Wifi Router Force Closing - BAMF Stripped - Thunderbolt General

Hey guys, seeking some community guidance here. Currently running das bamf 1.8 stripped and every time I open the built in HTC tethering application it force closes. I realize I can use third party apps but I get a more consistent connection with the built in HTC app. The app does work and does actually complete the connection but the force close message is driving me nuts. Here's what I've tried:
1. Fixing permissions.
2. Wiping Dalvik Cache
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
4. Fresh install of the rom.
None of these seem to fix the issue. I pay for tethering service by the way, if that matters.
Any suggestions?

[Q] What is it with Pandora?!

Maybe, its just my phone not being flashed properly, but the past few ROMs have had some serious trouble running it stable. With CM7, it constantly hit the skip requiring a reboot to get rid of it. And now even with a modified stock ROM it wont play properly (keeps going to artist station selection). Anybody have an idea as to why this is happening?!
Have you tried clearing the data or reinstalling Pandora? Works fine for me on cm7
I dont think clearing data or reinstalling will work since hes flashed ROMs several times and has the same negative result.
It maybe your data connection.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times with no luck and the same result as previously stated. Surely the Pandora has been removed since I have to re-enter my login info. Guess I will keep trying. Thanks
I was having the same issues with Pandora and the RCMix ROM. I bet that it had something to do with ad blocking, so I signed up for the Pandora One one day free trial, and Pandora works fine again.
Or just use Slacker, which I think is better than Pandora anyway.
I've been having issues as well. Haven't thought of the ad blocking, but I have tried Pandora One and its the same. Long time between songs, and it will often freeze during a song, and then skip the rest of that song. Have had the issue with both Saga and CoreDroid. Might go back to a Froyo ROM to see if that is the difference.

Data connection maybe the culprit. It does this to me when I loose signal for a short instant. Try Pandora over wifi and see if its still there.

It still does it over WiFi for me

Try the Unlimited Pandora app. No ads, unlimited skips...

I think I found a fix for the WIFI DNS problem! You guys are gonna like this!

There is hope!
First off let me start with this my very first G2X had the reboot issue... got another one, NO MORE REBOOT!
But, I still get the DNS issue, where its connected to WIFI but it would load pages, unless u type its ip adress VS the w w w version.
While I was messing with the phone over the WE i started customizing the phone, dled go launcher and some other app to make the phone pretty...
Came across this... WIDGETSOID.
At first look you wouldn't think that this app would do anything, but it basicaly let you custimize trays, kinda like the power setting one.
Are you guys ready? WIDGETSOID has one option that you can incorporate with the tray, its called DATA SYNC NOW, not data sync, with data sync now it forces the sync AND GET YOU INTERNET!!!!!
Hope that helps!
Well I use WiFi all the time. I use it at work where there is no cell service and at home where I have 4G. I don't disable the cell radio but no issues. I'm on CM7.
I guess you are running stock where Tmo tries to force data over their network. Nice find.
I'm still on the stock ROM, the only time I've had any issues with wifi connectivity is immediately after switching over from T-Mo's data. Like when I come home and my wifi is already switched on and I try to use data just as I walk in the door before its fully switched or before I see the wifi calling icon show up. If I give it a few minutes it will correct itself everytime. On my phone, if the the wifi calling icon is on the task bar then both calling and data are working over wifi.
I have found that the stupid little USA Today app will re-establish data one way or another. When my browser is just spinning it's wheels I can fire up USA Today and a few seconds later the browser will respond again.
Hummm i am still on the stock rom as there is no custom rom stable enough yet...
And I have no data plan...
I hope that this little trick will help ppl with DNS issues =)
Screw Tmo and their data requirement!
set dns from the market does the same thing
Force Sync was a workaround for the Wifi DNS issue but it doesn't work on all phones and it isn't a consistent fix. The only known true resolution is to root (I used SuperOneClick 1.9) and then use either Titanium Backup or Bloat Freezer (I use Bloat Freezer) and freeze the My Account apps. In Bloat Freezer, My Account has 3 entries.

I do have a rooted phone, I uninstalled my account instead of freezing them, but I only had 2 entries and not three... What is the third one?!
Thanks
I only have 2 as well.

Doesn't work for everybody. I've tried the stock rom, rooted and froze them and deleted them. Tried froyo roms, same problem. The only rom that made a difference was the GB leak. I haven't tried cm7 yet.
I think the difference is boat freezer. I first tried titanium backup when the issue hit my phone and it didn't work. Then I used bloat freezer where I saw the third entry. I froze that and all of the other tmo bloat and my phone is now perfect. I do remember reading that you also had to freeze the car app along with my account to get the fix to work.
Unfortunately I don't know what the actual cause is this is just what I have done. I will say that when it comes to tech I'm not a noob. I'm an enterprise architect for a 250k seat shop and I'm an ios dev. But this issue is really unique because for the most part nobody has been able to establish a true root cause.

