[Q] Anyone have the Nexus S working on prepaid? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone gotten a Nexus S 4G working on Virgin Mobile USA or Boost Mobile? I'd really like to have a Nexus S, but for reasons I'd rather leave unsaid I can't get on with any of the supported carriers. Also has anyone tried using the AT&T version of the Nexus S on AT&T pay as you go? I'd prefer Boost or VMU, but will deal with AT&T PAYG if I have to.

I have my nexus on Boost and love it...just like it was on Sprint. I don't have 4G in my area and won't for probably years so I made the switch.

Did you have to root the phone or did it just work out of the box?

Boost mobile ics

So you can get a boost evo design 4g $299 that the site says sells with ics already on it. For $55 a month shrinking bill and $10 extra for hotspot my only problem is boost network ain't all that great but it's all sprints network. I had a boost a long time ago not never for anything like a smart phone

Boost uses Sprint network without the benefit of any roaming agreements. Sprint network without the Verizon roaming agreement is horrible. The reason Sprint is rolling out lte is cuz wimax 4g is a failure. There is a reason the service is cheap. Contract and prepay is not comparing apples to apples. It's apples to tomatoes.

i know, but again, this is the thunderbolt forum, not the evo forum. as it's posted here, this is an absolutely pointless thread, nothing more to say.

Well you have the GS4 the One and the LG Optimus G Pro to choose from. As far as the latest phones anyways....

Why not the nexus 4 and you don't have to worry about a contact and this way you can try att or T-Mobile and see what works best for you.

Are all Roms for this phone going to be universal?

I was wondering if the us and international Roms and kernels are all going to be able to be flashed? I am currently on Sprint and I remember with the galaxy nexus we had to have our own section.

Apart of the radio chip (LTE bands support) all Nexus 5 are the same afaik, so i guess all roms are universaly useable on all devices
Yeah I know that but you active a different radio with Sprint.

There are 2 versions of the Nexus 5. The one used in North America (D820) and the one used in the rest of the world (D821). Whether or not ROMs for one will be usable on the other I don't know, but it doesn't matter if you're using AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile in NA because it's all the same phone.

That's because the Sprint version of the GNex was different than the GSM version sold on the Play Store for T-Mobile and AT&T.

This guy is correct. Unlike the GNex, the N5s being sold for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint are all the exact same device.
Thanks everybody as that was a big concern are we going to have 2 different forums then?

[Q] About the Nexus 5 forums.

I am thinking of dropping my grandfathered unlimited data from AT&T and moving to T-Mobile. Is this the forums for the T-Mobile version of the Nexus 5 or all Nexus 5's.

all nexus 5, theres no tmobile nexus 5 xda forums.
All nexus 5's are the same whether you buy it at the T-Mobile store, Sprint store, Google Play or Best Buy. All roms work, all kernels work. No need for more than one forum.

To clarify, there are 2 models of the Nexus 5. D820 for North America and D821 for Rest of the world.
Same ROMs, Same Kernels, NOT same radios.

[Q] gsm to 4g?

I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy s2 i777. But I have it with Walmart Family Mobile service which doesnt offer 3g/4g. Its Gsm unlocked and I don't pay for 4g. So if I want to use internet, either I use my regular network, or I have to use a local unlocked wifi. Is there any way to force unlock, or somehow use my 4g? My phone is rooted if that helps.
If you don't get 4G from your carrier. You can't hack service.
