[Q] HDMI output -- Media Hub problem - Verizon Droid Charge

I downloaded movies from Media Hub on my Droid Charge but I can't watch it on my TV through HDMI due to copyright problems. Has anyone heard of or know of a hack to override this problem Thanks in advance.

I'm running Gingerbread EP1F stock. I noticed the same issue. However, if I start the movie playing and then plug in HDMI, everything works.

Tried that with Humble 1.51 Froyo and didn't work.
I don't understand their logic of forcing you to only watch a low quality movie that you payed for (at full DVD retail price) on a tiny screen.

Google Video does not play via HDMI

Please forgive me if this has been answered before, but this sites search function blows.
Wife and I just rented a movie tonight from the market. Hooked up HDMI during the preview, worked great. But when the acual movie started, the screen goes blank and only sound comes out. I unplug the hdmi from the TF and it starts showing the video on the TF. WTF?!
Restarted, nothing. I tried the screen flip, dumb trick thingy, nothing. I am clueless why android would let something so easy and convenient go unnoticed in 3.2? Anyone have ideas? Is this something Google hasn't even fixed yet or something? Thanks for the help,

Anyone having this problem?!

I had this problem also - I am assuming it is blocked for viewing via HDMI.
That was my first thought but why on earth cant you watch an android paid movie via hdmi?! It makes no sense. I paid for it, why cant I watch it however I want? If this is true in my mind its a huge black eye for android.

Your not rooted right? I'm assuming it plays on your device normally.
That is a pisser. Movies and HDMI should be one of their primary goals of their movie service.

I can confim this issue. I just tried to watch a movie I had rented as well. It's quite annoying. It should be a key piece of functionality.
HDCP problem no doubt. Anyone go through settings in the video app or general settings to make sure there was no option to enable video out over HDMI? Do youtube or onboard videos play on the TV?

I dont know what HDCP is but I have used hdmi out from other apps, tv shows, and it works fine. The TF will show everything with hdmi in but go to play an android movie and it goes blank.
Hopefully this is an easy fix? And no I am not rooted.

HDCP is digital copyright protection.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
So that means you need a HDCP compatible TV? Or just no go at all?
I always knew hdcp was a bad idea. Absolutely no good.

If this was a HDCP issue, then it's a case of poor programming. I have the same problem, and my HDTV is fully HDCP compliant, as my Blu-ray player and game consoles work fine over HDMI. There should be no reason why the videos won't play if the TV itself supports HDCP.
I think this is a Asus TF issue. I think this is a current firmware bug. HDMI output works fine on my Xoom but not on my TF...
I also have this issue and just received a firmware update a couple of days ago. Still isn't working...
I have a stock un-rooted Transformer with the same problem. HDMI out normally works great, but no Google Videos. Bummer especially that I just bought several from their $.99 special for the weekend.
Any fix or patch?
I just got my TF last week, rented a movie over the weekend and same issue. I have searched in a few places, and similar issues come up based on the TV brand, but from looking here, it seems even with compliant ones, it's an issue. I first thought it was a bug in my tablet, but apparently not. I have a 6 year old Panasonic plasma, if it matters. But again, everything else outputs fine, just not Market movies.

Are we sure it's an Asus thing? We need to see if other HC tablets do this, or do we know that already? I know someone with a Xoom, but no idea if he's tried this. Anyone else?

From what others have said (in others and this thread included), Yes I believe this is just an Asus issue. I've heard the Xoom displays fine.
No. This is NOT an Asus issue. This is a Movie industry issue. They just don't want you seeing the movie in a bigger screen for fear you will show it to a much larger audience. The movie Industry is greedy and F* UP and the paid normal users are suffering for their greed and paranoia....

Can you please provide the link where you saw that? I don't see it in this thread and didn't find it elsewhere when I searched. Definitely could have missed it, though.

Atrix 2 and HDMI Mirroring

I purchased the Atrix 2, and tested out playing tv shows using various video players through HDMI mirroring and each video file on every video player resulted in jerky video playback. Plays fine on phone, even plays fine on original atrix using hdmi and video playback mode.
Anyone else who has an atrix 2 have this problem?

Guess the Atrix 2 just isnt as good as the first one. Unless your tv just cant handle that substantial upgrade you made, and now you are forced to upgrade your TV.
On a serious note now, try restarting your phone.. Install take killer and see how much ram you have to play with. Or you just might have to wait for a update from Moto. Could be some codec hardware/software issues. Good luck!

