A very strange SIM card problem with new ROMs - Thunderbolt General

I have a very strange problem with my Thunderbolt that is connected to newer Gingerbread ROMs with Sense 3.0.
The thing happens is that the SIM card is not detected by the device in those ROMs (Gingeritis 3D Beta VII, Synergy and Liquid Gingersense 1.6. I have run them with the MR2, MR2.75 and the leaked MR3 radio and different combinations without any success. I have also updated the CWM to the modded 4.0.0.5 from 3.1.0.2 and completely wiped /system, /data and Dalvik cache between every flash.
When I flash an older Gingerbread like Gingeritis 1.2, the SIM card is detected again and contacts stored there show up. But immediately when a new Sense 3.0 ROM is flashed, it simply disappears which also removes the 4G connection of obvious reasons. The result of that is a complete loss of all data connection. It's possible to get 1X with the cover off (removal of the 4G antenna) but immediately when the cover is put back, all connection (including 1X and 3G) disappears.
All problems seems to be related to some kind of compatibility problem between the SIM card and the newer ROMs. My Thunderbolt is one of the first out there and it runs the first "Easy root" method that was released.
Beside this strange problem with the SIM card and the associated loss of data connection, it works perfect.
It would be interesting if there are any suggestions. I have double checked all MD5 checksums to be sure that all ROMs has been downloaded properly.
I am grateful for help with this issue. I would prefer to run the latest Sense 3.0 ROMs with working 4G.

My guess would be a bum SIM card. It really shouldn't act like that regardless of ROM or radio.

I decided, out of curiosity, to try with my T-Mobile SIM card to see what's happen. It can be read and show up in the phone book properly. So it seems like I have to order a new SIM card then.
It's a bit strange that the card fails this way because I've never experienced that with other SIM cards that I have used for years. But the inability to read it with specific ROM/radios indicates that there are some kind of compatibility issue. My SIM is one of the first they shipped with the Thunderbolt so perhaps it's a part of the bad batch.

I have now made some additional experiments including flashing the device without the SIM inserted. That removes all abilities to make calls, obviously.
When the SIM is reinserted, it found the network with a strong signal and calling works. I have now also noticed that saving contacts to the SIM works and the People app can show them properly. The only place where the problem shows up is under Wireless and Networks under the APN settings. When I enter that part, it says "no SIM found". Otherwise the card is obviously found by the device and calls are working. Data connection is not working though, it's only if I remove the battery cover that I can manage to get 1X working. So there seems to be something going on with the SIM in the 4G department.
My experimenting indicates that the SIM is working otherwise. When I tried other ROMs I have now noticed that the 4G is missing, it can't connect on 4G at all. The difference is that "SIM card not found" under APN settings is not shown.
Status for now with other words:
1. Phone calls works.
2. Saving and managing contacts to and on the SIM works.
3. APN settings presents the "no SIM card found" message. The APN itself shows up.
4. Data connection is not working with the battery cover on.
5. With the battery cover off, I receive 1X.
I have also tried to set it on CDMA (auto PRL) without any success when it comes to data connection with the battery cover on.

Belgium BASE network issues

Hi,
I'm a quite newbie in the htc android tweaking world, so please be a bit understanding.
I know that there was a thread like this on this forum, but I couldn't find now. I'm sorry for that. If anyone can point me that thread, I will paste my post there, and ask for closing this one. I know that it is annoying when users create multiple threads with the same topic.
Well, I bought my phone on an auction as British T-mobile branded, but sim lock has been removed. I used it in Poland without problem, but when I got to Belgium I started to have major issues with Base network.
Since the phone had simlock removed not legal way, I S-offed with revolutionary (my HBOOT since then is in version 6.something - is this good or bad?), then rooted, finally debranded by installing original, signed Europe ROM, although I tried several roms before.
I used ClockworkMod as my recovery tool, but recently I read that it is deprecated, so I flashed it with 4ext recovery. I'm happier with the new tool.
Anyway, My problem is that before I could not use any simcard from BASE, the phone refused to connect saying that sim card refuses the connection.
It was with any andy version, so I actually applied the 1.47.401.4 update that everyone hates, and I didn't see any difference.
Then, very recently I found a post about a new radio version 20.48.300822U_3822.09.08.20_M. I applied it, and also copied the RIL files. It got better, I finally can connect. I had to drink for that Two months of fighting...
But every time the signal drops badly, the phone disconnects from the network and refuses to connect again saying that sim card doesn't allow connecting this network, and shows notification that BASE network is unavailable. Despite that, GPRS data connection is active, and I can connect to internet. Isn't that odd?
Then I need to reboot to 4EXT, and whipe Cache and Dalvik cache. It usually happens once per day - at my work, where I have quite network signal. Supprisingly after cache whiping, the phone can connect, and it seems that signal strength gets better...
I'm glad that after clearing the cache everything works, but I would be even more happy if I wouldn't have to do it... Does anyone know the problem? Has experienced something like this? Has a solution?
Should I use the new 2.3.5 based official rom? Can I transfer data somehow, so when I flash the phone, I still have the data that was there before flashing?
Hey, i'm on Mobile Vikings wich uses the BASE network but i never had anything like this before, could it be a kernel issue?

