I'm currently at the end of my rope with my rooted Droid Eris... I've got Cyanogen 6 running on it, overclocked to 700mhz, but it's reeeeeeeally been getting on my nerves lately and I need a new phone.
None of VZW's choices really jump out at me, and I'm eligible to upgrade next Sunday. I was considering the Samsung Fascinate since it's A.) Free, B.) easy to root, and C.) not overkill for me. I don't need a 4g phone seeing as there's no 4g network in my area yet. I love Swype, I don't need a slide-out keyboard, so that cuts the Droid 3 BOGO offer out for me. Droid X2 looks okay, but there's no telling when Root will be available for that phone either. The Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt are insanely overpriced since they're $200 and $250 respectively, both have single cores, and barely more memory than the Fascinate, and the screens aren't as nice as the AMOLED. Only issue is VZW discontinued the Fascinate, not sure if I could get one off Amazon or not, but I doubt any Verizon store will have a new one, I don't want a refurb.
Anyone have any suggestions? My only requirements are < $200, no keyboard, rootable, and not an LG (everyone I know has had TERRIBLE luck with LG phones). I'd prefer a Samsung or HTC because Moto sucks at locking their phones down.
I have the incredible 2 and from what I hear the x2 handles dual core not well. I rooted my inc 2a soon as it came out and it came with froyo :/ there is the xtc clip method and soon htc might start unlocking bootloaders for it. It is single core but is mighty fast enough for me. I don't have 4G yet either so I didn't need it

Okay I'm pretty much sick of how slow my G1 is, and I want a high end Android phone. I'm stuck with T-Mobile no exceptions and I do have a budget, and I can't get any discounts for extending my contract. I'm guessing most people will say the Nexus One but I really don't think it's worth the 500$, I'd spend 500$ on the Dell Streak/ Dell Mini 5 but I'm a bit hesitant on the Nexus One, Thanks in advance.
Why don't you think the Nexus one is worth the $500? (It's also subsidized btw).
There's rumors floating of T-mobile getting a few devices coming soon that are on par or better than the current snapdragon lineup also. I'd sit tight for a month or two and see what happens.
If you don't want to dish out $500 for the Nexus One (It is worth it, great specs, a great modding scene, and always getting the latest android updates first) then get the mytouch 3G slide. Hardware Keyboard, specs on par with the Nexus One (except the mytouch 3g has a 600 mhz processor while the N1 has a 1 ghz processor). Wes Garner (a well known android dev) is working on rooting the phone and porting CyanogenMod to it.
Your problem is there are few options that use TMO's 3G band. If you don't mind using edge you can try the GSM Droid but that will cost about $500 too.
I see this as the best option for Tmob/Andorid
I might get the Dell Stream/ Dell Mini 5, even though it comes out in 2 months I might get it instead.
well the mytouch 3g slide might be 300 or more
cuz he doesn't have discount options
maybe try the marketplace for unlocked phones
Get the Nexus One and you will be a TMobile happy camper!
The Nexus One isn't worth 530$ to me. The Dell Streak on the other hand is.

