem, then said WTH and rooted and updated to 2.3.4 (best thing ive done with it so far!) and have the exact same problem... So then i decided to try another charge (brand new out of the box 1 day old!) and the lights will do the same and light up when its moderately light in the room but then they wont turn off...
So a chat with samsung and they tell me that these phones dont have that feature! so off to verizon and lets test a few more devices!!! and what? at some point they lit up also in inappropriate lighting conditions, so after puzzled VZW people i consult samsung again and they tell me yet again that the featured isnt offered on this phone, so my guess is that its a software flaw?
any ideas?
anyone having lighting issues?
thanks
Wow, that's a lot of exclamation points. I don't know what you're talking about, mine work fine

Odd, works fine for me. Is it possible that you have a screen protector covering your light sensor? In the day time the back lights are off, then if I cover the light sensor they come right on.

The light sensors (which controls auto brightness and the backlights on the hardkey) is broken in the kernel for Gingerbread..
If this is a huge issue for you you might want to consider going back to Froyo

But he said it happened with the new phone and the verizon display one...?
Sent from my Droid Charge running Humble 1.42
It might even be broken on the stock Froyo. All the people who said it's working fine for them right now are running custom ROMs, kernels, firmwares and all that jazz. Maybe it was fixed through one of these custom updates. I dunno.
I just got a brand new Charge (thanks to the Fascinate swap program).
The bottom buttons do not light up. This is fresh out of the box.
I also do not see any way in which they would light up - the icons appear to be painted on to the physical buttons. No underlay for LED backlight.. but I suppose there is one if custom ROMs allow for it.
Which I will know shortly

there is no screen protector or case on either of the phones, and both phones were cleaned well to make sure nothing was hindering the sensors.

The problem is not only to the one that is rooted and flashed but also happens to the 2 at verizon that i inspected (brand new out of the box) and the 2nd one that i have that is also brand new with no mods

I think that the kernel for this phone was just snatched and quickly edited (by samsung) from another product and this is one thing that they havent been able to fix and figure out, because the woman at samsung told me
(Ruby: As your phone has physical keypads, there is no light feature available for keys.
Visitor: the small row of buttons (4 to be exact) at the bottom of the phone should be back lit in low light situations, however they occasionally light up but only in moderately to brightly light rooms
Ruby: I am sorry, there is no feature available on your phone.
Visitor: im sorry but i can prove that this phone does have back lit keys
Ruby: I am sorry, your phone home key rows do not have light option)
but we all know that the button do actually have a lighting option and samsung is just trying to delete the function but isnt 100% successful..
I don't know what to say, they work properly for me. This includes when I was fully stock EE4, as well as now (deodexed, rooted ROM, PBJ kernel, voodoo enabled).
droid charge doesnt have backilights in the keys.. wth are you all talking about... no wait there they are! barely. what th! where did they go again?
Stock froyo from the factory... Daylight = button lights off; sensor covered (night) = button lights on.

Hmm.. Were there any recent software changes to the device?
Get Z-device test on your phone and test the light sensor on the phone by holding it near a bright lamp or sunlight and then covering it with your finger.
The light sensor is located at behind the black strip towards the top of the screen to the left of the HTC logo.

Im having the same problem. Since i rooted the device the backlights do not work but the soft keys themselves do. The light sensor appears to be working. It was at 100% under a strong light and when i covered it with my finger it dropped to 2%
Had the same problem, go to brightness settings change it to automatic, the lights go on, then back to manual and leave a bit below the maximum, the lights stay on and now works.
I found a software solution for this problem
Hello. My soft keys (T-mob Sensation 4G, stock ROM, ICS) would not light under *any* circumstances and I have tried everything suggested here and elsewhere after scouring the Internet and finally happened upon a thread that mentioned this guy's utility.
Now happily soft-keying in the dark and the app has endured several battery-pulls and restarts without a hitch.
HTH someone else. Cheers.

