Titanium Backup on Optimus V and restore on Moto Triumph? - Motorola Triumph

I upgraded from my Virgin Mobile Optimus V to the new Moto Triumph. I used Titanium Backup to backup the Optimus V into the TitaniumBackup directory on my SD card. All the apps and their data is backed up in that directory.
When trying to restore apps to my Triumph I did the following. I copied the TitaniumBackup directory to the same root location on my new SD card, installed Titanium Backup on the Triumph and tried to do a restore using several of the commands in the batch menu. All of the commands act like they are doing a restore, but say they are complete immediately without accomplishing anything.
Both phones were obviously rooted for TiBU and Settings -> Applications -> Unknown Sources was enabled. The Optimus has Android 2.2.1 I think and the Triumph has 2.2.2.
Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Well mine worked perfect, I just copied the Titanium Backup folder from my sd and pasted to my other sd card. And i restored all of my angry birds games on the triumph. I also came from an optimus v to the triumph. Hope you get it to work.

Same here, I just copied it to my new SD card, and restored it on the MT

Did you reboot your phone after you clicked unknown sources? I know it sounds silly, but I had to do that myself. Try again after that. Should work. Also ensure that you really are rooted first, and that you've set superuser permissions to TB.
Other than that, I haven't a clue, as the beauty of TB is that you can completely wipe your phone, install a custom ROM, and still restore your apps. In turn, the same holds true then for when you switch phones. I didn't have to transfer anything from my old sd card, just installed TB to access all my apps from before. TB also offers TB Media Sync to transfer files like your pics and music from one phone to another.
Also, are you using gingerbreak or an actual custom recovery img? Gingerbreak didn't work for me like it should. There are custom recovery img's now. I can't post links but a quick google search should get you there. TJStyle and isaacj87 both have custom recovery img's. I'm using TJstyle's and it works great. isaacj87 is close to a CM7 release also, just waiting on Motorola to release the kernel source code. I'll most likely switch to his CWM when he finishes that build.
Hope that helps.

[Q] App backup

So, the best way to backup apps before installing the Froyo update to a previously non-rooted Mesmerize?
App-Brain? I understand that won't necessarily save any data associated with the apps...
I used Titantium for my phone which was running Superclean ROM, with the Voodoo kernel, but now my wife (who didn't want me playing with her phone previously) wants to update to Froyo...
titanium is the best way to do it and preserve the user data.
however, if she really doesn't want her phone rooted (even though the froyo update will void the warranty, and is pre-rooted anyway ) you're stuck using appbrain.
i personally used titanium to back up all my apps and system data, and it worked great.

I used titanium backup, the free version will suffice for backups. You will have to make the backups on your phone, then reinstall Titanium Backup once you boot into froyo, in order to restore your backups again.

+1 I would get the premium mostly cause you will always use this app. Also, I have a spare sd card, and I make a mirror of the internal sd by just select all> copy> paste into external sd card. Then you have a mirror of what is on the internal card.
I used My Backup when I rooted my phone, saved it to sd, and it worked quite nice. Saved all my messages and was easy to restore. Had the option of saving data and app or just one or the other.

Coming from an overly hacked Samsung Vibrant - how to transfer apks?

Just got my Sensation and it is a very solid device; certainly much more solid than the Vibrant in respect to the hardware.
If the hTC is not rooted then how in the world can I restore all my apps that I have backed up via Titanium Backup? If its difficult than waiting until a root for the Sensation might make more sense and I'll keep using the Vibrant.
Thanks!

We have yo wait as we cannot even get temproot. I have all my backups in TB also but what's important to me is to freeze the bloatware..its killing the battery. If you can't wait just use the Vibrant for now till the bootloaderi is ulocked. I'm doing that with my MT4G but using the sensation 90% of the time. It sucks but we just have to wait it out

As I thought but thanks for the advice regardless.
I utilized MyBackup Pro which was installed on my Nexus One (rooted) to make a backup of all of my streaming applications. The .apk files are stored in your SD card under Rerware I believe.
Install the same application on your Sensation and make a test backup of a single application. Just so that it can create the proper folder directories.
You will essentially move the backup data from the SD card on your old phone to your new one and then perform a restore. This should work for most apps. Excluding the ones that need root access.
I saved my TB & system/app to my pc then copied it over to a folder on my Sensation and installed them from there.

