Could you explain what you did to cause this? I really hope you were messing with things other than what most people have done, otherwise, this could be a real problem for the rest of us.

If you did brick there is a thred in the dev's that can and will show you how to unbrick and you can shop and decide on witch Rom you won't to go with look at it this way you have the best of both worlds good luck

Had an issue today similar to yours, unlocked the bootloader today and kept the stock rom. Tonight I started deleting the bloatware, mainly using root explorer, no issues really. Used titanium backup to "force remove by exploit" I think its called. Did that and phone went black, tried powering back on, pulled battery etc, nada.
Ended up plugging device to usb charger and booted into bootloader, rebooted from there and its fine.

I ran into this tonight. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198585
Short story -- Clockwork Recovery is bugged and won't charge the phone. Your battery level is too low to power on, so you need to use another method to get some power into it.
I did this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15034469/tmp/recovery_fail.jpg
And yeah it's a lame problem.

Ahh, so this is not really a bricked phone, but a case of CWM dead battery! Good to know, as its an "easy" fix then. I was afraid that the phone, simply S-off and perm rooted, had somehow crashed permanently.
Matt

Straight Bricked
For me its not the battery, when tmobile sent me a new sensation i used my old battery, sdcard and sim and the battery still had around a 75% charge. I cant boot from usb i cant do anything. Its completely dead.

As for what i did?
I had been flashing multiple roms and kernels for 2 weeks. Overclocking, undervloting bla bla. No issues a wipe and flash couldnt take care of. I think i did a wipe and flash of a new rom and thats it. Dead. Wish i could remember exactly what it was. I guess im gonna mail it back since i have a new one and probably get charged full retail if they see its s-off and root.

Ahh..So it wasnt the silly CWM ordeal then. That sucks!
Try to pinpoint what you were doing right before this happened. Were you wiping something? (what were you wiping) Were you flashing a ROM? (What were to flashing)
Try to provide more details, as I am sure some of the devs here will be looking to jump all over it shortly.
EDIT: Were to making sure to check that the ROM you were flashing was meant for your version of the phone as well as the files not corrupted? I know it sounds silly, but its something to rule out.
Matt

happened to me too on two batteries. I believe that it is due to overclocking the cpu. because the battery stats are calibrated for a slower CPU speed, it drains it past the failsafe point to pure failure. CWM will recognize CPU for the given ROM. i flashed back to S-ON and regular RUU 1.29 and charging my batteries again for the correct CPU + battery stats. wish me best of luck

Wow, am i that stupid
Not positive but i think i figured out what i did. Something really stupid.
I think i flashed: [Desire] InsertCoin CM7/STOCK 1.1.0
So am i fully bricked?
Gotta put the phone in the mail tomorrow.
Do you think they will see that its s-off or if its (truly) bricked can they not?

They'll know....

actually... having worked in a few cell phone repair / refurbish facilities... i can tell you that they won't even look. they just plug the phone up to their bench and it overides everything and does a fresh flash. from there they just replace plastics to make it look like a brand new phone. if they are unable to flash it at the bench, they replace internals. so relax... no one will know or care what you did to it. these places get thousands of phones a day. and each tech at the bench has a quota to get through.

Thanks for your feedback guys. Shipping it off now...
Still cant believe it. Still have my n1 from launch day and it took everything i could throw at it. Still kicking like a beast. **** my g1 is still running cm4 i think lol.

....i think? Running bamf ginger remix and the latest OTA radio not the leaks. I fixed my permissions and noticed my 4g kept going in and out. The phone got warm so i rebooted and got the splash screen, then it hung and rebooted two more times before booting normal. I literally freaked out for a second. Phone seems ok now. Should i be worried? What could cause this?

Sounds like the radio to me. That's the thing that will suck up power the worst if it can't get it's crap together finding a signal, even to the point of heating that thing up. Mine starts cooking if I tether it and watch movies on it. Never had boot loops though, and I use the 1.70 radio for weeks.

I don't really know what to describe the "brick situation" we were having back in the day with the first leaked gingerbread as. Technically, it's not REALLY a brick because many of them could be fixed. It was more of a boot-loop issue. That whole situation muddied the waters of what defines a brick, but before that I always understood a brick to be a completely useless device beyond any help. Whether it could be powered on to view the hboot S-on or S-off state, I don't know because thankfully I've never had that problem.
There's always the option of electrocuting it until it won't power on though. Take an electronic lighter, remover the piezo igniter, and use that to zap sensitive parts of it's guts until it never worked again. That's like a few thousand volts. Not much inside there will survive that for long. (Yes, I really do sit around thinking about how to destroying things in undetectable ways.)
it's funny because everytime i hear about someone getting insurance for their cell phone i think "lol.. sucker!" but broke 2 phones so far and had to "craigslist" like crazy to find replacements at decent prices.

When the boot loop of death thing happened people were still able to get into hboot. So from there you would just flash an RUU and get back to s-on. If it truly is the same issue people were having the phone will be s-on after the RUU, but it will still just bootloop. If you are using the patched hboot I don't know if you would be able go get back because I don't know if fastboot was functioning.