In short:
My phone was original British T-Mobile branded. I s-off my phone, rooted, changed roms but I still had no connectivity to Base in Belgium. I tried experimental roms, original roms, branded roms, radios... but nothing changed. After switching to original HTC European rom, applying 1.47.401.4 update and flashing the newest radio, I have connectivity, but still in bad signal range, my phone would disconnect from Base, and display me a message that the sim card doesn't allow connecting to this network. Then I need to boot to 4EXT, clear cache and dalvik cache, and after reboot everything works fine for a day or two...
Update:
Today clearing cache didn't work... After searching for network, I select BASE and I get a message saying that sim card refuses to connect to this network. Clearing cache, going to flight mode, just restarting the phone - nothing works... What else can I do?
There is one another thing I find weird - in mobile networks settings, every time I select network mode WCMDA or GSM, it always goes back to "WCMDA/GSM Auto" and I can't chage that.
Buy proximus or mobistar. I reccomend mobistar, best signal in BE
(I live next to belgium border so i visit belgium a lot )

Yeah, but they have expensive internet. If I had just for calls, I would not buy belgian sim card at all, but use my polish number. Call prices are not that much different in roaming...
By the way, I switched to the new, 2.3.5 OTA update based rom by proxuser, but still no luck.
After many hours of stuggling, searching for answers - I found another thing that helps me: sim card needs to have a pin lock enabled. That's crazy, but works - When I loose my connectivity (described above), I reboot the phone, enter pin and everything works fine... sometimes I need to switch to a drifferent pin locked card first...
It would be better if I had not to do it everytime I loose range... So I see that sim settings are also somehow cached and switching to other sim card that has pin enabled cleans that cache. is there a way to clean that cache without having to switch sim cards?
Where can I find this cache? is it a file that could be deleted (or cleared)? formatting /cache partition, as well as clearing Dalvik cache didn't work, so I guess it is not there...
Because the procedure to renew the connection looks now like this:
1. turn off the phone
2. enter sim card that you know that will connect
2. boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot
3. provide pin and wait until it connects to a network
4. power off, switch card to the belgian one, power on
5. wait until it connects by it self. if it doesn't start from point 1...
it usually catches after 1 or second time...
agh, ity only worked for some time... now nothing works... I can not even connect to BASE using any other sim cards that are in roaming... I'm able to connect with other mobile phones, but not this... But it connects to Mobistar and Proximus without problems... I'm suspecting some kind of a defect that appears only with this network. But since I don't have warranty to that phone, I can't send it to the service...
I will try to return to stock rom again...
Now I'm using the phone with my Polish sim card in roaming, but actually I can't use internet then, and all I wanted it for was mobile networking... For a phone just for calling and sending messages any other phone that costs half of the price would be ok...

Going nuts SIM card problems!!

Both before and after the update, I would get S card errors whether I would be connected to Wifi. I noticed it when I would see the red wifi calling icon in the status bar. It was either ER05 "Invalid SIM card" or REG99 "cannot connect" (I think that's right).
I tried all the tricks in the forums here and elsewhere. Finally I marched into my local TMO store and read them the riot act, and they replaced the SIM card. Because I want in wifi (and in a hurry) it wasn't tested. The rep just put it in and rebooted and said "its fine".
But as soon as I got home and turned wifi on, I had no icon for wifi calling. So I rebooted, and in about a minute I has the red icon again. The only way to get rid of it, is to try to initiate call about 5 to 10 times and at some point it will start and become blue (normal). But if I am not making a call, at some point it shuts off (the wifi calling).
I know there is not much to do at this point but I thought I would ask if any one could make sense of this. My log files are very weird...but I don't know who had the skills to understand them...
Anyway..any thoughts?

Same issue here ...had the sim replaced and same issue, I fixed it by flashing an EU based ROM...any ways hope this helps
I don't know what it is either. I finally restored a nandroid I made from just after the update, and things seem stable again.
I don't know what it is, but I based on the fact that your problems were resolved after a custom ROM, I am pretty sure this is all stock apps which may not appear to be problematic when they are deleted, but somehow cause problems in the future

After installing the amazing Speed ROM after a full wipe, I am having this SIM card issue: ER05
In Wifi setttings there's no option to turn it off.
This icon always appears when my wifi is on, which is almost all the time.
Is there anything I can do?
i had an issue like that where i needed to go online and input a 911 address for wifi calling to operate properly, probably a different issue but it did go away when i flashed a custom rom. might be worth checking out