what point are you trying to argue then? seems like your mind is made up.
Which of these listed phones do you think is the best from CES 2011
Motorola Atrix
Motorola Bionic
htc Thunderbolt
T-Mobile G-Slate
Sony Ericsson Xperia arc
Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
P.s And which carrier Sprint, Verizion, AT&T, T-Mobile is the best carrier for service and data/Internet.
Phone: HTC Thunderbolt
Servce: Verizon I have LTE in my area
The Bionic and Atrix have better specs but because of Motorola's habit of crippling devices, I cant support them. Maybe they will lock the bootloader maybe they wont, I can only base it off past experience and past experience tells me they will.
also Dual cores are nice but the OS and apps wont take full advantage of it for quite some time.
Hey thanx for replying, I have my htc EVO, but sprint service is just not cutting it.
HTC ThunderBolt. Where I live T-Mobile ain't cuttin' it! I still have my G1 and love it but when my contract is up the Thunderbolt will be hitting shelves and my job gets me 20% discount on Verizon every month.
Agreed about Motorola, I can't support them and happen to love HTC devices allot.
hd2 remains
The Atrix looks really nice, but I daren't think about the battery life on it. I guess it charges when in the dock though so it might not be too bad.
Anyway, I'm in the UK and wouldn't mind Three picking up any of those phones!
The Atrix is clearly the best. Thunderbolt? Not even close.
I just got my Nexus One back so i will be using it until Samsung's new Galaxy S 2 comes out, hopefully with Orion under the hood
Phone: Sony Xperia Arc. I like the look of it (most of the phones bored me) and it has a really good camera apparently.
Service: Verizon has service everywhere (apparently a lot in California where just about every other server lacks), but in my area, it doesn't matter because all the carriers have service here. I use T-Mobile and the service is quite fast here, no dropped calls and I won't probably won't switch carriers. I would check the map and avoid carrier fanboys trying to make you switch(seriously, why is it that US has carrier fanboys?!)
Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time to read through this post.
I have a MyTouch 3G 1.2, and im looking to upgrade to a different phone, not because I'm not satisfied with it, but because of the dearth of roms available for it. My upgrade has to be to a phone that can run on the tmobile carrier. Id rather not get a higher end model because the only things I have for trade is the phone, an old blackberry pearl, and an old itouch. I was eyeing the HD2, but I'm not sure if I can find someone willing to trade for the above items.
If any of you have any suggestions, please let me know.

HD2 is a fantastic option to have in mind
Dont do HD2!! If you like samsung wait for the vibrant 4G if you like HTC mytouch 4G! I have it and I love it
Curent : HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4G)
Dead : Sidekick iD
Sidekick 2010
G1
iPhone 2G
Check your local Craigslist. I see "like new" HTC HD2s on Craigslist for $175-$200 quite often.
On eBay at least, your MyTouch 3G 1.2 is worth at least $100 and your iPod Touch at least $80. Not sure about the Blackberry, but from just what you have, I think you could easily make up most of the cost of an HD2 if you buy from Craigslist.
when i was in the club and tok bout my new HD2 out of my pocket the whole dance floor lit up the screen is so big and bright so i tarded to a vibrant and now just i got one probblem with it cant stop flashing new rom leaks lool
Thanks guys. I was considering the mytouch 4G, but there's nothing I can trade for such an expensive phone. I've been checking on craigslist, but it seems most people would rather get cash...

I would just sell some goods on eBay or something. Sell your iPod and borrow a little and then turn around and sell your current phone.
I'm fine with the htc desire with its high customization!!
Yeah, I think you'll have to do what Omen says and sell some stuff up front and maybe borrow some. Ebay usually gets top dollar, just use actual pics rather than stock photos.
CL definitely has the best deals, right now my local CL has an HD2 listed for $200 and even a few week old Samsung Captivate, also for $200.
HTC Desire is a really nice phone. I have the CDMA version and thought about getting a GSM version to replace my iPhone, but the GSM versions are really expensive, $400+. Probably because they were never subsidized by any US carrier.
Any way you go, I can tell you the 1GHz Snapdragon phones are a night and day difference over the MyTouch 3G in performance. I find the MyTouch 3G to feel sluggish, but the 1GHz phones are very responsive and fast. Once you try one, you can't go back.
Well, I don't really want to ship stuff to people, so I guess I'll have to troll Craigslist. Is the desire also snapdragon? I don't think there are that many people willing to trade away an unsubsidized phone. Forgot to mention, I also have an xbox 360. Could you guys give me a price approximation for each of the items I have? I can't really use a computer for the rest of the week. Thanks for all your help!

I don't know about you but I am waiting for a Tegra 2 phone as I am sure we it will get some awesome games for it. That thing is a BEAST. Unless it is down clocked :/
Yep, an HTC Desire has a 1GHz Snapdragon. It's pretty much a slightly updated Nexus One. The only differences I'm aware of is it has real buttons instead of the touch sensitive ones, and a virtual optical trackball instead of a real one. I doubt you will find one on CL because the GSM versions were ever subsidized here. The ones on eBay are either CDMA (US Cellular/Alltel) or GSM ones for sale by people in other countries that will ship to the US. Of course, Nexus One is a good one too, but also unsubsidized.
As for your stuff, if you want to sell on CL, I would just search your local CL to see what others are trying to sell it for. You can expect some people will want to bargain, so if you want top dollar, I would price it close to the higher prices you see, but accept offers better than the lowest prices you see. If you want to sell ASAP, then you'll probably have to price close to the lowest prices.
Tegra 2 will definitely be a beast, but I'm thinking to buy one without contract is going to be much more $$$ than an HD2 for quite awhile.
Although if you're sticking to TMO anyway, maybe it's worth renewing your contract to get a new phone at a subsidized price. I saw a thread on another site about subsidized pricing for existing TMO customers:

Galaxy S / S2 or Nexus S
Definitively !
I came from HTC to Samsung S and it is realy awsome !
My father works for tmobile, so I have the employee plan. I can't upgrade phones (at least I don't think I can). Ive seen a lot of N1s.on CL, but I wanted the HD2 because of it's high customobility. I mean, 3OSs on one phone? That's like getting windows, linux, and max osx for your desktop. If there are any other cheap snapdragon phones, let me know. And I'll get right on to posting on CL. Incidentally, are there any of you living in socal?

Was gonna recommend a Tmobile G2 but might be out of your price range.
I would get a HD2, seen them in the $200 range. I was gonna pick up one for a backup to my G2.
Decided that I might as well sell off some stuff I don't use anymore. I've posted everything on craigslist, and im waiting for offers. Hopefully ill get enough money to buy some of the newer phones.
Also, I was originally considering buying the G2, just for its 4G capability, but it has a slower processor than the HD2, and that's one of my priorities right now.
If you guys can think of any other phones that might fit the bill, let me know please. Thanks!

Your kidding right? Your reading too much into clock speed. The HD2 uses the first generation snapdragon and the G2 uses the second generation snapdragon processor. HD2 uses the Adreno 200 GPU the G2 uses the Adreno 205. You need to do more researching.
Ahaha. Did my research, and apparently the G2 can be overclocked to 1.9GHz. Any other phones that can beat like this?

Sorry for the lame post but what the heck -
My deal:
Verizon (US), off contract.
Want to tether to my Nook(CM7) so it seems like 4G would be good.
If possible, want a battery that will last me at least a day,2 would be great.
boot-loader not locked - or work around.
Not completely obsolete in 2 years.
Considering Droid Charge v. changing carriers to Sprint and getting Epic 4g. Charge is 200 bucks which seems way too much but it has a good battery (supposedly).
I thought about the Incredible 2 but 1) Not 4G and 2) locked. Same with Droid X2.
Opinions/Advice mucho appreciado'ed!
Charge or thunderbolt are the only 2 that meet your requirements I think.
Edit: Also LG revolution.

I hear thunderbolt does not disappoint!!! besides... it's from HTC and I've always been a fan of their build quality....
i had one
I second @rosshalz
Thanks folks!
Well I just saw the specs on the HTC Evo 3d. Wow. Unlocked, dual 1.2ghz, 1730miAh battery. I actually see the 3d as a minus but with it's other specs I think I'm going to switch providers to Sprint, wait a couple of weeks and go for it.
Plus it's cheaper for me (with Sprint credits) than Verizon's offerings.
I can't see any downsides.
Read last post.
Best Sprint 4g wimax phone for Internet Sharing? Pretty easy question, all I care about is a phone good enough to root, run a custom rom and enable internet sharing. Yes, I understand LTE is better but I plan on getting a Windows Phone 8 device after Sprint realizes how stupid they are being and adds them.
I was thinking of the Evo 4g but having issues finding one. What about a Epic 4g Touch?
Not one person has any help? Should this be in a different place?
If you live in a Wimax market, the Epic 4G Touch is a great phone. I bought mine in January and even though I do not live in a Wimax market, I still love this phone and in.my opinion it is well worth the $250 I paid then. I would imagine with a new contract it's probably about a hundred bucks now. Off contract you would pay anywhere between $150 and $300 depending on condition and what the seller is asking.
There is plenty of support from developers, we have official ICS and Samsung is working on a JB release.
The E4GT does not have a locked boot loader. Extremely easy to flash custom ROMs, very fast, smooth, excellent build quality.

I would also like it to run Android 4.0 or higher that I can purchase pretty cheaply through ebay or cowboom. I am not sure if I am staying with Sprint and I have 1 of 3 phones still under contract but Sprint 3g is so slow in Houston I need a 4g phone.