Red Light near Proximity sensor Always On

First of all I am not talking about Notification light.
A Red light in proximity sensor next to sony logo is always on when device is connected to wifi, or when connected to mobile data only whrn the arrow indicators appears.
This red light is on even if i disable adaptive brightness.
I am shocked why no one raised this quesrion.
Hence here I am.
I hope this is not intentional by Sony.
Coz ffs i cant get one thing to my mind that how it is helpful. It is rather annoying.
Anyone with a clue pls share.

It's on on my phone as well. It was also like that on my Xperia X
I call it the "I'm watching you." light. I think its the proximity sensor's lazer. I dont think it should be on 24/7, but then there is this "Led light's lifetime depends on how many times they are turned on/off" thing. May be it is some kind of an optimisation?

It definitely has to do with data recieving signals.
But whatever it is for I am concerned about battery life
It is just plain stupid of sony to not recognize this.
Coming from z5 I thought speakers were average on z5, but I doubt XZ even have any speakers at all.
Sound is that bad on XZ. I can barely listen to ringtone and I was sitting right next to the phone. What if we are in the other room or @ some distance? We' ll definitely miss the call.
Disable adaptive brightness and the flickery red dot will go off. I can only see it in a darkened room so it doesn't bother me. I'm looking at the screen lol!

Why can't we seen to find the real use of that light?

Well now I get it, atleast I think so.
Red light stays on if we turn on adaptive brightness.
It also turns on when data packets are being sent to our device (via wifi or mobile data)
But why? That is the main question here.
Previous devices never had this feature, and what diff does this make?
Looks like my adaptive brightness works fine.
Do you mean the light in the attachment?
It should be the infra-red light used by the proximity sensor anmd it is not meant to be seen by human. I can only take this from the camera of another device but I cannot actually see it.
Trust me, if you tries to use the camera of another device to view it, you will see it blinks a lot when the screen is on.

There may be some variation of the wavelength produced by that LED from device to device, while I cannot see it in my XZ, I can saw it in my last LG device. It won't cause any battery draining problem because either you see it or not, it is still blinking.
My God
This is not a problem
By using this proximity sensor our phone controls the automatic brightness setting.

Xperia X and XZs does this and its annoying, Sony obviously did a bad job in defining what's visible to humans.

Just got my S8+ Couple of questions, Basic LED Function & Capacitive HOME Button

Was hanging on for the Pixel 2 but my Mate 9 broke so got this, Love the phone other than a couple of niggling issues,
1. Why the hell is the led charging light staying RED even when it's fully charged? This is the basic of functions of a flagship phone, my mate 9 changed shades of colour until a strong green when you knew it was fully charged this thing just carry's on solid red, I've used light manager and lightflow before and don't want to use them again, way too many config options for a simple led task, have all samsungs been like this? this is my first.
2. That stupid capacitive HOME button at the bottom of the panel that can't be turned OFF! is a pain in the ass, everytime I lift my phone out of my pocket or take it out of it's pouch keeps touching that stupid home button behind the screen and waking the phone up, I've contacted Samsung and they said it's an integral function and can't be turned off, I've lowered the sensitivity to it's lowest and still it wakes the phone everytime I brush my hand across the bottom of the screen, it is really annoying that with all the software configurations on this phone that it can't be turned off.

1) No it is not staying red, it is green
2) there is NO capacitive home button, S8+ has no front buttons
1st - havent charged it to 100 yet.
2nd- that icon is fine with me. Don't have any problems with taking the phone out of the pouch.
So far, knock on wood - im enjoying this phone more than my N7. There is nothing yet that bothers me about it.

The whole screen is capacitive, call it what you want but the screen is capacitive like the nav bar buttons are capacitive. It is a capacitive button.
Have you tried turning down the sensitivity of the home button and possibly turning on "Keep screen turned off"?

Np.
So far I've tried remaping bunch of dif way and the ones that have worked sucked. I guess I'll have to try the on from n7alliance. Pain in the butt but I have no other choice.
The home button squeeze thing sometimes stops working on me when I reboot my phone. It might have to do with certain apps, because it won't come back until I clear memory sometimes. So it can definitely be disabled without issues. I personally use it all the time.
