[WiP][PROJECT]ROM MANAGER for G3 + RECOVERY - Galaxy 3 Android Development

Hey Guys,
We all know that there is very little chance that we are going to get G3 support for ROM Manager. So as we have been doing from a long time, lets take that task in our own hands
We shall create a team, and make a ROM Manager for G3 supporting most of the Custom ROM's and Kernel's.
What all we need:
Recovery - I will provide the recovery from G3MOD, separately, so that everyone can install even with Fugumod.
App Developers - Please Post in the thread if you are interested.
Server - If anyone can provide us with a server with good storage and bandwidth? OTA for all ROM's and Kernels can be included in the software.
Anyone Else who has any idea, and wants to help in this project is welcome
Advantages of this Project:
1) Odin flashing will no longer be required.
2) ROM's and their Updates can be provided from the Server directly.
3) You can try any new ROM, without loosing data from your previous ROM.
Note to ROM Developers:
1) You will need to provide your ROM's as System.img files
2) Those interested in providing your ROM's using this ROM Manager, please let us know.
Thanks To:
Koush for the superb recovery and ROM Manager.

Functions We Can Have for the ROM Manager + Recovery:
1) Update Recovery - App
2) List of ROM's with Features. - App
3) List of Kernel's with Features. - App
4) OTA Updates for all ROM's and Kernel's - App
5) Switching ROM's - CWM
6) Backup Data - CWM
7) Restore Data - CWM
8) Backup Current ROM - CWM
9) Reboot to Recovery - App

we just need enough support from everyone and this thing can be done

Coding the UI like in the famous ROM Managee shouldn't be hard 'cause it's basically an Options-Menu. The question is what's behind that. If we just need to fire Linux Shell Commands it shouldn't be hard - i set up an Script Executer for my first app allready.

Well, we already have the source for ROM manager, by koush...
https://github.com/ClockworkMod
So i dont think it will be very difficult to do it...
We just need as many app developers possible, so that we can have the project up and running fast
I am trying to mod the recovery in a better way, so switching between ROM's via CWM is faster and also there is no loss of data

Great Work!!
R u also working on a kernel which can support CM7 on multiboot?
Coz currently we have only 2 kernels for CM7, one by marcel himself and the other by apollo but in both the kernels music experience is very bad due to noise. Now, since marcel and apollo are very less active on XDA due to may be they get very less time from their work, there is only one option left and that is you
I really want to keep CM7 on my mobile but can do that with dual or multiboot only as it is not yet complete.
I hope this project will give life to G3 forum.

I don't find any Java Source for the ROM Manager... somehow he posted only the /res folder which contains .xml (layouts, etc...) and drawables (images).

Sure we can, but to be honest... i have no clue how it works in the background.

Good Start Man!
I will look into the code, and get back to you.
I am a beginer for Anroid, I may need more help from you.
Siva.

Well this really is my kind of game
Since I already have the code to download files from a server this shouldn't be that hard.
I'll look into the source later on.
Would really like to be part of this

Great initiative

Hi dharam
I want to get in.
I can help as far as it is C code.

I checked the github repo, but all you can find are the resources needed for the layout and such. So we COULD use that, but that would mean we have to write all the underlying Java code by ourselves..

[WiP][Rebooted] G3RM, ROM Manager + Recovery [Google Form for uploading added]