Task killer is nothing but a battery drainer, dont install it please!
I demuxed the video files and the video plays 100% smooth with NO audio. I am converting the audio to mp3 to see if the video will play fine with that codec.
File with mp3 audio didnt even play but I converted the aac audio from 48hz to 44hz and that made a difference. File with 48hz noticeably had alot of frame jumps while file with 44hz still had frame jumps but it didnt have that many. Both files look fine on phone. Problem is while mirroring.

Don't install a Task Killer just use the one the phone comes with that is built in.
Ok so I just tried HDMI Mirroring and it works flawlessly granted you really need to reformat the videos to an acceptable format considering I tried to watch a non formated .mkv video and because of the compression of that video type it did stutter a bit. .avi has a slight issue with Not actually playing at least the one I attempted anyway. .mp4 played perfectly with no issues at all. Will let you know if I figure out any tricks for optimizing videos.
Edit: Yea ok so after playing with Multiple Videos it seems that it depends on the compression of the video as far as I can tell, considering I just got a bunch of Other .avi's to function with no issues at all. So yea seems video related.

All the files I tested were video files I already converted to work with my Atrix, which works on my atrix perfectly fine using the Entertainment Center feature of the original Atrix. The files also work perfectly fine on the SGS 2 mirroring. The files play perfectly fine on the Atrix 2 with the exception of mirroring, the frames jerk randomly. I removed the audio from the video file and it worked perfectly. I tried playing a low res divx and it still did the frame jumps.

I had already tried rock player and just tried dice player and the frames still jump. The files play perfectly fine on the phone itself with stock player and any other player. The problem is when you try playing it while in HDMI mirror mode.
how does the games look with HDMI mirror? ie: angy birds, need for speed? any frame drops?

Angry birds played fine Ill download need for speed now
I just tried mirroring FPSE and it lagged real bad. I mirror it just fine on SGS2 and original atrix using photon rom.
Wack.
Also here is a video showing the Samsung Galaxy s2 mirroring FPSE just fine, however Atrix 2 cant seem to handle it.
FPSE runs smoother in Atrix Webtop mode then it does in Atrix 2 mirror mode
I cant install NFS Shift, when trying to download it just says NaN 0mb
Good news is I posted this over at motorola forums and Mark, the forum moderator said that motorola will look into this problem.

My experience is that Mark will pass the issue on. He has no control over what happens after that, but he will bring it to the attention of someone higher up.

Hey Shanghei,
How does the atrix 2's screen look? Is it nicer than the Atrix 1? Is it Pentile technology?

[Q] 3.5 mm TV out cable

Obviously I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. I'm running a custom rom, the valhalla final. I recently purchased a tv out cable from samsung. It doesn't work on any tv I have. Is it because the tv's I own are older? Or does it have something to do with my rom? If this is the case can anyone suggest a rom whrere tv out works? Please help me!!
Did you go to display settings and turn on the TV out option? If so and it still doesn't work, it may be a TV issue. I've been able to use it on all the TV's I've tried.

You need to switch the yellow (video) input with the red (audio) input when connecting to TV.

I've actually found that only applies to certain TV's for some reason. It's weird. But good point, I forgot about that.

Typically this would be reversed, meaning it would depend on the cable used. The phone sends the video signal on the same output.
I tried any color combination possible. NOthing work. My guess so far is the tv that stoned yoda was talking about. And yes, to answer your question, I chcked tv out. I get a bad picture with static and stuff. By the way, after thinking about it, the switching the cables wont work. That only applies if you don't buy the samsung cable, which I did. The samsung cable has a converter in it. Samsung switched the terminals to give you the illusion you had to buy from them. So I guess Im gonna find a newer tv and try it.....stoned yoda do you run a custom rom?

Netflix App issues over MHL cable

Im using Sky ICS 4e-1 (UCLE2) rom and having a problem on Netflix app:
- I see the subtitles on the phone screen but I dont see the subtitles on TV screen.
- Im using the MHL cable, and never had this problem before get ICS roms.
I notice this problem does not happen on 2.3 roms, only at 4.0.
Can someone help me please???
Just turn up the volume. Then you wont need subtitles.
I have used Netflix with my other phones which had HDMI out. . Never tried with subtitles on mind you
