Thanks.
It's miles better than the Message section in the main app and properly supports Facebook Messages/Chat threading, whereby both appear in Messages. The Message section in the main app doesn't.
I've turned off Message notifications in the main app. There's no point getting two notifications for each message.
p.s - Some messages are missing. I open a friend and some of the messages that appear on Facebook.com aren't there in the app.
I have a problem parsing the apk error message when trying to launch it on my Droid original, rooted, 2.1
Is there a compatibility of this apk and android 2.1 ? thanks
NEVERMIND: this apk requires 2.2 and up
thanks ! !
I'm getting two notifications despite having notifications turned off in the main app.
Anyone else?

Thanks for that, can now finally reply to people who send me messages through chat, without having to fire up the PC.

Good point. It's really annoying how the main app tells me I've got a notification but the chat message doesn't appear in messages and chat is so rubbish it rarely appears in there too.

It was happening to me aswell, but i. Uninstalled the android facebook app.. And i now use 3 diferentes apps for facebook which is a lot more comfortable :
-for inbox (facebook messenger) got push notification
-for chat (go chat facebook)
-for facebook "news, friends, wall, profiles, etc.. " (browser shorcut facebook app) with gmail push notification for notification from facebook
Without any problems (want to see the walls of my friends "browser shorcut ", want to send an inbox "facebook messenger ", want to chat "go chat facebook ")

Have tried to search for it just now but it disappeared! It's nowhere to be found. I wonder if it gets pulled off from the market. Plus, why the attachment is just 2b?
Edit: it's still there, just couldn't access it in any network. Something must be wrong with my xda.

Crucially it's not a Chat but Messaging App and because of this I've found no difference on battery life. I've had to uninstall the likes of eBuddy (FB, MSN, More), Whatsapp, Go Chat (FB) because battery life is so bad. I guess the service must be quite aggressive to track "real-time" incoming/outgoing chat messages.
I've not found the Chat section in the main FB app to cause this problem but that's probably because it barely bloody work in the first place.
Because the two are merged on Facebook it can be used as a Chat App though, i.e - if they're online it will come through in Chat but it doesn't tell you who's online because that would make it a Chat app. Which would be nice.

Apologises I failed physic at school. You said it's 2b, it's not 2b nor is it 2 bytes.
There's nothing wrong with the app, there's possibly something wrong with you though. My mistake your download of it. Download it from the link the OP posted.

Trillian for Android is out.
Best Android IM client I've used so far.
Nice features in short:
- chat tabs
- bubble conversation interface
- your account details are grouped and saved as an 'astra' account on their site.
- chats sent while you are offline are emailed to you

i've been using it and it's been great!
It force closes a lot when I multi-task back to it. I'm sending logs so I'm sure all the kinks will get worked out by the time it hits the market.
Yupe, look great love it
Love the interface also.
Looks promising, but there is no option to add a MSN messenger account.

I noticed that I don't get a notification (sound nor LED) after receiving a message, and I have to open the app then the notification will appear.
Anyone with the same problem?
I didn't have that problem, but I did have the force close issue.
Also I don't think it yet handles links... tried tapping on a link for half a minute, nothing happened
does the send IM via e-mail when in suspend work for you?
i am shown as online in the messenger, but i dont get the email with a new IM

Don't get your pannies in a bunch, it's a BETA.
Anyway, is there a way to remove IM to E-mail?
Tried the app today for a min, it is plain awful.
I can't even use it because I'm getting "wrong password" after registering and trying to login
no major issues on my end but it doesn't place nice with my messengers on my comp signing me out of FB and it not only wipes my WLM display pic(eBuddy also does this) but resets my theme
on the plus side it tells me when i contact is idle in WLM, something eBuddy doesn't do
and it changes your nickname for example my normal nickname qvert is too short for trillian account, if i changed it to something like qvert2 than it changes my nickname in my messenger networks to qvert2 too
It was a disappointment. I also uninstalled for the following reasons:
1) The push function to mail wasn't working on suspend mode.
2) The LED notification does not work.
3) fails to show notification for instant messages, have to open the app in order for notification to occur.
I know it's only beta but it just could not fulfill the basics of a IM chat client at the moment.