Many thanks for this suggested method. Going to try this tonight
I came from the Vibrant also - MyBackup did save all of the apk's and system data to the Rerware folder on the external SD of the Vibrant. I put the SD from the Vibrrant into the Sensation and it did restore all of the apk's - NOT the data as the Sensation does not have root.
The only data I was able to restore was the call logs, sms & mms messages....
I also have a backup made in Titanium Pro, but it will not run on the Sensation without root. I'd love to have a way to even be able to restore saved apk's from Titanium.....

[Q] Extreme noob very frustrated, please help.

So before I go into detail, I would like to apologize in advance if this question/problem is some where on this site. I have looked all over and I couldn't find anything or I just missed it, also if I'm posting in the wrong section.
A couple days ago I bought a Tmobile Mytouch 4g that was rooted and running 2.3.4. I have rooted a few phones before so I figured getting a non-rooted phone (another MT4G) I would be able to root no problem. Now to my question/problem. I downgraded the phone to 2.2.1 (after 3 days of working at it) I was also able to temp root with VISIONary and then permroot, which all went fine as well.... I used Titanium backup to back up all apps+data on my other phone to transfer to my new phone but when I go into Titanium backup none of my backed up apps are there...? Has anyone had this problem or something similar? I tried clearing the data, uninstalling, reinstalling... Now on my other MT4G (rooted and running 2.3.4) I used titanium backup and it worked just fine all my apps were there, so I'm wondering if I need to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.3.4 in order to see my backed up apps in Titanium backup? Also, if someone could give me a link to a good guide for noobs for upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.3.4, that would be awesome! Like I said, I am an extreme noob so any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Actually, I can't do that because when I go to my MT4G and go into /sdcard/TitaniumBackup, there are absolutely NO backups in there! But on my old device when I go into /sdcard/TitaniumBackup ALL of my back ups are there. So I'm not sure why they aren't transferring over to my MT4G!
when you are working with your old device ? You can see the backup file rite? Copy it to storage and open the titanium backup folder on mt4g copy the backup file to that folder...try

ClockWorkMod Backup Questions

Hello all,
Coming from a Thunderbolt I was very comfortable with ClockworkMod Recovery, I backed up and flashed often through recovery.
On this VZW S3 upon rooting and installing CWMR standard version 5.8.something my backups were only going to the internal SD card and the dates were never right, always saying 1970. The file size seemed about right (1.5 gb) and there were the normal dozen of so in the backup directory.
Out of desire to backup to my external I card I tried the new EZ Recovery app which installed CWMR 6.0.1.0 I believe, the non touch version. This version would backup to the external SD card, but still had the wrong date name for the backup folder. When I browsed that folder it was only 30mb but there was another folder called blobs that was about 1.5 to 2gb.
Is this how version 6 works? I don't have much confidence that this is a good nandroid backup and that I could restore off of it.
Looking for confirmation that this is how it is to work with version 6 and/or any tips or alternatives you can offer. I want to be able to backup and restore off of my external SD card.
Thanks in advance!

That is indeed how version 6 works. As for the dats, those are sadly messed up in general I haven't seen a fix for that, but i also haven't searched for one because i know which ones are my latest and don't keep many of them anyways. As for it not backing up on 5.8 its because you have to have your SD formatted as FAT32 and exFAT (again not sure if 6.0.1.0 changes that because i formatted mine) But i did successfully backup and restore on version 6 and it worked perfectly.