The phone was never rooted it's 100% factory. I have no idea what to do. I did search but none of the answers were on point.
Thank you in advance!
Is there an option under the hboot menu to restore the phone to factory defaults?
If so, this would wipe out everything on your phone, but it may start booting again.
Having subjected the hardware to an unfortunate water incident puts the hardware into an unpredictable and unknowable state. The best we can do is guess at this point. T-Mobile is unlikely to RMA it, sadly, as they have water detector stickers on the phone.
It sucks being in this predicament, I know. I wish you the best of luck!
Take the battery out and put everything in a Noel of rice for at leather 48 hours to completely dry the phone. The worst thing you can do is turn on a phone once it has gotten wet. Dry it before trying anything else, this is very important!

Actually that's what I'm planning to do. I would like to do it as soon as I possible actually. The phone has been soaking in rice for about a day and half I think it's dry enough, I think it just needs the stock file for the bootloader. I also wouldn't know how to load it up from there.

ah ok, did you try booting it up, is it still bootlooping?
also, might you wanna try and get S-OFF first? it would give you more freedom, and if you flash one of the factory ROM files with S-ON, you might get to where S-OFF wouldn't be possible anymore, with what we know at this moment.
or if you don't care about S-OFF, you could check this out and download the 1.55.531.3 ROM file... and follow the directions for flashing it.....

Well yeah, it may or not work, depending on the state your device is in..... but could be worth a try?
Basically, go to Revolutionary.io, download the program, and run it while your phone is trying to boot up.
If it doesn't work, I think you'll have to try and flash a higher stock ROM version thru the bootloader.
Also it could be worth noting, there was guy around who said he knew the fix for water-damaged phones.... it had something to do with opening it up and scraping off some corrosion somewhere...? Not sure if this would apply to you or not. And in any case, it can't hurt trying to restore the device software-wise.
boot into recovery and run it
I followed the instruction for the this link that yogi2010 provided me and the phone did update but still no progress, the phone is still under boot loop even after it updated.

I think I just hard bricked my Atrix 2

HI Guys,
So I just tried to flash the Supercharged v7 rom from the ICS leak and now my phone wont turn on. When I have the battery in it heats up a lot, so I think it's trying to turn on.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks
Little more info please.
Were you on the ICS leak before you tried to flash it? Or GB?
Also any LED lights on?
Have you tried a different battery? Will it boot into fastboot? Hold both voume buttons down while it's off and then press and hold the power button.
And for future reference you should have posted this on SC7's thread as it involves the ROM. Keeps the forum a little tidier.

Ok, sounds like a hardbrick, however, the only thing I would try is to get your hands on another battery and see if it boots that way. Possibly borrow one from an AT&T store?
If it doesn't boot with a new battery it's probably an expensive paperweight now.
How did you flash it? With our new recovery? You didn't use the bootstrapper APK did you?

I used the new recovery. I will bring it to an AT&T store and try a new battery.
You sure you used boot menu? AND did you try to "flash" it? Or did you do a system restore....
Also did the phone die in the middle of the flash? Or would it not reboot?
also just hard bricked.......

Yeah this is the same brick many of us got. the battery will get hot, don't know why, but take it out or it is toast along with the phone, many people had that so you may need a new one. your best bet to fix is to buy a cheap broken phone on ebay with a working main board, so basically you are buying a main board but cheaper because people don't realize the phone i worth anything when the screen is shattered and the camera is shot. then you can pop the new board in your old phone and you are good to go.

Same here!!!

Help (if possible)! think my phone is done :(

This is going to be long!
If anyone has insight to this would be appreciated
Precursor: I am on CM9 nightly (7-27-12) with 6.0.1.0 non touch recovery (NS4G)
So last night I go to open my opera web browser and it would flash like it would open and instant close (no error message). I say OK thats weird and decide to reboot. Upon rebooted I am greeted with never ending amount of FC's from every app and service imaginable. I again say OK EXTREMELY weird and decide its time to restore my backup from yesterday.
I reboot in recovery and what do I get greeted with? Unable to mount /sdcard! Long story short after scouring google for about an hour I find that if I do a fastboot oem lock/unlock I should get back up and running. Thankfully that works and I install the newest 7/31 CM9 nightly.
I wake up today without my phone alarm going off when it should. Weird huh? I go to open the clock and get a FC from the clock application. Reboot and it works just fine. OK weird again.
Go to work and leave my phone on the counter to help a customer. I come back to the desk and my phone is in recovery mode? Uhhh what? I reboot the phone and it says "encryption unsuccessful" and the phone needs to wipe data and reboot to continue use...
I decide WTF why not, not like I can use it. At this point I'm worried though. The phone reboots to recovery and I guess does a data wipe (takes 3-5 mins) and reboots. Now I am stuck on the CM9 bootscreen and won't go past.
I have some ideas as to get the phone (hopefully) back up and running. Just curious what this sounds like to anyone more knowledgeable then me (especially the part where it tried to encrypt my phone without me touching it!)
Any thoughts or help is appreciated!
Edit: I tried copying files to sdcard from recovery using mount usb storage. The files copy over and as soon as I leave the mount menu and go to install the zip files WHICH I SAW ON THE SDCARD they ARE NOT THERE anymore.
Edit2: It still lets me install the CM9 7/31 nightly which I had saved on the phone yesterday. Even after wiping everything and reinstalling the ROM I can't get past the CM9 bootscreen
Edit3: Tried fastboot, odin, nothing works. Even after odin I still get the CM9 boot screen. Pretty sure something is messed up to the point of I need a new phone. FML!
YESS!!!
YES I WANT ATTENTION.
I Have exactly the same. Mother of smartphones Somebody help us!
Its the internal Memory thats messed up yes, But Please somebody fix this Bullcrap. We don't have the knowledge but I will gladly donate to you who fixes it!
I just bought a brand new screen for my phone and I don't freaking want to buy a new Phone At the moment, So if you find a way to help us then let us know since that could be lifesaving right now.
Pretty sure I've given up. Everything I've tried has failed... looks like it might be gnex time.