Introduction
Hello everyone,
We all know there's no official support for our G3 in the ROM Manager, which is a sad thing.
But since Team G3MOD is a team with lots of developers we decided to make one by ourself!
Using the G3RM (G3 ROM Manager) app you will be able to flash Custom ROMs and Kernels on your phone directly.
What do we need?
So the site we used to use is been taken offline by the owner and we never heard anything about him.
However, Dympy now has his own server and has offered to put the minor amount of files needed by the app on there.
All ROMs and Kernels will be downloaded and then uploaded to our 40GB Min.us account, so we don't have to worry about bandwidth, storage and because Min.us has direct link options.
Now all we need is you. Or at least the content you developers make.
We made a simple Google Docs Form so you can upload the ROMs and Kernels.
At the end of a period of time, Dympy will download and upload EVERY item onto the Min.Us account and edit the xml file being hosted on the RA-mod server.
The app shall consist of a way to quickly flash CWM on your phone, so you can even use it while still on stock.
This part is made possible thanks to Cdesai.
But why do we need it?
1) No more need of ODIN or a PC to flash ROMs and Kernels
2) ROM's and their Updates can be provided from the Server directly.
3) You can try any new ROM, without loosing data from your previous ROM.
Note to ROM Developers:
1) You will need to provide your ROM's as System.img files or update.zip files with the needed prerequisites in your description.
2) Those interested in providing your ROM's using this ROM Manager, please let us know.
App Info
The app shall have a simple UI so every user should be able to use the G3 ROM Manager.
It shall consist of 3 major parts:
1) ROMs
2) Kernels
3) CWM
ROMs
First of all you shall be asked what kind of ROM you would like based on Android version (so CM7.1, CM6.2, 2.2, 2.3, etc).
When you've picked one of those options you shall be redirected to a list containing all available ROMs for the chosen version of android.
When you pick a ROM you like, a pop-up shall come up, giving you extra information (description) and the download button which shall return a list with all available versions.
The app shall then download the ROM and place it in the location the user gives (E.G. user downloads Kyrillos ROM, the user has to save the ROM in the Kyrillos folder by picking that folder in another pop-up).
Kernels
Basically the same as ROM's
Once again you have to pick an Android version (so CM7.1, CM6.2, Hybrid, etc).
And then if you've picked, a list shall be shown with all Kernels matching the chosen android version
When you pick a Kernel you like, a pop-up shall come up, giving you extra information (description) and the download button which shall return a list with all available versions.
The app shall then download the Kernel as update.zip to the root of the SD-Card, or as a zImage file (ooh, secret stuff..)
Cdesai said he has found a way of flashing zImage files, which should be tremendous. We're still testing out various methods so this could take a while.
CWM
This option shall just have the basics for now.
It shall consist of an option to install CWM so you can flash other Kernels without the use of a PC.
It shall also containt various reboot options, such as "reboot into recovery", "reboot in download mode" and just plain simple "reboot".
This way, even if you have stock ROM, you still have some sort of extended powermenu.
I shall look into other options we could implement.
Downloads?
None yet, the app is being rebooted and hopefully the first download will soon be available.
Changelog
- None yet.
Reserved for downloads of previous versions and/or links to source code.
Media
None yet, but this is where I shall post sneakpeeks of the new UI or the app.
Credits
Cdesai - for finding a way to add CWM to our phones without the need of a PC.
Koush - for the original ROM Manager
abhijeet.pathak - for making the needed database files
Hmm nice!
is it coming this weekend?
Certainly!
Just thought of a good way of versioning so the app can make a notification when a newer version is available, so going to implement that one and then release (;
Dympy.
EDIT:
Implemented and working, going to convert the code to work with the ROMs, do one final test round and upload (;
Dympy
Good Luck with this project.....so excited for the app
Is there also a Option for nandroid Backup, nandroid restore? IT would be epic if i could say, that i want to do a nandroid Backup and a automatically Reboot After that.
G3Mod team FTW!!!!
Waiting eagerly for this ^_^
Well guess what I'm uploading right now..

It's always fun to find certain things not working after uploading >.>
I'm going to try and fix this before sharing URL.

EDIT:
Nvm, got it back working
Doing final test round...
lol i have read several posts and i know the url. Nice job dympy, thank you for your hard work!
And the site is online!
http://g3mod.com/g3rm/index.php
Developers, please make an account and start adding content so this site shall grow (;
congrats! when will you upload the app?
in the site under kernel section you have uploaded CM kernel in froyo section.
Oops, I shall fix it (;
Dympy.
why cant register without website?
sorry i just get that register is for devs only
Guys, later this day I shall probably switch to another server and implement the update method so you won't have to use external sites.
I'll also make some minor fixes.