you are completely right, lots of apps allow you to connect to facebook and read chat messages. The best thing about this app is that its an official application from facebook, so theres more likely to be less bugs as they know their own system and API's better than anyone else, also any new features for messaging and chat are more than likely gonna show up in their official app before they do on any third party one.

seriously if people spent half the time being ignorant to actually know what they 're talking about, 50% of human stupidity would magically vanish.
its abit like the fact that facebook itself wasnt available out of the university it was created in until they had it running right, ther for they are obviously testing it in america before making it a worldwide app... seems like a gd app could do with a few tweeks tho... thanks for the share most interestin...
I don't see how this is official... The logo is Messenger. That's totally not Facebook.
Also, I've tested with MarketEnabler for various countries and with none of them have I found Facebook Messenger, letalone an official-looking one.
Prove to me that it's official and I might give it my details.
Also, asking for an email address and password instead of using Facebook Connect?
I smell a rat.

Alright, this should settle any doubts.

he sent a link to the official facebook page and people still thought it was fake.

some people need to get a grip ha ha
I think whatsapp still beats it...
It does sounds more like huddle from google+.
why separate?
why did fb release this as a separate app? shouldn't this just replace the messaging part of the regular fb app?
m.
For those people who cant seem to find it with market enabler,
1. try market access.
2. the new market(the one with the black background) does not show the apps which are not available for your country, even though it show the currency symbol according to the country selected in enabler(or access).
Work around is here
nygmam said:
I use a simple method, which works very well, and so far has not had a down side:
1) Using Titanium Backup (Or another app that lets you do this) either Freeze (Paid app) or Backup, then delete Market Update (Free App)
2) Go to Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, and scroll down to market, and select
3) Uninstall updates from Market
This is very easy to do, and you may be able to use other freeze or backup apps to achieve the same result. Also note, no reboot required.

After getting old market back, use market enabler(access), select any US carrier and search for facebook messenger.
P.S. one simple way to see if your new market is showing the blocked apps is to search for some popular app which is blocked in your country like pandora. It will show up in search suggestions but not in search result...
P.S.2 I hope this is clear.
This app is simple but useful for people that heavily use full screen apps (games/browsers/ect). It gives a nice little notification that shows the text message/email you just received, allowing you to decide if it's worth quitting your app to reply to it (see picture), even if you're in another app! You can turn the notifications on and off via the main screen. The best part of it is you can play and the notification will not interfere with your touch on the game. It might also have the simplest options menu.
FEATURE LIST:
Works with third party SMS applications
Now supports K9 Mail (requires K9 Mail for functionality)
Shows the sender (name from contacts list or number if contact doesn't exist)
Shows the sender and contents of the message
Low profile
Doesn't interfere with the touch interface of whatever task you are doing
Easy to turn on or off just by the touch of a checkbox
Lightweight
No more quitting Angry Birds just to see that someone texted you "lol"
Works in portrait and landscape orientations
Permissions explained:
Read SMS: So that it can read the text to show you
Read contacts: so that it can see if anyone in your contacts shares the same number and the text sender
Please report any bugs to me.
P.S. I know this is a VERY simplistic app and may seem pointless. If you feel that way that is fine, however I have had a lot of people that laughed at it originally tell me they can't use any full screen app without and they never turn it off. So I simply ask you give constructive criticism. Thank you!

Crazy, I was literally just thinking it would be cool to have something exactly like this on my SGS2 when I was playing Star Diamonds Capture... it's an online multiplayer game that you can't really back out of unless you want to risk losing the match, but I always want to make sure I'm not ignoring an important text.

that's the only thing I know
Current priority order (with bug fixes and maintenence in between):
1) Notification system overhaul (notifiy the user of failed messages, support turning notifications off for a specific service, etc.)
2) Import tooling for SMS/MMS and Disa DB backup/import support
3) Emoji support
4) Message drafts support (there's a placeholder already by holding down the attachments button!)
4) broastcasts
5) Push-to-Talk
4) Quick reply
5) Conversation specific settings
6) Dark theme
Once everyone is happy with the App, bugs are solved, and the feature-set is rich, THEN work will be under way of another service. I've changed my mind by the way (after a convincing post), the next service will be Facebook integration.

