EDIT: uploaded the patch. Works for me. I've been testing all day with no problems. But, this needs further testing, and I need to double check my work with Necroscan whenever I get a chance to chat with him on irc.
Here is the hack for Stock EH06 ODEX. You need busybox to be installed in order for my install script to properly work.
1. Backup first.
2. Do Step 1 if you skipped it.
3. Seriously, backup. I am new at this and still trying to figure out if I did it all correctly.
4. Flash in CWM.
I used crawrj's "[Odin]Stock EH06 Odexed with CWM 3.1.0.1/Root/Busybox 1.19" as the source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221253
Entirely based on Necrosan's original patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172576
NOTE: I did not modify Settings.apk, only framework.odex and services.odex. This means it will still say "Sprint Hotspot". This is just my preference to touch as little as possible.
Wowzers, awesome addition to our mod library.

Awesome, if this works, I will stay with the odexed ROM.

It's best not to modify the Settings.apk if you don't have to... However, I fully recommend swapping out the Hotspot icon for something less "Sprint-y!"
Here's one I use.
Not to rush you, but any luck with this yet?
Wow, I am excited about this. I have decided to go with ODEX rom as there seem to be fewer issues but was afraid I would miss out on things like this. I can't wait to try this!

Nice to hear that it is working chip, thanks for the effort. I see that the title only says 3G/4G Wireless Hotspot here. Does this also include the Native USB tether support that Necroman's thread has?
how exactly are you editing the odex files without deodexing them?

hadn't tried that yet, but I just enabled USB tethering, and jumped back on, and it appears to be working as well.
I just flashed this and its working
the computer didnt pick up the network when i tried to just usb tether, but once i ran usb tether and the hotspot together, the computer connected via usb ^_^
great job
ok last post was user error
it DOES work by just ticking usb tether
i was over here cooking my phone running sprint hotspot and usb tether and i didnt have to. what a relief though good job sir
This would be awesome for ec05 odex.

Wow~happy birthday !
Basically I did a backup, wipped, then tried port_openeclair... that didn't boot it was like in some kind of error cycle according to adb logcat, so then I tried the ACR_fender file that basically seemed to be a stock image 1.6.
So now I'm trying OpenEclair without wiping.
My Log so far with OpenEclair, still not past the first boot screen.
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/185252/
Openeclair I didn't test maybe that one don't work and acr is stock just removed stuff
No luck with OpenEclair, but port_KiNgKlick-ECLAIR has made it to the second boot screen but the wizzard keeps crashing when I try to sign in.
Edit: Got signed in, note to others, give it a moment before trying.
I went with Stokes, it seemed faster in general, turned off animations and what not. Only difference I notice is for some reason I can't sync the secondary email like I could on King, and it kept asking to add an account during setup so I just hit home.
I'm reinstalling apps now and the best part is, I got the protected market apps back.
PS: Great job, will probably use this until something 'confirmed' stable comes out.
Its a nice birthday gift
so do these roms recognize the touchscreen?
Awesome job! Are you able to share the drivers with other devs so we can get some other customer ROMs cooking? I would love to have OpenEclair fully working!

FYI, Wired Tether for Root users that came with The Stokes Eclair rom won't work "Unsupported" Kernel it says.
No worry though, I use Azilink + OpenVPN on the computer for tethering which doesn't require root access either.
So far the Stokes one been promising.

I usually do a nandroid backup, then wipe, then flash.
this is the UCKI3 leak deodexed and packaged with entropy's daily driver kernel.
it is CWM flashable for all to try but it is my first deodex and this is a test build from samsung so expect issues.
the kernel from the odin package gives me unreliable cell connections. i will post it later for those that want hdmi and i hope others experience with it is different.
there will be more to come on this, i need to come up with a good rom name then the debloating and stock app modding can begin. i plan to atleast remove the battery full notification, theme the launcher (because atleast in froyo the launcher needed to suport hdmi so im not sure i can just use gtg's great launcher) theme the notification bar and who knows what else.
when att releases it officially i will certainly move on to that as a base.
the link is below
flash me if you are brave
edit:
the known issues are that
-entropy's kernel and hellraiser dont seem to like my dock or car dock , no audio over usb (this is not unique to this rom on my phone)
-crazy rainbows if you use the stock kernel (not packaged with the rom for the reason that the incomplatible bootloaders bork recovery, if you are used to using odin you probably dont need this rom as it is still basically stock)
edit:
hdmi supported kernel is now attached. warning! this has no recovery! let the media scanner run before opening the camera or previews will be rainbows.
edit:
-the cell connection with the att kernel can be unreliable but it "seems" to be better if you shut down the phone in flight mode and restart.
-the email app is broke. im not working on a fix yet.
-wifi doesnt work with a rogers based kernel
this whole thing is a learning experience for me. i'm certainly not a gtg or linuxbozo. far from it infact.

