[Q] Kies and updating. - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello all. I just want to make sure I have this straight. Because I have an ATT infuse 4g, kies will not work with it because it is not an "international" phone. I keep getting the error device not supported by kies 2.0. After some looking around it seems that I have to find kies mini for the infuse. I am ok with that.
The only thing i want to make sure i am able to do is update to GB when it is released. I am not rooted and i havent found a reaseon to root yet. My issue is that i am now living in Germany and would like to be able to update the phone when it is finally released. Is there anything speacial i am going to have to do because i am living overseas and am no longer on att. I have factory unlocked the phone and am now using it on O2. Just some insight on what my steps are going to be would really help. I am just trying to be prepared for when the official release of GB happens. Thanks alot.

does any one have any ideas on this for me??

You don't install Kies to run the GUI front-end; it's only for the Windows drivers. This way, you can use PC-based programs to interface with your phone (ex. SuperOneClick for rooting).
If you want Gingerbread when it's released and you can't use the OTA update, you'll probably have to download the update and use recovery mode to manually install it.

I unlocked my phone. Using ATT service. I still couldn't connect through Kies. My infuse is not sopported. ANyone know how to connect through Kies?

Since our phones support vanilla USB mass storage, there's no real reason to use Kies.
The only reason to install Kies is for the drivers needed for ADB and Odin/Heimdall to work.

I have downloaded Firefox Aurora on my PC and saved it on the desktop. Not sure how do I transfer it to my phone. I'm connected using the usb cable but Kies wont detect the phone.

[Q] Samsung Kies after Flashing to Froyo 2.2 not working

I already have Froyo 2.2, I'm not trying to get it through KIES because I know it is not possible because while I had 2.1 which I got at Christmas, I finally managed to get Kies to work w/ Kies v1.5.3.10092_2 while I had Android 2.1 on my phone.
My problem is that now that I've updated to Android 2.2, I again get this terrible message:
"The Device is not Supported by Kies"
Computer Info:
Windows XP SP3
Device info:
Firmware version: 2.2 (Flashed through Odin)
Baseband version: I897UCJI6
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build #: FROYO.UCJI6
and I am rooted, by which I did through this 1-Click Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I know that there is a update to Kies, since I had it but had to downgrade to the version I have so that it would work with Android 2.1, but I just dont know if updating it would make it work with my Flashed and Rooted 2.2 Captivate
Is there better software for my PC out there that will work for my phone? Or is there a way to get Kies to work with 2.2? I want to be able to back up and edit my contacts, and be able to save all my messages. These two things are highly important to me.
Being someone that has come from using Motorola Phone Tools, I already hate trying to get computer software to work with my phone, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Why do you bother with Kies? US models don't support Kies, and Kies Mini is only used to flash an official ROM. There are much better apps out there if you use Kies to copy contacts, email, music, etc.

First off, I did get Kies(full) to work while I had 2.1 on my phone. And I do have a US model.
What kind of apps are suggested?
And are there any computer programs besides Kies that work with my Captivate and run on XP?
Again, I'm looking for things that will allow me to
1) Transfer my texts/conversations from my phone to my computer
2) Allow me to both transfer my contacts from my phone and allow me to edit them and send them back to the phone (or just edit the ones that are already on the phone and then save them to the computer).
The reason why I want Kies to work is because it does those things. If there is something better that gives me an interface on my computer to work with itd be great, but I don't know of any, which is why I asked on these forums.
Thanks in advance
install one of the usb driver bundles, I updated kies and after it wouldnt recognize my phone anymore had to redo drivers.

Was your captivate flashed to 2.2 and Rooted?
I'm trying to make sure that it isnt why I'm having problems
EDIT: After updating to the latest version of Kies and reinstalling all the drivers and everything, it still would not recognize my device.
hi I did you get kies to work with captivate 2.1 I have being trying since last october no luck I try everything maybe I have the worng kies or driver can you post all the linke that I need thanks
Contacts can be backed up through either at&t or through google. Not sure if you can access them online.
Sms backup is what I use. It backs up all your sms to your gmail so you can access it on any computer

you have to use certain drivers for it to work on kies dunno what difference is but i have like 4 different usb driver sets and i dont remember which worked or what i got it from. I d/l 2 off of here I know and I dont think its the one with the odin 1 click to stock. It might be the ones from the samsung site. try rolling back the drivers.

[Q] Can't root to save my life.

I've tried every method. Odin doesn't recognize my phone. I've downloaded drivers a half dozen times. I've gotten every file set up only to have odin just sit there without giving me a com.
Then I've tried several versions of z4, oneclickroot, and gingerbreak. Nothing works. I'm wondering if there's just no way to root or flash my phone.
I'm on an sgs i500.04
Gingerbread 2.3.5
K EI20
Was rooted with oneclick till update, through kies, to gingerbread.
Cspire.
Anyone please help. I'm going a little crazy over this.
i give up
I guess a way just doesn't exist for my phone.
Things I've tried unsuccessfully:
DoomLorD.zip (every version) (Unable to copy SU files, reboot, not rooted)
OneClick (every version)
Gingerbreak ( '' )
z4
SDK with adb recovery (E:signature verification failed)
Odin (will not recognize my phone in download mode)
Cannot get heimdall(sp) do download.? probably couldnt use it anyway.
I thought to wait on a rooted ICS version, and would love to flash that to my phone, but have no ODIN! Go figure.
Anyway, I guess there is just not a way to do my phone. It resists all methods. Does anyone else with a i500 Showcase on the kies update to gingerbread 2.3.5 have this problem? Is this Cspire gingerbread unhackable?
Hey, sent you a pm...
Same Problem
I have tried to root my Samsung galaxy s running 2.3.5 with base-band s:i500.04 K.EI20 for months since updating with kies. I've tried all of the same methods listed by the original poster has anyone worked out this issue as of yet? Please help if possible.