XOOM 4G loses Data connection after Rom updates

I have been updating my 4G XOOM for many months with no issues to the Team EOS nightly builds Stingray 4G versions. The 4g data connection has never had issues until I installed EOS-Stingray-96 and newer. Basically, it seems as though the XOOM no longer detects the SIM card with 96 and newer. If I roll back to Eos-stingray-94 and older once again my sim card is detected and data connection working again.
I have confirmed this is also occurring with the Jelly Bean builds that is will not detect the SIM.
I have tried the usual, pull sim out, put back in, replaced SIM, reboot, power off, etc.
The Status shows the following on the builds that cause the SIM card to not detect.
Signal strength 0
Mobile network type unknown
Service state out of service
Mobile network state disconnected
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Well if you would search the thread you would know you would have to flash the new radio to maintain your mobile data....
EDIT: And here you go
Also be sure to update your recovery before flashing that

[Q] No Mobile Data

Hi guys,
I've tried searching but have not found the answer. I successfully rooted and loaded AOKP, as well as CM10 and one other ROM. On all of them, I can make calls and use wi-fi, but can't get mobile data. The signal bar shows "3G" and "H+" at times, but never turns blue when wi-fi is off. I've checked http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1976 (t-mobile site) which includes instructions on APN settings for data and picture mail, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. I've also tried turning Airplane Mode on and off, and I've done a factory reset and cleared Dalvik cache for each ROM. The SIM card is about 4 years old, if that matters.
Thanks a lot for the help!
Sounds like the sim card my sim card is less than a year old and randomly my phone doesn't have network and a message comes up and says to clean my simcard because its dirty or corrupt. So I turn my phone off take out the sim wipe it on my pants lol and insert it back in and its fine after that. I would get a new sim and try it out or use a friends sim and see if it works correctly if not then it sounds like the sim port on the phone itself.

LG G5 Sim not detected only for SMS and calls

As stated I'm using the LG G5 H830 T-Mobile variant. I am getting 4G LTE data connection and everything runs well (Not in any WiFi range) Yet for SMS and calling as well as mobile hotspot I get "No USIM card' error. This happened after wiping the system and formatting data. Rebooted recovery (as per instructions on forum) then installed the stock firmware & Patch with systemless root and xposed. After this I did factor reset when just pulling the sim didn't help. Still nothing. I reflashed just the stock firmware with TWRP and SuperSU and issue is still happening. I've disabled rebooted and enabled the phone radio. SIM is in good condition and tray as well everything is SECURE and should be good to go.
I'm assuming a new SIM might be a solution. But I'm not counting on it and with Labor Day tomorrow for me I wouldn't be able to pick one up for 2 days. So here I am...hoping someone might have a fix. I know I don't have many posts on here. But I am an experienced user....just not with the more basic of problems I guess
Thanks!!
Has anyone else experienced this yet? I'm just curious...I had it fixed for a couple days. I've formatted data and done complete system wipe. Tried it resetting phone with the COMPLETE zip and TOT using LGUP. I'm receiving texts. Not calls. Not able to send either. I've activated new sim, didn't help. LG support just told me to look into warranty. T-Mobile needless to say just wanted. Sim card does show stock tmobile short code contacts but phone number shows as unknown. Hotspot won't work. I've tried setting the phone number to the sim. Nothing.
Anyways. I don't think I messed with anything, even so I've done everything to start the phone from scratch. Going to replace it, just more or less curious at this point and maybe others have had the same issue.
I believe I had the same issue as you and it was driving me crazy. I was constantly wiping data, system, etc but my phone kept giving the message "roaming indicator off" where it should show the name of the carrier. This resulted in me having LTE data and that's it- no 3g, no phone calls, etc. I couldn't even access the mobile network menu.
What ended up causing the issue was the network mode setting under wireless networks. Keep in mind at this point I'm running a patched rom which now gives more options in the network mode menu than the phone came factory with. I have an area at work where I have to switch to 3g, GSM/wcdma preferred network setting, because although I have full LTE signal, my connection goes dead. When switching back from 3g I chose the setting lte/CDMA thinking this would force my phone to stay in lte mode due to another area on an upper floor where the phone will constantly drop lte.
Anyways this resulted in my phone saying roaming indicator unavailable, the inability to make or receive phone calls, and either the mobile networks or network mode menus being grayed out. When stuck in this mode there is no way to put the phone back into the standard "GSM/wcdma/lte" mode. Even a complete reflash won't fix it. I even used lgup, which worked for maybe a day until it force closed the phone app and went back to roaming indicator unavail. I wiped every partition and even reflashed radio firmware. Nothing worked.
What ended up fixing it was using an app called v10 hidden settings which allowed me to access the network mode menu directly and re-choose the lte/wcdma/GSM setting. Incidentally on first access to this menu through the app there are only two network settings available. Once you choose a GSM setting, the rest appear.
I'm not sure if this was your issue but I hoped this helped because this took me about a week to workout.
