Hey, I was wondering if there is any screenshot apps that work on CM7. I tried many from the Market and they all just show black when I try to take a picture of my home screen.

Screenshot should be built into CM7 by default. Just hold down the power button on top and a menu should pop up asking if you want to silent mode, airplane mode, choose profile, screenshot, reboot, or power off.

hold the home button and power button at the same time and you will see a flash, then go to the gallery to see the screen shot

First: I tried to search but was unsuccessful. So my apologies if I didn't look hard enough.
When I want to screen capture a message, I hold down the back button and hit home, correct? Well as soon as I hold down the back button, it just goes back to the list of messages I have. I don't even lift my finger yet. Is there another way to screen cap?
Yeah, with market apps. Have to be rooted though, but if you're on XDA that's usually not a problem. I personally use ShootMe.

i am rooted, so i suppose i will try one from the market. thanks
It is possible to use the hold down back and hit home method to cap SMS if you are fast about it. I agree that taking a screen cap should not be such an issue. Maybe we will get a fix in the next OTA.

When you hold the back button down and it goes back to your list of messages, DO NOT RELEASE THE BACK BUTTON. Continue to hold it, select the message you want to screen capture and then press the home button to take the picture.
This will work with any app that exits upon hitting the back button.

Interesting - I don't have this problem at all. Stock ROM, no root, etc.

interesting... still doesnt work. I hold down back, it goes back. click on the message with back button still held but the screen just flickers as if holding back prevents it from going into the message.
I just tested. Hold down the back button and be quick about holding down home with the back until you get a buzzzz (mine is on vibrate) showed up right away in the screencapture folder. Easy money.
It's almost like back and home at the same time, but home is a few milliseconds late to the game. Try it a few times, it will happen
lol, how silly to require the back button to be held down. I thought when I did it I was only using the home key, but yeah I can't grab those SMS screens quick enough!

Sorry, can't help you there. There are some apps on the Market that take screen shots but I can't recommend any since I never have problems with the built in one.

Try shootme. Its not in the market any more, but i've found the apk before here on xda.

I don't think the previous responders get your question. Some roms do support custom boot animations, there are a few threads on the site that explain how to do this. Feel free to look some up.
I think he wants a button in the shut down menu that will take a screenshot of whatever is under the menu. Haha not sure ...

Similar to what is available in CM7? Don't know how that is integrated, but it would require a decent amount of smali work to get it accomplished.
Obviously the title doesn't say it all. Haha

i know its late bute Drocap2 (probably have to get the apk from a search as it was pulled from the market) will let you have a notification bar trigger, map screenshotting to the search button, and has a shake trigger if that helps

Honestly, it's a timing issue... I used to have a hard time getting shots by holding Back and then hitting Home, but I've gotten MUCH better at it. It's all in the timing of how you do it, the best way i can explain it is to press back and kind of say "one one-thousand" to yourself then tap Home without moving your finger off of Back. You'll here the camera shutter sound and it'll be saved to your SD card in a folder for screen shots.
This is the only way I take my shots and it works fine, provided you've got the timing down (also, I've only used Froyo ROMs).

There are still some things you'll never get a screenshot with. Why not just use one of the screen capture apps like DroCap or Shootme? There are likely hundreds more that do the same thing as well.

If I add the widget button labeled "go to sleep", does this so anything different than just simply turning the screen off the regular way?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I don't believe so, pressing the power button is considered putting the phone to sleep, so that widget probably does the same thing. It's useful if your button is broken or going to break and you don't want to press the power button to put it to sleep.
Ok, that's what I figured. Thanks for the feedback

I just flashed to sky ics yesterday and I everythings works fine except I cannot take a screen cap and I have tried both method, volume down with power and power with home button. Also I can't seem to have my home keys button vibrate.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

How exactly are you trying to take the screenshot?? Are you pressing power + home at the same time and holding?? I just tried it and it worked
And as far as the vibrating goes, is "vibrate on screen tap" checked under sound settings??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
home+power . Timing is a little more critical than it should be AFAIK.. push power a split second before home and hold both for a second or so.

Thank You guys for that quick reply
The Vibrate thing was just me being stupid and could not turn it back on Thanks lilair and stoopendis, but yea i tried everything with the screen cap and still doesn't work, it used to work fine with just power button and home before i flash. My buddy who also flashed to sky ics and his screen cap worked fine too, he also has the same update.
Geez that's too bad. I gotta tell you though... it took me a while to get the sequence/timing down. I swore up and down it didn't work! But persistance paid off and I have my sc now although sometimes it takes a fee trys.

The easiest way to screencap on ICS is press home for a split second then hold power for roughly half a second while still pressing Home.
My girl has the i727r from rogers and she updated to their 4.0.4 update. She can't figure out how to take screenshots. Someone with info please enlighten me please! Thanks!

home + power button same time
I had the same problem. In GB you had to press the home + power buttons, but now with ICS you have to hold it for a second or two.
Home + Power on AT&T takes me into an open-apps type screen, along with a link to task manager. It doesn't take a screenshot as far as I can tell.
Home + power button at the same time but you have to hold it down now until it takes a screenshot. Like 3-4 seconds.

When I hold the home button down, it opens the Task Manager screen. I then press the Power button and hold that for a long time, and nothing happens. When I release the buttons, my Skyrocket reboots. Can't figure out how to take screenshots anymore. I've tried all the different combinations of buttons and timing that I found searching for this, but nothing works. Wish I hadn't "upgraded" to ICS now.
Sorry, I'm on AT&T but I've heard that taking screenshots on the Skyrocket should be the same.
Hahaha. Unreal man, unreal. You guys amaze me

UCLD2
Samsung removed the Power + Vol. Down (note the order) since UCLD2 (ICS TouchWize roms), Power + Home is your only option on the stock touchwiz offereing. You need to muck around with framework jar to enable it. Obviously, my ROMS (EMBRYO) have it enabled since I am used to the Power + Vol. Down