Who is your carrier?
jbreakfield, you're alive?
samsung drivers
Do you have proper samsung drivers installed for your windows version..Also check to see if usb debugging is activated. Im no expert but hopefully this helps.
Another idea is to try a different usb port. I had one go bad.
I spent about a day uninstalling, rebooting, installing several different drivers. Also rebooting after each new install. No matter what I did ODIN wouldn't see my phone.
I got the idea to try another usb on the back of my desktop pc.
ODIN finally connected!
Hope this helps. Regards.

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated...
SuperOneClick

enable debugging on the phone, plug it in, if you need drivers use the ones inside the zip file. Run the program and hopefully the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

[Q] Problem with my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III

Okay, so I got the GS3, rooted it, and everything was going great. Granted, I'm a noob when it comes to android and all their fun little gadgets, I kept the stock ROM on my phone... than T-Mobile sent out the update for the phones, I didn't unroot my phone before the update. I updated my phone and it is now NOT rooted. I have tried to root my phone again, but have been unsuccessful. My phone now says its modified, and I can't check for updates... the app called Triangle Away no longer works, and I can't get my phone to say normal status. My phone is still NOT rooted, however, it says modified. How can I root my phone now that the update has come out and has been installed on my phone that originally was rooted? I don't have a backup of my stock ROM when it was rooted because the update deleted my backup that I originally had. I have a 2003 DELL Latitude C610 with Windows XP Professional installed on it, and was wondering if my laptop was compatible with rooting my phone? The first time I rooted my phone, I had to use a friend of mines laptop because I could not root it on my laptop.Thank you for reading, PLEASE HELP!
My advice would be to flash the stock ROM that you updated to, with an insecure kernel that allows root. You will also need a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM (find them in the first forum link below).
You should check out the T-Mobile Galaxy S III Android Development forum for a bunch of ROM options. Here is a thread within the forum mentioned above that details all of the information you will need, along with the ROM download links and plenty of instruction.
If you are looking to stay stock, I would suggest flashing the pre-rooted T999_UVDLJA ROM, located in that forum. Since you lost root you should just use the Odin method to get your new ROM loaded. Once you are up and running, I would suggest getting a custom recovery on there ASAP for backups/restorations etc.

Okay, I will try your suggested methods and get back to you when I can.. thank you for your help
Okay, so I tried to flash the stock rooted ROM onto my phone, but the Odin program keeps getting stuck at "Get pit for mapping".. now I tried it on my friends laptop when I first wanted to root my phone and it worked, however, my friend isn't exactly willing to help me at the moment. Any suggestions? I have used multiple different cables and the cable I used on my friends laptop is the same one I'm trying to use on my laptop.. could it be my laptop that's causing the problem?
Hmm sounds like it might be related to your laptop since it worked before with your friend's box... Try setting Odin to Windows XP Compatibility mode with admin access. Unplug all usb ports except for your mouse/keyboard and try again. Hopefully that will let you get Odin past the "Get pit for mapping" issue.
Looks like this "Get pit for mapping" issue has been run across before, try reading up on it here if the above method still won't work.
Yeah, I couldn't manage to get it to work with my laptop.. I got it rooted with a different one though and made a nandroid as to prevent any problems on the future... Thanks for the help you had given

[Q] Help! Samsung Galaxy Captivate i897

PLEASE HELP! My friend gave me his Samsung Galaxy Captivate i897 today saying that he couldn't download many apps and the device hadn't been updated from Android Market to Play Store, instantly I knew the problem was that the device badly needed an android update, when i got home today I went to Samsung's website and headed on over to the downloads page, downloaded the "specific" version of Kies mini launched Kies and let it install all of its drivers and what not. After letting it install drivers I had trouble with getting the device to be recognized by Kies, I got that to work, now it is saying Unregistered device in the firmware category. I have looked for ways to update it with Odin but no luck on that. Also what would be the easiest way to root it, he also wanted me to do that, i figured installing clockworkmod recovery and then flashing a rooted rom to it or using superoneclick or something like that. (BTW the current firmware is 2.1 -update1) My computer is running Windows 8 Pro.
Thanks.

I had the same problem over the weekend, find a win 7 machine and install the drivers and kies and try again. Though tbh I would put cm 10.1 on it instead of GB through kies. There's an Odin guide in the captivate specific forum.

Trying to root s5 neo

ive been trying like hell to root my new s5 neo 903w canadian version, but i can NOT for the life of me get my laptop to properly recognize it in order for odin to see it, in order to flash the canadian version of the 903w root which can be found on chainfire..... ive done reading and did install the cdc android driver, but its giving me code 10 and the driver wont run.
my factory recovery allows me to install update from sd card... can i just put the root file (tar.md5) on my external sd and do it that way?? ive been busting my butt for 3 hours trying to get this darn thing to work properly.
my comptuer sees it just fine while powered on... but download mode i just get a big fat nothing. closest ive gotten is "drivers didnt install properly". windows 7 64 bit.
Help???
the whole reason i want to root is to get all the crap off that i wont use, and to avoid automatic ota updates. i cant even use wifi on it until its rooted as it automatically downloads and wants to install the update, despite dont automatically download updates being checked off in about phone software update.
nobody knows??
I'd love to know if you got this figured out or not
