Gmail Counter Problem - Verizon Droid Charge

I have a problem with my DC. I am unable to get TouchWiz to display the Gmail unread email counter on the Gmail icon. I was running TouchWiz 4.5 and had no problem with the badge showing using Gmail version 2.3.4. When the new market force updated on my phone, it decided that it would force update to the 2.3.5 version of Gmail as well, even though I had auto update turned off for that. I rolled back to the default 2.3.2 that came with EE4.
Now, I don't know exactly when it quit working, or even if the 2.3.5 update/rollback had anything to do with it. Here's what I have done to try and get it back so far:
1) Roll back to TouchWiz 3.0
2) Tried clearing what data files I could find for TouchWiz (in data/data and data/dbdata)
3) Tried removing, rebooting then replacing the Gmail app
None of these things made a difference
Now, a few things to note:
1) The VVM and SMS counters work fine
2) Temporarily installing the SMS Unread Count widget confirms that Gmail is allowing 3rd party apps to access the counter
I would appreciate any help with this, as it is driving me nuts. I would also like to avoid a factory reset if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Now Gmail unread counter 2.0 new version. Works good with new Gmail app. You have to buy it on Market :-(

[Q] Nook Color gmail oddity

I have seen dozens if not 100's of posts about gmail issues with an auto nootered NC. I can't seem to fix my issue or find anything similar. I have a NC version 1.0.1 that I used auto nooter 2.12.25 and made sure everything worked, market, gmail, rom manager, etc. Then I used the NookColor_v1.1.0_r2.zip file to update the firmware to 1.1. It all seems to work but gmail now closes when I try to delete an email. If I mark the email as unread, then delete, it works as expected. Any ideas?
ADDENDA: strange, I go into the BN library and get an unauthorized error and the system reboots into the 2.12.25 auto-nooter screen.
I had the same problem. GMail was constantly restarting. In the end, my problem was under
Settings->App Settings->Social->Google Account
Simply by unlinking the Google account did the trick. GMail is working well.
Hope it helps.
fpb
thanks for the tip, my NC has slowly spiraled out of control since I did the update. I am now, by appearance anyway, back to a simple base install 1.0.1 auto nootered with 2.12.25. We will see how it goes from here for a while before moving on again.

Resetting Rooted EE4 Debloated?

I have Rooted EE4 Debloated 4.2.1 installed on my SamChg.
I am having a problem with GMail that nobody has fixed yet (or responded to much, darn it ).
In an attempt to fix my GMail problem, I was thinking of doing a Factory Reset. Would doing the Factory Reset still get me back to Rooted Debloated 4.2.1 with CWM and Voodoo?
P.S.: It sure would be nice if CWM Recovery was working, tho.
Thanks,
have you tried to uninstall gmail and reinstall it?
I just tried removing/reinstalling GMail, and it had no effect. I still get 2 notifications for each new GMail I receive - one with the default notification ringtone, and one with the ringtone selected in the GMail app.
Nobody else has responded much to my questions on this problem, so I figured I should reset my SamChg back to Factory Defaults and see what happens.
That should only blow about 2 hours of time to get back to where I am now
A factory reset does not get you back to a stock ROM, but it gets you to a fresh version of whatever ROM you have installed, and certainly may help your problem. That sounds like a specific issue on your phone, so that's a good troubleshooting step, though fairly heavy handed since it will reset everything on your phone. Have you tried just going in to your list of applications and clearing the data for GMail?
I tried clearing the settings, but it had no effect. When I re-enabled Gmail syncing, I got 2 notifications.
I actually don't think that doing the Factory Reset will solve the problem, but I don't know what else to do right now.

Do you have any other app setup to check your Gmail email? Or another address that email is forwarded to from Gmail that your phone is also checking?

Hi, imnuts - I don't have any other apps checking GMail when I am experiencing this problem.
On the other hand, the only way I have found to fix this problem - currently - is to:
Turn off GMail Sync (under Account Sync),
Freeze the GMail application, and then
Setup my GMail through the TW Email app (with "Push" delivery).
It's a mess I shouldn't need to do, and I also have much slower GMail delivery since I'm at Verizon's mercy as to when *they* want to "push" my email to me.
Also, I don't have any other emails routed to the GMail application.

I'd consider the Factory Reset. I've seen stranger things fixed by that. If that doesn't work, reflash the ROM and kernel.

The past couple of days I've been trying to figure out what/how to fix my framework crashes. I finally got to do a factory reset and I haven't seen any issues so far...
"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want."
Well, I got some experience.
Doing a Factory Reset on the Debloated v4.2.1 is a VERY BAD THING.
There was virtually nothing available in the App Drawer (not even the Market). In addition, I can't get connected to the 4G network now. I get 5 signal bars, but it never connects to 4G (and, poorly to 3G). Not to mention all the FCs, so I won't mention them.
So, I ODIN'd to the EE4 DXC Voodoo, and it's better. But, I still can't connect to the 4G network.
Sigh.
OK - I got my 4G back, along with most (but not all) of my apps.
I also have the darned GMail double-notifications back, too.

