[Q] Red Voodoo CWM? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

I keep reading in different places about a red voodoo cwm...? And yes, I know the rules, I have searched and searched the forum and threads... how do I install this version of CWM? I've used Krylon360's CWM to no avail. (Can't backup roms, flashing = softbricks, Odin back to KD1).
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App

the Red CWM is only included in the Bali kernel, as it is used for Voodoo tweaks.
In the future this should go in the general forum, as it's a question.

So how do you get this? I'm having the same problem. With cwm4 it doesn't wipe... with 3.x.x I get soft brick everytime even when I change the mounts. Going on the fifth time I have to odin...

You have to look in. The dev section that says in the thread title bali/voodoo (CWM)
The orange CWM was **** and didn't work at all but voodoo does

Orange is cwm mtd and you won't ever use that on the infuse, it oases a different type of scripting, it I'd typically used to flash CM7 but our CM7 uses a themed version that it's blue I believe (haven't flashed it so I dunno)
You would want cmw for the i9000 non mtd (green) for initial flashing ( get it through ROM manager) but if you flash a custom ROM or kernel you will likely have red cwm which is modded and themed cwm for use with voodoo lagfix. It will be baked into the kernel and totally replaces 3e recovery (blue)

I did the reg i9000 thru rom manager. I didnt go mtd. After i did it i didnt have recovery. So one user said to reinstall packages so i did and got orange. Im on stock rooted rom. Not a custom rom yet. The guys in miui said blue or orange is ok to flash miui. Idk
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Maybe they changers the color, idk?? I never use cwm through ROM manager. I skip right to the voodoo kernel through heimdall. (no need to root or change recovery)
I've never had orange... I typically go straight to green from stock after replacing the recovery using root explorer, using rom manager to flash i9000, rebooting to cwm, and wiping the caches.

Personally I haven't. I always flash from red voodoo. But I have heard its fine.

How to install CWM on stock kj6?

Does anyone know how to install CWM on stock kj6? I don't want to use the custom kernel. Tried copying the recovery and update.zip but no go. Getting the signature error. Not sure what to try next.

Don't think you can have clockwork mod without a modded kernel on gingerbread.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Krylons method was for froyo. Your gonna have to go with the modded kernel to get cwm.

It's not kj6.
Also, my last attempt to use one of these kernels wasn't very successful. Had a couple of little glitches here and there and it drove me nuts.
Now the phone works perfectly on a rooted stock kj6 with junk removed, so I don't feel like risking it, especially not having CWM to backup the stock config.
+1
I am also on stock Gingerbread, rooted, and happy with it. I'd like to install CWM *before* I start mucking about with my ROMs. ROM Manager claims to support it, but it didn't list my phone in its detected devices and then I saw here that one shouldn't use it anyway so I uninstalled it.
So what's the easiest/noobiest way to install CWM on my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4g 2.3.6 rooted?
Heindall.... With the the kj6 kernel in the development forum.

How about you develop a new kernel? All we got is drhonks kj1 and bhundven kj6, both customs... Wait... How you plan to get cwm if you dont "custom" a kernel? Interesting, huh?
You don't need cwm to have an easy way of fixing roms if anything goes wrong, theres always odin and heimdall.

Man you're an arrogant dude. People ask for some help and you tell them to dev a new kernel! Put you're money where your mouth is.
As for the OP I think you get the idea. It's either custom or no go.

Hi Joseph. In my opinion, the easiest way is to flash bhndven's Subtly Modified Stock with CWM5 + Voodoo Lagfix. That way you have a KJ6-based kernel, the latest CWM, root, & voodoo lagfix.
Good luck!
i can`t understand this
what this is ?
i am new for this plz simplest this for me

Read every stickied thread in this and the development forum, it will explain the process to you in the most detail possible. If reading these is too much, then you'll be better off with an iPhone.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Reading is defniitely key. If the subtly modified kernel is too difficult, though, maybe you should try a ROM from the The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list, SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders, will give you cwm, root, and voodoo lagfix.
It is simple to install & only requires Java. Just follow the instructions on the post.

Rainbow recovery and flashing rom

Hey everybody, so I might be posting in the wrong section but since its a question I figured I'd post in the Q&A. So my question is since I still have froyo BL and on CM9 can I still flash another rom even though my recovery has the rainbow effect? In recovery the top 1/3 is rainbow but the rest I can read good. I want to flash revolution rom. And I would Odin or heimdall back to stock and go from there but I have no PC. So yeah would it be safe to wipe all and flash revolution even though I'm on a froyo BL, blue CWM and on CM9?

Yeah, you have had to wait a really long time for an answer. I figured folks were just waiting for you to check out the other threads with the exact same question.
Just messing with you, and you'd really be fine to flash the rom that you want to flash. Your best bet would be to get set up right, though. To get rid of the rainbows, it's not too hard to get Gingerbread bootloaders. Follow the instructions in this post to a "t", including the part in the FAQ about how to get red CWM, and you'll have everything you need for a rainbow free rom flashing experience. It will get you set up on stock Gingerbread with custom recovery. Then you can flash any of the other available roms.:

No it wont work he needs to update to antonx's kernel first. Read his op he has CWM 3.xxx and that will not let you upgrade to cm7.

The wiki says to use 5.0.2.x because 3.x.x.x versions DO NOT work. You're giving the wrong advice again.
Mierkat09 you are pretty new at this....try sticking with learning and less with helping.....this isn't ur first failed help guide.
Not trying to be mean here but really...you keep jumping in over your head.. I understand your only trying to help.

But the first time you flash it,doesn't it update it to blue, and then you can use that to flash cm7, right?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
It flashes directly into the ROM and boots you CM7. Maybe you should try what you're recommending to do before you try giving people advice, you're relaying it by the way you understood it which isn't necessarily the way it actually works.
Go back to stock, try to flash CM7 from CWM 3.
Go back to stock, try to flash CM7 from CWM 5.0.2.X
Come back when you know what happens and you'll see why the instructions in the wiki are the way they are.
When you're in doubt about giving advice, read the official instructions. We try to make it as easy as possible for everyone to do this.
mierkat, to make things simple there are 2 different version of "RED" CWM. The old version was back on Froyo and the early gingerbread leak custom kernels. We have moved on from then, and there is a NEW version of the 5.0.x.x CWMs. This is because bhundven's sms kernel's and fb's sms kernels used them. On all the current-ish GB roms like vb fb and other new ones, you have 5.0.x.x. So you are safe if you flash CM7-CM9-AOKP-AOSP by erikmm-other TKA-other TNo0b-etc... from these newer Touchwiz GB roms. The best way to check is by booting to recovery. If you have 3.x, then I recommend downloading Valhalla-Black by FBis251 which can be found in the general section. After flash, without rebooting, go to the main CWM home menu, then go to advanced, then choose reboot recovery. You should now be in a 5.0.x.x CWM. Here you can have fun!
EDIT: FB beat me to it
I see, sorry about that. Was confused because i thought the red was always 3.x and blue was 5.0.x.x. When i flashed cm7,i just followed the instructions in the wiki