GPS continually starting multiple times

Like title says. Today my GPS began randomly starting every few minutes. I have not installed any new apps or made any other changes, so I can't figure out what is causing this.
Any suggestions?

What rom, any kernel changed, dropped the phone?
Sorry, its totally stock other than a handle full of apps. No drops, and has been in an Otterbox Defender from day 1.

Depending on what you are doing on the phone, and your location settings, it is normal for gps to start automatically. Ie doing a Google search when you have GPS enabled and have allowed Google to access your location as they say "to provide better search results"
Or it could be your wife logging into your htcsense account and using the locate phone feature to find you
LOL. Sitting here with the wife and watching GPS activating. Also, have location access disabled on Google.
This is really strange. I've had the phone a while now, and this is new behavior. It happens even after I have force closed all the apps that might happen to use GPS.

For anyone interested by monitoring the GPS events while watching running apps, I was able to find the culprit. It was the AT&T Mark The Spot App causing GPS to keep activating. Even after doing an FC of the app, within minutes it would start itself again and then GPS would start firing up again. Uninstalled the AT&T app: problem solved. I had the app for a good while, and this was a fairly recent bug.

[ICS] Maps closes automatically after few seconds

Hi there,
I installed stock ICS (rooted) on my TF101. Now whenever I open Maps, it will close after a few moments. No FC, no message, just disappears as if I had clicked on the "Home" button - but when I restart Maps, the previous state is gone.
Anyone have any ideas why this happens and more importantly how to fix it?
TIA
SoWhy
Try clearing data for Map app
Sorry, I forgot to specify that I tried that already - I usually do when I have problems
I am using the brut version.. and in there is a flashable zip that has a script in it that goes through and clears out junk..
Same thing for me on ICS upgrade.had maps FC.. used this..right as rain now..

Start on last post and workback for a link..

I changed the ROM to Revolver 4.0 Beta and it seems to work now. Still, very strange...
I was experiencing this problem too. A similar thing was happening with Gmail. Completely stock, unrooted ICS TF101.
I found a bandaid for both but I am not sure which of the steps I took are actually helpful. Anyway:
1. Cleared data and cache in both apps.
2a. For Gmail, I turned off pre-fetch attachments while on WiFi AND the labs setting that enables message indexing.
2b. For Maps, I turned on the labs setting to pre-cache areas and then cached the entirety of Los Angeles (which is where I live).
3. Reboot.
The apps still crash a few seconds after opening occasionally but a reboot gets things back to normal for a day or so. Hopefully the coming ICS patch fixes these issues because it was making both Gmail and Maps basically unusable.
On my TF, I fixed the maps closing thing by enabling "Force hardware acceleration" in the developer settings (System settings, not map settings).
But knowing how ICS behaves, it may only work for me. I am starting to suspect that every person here at the forums may have a different ICS version that fails at different points, just to have us entertained until asus finishes the real ICS update. It may even be a sociological experiment, aiming to understand how new superstitions are made.
I too had this problem with the maps FC'ing. For me, it looked like it had more to do with GPS status. It seemed like if maps couldn't get an immediate lock on the location, it would FC. I fixed this problem by installing a GPS keep-alive app. Note that if you keep the keep-alive app on all the time, it will really do a number on your battery. Use it only when you need it.

Phone Automatically Reboots (Data Usage Unexpectedly Stops Working)

Hey Guys.
Been having problems with my Z5 E6653 (5.1.1, Build: 32.0A.6.200) Lately unsure exactly what caused it.
The device is NOT rooted and using stock firmwares.
The device will self reboot randomly at times, however it appears I can almost guarantee it will reboot faster and is reproducible by enabling and disabling the mobile data and when being used as a hotspot. The 'Data Usage' tab under 'Settings' does not work it goes to open then force closes and says it stopped working.
Anyone have any ideas? You guys tell me where to get the logs from and I will post them here
One last thing.. In before someone says "Factory Reset" I know it will fix this issue as it did in the past however I am looking for solutions to fixing this without resorting to a factory reset if possible. I don't have internet at my house I rely mobile data and hotspots.
Stuff you guys probably want to know about.
Some stock apps are disabled "Google Hangouts, Movie Creator, File Commander" (I don't use these at all and until locked bootloader root is available they will be disabled until deleted with TB. I have disabled notifications for some downloaded apps namely games like Cut the Rope and so to remove silly toast and push ads.

I had something similar happen in LP, I suspect related to disabling some of the bloat. From your list I disabled all save hangouts, try to reenable them all then only disable one by one. Can't you upgrade to MM though, it appears this has been solved.

Yea I tried that didn't work. Ended up factory reset. Well MM isn't out on the Telstra operator. Been waiting for it though read a lot about bugs so I'll hold off until the kinks are worked out. Cheers though.
Not sure I agree that's it's been fixed - I'm on stock MM and have a random reboot at least once a week - normally when playing audio (PowerAmp) when connected over Bluetooth in the car.