Thanks Never,
I wiped the card when I first had issues backing up on 5.8. Formatted it with the phone but it still wouldn't give me the backup options. How can you check the formatting?
Wonder how multiple backups work in version 6, does it dump it together in the blobs? Or is is some more intelligent non duplication way of storing multiple backups?
Thanks again!

I formatted mine on the computer just to make sure it worked. So no idea how to check it from the phone sorry.
As for multiple backups, i've got a few backups and it always restores fine, so im assuming its got a way of knowing what goes with what.
And your welcome
Are you trying too back up through rom manager? I've given up on that. I do not have an external card, am rooted, using the latest non touch cwr. I usually boot into recovery manually or through rom manager and backup from there. Have the same issues with dates and large size. But happy to report that I go back and forth between cm10, stock, and synergy rom regularly with no problems. Also remember kexec boots 3 times, it's not a bootloop.

I boot into recovery and backup there, if I do it through Rom Manager I get no choice to backup to external SD at all, but I can in version 6 thru recovery.
Glad to hear it works OK.
What flavor of CM10 are you running and can you give me a link to the one you are using? Does Google Now with the cool voice search work well on CM10? Been dragging my feet! Might be ready to take the plunge.
I can't stand the Touchwiz crappy so cm10 was the only choice for me. Apparently the sms/mms not working but it does not effect me since I use Google voice. Very smooth. Google DROID hive forum and look for it there. It's by dhacker.
Google now working great.

I was wondering if there is somewhere or someone here in the forums that can clarify how these new back-up files work. I like to back-up my back-ups on drop-box, but now that it is creating all these files do I need to move all of these created files together or just the file with the date and time stamp? I want to flash a new rom but want to make sure my current is backed up correctly on my dropbox before doing so.
Any direction is appreciated Thanks
Phone formats to sd card to extFat. Fat32 must be done on PC. No recovery supports extFat. Kexec no longer supported by anyone once bootloader was unlocked. Haven't used Clockwork since TBolt days so don't know how Blob files affect Dropbox backup.
There is an option in CWM to turn off the blobs. I prefer to have backups that are stand-alone, so I personally turn this off.
In CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2:
backup and restore > choose backup format > tar
The two options are "dup (default)" and "tar". The "dup" option gives you the blobs folder. The idea is that it saves space when you have multiple backups. The "tar" option seems to work just like you are used to - one folder per backup.
Where does the sms folder goes?? I forgot to back up my sms using smsbackup and restore but then i was able to make a backup on cwm i like to restore my back up but when i hit restore it says md5 mismatch.. but since i was able to make a backup on cwm where i can find the right folder for sms.. cause i would like to copy it on my current rom folder so i can restore it

Can't upload app from titanium with weapon. Help please.

So I got a little bored of CM7 and decided to flash something new. I went with weapon G2X. Installed fine except for some reason when I am in the ROM itself my file manager does not seem to detect anything that I have on my SD card. I know it's still there because when I boot into recovery I can see them there. I side loaded my Titanium apk (thankfully I threw it on my pc for safekeeping) but it will not allow me to restore any of my apps. When I click on "batch actions" I get an error saying mnt/sdcard/emmc/titaniumbackup cannot be found. In recovery mode I mounted emmc and my sdcard with no help at all. What else can I do? I would really like to get this rom working but if not I'm going to restore from my cm7 nandroid.
So I realized that my TiBa location is actually sdcard/titanium backup not emmc. So in the preferences portion of titanium I changed the backup folder to sdcard/titaniumbackup. But that didn't help my issue. Now all I have is "mnt/sdcard/titaniumbackup cannot be accessed. Even though when I chose the correct location TiBa is TELLING ME that i have 69 backups in that folder. Any ideas?????????
**Edit- Not sure why but TiBa eventually recognized by backup directory and am now in the process of restoring all my lost applications. Any mods can delete the thread. Sorry.
CM7 and stock based roms use different main storages. CM uses the external one while stock uses internal, so when you did tibu it changed its default location when changing roms.
