[Q] Removing icons/clock on status bar (Stock Froyo) - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

did some research but can't find a way to remove the clock from the status bar on stock froyo for the evo shift. i'm usually on shiftdeck but wanted to flash back to stock froyo for a bit cuz i missed it. after doing that, i realized that it would be nice if i could remove the clock from the status bar, along with a few other icons.
anyone know of any flashable zips that are compatible with evo shift stock froyo that could remove some of these items? i know mikshift has some mods for things like this, but not sure if they'd work or not.
thanks!!!
EDIT: made a backup and flashed mikshift mod to remove clock/gps/adb icons from status bar and it did the trick!

Expresso Bar Skyrider

can someone post the expresso bar from skyrider. I downloaded it in rom manger, but it changes the lock screen, clock and the stauts bar. I just need the expresso bar only... please help???
I would like this also.
I'd like the expresso bar with the smooth sense icons, as of right now the only way for me to do this is to install one of the black notification bars from rom manager. This resets my rom again, and then I can add the smooth sense icons from recovery which works flawlessly.
Is there a way to install things from ROM manager without clearing everything? Or is it possible to backup my notification bar and application icons so I can easily add them to any deodexed ROM I flash?

you shouldn't have to wipe everything if you are using the same rom. A lot of the stuff from ROM Manager can be installed over your exsisting rom, just make sure you backup unless you want to go back.
I've tried it with espresso and the notification bars and its worked so far
so how do i get the expresso bar with the smooth sense icons, without it changing the clock and task bar. anytime i download the skyriader expresso theme it changes the expresso bar, htc clock, and status bar....? if someone knows how to do it and has a screen shot. it would be great to share it.

It doesn't get wiped if I do it through recovery, but when I installed the black notification bar with the green circle battery my ROM was reset again

If you downloaded it on rom manager the file should be on your sdcard in /clockworkmod/download/ or something like that.
If you don't want it to overwrite the other themes, just make it into a metamorph instead of flashing it with rom manager or recovery.

[Q] Best ROM to Use as a Starting Point

I recently got into flashing custom ROMS onto my Droid X. I have had it since launch and was rooted from the day the first root was released, rooted after the 2.2 OTA and recently, have gotten kinda bored of the same old launcher pro and got into looking at custom ROMs. Last night I successfully went through the process of flashing ZapX semi-blurless rom. I loved the speed and not having all the moto junk but have noticed that you can't necessarily use themes on blurless ROMs. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a good ROM or themed rom that I could manually remove bloatware or at the least a themed ZapX rom? Thanks for the help in advance!
rubix focused 0.5, period
Haven't tried zapX yet. I've run Rubix for a few days and it's been great. Just loaded Apex this morning, but haven't had time to 'run it through its' paces'.
As for themeing, if you are comfortable with editing the zip file for the theme, just remove the blur related APK's that have been removed from your system
May take a little investigative work to make sure you remove the right ones, but it's doable.
FYI, Fabolous (Apex) also released a version of his NexTheme for the Apex ROM and it looks pretty nice.
Thanks for the help! Im probably gonna use the RubiX ROM and mess around with the .zip
I have fabolous nextheme with teenfaces + bigdx (swype + multitouch) + removed blur related themed apks + win7font (probably from env theme) + vanilla lock screen mod
And I am loving it

One of these days you'll work up enough nerve to branch out and truly customize your device.
LMAO
so if i have a rom installed (the deodexed 2.2 OTA that someone released), and then I install another rom on top of it, is it completely replaced?
whereas if i install 1 theme on top of another, they coexist?
also, themes can only go on top of roms that are deodexed, correct?

The way I understand is that the theme only replaces portions of the ROM that realate to the visuals. It leaves the meat of the ROM applying to it operating intact. Correct me if im wrong.

Yes & no. Themes generally only replace certain files, but many times those files are certain application APK's. And the theme may ADD apk's that you didn't have (ie, you have a blur-less ROM, and put on a theme that includes blur stuff).
If two themes don't change/replace the same file, then yes portions may co-exist.
Not all ROM installations are completely wiping /system. Some of them only replace the portions of /system that have been modified. Thus, you could theoretically get some intermixing of two ROMS as well.

if im getting ready to go from an OTA 2.2 rooted w/ build.prop mods and bloatware frozen; what would you suggest doing to retain a list or backup of my current aps to know what i want when i get back up and running after flashing to rubix blurry? appbrain sync be sufficient?
also, syncing contacts/etc possible via backup assistant; or is that removed as well (or down-loadable in the market)?
im looking to get back to where i am now widget, app, contacts, etc wise after getting back up with the least problems due to no syncing or having to write everything down.

