I tried searching this section of the forum for even Vimicro and couldn't find anything. Been a user of this forum for a long time but went on hiatus for quite a while since I decided to specialize in the iPhone and lost all my previous ability to upgrade or customize any other type of phones and OS.
Any help towards the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I'm the DIYer type so I don't mind getting my hands dirty.
Is it really not possible? 40+ people read this thread and no one knows?
I saw that the ROM that's loaded on it now is clearly for a phone, but maybe they all are?
Strange, I used to remember this forum being a lot more helpful when I was on it before...
Don't know how it was before...
I've got this device to. Great device. Not to large and fast enough. At this moment the firmware itself is good, but the device can handle more i think.
I also would be pleased if somebody can make an new Rom for this tablet., perhaps 3.0?
grtz

Hi,
you may know that there is an emerging community for Haipad M8. See the following link. It could be an opportunity to exchange on the subject of custom ROM.

I've read on Amazon that it is also known as the LYF1, but there is also a lot of confusion over who bought what, as a lot of the tablets seem to be slightly different.

Hello! there is a CyanogenMod jellybean rom for this. Google for Cyanbook Jelly Bean 4.2.2 .If you have the gingerbread, you should have a recovery installed. Download it and install CWM. I have not tried the gingerbread recovery yet so please take precaution! I could PM the links to these if asked because I still cannot post links. Hope this helps

After i saw that they supported Linux i went out to to see if there's anyone have ever installed Linux on it before, and it turned out that it is easy to do, and there's already an ubuntu image ready to be installed onto this board. (Just google "Mini210S ubuntu sd" )
Now the BIG question, how to handle the bootloader ? i personnaly seem to lack some knowledge into the boot process of android chineese tablet, but with your help guys i hope i can do it and establish a nice old tutorials to do it.
For info, i have a herotab opened and internal SD card removed in order to do tests on !
OK so I'm sure I'm opening up an old thread but I'm lost..
My daughter's cheap generic pink tablet (comes up as alcatel when plugged in with USB) is dead
Turning on normally I get the revolving android sign (forever) - I think this might be a boot loop (I've googled A LOT today)
So combinations of buttons to turn it on with and without USB / power plugged in I always end up with the dead robot.. at which point nothing at all..
It's generic, out of warranty and was cheap so it might be a great opportunity for me to find out a bit more and learn to use some new tools but I have NO IDEA WHERE TO START!!
Of course it's dead.. so I'm going along with probably having to buy a new one.. but I hate being beaten.. I'm a SQL developer so I'm not short of nouse but I have no idea what I'm doing... and the lingo has me beat..
So when I connect the tablet to the PC I can see it as a drive.. I've assigned nice useful drive letters but windows 7 is adamant these are portable drives (2 of them) with nothing on them.. now there can't be nothing because with nothing where would it get the piccies from to display telling me all is not well..
then I see about flashing.. .well I sort of see the concept but seriously.. it's a generic tablet, it had ICS on it but other than that I have no clues about its real origins other than the alcatel driver Windows installed the first time I plugged it in (by which time it was already FUBAR)
so.. ready for the mickey extraction but also really would like some help..
(and a cheap replacement for my daughter to stop the tears while I play with the old one)
(and a bag to put over my head so nobody sees me playing with a PINK tablet)
found the link
if it helps.. this is the tablet I bought
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370695751902
so potentially there's something in there that will tell you what the gubbins inside it really are...
if you tell us about the CPU maybe we can help a bit.

Have you tried getting into recovery? Sorry if you already said you tried, i sorta skimmed it. if you dont know how to get into recovery it should be Turn off fully, volume up and power button or volume down.
I have tried recovery. That's when I get the dead android. If I just turn on normally I get what I believe is called a boot loop

You might be able to recover the phone by using jtag but if the hardware has something broken you have no chance unless you replace that specific part.