You can always pull the modem.bin from the ZIP, and push it to your phone manually, although I don't remember where it goes, someone else will probably say it.
That's what I'll do when I get home, back to my Infuse (took my Inspire to school today so that my friend can play with it, lol).

First of all I would like to say thanks to the Cyanogenmod Dev Team for developing CM7 & CM9, thanks to the Epic CM7/CM9 Dev team for porting CM7 & CM9 to the epic, thanks to JerryScript for helping me find the necessary framework.jar changes, thanks to the Moto Triumph CM9 team for creating the needed file change, and thanks to Shinydude100 for writing the guide on how to port the Epic to Virgin Mobile.
This fix is for the Epic CM9 port, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473012
Here is the thread describing porting the Epic to Virgin Mobile:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404270
Attached to the bottom of this page is an CWM updater.zip for CM9, flash this after every CM9 update you install. If you do a wipe and restore your data flash this fix AFTER you restore your data as the fix deletes the telephony.db file from the data partition, which stores the APN values. This causes your phone to read the apns-conf.xml and write the correct Virgin Mobile values to the telephony.db on the next boot up.
Please report if you have any issues related to MMS or Virgin Mobile stuff. However if they are bugs related to the roms please post in the rom specific thread.
Epic CM9 MMS fix mirror:

Epic CM7 7.2.0 RC2 MMS Fix (Will only work with 7.2.0 RC2:
http://www.mediafire.com/?avak7ybblao2344
If this fix helps you please drop me a thanks and if you can spare a few bucks please donate to the Epic CM9 developer fund: http://epiccm.blogspot.com/p/about-epic-cm.html
Also people please stop messaging asking will I fix this rom or that rom for you. No I will not! I only use CM9 and dont care about other roms. If you want MMS working on those roms figure out how to fix it yourself. You might learn something in the process.

No problem. Glad its working for all you guys. Tomorrow I plan on putting together a flashable zip that should work with all the nightlies.
One question, did you solve the Dialer Code (ie. ##DATA#) issue that was found on the original Epic 4G CM ROMS?...to my knowledge this was still a no-go...
I wouldn't consider that a bug. More like just a missing feature. Plus one can still dial *#*#data#*#* to view data settings, just can't edit them. But just install clean gb, edit your settings, and flash to a cm rom. Problem solved.
Anyways I made no changers to either of these roms other than edit a couple Java and XML files.

Just used this to do CM7 for the Evo 4g thanks homie. Been dreaming of this day for a long time!!!
OP, you may want to post a flashable mod, rather than a full ROM, to better keep up with changes upstream. The wholesale kang (beneath your changes) seems a bit unorthodox to me.

I agree. I plan on doing that for future updates. Also it would seem that for most updates there wont be any changes to the framework.jar and build.prop. And the apns-conf.xml will never change. Thought for the initial release would have a whole rom for people just to make things easy. Also I need to figure out how to make flashable zips
Also not trying to take credit for these roms. Hopefully people realize that in the OP.

There's really nothing to flashable zips - just need updater-binary and updater-script. For the script, study other examples.

Sorry can't help you, dont know anything about MetroPCS. My best advice would be to loot at a MetroPCS rom that has data working for another device and compare the files. Also make sure you programmed the epic with all of the correct settings.

I use to have my epic on a metro PCS rom. That was my company before i switched to Virgin Mobile.
The speeds aren't 3g, capped at 1x. And the battery drain for its outdated methods aren't worth having on your epic.
The "data" web/mms was with the use of scripts, and ip tables. It's a dead end, and there's a thread on flashing to alternative carriers for the epic, it has all the info i've known about MetroPCS on the Epic, as well as what another user knew. It's a BIG hassle to get it going on a stock rom, imagine trying to get it working on CM9?
You may be able to get it working, but if you do (whatever year that may be) it won't be worth it in the end because it'll cap at 1x speed, and it won't be worth all your effort in the end.
Thanks, but got it to working on cm9 alpha 3. Apparently the alternative carrier didn't work on cm9 alpha 0. I have internet working on stock rom and I know what you mean about the data speeds but only 3 carriers work where I live, at&t, verizon, and metro pcs. I would switch to virgin but I don't get service where I live. Thanks I appreciate the look out.
Now just gotta find out how to get mms working lol.