Appbrain will certainly work for creating/maintaining a list of your current apps.
The Froyo Market app, however, also does this if you have your google account set to backup. When I re-flash (way more than I would like to admit ), first time I sign into my google account, and go into market, it starts downloading (a very long list!) of apps that I had.
Note that this will just get your apps/widgets installed. Any data/settings/screen layouts will need to be re-created. I've not found a good way to restore this yet. While there are some programs (titanium) that will do this, it's been known to create problems.
As for contacts, I have both an exchange and g-mail accounts. My contacts are automatically synced there. If you put all of your contacts on your google account, they should sync as soon as you sign in.
I don't know much about 'offline' methods of contact syncing.
For starters I would go with 928 Black Glass

As long as you don't use Titanium to restore anything for /system it works fine. that is where the problems all come from as people restore /system things from an old build that does not work on there new build.
IMO the best way to restore apps if you want all your data settings back is to use My Backup Pro.

I downloaded Rosie Settings Mod zip from MikFroyo thread and looked into the package, it looked like the modded APKs are com.htc.resources and Rosie, and of course the Rosie Settings APK.
I am on 1.7.7 with personally modified APKs and Framework PNG files, so I simply replaced above APKs with the modded ones and flashed it. At the first boot, it worked fine including the option to change the left and right Rosie buttons, but when I changed the right button to Dolphin HD and opened the browser, my phone just rebooted and got stuck at splash screen. I then pulled the battery and re-flashed the zip, ever since it's working fine. Not sure what caused the crash at the first boot...
Edit: I found a strange behavior. It works fine after flashing the zip, but whenever I reboot it gets stuck at the splash screen. Removed the file for now.

Having said that, below link contains Rosie Setting mod with the original resource.com.apk and Rosie.apk (except for the buttons of course...) from EViO 1.8 for anyone who wants to try.

Please let me know whether or not it works.
P.S. Please do a nand backup first as I don't wanna be responsible for any troubles. Also, the zip is not signed, so you might wanna change the toggle before flashing. Use at your own risk...

is this confirmed working? as in, did you actually add in the code to the apks to make it work, or are you just shooting in the dark here?

Like I described it worked with v1.7.7 with one crash at the first boot. Haven't tried with v1.8 yet.

wow, so you were just able to flash caulkin's rosie and resources, along with the settings, and then it would just work. that is pretty cool. somebody here should pm myn for details though. that app could be very helpful if we use it right.
Found a bit strange behavior. Every reboot it gets stuck at splash screen... It looks like the issue is in Dalvik-cache, as wiping Dalvik every time will boot correctly. File deleted for now.
i'll pm myn tomorrow, unless somebody else does it first. didnt riptide9 also port the rosiesettings to his theme? he might also be the person to ask.
I looked into the resources.apk file, but was not able to find the reason for the reboot issue. The dl link is up for anyone with more technical knowledge who can customize this for Calk's rom...

Couldn't/cant pm anybody tonight. It'll have to wait until morning or somebody else to do it. I reeeealy want this mod on caulkin's 1.7.7 (1.8 was too buggy for me)
Resurect, well a little one anyway.
I actually have this functioning at the moment, just moving over most of caulks assets, so it looks close to stock.
DONE!! Here's the thread!

[Q] Noob question

ok so i am S off and installed my first ROM last night. "InsertCoin Sense Android 2.3.4 STABLE 2.1" I love it. the only thing is how do I get the quick settings menu that is in the screen shots, is that a MOD or did i do something wrong? I did try a search but came up with nothing.
The quick settings menu is in the notification bar. If you are talking about the one in the 2nd post, it's a flashable zip
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
i installed Ginger Thyparancy - Edition V1.0 but still no joy. if i am reading it right everything else is for earlyer versions of the ROM
When you pull down the notification shade, what does it look like? Do you see any tabs at the bottom/recent apps at the top? Some ROMs have you install flashable zips (from recovery) to add/remove extra features/applications.
the notification shade has the notification tab and quick settings. the quick settings are the same as they were before i installed the ROM.

Check out the second post here:

You have to download and install "Add Extended Quick Settings...". They have six different versions listed so you'll have to pick one you prefer. I assume these would be flashed in recovery, but as always do a nandroid backup if you have anything to lose.
Awesome thank you it worked! i guess that i should have looked for a Ginger Thyparancy thread...
No problem. Happy flashing!

Changing network icons to default att icons

The rom I am using is the odex jellybean sense 4+ rom found on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055490 . What I am trying to do is somehow change the network icons to the default att has that always shows the network type "4g,lte, etc" instead of only showing it when mobile data is on and using it. I tried making my own flashable zip and I extracted the systemui.apk from a backup of my phone with the icons the way I wanted but after flashing the status bar was completely gone and said it crashed constantly so I restored to another backup. I did search for this and I couldn't find any thread discussing exactly this. Any help/suggestions is appreciated.