Well nothing officially works
The samsung simple dl tool just says "error" when I hit "start download" nearly immediately. Now I have no recovery or anything. Going to sprint right after I get out of work to get a gnex

I HAD THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM
Temporary solution: heat the phone up with a hair blow dryer. get it hot but not so hot that it melts things. it will be able to boot up and work. I used this method so i could copy my sd card to my computer and wipe everything off
Permanent solution: turn your phone in for repair. there is no remedy to fixing this. apparently the circuit board or chip is bad and you can't fix it.
Luckily I had best buy black tie protection and I am waiting on my new replacement phone.

I work in a computer repair shop and going by that solution...sounds like a problem I may be able to repair using a similar method as some of the board-level repairs I do pretty often...anyone want to send me a dead lab rat? Lol

You can have mine lol x) And Yep i fix computers for friends and so on their friends and this sounds like Nvidia was behind the chip... xD
It wouldn't matter who actually makes a chip if the heating it up is a temporary fix. That is a OEM issue. Basically think xbox360 rrod with the warped boards the solder melting/failing and the chips get loose etc.
Unless heating up failed flash storage temporarily makes it work. Which I doubt is the case but don't actually know. Brings back memories of putting failing HDD drives in the freezer though.
Well this is my official goodbye to the Nexus S forums (not like anyone cares haha). Just got my shiny new Galaxy Nexus. Have a great night everyone and happy modding!

Unfortunately that is good only if software screwed up your phone. In my case and I'm sure others when it is hardware failure, that won't work :\

Battery died while flashing Franco Kernel, phone wont power on HELP!

So i have been having a battery issue where my phone reads 20% and than dies. It will last the whole day but will die before i know its going to. To try and fix this problem i thought it might be kernel related, Im on a JB rom and was flashing Franco kernel from his app. I finished dwl and i was prompted with the "YES lets do this" to reboot the phone. Once i hit it my phone shut off. I'm like 90% sure it was due to my battery actually being dead. I've had it plugged in for 20 mins with no luck of anything happening when i hit power on or try getting into recovery. At one point it viberated and showed that I have zero battery but that was it. I can't get the thing to do anything. I also only have a MAC computer. PLEASE HELP! I've rooted and flashed a hundred phones and never ran into my phone not powering up at all. Did i brick it?
Anyone that could help please!
I can't think of anything short of getting another battery to see if thats the issue or finding a way to get some juice into the one you have. There was a trick somewhere in the rezound forum to get some charge to dead batteries that wouldn't charge due to an issue with clockwork mod. You should search for those threads and see if it helps.

Yeah i read something about ripping the power cord apart and moving wires etc. . I'm not to keen on doing that myself. **** if its not charing i guess the only thing i can do is go to verizon (i have warranty) but will they be able to tell im rooted?

No they will not, i had to get mine replaced for a charging issue Friday and i was rooted, custom everything. As long as your phone wont charge they wont be able to tell.
Just went in no go. I did indeed BRICK my phone from running a verizon gs3 with franco milestone 5. Everyone beware! Although it was my fault, If people have ran with kernel on the regular these past couple years, It was instinct. Verizon said i'd have to send my phone in and get a new one in two days

Lol Did they give you a temp phone?
Just to throw it out there have you tried getting into download mode? I had a similar problem with my razr where the battery died while flashing and it was bricked. I had to make a factory cable (allows you to flash in download mode without battery power). With this phone though I've noticed that if you leave the cable in and pull the battery while in download mode it will stay on which seems like it's doing what my factory cable did. It's volume down/power/home to get in to download see if you can do this with the phone plugged in.
EDIT: maybe I misread but if the firmware didn't install properly you can be missing even the software required to charge the battery. This means you can't charge up the phone until you flash some firmware in Odin via download mode, which you may be able to do with only the cable attached (direct power to the phone in dl mode and bypassing the dead batter).

Research then flash, dont flash then research! i need to put this in my sig.....
Yeah but I had to go to two vzw stores to only end up going to the third and having someone i knew that worked there replace the phone. But since im on a company plan, and used someone else upgrade for this to keep unlimited data, They said there 75% sure i'll have lost my unlimited data for whatever reason.

Fight them, if you had unlimited data they can't take your plan away. Fight the living hell out of them. You will win.