Fix for CM9 alpha 4 is up. If you download please post how it works for you and hit the thanks button.
Also I think I am not going to support CM7, because as CM9 gets better and better less people will use CM7. However if you guys want I can post one last CM7 build for Virgin with the current nightly. Let me know.
What is your latest nighlty for CM7? I would use CM9 but Groove IP doesn't seem to work with ICS.
Besides the modem stuff thanks to racing19969 here, it doesn't look like anything is really around for this - though given all the other fun options I'm not surprised Regardless, I figured I should actually do something for the Blaze as it's been a while so here I am!
I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS (GOOD OR BAD) AS A RESULT OF FLASHING OR ATTEMPTING TO FLASH WHAT IS POSTED HERE!
I am normally a bit verbose on things, but I really didn't do much here. The below files were all pulled from either dumps from the phone or pulled from the UVMB1 tar I got from sammobile.com.
The odexed version I did NOTHING to (except fashion it into something CWM flashable), which means it is unrooted and it includes the stock kernel. The deodexed/zipaligned version includes SuperSU v1.34 (found here) as well as busybox (v1.20.2 thanks to imnuts). I also went through and removed 3 apks, 1 lib, and some smali bits in Settings.apk and framework.jar that were related to carrier iq. It's actually rendered dormant by T-Mobile, but better safe than sorry. Also - this one does not include a kernel as I don't want to force it on folks (even though it's likely a good idea!).
I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS (GOOD OR BAD) AS A RESULT OF FLASHING OR ATTEMPTING TO FLASH WHAT IS POSTED HERE!
Usual rules apply - you should be cautious whenever you flash. Make sure to wipe data/factory reset to avoid issues. Flash in recovery.
As the Blaze is now privy to a number of AOSP-flavored ROMs, remember that you will need to flash the stock UVMB1 kernel if you aren't already using it. Others might work but I haven't tested, so YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Installation instructions:
- Backup your current setup/data
- Download file and place on sdcard
- Boot into CWM/TWRP recovery
- Recommended to wipe data/factory reset in CWM/TWRP recovery
- Select and install the .zip you put on your sdcard
And without further ado - here are the downloads:
---UVMB1 STOCK FILES---
BLOATED UVMB1 DEODEXED ROOTED BUSYBOX-ED
md5: 8B2E2C2E8C79890683745A3F8EE83450
BLOATED UVMB1 ODEXED UNROOTED w/ KERNEL
md5: 56AF8F5118550B6DDF430AE167C43343
STOCK UVMB1 KERNEL
md5: 8187DD61083FDF7DDBDD0B1A9357B5FD
Enjoy!
Also - I did not get a chance to try this out on my wife's phone yet. I am fairly confident everything will work just fine, and recent reports seem to support such a confidence, but even so I feel I should put an "I haven't tested this" disclaimer in here

You would think such things would be reported if that were the case, but you never know. It is an option (and functional) on other roms, yes? Sometimes the Settings options are dependent on certain conditions being met - so if it tried to poll the nfc adapter for example and got no response maybe it wouldn't show... I really dunno though, I haven't looked very thoroughly to be honest.

Keep in mind even if I run stock I make my own... adjustments... I will start over from the beginning and if I find out where I went wrong I will report so others will know.
I'm using the BLOATED UVMB1 DEODEXED ROOTED BUSYBOX-ED with the stock kernel linked below it and still no NFC option in settings>more. I have downloaded the files again and checked md5's and still nothing. Like I said, it's nothing major as I don't use it.

kick @SS S3 M.O.A.R better!
I got cM-10.2 built and booted on my T217. Main issues so far are the touchscreen touches and the tablet layout. I think I need to port more T217 code to the CM kernel sources. That's all to report for now.

There's no need to call cdma.mk it's empty now

I guess "no news" is "good news". Hope all is well.

I'm about to get a sprint galaxy tab 3 7 inch, and since there has been much development on this device, I thought maybe i'd pitch in. Except I don't know how. Anyone know of some good literature on what goes into compiling a rom for a device? I'd be very interested in contributing what I can. Thanks! Also, if anyone can think of a reason for me not to get the Sprint tab 3, speak now or forever fuel my regret.

I would say get it. It is easier to work on than the non lte versions. Faster too.

Uploaded a CM-10.2 build for the sm-t217 for something to play around with.
Fixed screen touches via build.prop value
Charges via usb.
Built kernel and wlan module from Cyanogen kernel msm8930-common as a base.
-still needs charging, usb drivers, sound, camera ported over from the sprint source.
Bugs: Not working so far: wifi, no network, no sound, no camera, no bootanimation, no usb mounting
Download: http://goo.im/devs/thekraven/LT02LTE-SPR/build4-cm-10.2-20131209-UNOFFICIAL-lt02ltespr.zip
mirror1: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760974519
No gapps yet as wifi and network are not working yet.
Install: Factory reset in cwm recovery and wipe system. Install the zip file.
THanks to TeamRegular, Unjustified Dev, gr8nole

what DOES work? Seriously though, I'm glad someone is working on it. It's a start
Before, the touchscreen was all over the place. This is just a very alpha build to show progress. It still needs kernel work and more ramdisk work.
CM10.1 would have been a better place to start to fix bugs.

I wouldn't even care if you never get lte working. A stable WiFi only cm would make my day.