Trying to port kernel 3.0 for i9003, please help

Hello,
I have been porting kernel 3.0 to i9003 since last month.
Now, platform specific codes and most of the drivers are ported.
Today, I am able to finish the kernel build with minor warnings.
but I have problems customizing the init scrits to be used with the kernel.
Any help from more experience devs would be appreciated
Current status:
- Platform specific code and all drivers except battery are ported.
- The kernel is built successfully
- trying to pack it into normalboot.img
I can release the source now due to its size. ( asking a guy at github to increase my storage space). But will do asap.
Sorry to post in the wrong forum but I dont have permission to post in the dev forum.

sachin sharma, can you explain your procedure during your port? I'll compare with mine to see if we do the same thing.
After checking the boot script, I don't think we can just do a drop-in replacement. I think modifying the init script is needed (and i'm working on it). Also, There are some changes in the kernel which can cause problem with the ported code. I'm thinking about droping RFS and J4FS support in the new kernel (and probably abandon all samsung code).

all we need is config file in /arch/arm/config for kernel 3.0 for our devices
all we have now is config file for kernel 2.6.7 thats wats preventing our devices to boot
i followed same procedure mentiond in that blog after that i used zoom config file edit it at some places wer i thought shud be a change like device name to galaxy sl etc
renamed it latona_galaxy_sl
even then no benefit but i havn't givn hope m still trying!!!!
main problem is that we dont know how to configurate config file as "make config" command gives a hell lot of options!!!!

I have gone far more than that . All latona specific codes are ported not only the defconfig file. Most drivers (LCD, power switch, camera, etc.) are also ported. I'm now modifying the init script to match what the kernel have now. Hopefully it will boot.

u mentiond that u r getting errors while compiling right?
that means ur deconfig file is still not correct
all the codes needs to be changed according to "kernel 3.0"
not by porting codes from other kernels or previous kernels
n lastly all drivers are already given in the source code thers nothing to change in it except that u just have to compile!!!!!!

Yeah. The nice thing about Paranoid is it is based on CM10, so once CM has everything fixed, PA will most likely have everything fixed. It takes a long time to download the repo. Glad I have 15Mbps Internet, though this makes me wish it was even faster.

The first: thank you for posting here. You have been one of the few users, that understands the purpose of this thread.
In the repositories there are many pending changes. For this reason, there is no valid rom with date "March 7th", is smarter wait a few days to install the rom.
We do not wish to delay the changes, but these must be properly tested. When these changes can be considered validated, will be communicated to all users.
Thank you.

Maybe we should start a thread for specifically for reporting bugs in co10 builds. That way it keeps the porting thread cleaner. Maybe in the orignial post for it, put an outline of how to report bugs, like build name/date, issue(s) reporting, logcat attachment /pastbin, etc.

4) WITHOUT REBOOT, install Note 3 UVUDNF1 Tweaked 3.0
5) WITHOUT REBOOT, install the fix and reboot.
KERNEL
After a lot of tries, this is the best working for me performance/battery. It is ColonelX kernel. Link to original post. Thanks a lot to @itsmikeramsay for this great job. Please press Thank button there.
Download link.
Installation:
0) Download file to sdcard.
1) Make a nandroid backup.
2) install the file with CWM Recovery and reboot
Bugs
- Some users have reported an issue when touching screen, hardware button's lights switch on.
I made a bash script with almost all my kernel settings. Only have to unzip the file, paste it in /system/etc/init.d change permission to 777 and reboot.
FILE
Update 4/8/14: new kernel settings for smartmax. Very battery friendly with low uv. Find file attached below.
CHECK BEFORE COPYING THE UV TABLE IN THE FILE AND CHANGE IT TO YOUR NEEDS. I am not responsible form what happens if your do not check it
This works too

Outstanding find, sir, and even better that this combined rom and kernel work for your device.
Might I ask, though, why you are posting links to the works of others, and with a persistent request for donations in both your signature line and profile?
These two outstanding gentlemen, @dwitherell and @itsmikeramsay have done an incredible amount of work to get this rom finely tuned to the point of excellence. I believe that solely them, and none other, should benefit from their hard work.
Of course, this is only my opinion, and I will leave the judgment as to what is best in their good hands.
Many thanks for pointing out that these excellent devs' work can be used by many.

Thanks for your opinion. I changed my signature. I just want what you point at the end of your post. Let other know this is if not best, one of the best mix rom+kernel, and it is what really cares, isnt it?

