Gmail 2.3.4 - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Does anyone know of a good way to downgrade to Gmail 2.3.4? I'm not happy with how 2.3.5 screwed up all of the notification apps, and most importantly, it messed up the functionality of SlideScreen Pro.

Nevermind. Figured it out. My SlideScreen Pro is very happy now!

how did you downgrade?
i like the old gmail as well, you can set its notification sound

Probably the most important thing to do is go into Market and uncheck automatic updates to Gmail. Do this before doing anything else.
Using Root Explorer, I went to system/app and renamed Gmail.apk to Gmail.apk.bak.
I then downloaded Gingerclone v1 (yes, v1 since it's pretty old) and unzipped it. I copied Gmail.app to my SD card.
Then I copied the Gmail.app from Gingerclone v1 over to system/app and rebooted my phone.

why dont you just upload it for them i would but since you have it already you might as well it could help them out

I'll upload it tonight after work

found it!
I found version 2.3.4.1 here:
ow, I can't tell you where, cuz I'm new here.

well, here it is, hope this doesn't get me in trouble!

maybe someone else can repost as a link
I found this thread because I too was looking for the same thing. I use the E-mail Notifier app so it can keep going off until I acknowledge it, but it can't work with version 2.3.5.

You mean like this:
Code:

Thanks for the link, it saved me some time searching Google for the older apk.

Does the phone need to be rooted in order to make the 2.3.4 work? Mine is not rooted and I continue to receive an error that requires a "forece close". Thanks.

Great news for 2.2 users with bloatware!

For everyone who was weary to remove the bloatware on their 2.2 install throught ADB:
I have just received an email from Joel Bourquard, dev on TiB, and he's just sent me a test version of an updated TiB that works on our phones with the 2.2 update. I have it to give out to those who want it and told me to expect it in the market for download soon.
Edit: Totally just realized I got click happy and placed this in the Dev section. If a mod could move it to Apps and Themes that'd be great. Or if it stays here, I don't know
Edit2: Here is the link for the updated test version: link removed, available in market

Was there word on if the current donate code will work on the updated version? I will test this out as well if you want to pm it or send a link. Thanks.
Donate keys work for all versions of TiB, once you have one, there is no need to get another one. I edited my OP to contain the download link.
Thanks. I'm a donor. Just a little weirded out that he isn't sharing it himself and I downloading it through a third party.

I promise you that is the link from the email. I can post the transcript if you would like. Also, www.matrixrewriter.com is Joel's site if you would like to go visit for yourself.
Works Perfectly. Thanks!
Of course it does! Joel is probably one of the best devs in the Android community
I am digging the blue outline of apps that were frozen. I don't remember seeing that in the previous version. I am confirming I have this working as well. Thanks for posting!
Works like a charm. Thanks for sharing!
+1 It is back to working awesome!!! I will def be donating to this guy very soon. One of the best apps out there.
Oh no worries. Thanks for this, really.

super awesome! thanks so much for this
Don't thank me! I didn't write the app, I just sent him the required info from our phone. You guys should be thanking Joel by donating! He's a great guy and an even better dev, and definitely has one of the best apps in the market.

this is a .zip file... how do we install on froyo??
I uninstalled tb after backing up my apps and used side load wonder machine to install this version of tb. I did the enable non market apps adb code but for some reason that wouldn't take. That us why I did the machine.

Its not a zip file. Its an apk file. If it appears as a zip file after download change the file extension back to apk.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it then, you did it wrong. What size file is your settings.DB file? If its anything less then 34kb then you did the mod wrong.

[HACK] Skype + US 3G

This is a modified version of the new Skype app that supports calls using 3G data in the US. The version in the market only allows calls over WiFi in the US.
www (dot) megaupload (dot) com (slash) ?d=9GPDBTEF
Checksum:
SHA256(skype_signed_aligned.apk)= 53f6b81819e4181de89b11c0d9002529a2a23df24d1d68d945c4546c36611317
Sorry, new user.. Won't let me post links. Someone feel free to post the link below.
[UPDATE]
Uploaded new apk - zipaligned this time. It may or may not help with people who have been having trouble.

Looks suspicious. Too scared to try it.
Here's another post alleging to Skype over 3G: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800834
It's real. To be specific about the change:
1) Disassemble the apk (apktool will do it)
2) edit <dir>/smali/com/skype/raider/service/y.smali
3) Line 2097 needs to read:
const/4 v0, 0x0
instead of
const/4 v0, 0x1
4) re-assemble, sign, install
Basically, it's a one byte change, as these things usually are.