[Q] Contacts Force Close

Ive been using Eagleblood 1.9 Based on the OTA GB 2.3.3 for months now with no problems. Just recently i experienced an issue with my contacts where it would force close sometimes when trying to edit or create a new contact as well as trying to change the display options. **This only happens when i have my facebook or skype accounts added to the phone and syncing contacts with them **
I have tried re-installing, using the stock rooted 2.3.3 rom as well with no luck. Contacts works fine if i go to Settings > Accounts & Sync and remove all of the accounts there. I also used the Rom Manager to fix permissions, cleared contacts data and re-synced and the only thing that seems to work is like i said remove the accounts completely besides of course my Google account!
Cant seem to figure this out tried looking across the board for the same issue but havent had any luck has anyone else had this experience as well?
The error i get is the usual force close no other option on process "android.process.acore"
--- can any1 help with this?
Update: well i answered my own question if anyone is experiencing this you need to format everything internal sd & ext sd, ive lost all my back ups and apps and text messages as well as pictures not backed up however ive installed everything back on that i had and somehow this is gone! weird!

[Q] Gmail and ICS on multiple devices

I hope this is the right place for this question, since I am talking about multiple devices... here's the problem:
On ICS my gmail won't send. The message sits in the list as "sending" and never does.
Background: This happens on both my droid 3 and my tf101, on the D3 it happens on all ICS Roms. On the TF101 it happens with all ICS roms AND the ASUS upgrade.
Things I have tried:
1. Clear Data / cache many times
2. reinstall ROMS / google apps with full wipe, format system, davlik cache etc.
3. Tried different ROMS (Cyanogen Mod, etc.)
I love the feel of ICS on my devices, but I have to be able to send mail via gmail. Any thoughts or advice?

I had this problem a while ago.
But I think I was being stupid. I had my Google account set up, but disabled syncing of mail.
I then set up another e-mail account for my Gmail (Exchange / Corporate) and used this account to send and receive mail.
This worked for a while, but then sending also stopped working.
After deleting this account and enabling syncing for my google account, I started using the Gmail app and never had a problem since.
Don't know if you might have done the same thing?
If not, perhaps try remove and re-add your account.
Added / Deleted Accounts
So I made up a new google acct, then deleted the original. The new account would send mail via the gmail app..... put the original account back on and no mail.
Leads me to believe that it is my account settings for gmail in google... just where should I start?
Fixed
So I went into settings > Acct > Send mail as
I made gmail the default, and a message was sent,
then changed it back to the pop3 acct I wanted to be the default and now email will send.
I have no idea why this works/helps but it did. I will post if anything changes.
My next step is to reinstall an ICS rom on my droid 3 and see if I can send email from there.
Have a great day!
Hi!
I have the same probem and I have tried your solution - it did not work.
What I have noticed is that when I attach a picture in a mail this mail sits in outbox until I reach wi-fi. It does not send mail if it is on mobile network.
I checked every possible setting that I can find to allow sending mail on mobile network... but nothing works.
If anybody has a solution I would be very happy to hear it since this problem is realy annoying.
ICS 4.0.4 cm9
I have a problem, I can not do the update ics 4.0.4 I restarted my Google nekus one

gmail not pushing mail

So, ever since the N update on my S7 and now on the S8, my email doesn't push/sync right away at all anymore. I have to go into the email for it update. I'm not sure whyy it's doing this. I haven't set it up that way, have background data allowed, and don't have any battery saviors set up to do this...
Any ideas on this why this is happening?
Nougat's overly aggressive doze is the cause here. Fix: https://androidtutorial.net/2017/05/02/fix-delayed-push-notifications-galaxy-s8s8/
The option under Special Access you want to look at is Optimise battery Usage.
I have the same issue. I have gmail set so that it is NOT Optimized for battery. I still don't get gmail updates (and therefore no notification) until I open the app (usually). Sometimes I do get the notification soon after the email is sent to me. Rather random.
After messing around for a while, I think it is a no notification thing and not a lack of synchronizing the emails. If I send myself a gmail, I get no notification, but I can look in my google account and see where gmail has synchronized. Then I go to gmail and the message is there.
^yep, could be related...but how to resolve?

So, I solved it by going to the app manager and disabling the gmail app. Since it is a system app, it doesn't uninstall it, but reverts it back to some previous version. That version has been giving me the appropriate notifications for every email I have received since.
I think I will look at disabling updates for gmail for a while.

I deleted data for the app. That also fixed the problem (for now anyway)
This has been an ongoing issue for me for over a year. It was an issue on this phone, my S7 edge and Note7.
Often I will see an email on my phone, read and archive it, then go about my business. Several hours later I go into Gmail on my PC and that email is still sitting there, unread.
Actually sending out an email on the phone seems to make the sync update, but other actions like reading, moving, or deleting emails doesn't. I've had times where my emails were still unread on the Gmail website 12 hours after reading them on the phone. I have the app's battery optimization settings turned off, and I have even gone into the app several times during that period and pulled down to check for new messages. It's pretty awful that the sync has such serious issues and nobody is fixing it.
Deleting the app's updates doesn't work for me. It might fix the issue briefly, but it always comes back pretty quickly, even without any updates to the app.
The only thing that fixed the issue for me was installing an app called something like "Gmail Push Fixer". It worked wonders on my S7 edge. Unfortunately, the app requires root so it isn't an option on my Snapdragon S8+.