Of course, in the large arc of general truths, the works of others being shared by many is in the finest spirit of these forums.
As to the removal of the donation link in your signature line and profile, I believe that was an honorable thing to have done.
How works are disseminated, and the means by which said development is placed into the hands of others does matter.
Leading with a general statement that something works for you and linking to that work is excellent. Your thread would be extremely helpful if it'd had been only that.
The significance is in the execution, not the intention.
If excellent work is distributed to others, then it is my humble opinion that the power of doing this resides solely in the hands of the developers, and none other.
I hope this clarifies.

[KERNEL] [MTD] [TW/CM9/CM11] [DEV] Watson Kernel (MTD support on Gingerbread!)

Hello guys,
This is a project I was working on for a kernel for our SGY.
I made it with a few things in mind:
>Improve it's performance
>Be universally compatible (after I nearly given up on trying to get a snappier CM11 and after the need for a snappier SGY, I decided to go back to GB. However, BML is terrible, and it is annoying to come back to. I decided to build a MTD kernel for Gingerbread then, and it works!)
>Experiment and upgrade as much as I can (thanks @robcore!!!!)
But since I lost my device, I cannot continue developing it. I am then releasing the source code (sorry, no flashable stuff, I deleted it long ago ) for any of you to continue(?) my work if your heart so desires.
If I ever get myself another SGY (or another BCM21553 device), I will gladly continue development (and support whoever does it too), but before I lose all my data and the kernel code alongside it, I am making it available.
This kernel features:
-OC up to 1040MHz (It's questionable even today if the bcm21553 OCs really work, but I tried hacking a way that works very similarly to MarocOS's one, maybe even better. Be warned though, the source around it is messy)
-GPU hacks for performance (Again, even I don't know if they do work, probably the values are just there to be seen, I'm not sure. I do know though that increasing the CPU speed will much likely increase the speed of V3D too)
-DVFS disabled (I found out DVFS is mostly the culpirit in the "832MHz crisis" where the kernel would forcefully scale itself to 832MHz, so I eliminated any reference to it in kernel code. Apparently DVFS on the processor is only available under the bcm21553 governor, but it is present on the other drivers as well. The idea for disabling DVFS came from my friend @robcore)
-A few additional governors and a buggy interactive governor (which is the default xd)
-MTD support for Gingerbread (Thanks Samsung Epic 4G! Although it only works on TouchWiz (I tried it with SL v2 and v2.1 and it works, but under NougatME(CM7) I got no success and loads of segfaults), it works ALMOST perfectly. See bugs for details )
-Some scraped source code from Samsung's FSR I found on the internet (barely compilable, though)
Bugs:
>Gingerbread version:
-IMEI won't appear in the Status screen, I also faced problems with non-working radio for calls. Data works just fine, but calling and receiving calls is unavailable. I believe it is EFS-related. My suggestion is backing up the EFS partition's file structure, then converting it to MTD, then restoring the backup.
-TWRP will crash and panic when exiting, a workaround is force rebooting
>ICS version:
-TWRP will crash and panic when exiting (I believe fixing it here will fix the bug above too)
>KitKat version:
-Flashing images fail randomly, you may also be unable to reboot normally if you do so. I tried addressing this but I couldn't get anywhere.
DOWNLOAD THE SOURCE: Here!
Thanks to:
@robcore - his development on the Snapdragon S4 breathes life on my dev soul!
@zman0900 - I saw his thread on an MTD TW kernel for the Samsung Epic 4G, which led me to believe MTD on GB is possible.
nice kernel
It sound nice. I'm a newbie developer, I'm building a kernel to fix audio bug on cm9, hope it work. And thank you for the source

Have you gathered enough info on it? I would like to fix it too, but I couldn't get any info on whether if the audio bug is a kernel-side issue or an OS -side issue.
Best of luck for you

I don't sure so I decided to build a kernel from your source and another cm9 version from Mohamad.Afaneh's source and I'll merge the audio on both of them for the best think to fix the bug.Thank you .

To make it, you have to sync the cm9 source code then add the files from his github to your localmanifest. This thing is not in anyway related to that except the MTD. This one is a kernel-compile only source
Oh man, i give up. I can't build a kernel from source, but i can modify a kernel.
Can someone give me the zimage for ics Please....