Try uninstalling your existing copy. Also, you might have to download from PC. I've had trouble downloading from phone w/ megaupload.
I hope I'm not zombied. I have a new G2, with no root. I uninstalled skype, then installed the OP's apk using "adb install <.apk>". There is no skype icon. It is installed. An reinstall (adb install -r) did not make an icon appear. A reboot didn't help. Unfortunately, adb uninstall fails. The contents of the .apk look legit, but someone really crafty could have all my google login for all I know. Should I factory-reset or what?
App crash in my SAMSUNG I5500
Strange that everyone's having problems. I'm running cm6 on n1. I installed using astro on the phone. Does the checksum match? Maybe apktool rebuilt it differently or something. Code-wise it's just that 1 byte change. Oh well. Hopefully it works for someone.
Posted a new zipaligned apk (see original post for updated url). Unfortunately I only have a Nexus One w/ CM6 to test with, but it works here.

Will this work on 1.6 too?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
It should work on whatever the official Skype app supports. Which apparently does not include the galaxy s phones fwiw. Not sure about 1.6. You can try the one from the market first if you like.

[APP] Google Mail 2.3.2

Hi,
attached is the new version of gmail.
with friendly greet
starbase64
i have rooted Desire with AuraxTsense rom ... g mail is "locked" to the rom so i can't uninstall it or update...
is possible to have a renamed .apk (just like for googl maps "brut modded") so i can install both and then use the updated one? or where i can found it? tnx
I have this on my Vibrant but it still doesn't have the priority inbox feature.
I managed to find the apk on one of the Samsung forums shortly after its announcement - using a MIUI build on my HD2, and it didn't like pasting the new Gmail over the old one in /system/app/, nor removing the old one and pasting the new one - it was still showing the previous version without the priority inbox and so forth. To fix this, I had to restore the original Gmail apk that I'd backed up, then clear data from the settings/applications menu, then paste the new apk, then install over it from the market.
Native Android users will need to be rooted to do this, if it wasn't obvious.

You should be able to remove the original with Titanium Backup, then you should be good to go.
You people do know that this is available from the Market, and will update the version in your phone's /system folder just fine.
Right?

Apparently they don't... I updated it yesterday here from the market, although I don't use the GMail app at all...
The update is not yet available to everyone. TBH I cannot see most of the Google apps in the market myself.
This is just an opportunity for those less fortunate to mess around with it.

Google Books apk for honeycomb

Could a nice person from the US pull the Google books apk and upload it for us guys across the pond?
Bah you're making us Brits look bad and incapable of using google.

I dont really like getting apks off random sites what with malware etc, and could only find the mobile version on xda. Thanks I'll try this though.
Hmm that website wouldn't work for me anyway.
try either of these:
http://db.tt/f4CwLhq
I tested it before I posted but I get your point.
stuntdouble - yeh I trust you so went to download it but the website kept giving me some rubbish about already downloading a file or something, thanks though
Dufran3 - thanks but doesn't seem to be the correct version? Its displaying like the mobile version on my tablet, I was after landscape 2-page reading with nice renderscript animation, unless I'm missing a setting somewhere..?
Ill try and download the one stuntdouble posted again and give that a go
That is the Phone version of google books.
I was under the impression that the only tablet version of Google books was the one on the Xoom and that the apk on the Xoom was odexed. Additionally the odexing on the Xoom uses an opcode that [bak]smali currently can't handle (hence can't odex)
If the US transformer comes with Google books I'd be interested to see it. But I didn't think it did. If it does, does it also come with Android Movie Studio? Because I really want to play with that.
If you go the development section of this forum there's a ROM called PRIME! v1.2 that includes the tablet version of Google books from the stock US transformer ROM. You could just flash that ROM or unzip the ROM and push or copy system/app/BooksTablet.apk to your transformer.

Edit - here is the apk for anyone else who wants it, I just copied it to /system/app with root explorer but you can push with adb as well. Really nice app I hope they expand the Google Books service to Europe soon.

Thank you, I don't know what was different about your .apk, but it worked. I had a different copy of the tablet apk but it always said "application not installed" when I tried to install it. I have the Acer A500 but I deleted the app and when I wanted it back I had all kinds of problems finding it.

But I can not install the apk, the message is "The application not installed."
Somehow, I put the email.apk in the system app folder in ICBIND flashable zip file, then flashed the ROM and it appear again (I also fixed permissions and wipe data of the app). But it FORCE CLOSE whenever I add a new email.
Somebody can help me please Really miss the stock one

try installing the rom first. then push the apk. then go into cwm, clear cache, dalvik and fix permissions. dont install the apk. back up the original and simply overwrite it with the one you downloaded. hopefully that will work.