I don`t know if that is allowed, because the developer wants you to join the g+ group...
One reason devs want to use google+ and gpl to publish betas is that you can update the app very easily. That means that everybody has the newest version so they won't receive notes about bugs that are resolved in the newest apk. Hope that made sence

no problem mate
I don't know if you wanna get this information here or just look for it yourself but this morning the dev postet some nice information on g+
I've signed off 0.3.1. I will do a day of testing, and then release it.
0.3.2 will be the notification overhaul.
Features:
=>Bitmap thumbnails from phone book are now loaded on an as-use-basis. This will both conserve memory and make loading contact thumbnails faster.
=> Sprint MMS should hopefully be fixed.
=> There are now Overflow buttons (instead of those hidden longclick popup menus).
=> Party information support improved.
=> Clicking on a contact picture or a participant in a party now brings up an info dialog (displays status, last seen, and big/small photo). Keeping up to date with friends you don't talk to on a regular basis is now easy.
=> Text stuck on "needs settings" fixed.
=> Search improved (now supports diacritics, redundant spaces, etc.)
=> SMS delivery reports (second tick), SMS sending system rewritten, and unicode SMS bugfix (sending 40-80 character texts in with non ASCII characters would fail).
=> some UI overhaul, yet again.
=> misc. bug fixes
=> Hybrid Fall Through / Sync mode. Tasker will work now with SMS.
Disa is really getting more stable. Thank you to all who accidentally crashed the app - crash reports are fantastic.
+Max Kovaljov has started working on reverse engineering Facebook Messenger for Android's protocol. It's very similar to the web-based Windows desktop messenger.
Cheers!
Oh no you di-dn't!!

0.3.2 will come in the next few days but the services will be implemented with plugins!
which plugins do you plan?
WhatsApp Offline Mode
WhatsApp Silent
This Application will disable the whatsapp notification you get when someone sends you a message ,and the best part that the other user will get only one tick which means you haven't received it yet.
No internet disconnection is required to fail to receive the messages.
How to use:
Easy just press to put WhatsApp in offline or online mode.

This won't hide your last seen status but will prevent you from getting any message outside the app itself
it works by killing the whatsapp background service and prevent it from restarting
Hope this clears the confusion

And the advantage is...? Other than maybe a somewhat better batterylife I fail to see any Usually an app like this is meant for people who want incoming messages to arrive will not constantly using the app.
YMMV of course, probably others will find it genius, dunno

The thing is you didn't receive it , you aren't obliged to answer
No question gets asked from the other side because the message never got passed to you in first place

You can't answer anyway because you HAVEN'T received it. As soon as you open the app and see the message you don't want to respond to you're already "online" again anyway and the same issue arrises. Why don't you answer, you are online!?
It's only of ANY use when you are able to see the message and the other party thinks not.

Got you sir but the app wasn't done for anonymously viewing the message but rather to not to get it in first place
WhatsApp doesn't go offline so you receive messages any time of the day, which maybe sometimes kinda annoying. so this disable the notification from coming if you want to and at the same time the other message stays at one tick so it didn't reach to the other side.

Clear and understood! :good:
What IS handy is that you can "disble" Whatsapp temporarily while still being able to receive e-mail and other notifications. So in that regard: well done indeed :good:
Good luck with the app! :fingers-crossed:

Thank you:victory:
Why not just make an app that will turn off notifications for whatsapp? I do that manually but an easier way of doing it would be great.

Looking forward for your feedback , some people reported problems :fingers-crossed:
Hello,
Does anyone have an alternative ? Use whatsapp in offline without updating last seen or Block connexion data and reactivate quickly of whatsapp only.
Thanks
