Anyone know of a combination of wireless IP camera (with night vision) and an android app so I can use my Xoom as a baby monitor? If the IP camera feeds to the web and that's available in the web browser, that would work too (in fact, even better if I can serve video to relatives).
Just Google it. There are tons of camera setups like that out there for web access viewing and some android apps that can connect (not sure about xoom compatability with the apps though). Good luck.

Thanks for that helpful suggestion. I Googled it and am still looking. Anyone have a suggestion for a security camera that I can pick up on the xoom?
D-Link
Linksys
Trendnet
Intellinet
Manhattan
Just to name a few with IP based cameras that are viewable via android app.
Or just walk into any Fry's, Best Buy, or other big electronics box store and look at their IP cameras.

Thanks, but I'm not asking for help using google. I'm asking if anyone has a specific suggestion for a system they've used. I have so far not had any luck, and was hoping someone could suggest something that works well, possibly with pros and cons of their experience.

Some advice, be clear in your OP what you are asking for because what I thought you wanted was a list of suggestions.
My personal experience is based on a "all in one" boxed system that included a DVR with 4 cameras. The cameras are all Color/IR. There is an android app that allows me to view them. It wasn't wireless but if you think about it.. neither is a wireless IP camera you still need power and the camera needs to be mounted. Ideally, you would mount the camera up in the corner of the room and we know there isn't power there so I would just go with a wired setup that includes everything you need out of the box because its less confusion and less hassle.
If you want a wireless IP system I cannot contribute to this thread any further than I already have. D-Link and Linksys make good consumer great IP cameras that will more than likely do what you want, you just have to research them.

Sure, then in your further clarification you made a request for personal experience and I shared with you what I had. The name of the app you are looking for is called IP Cam Viewer and is compatible with like a hundred +++ different types of camera systems. If you can find a camera on his list of devices then you've got a sure fire winner. Worst case scenario is that you would have to return something once or twice. His app has a free version with ads and a version for like 5 bucks thats probably worth getting rid of the ads.
Man, some people here are real jerks. I happen to have been looking into this exact thing just a couple weeks ago.
For the price this is the best Wireless Camera choice:
http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-FI8918W-Wireless-Camera-Viewing/dp/B0046710G6
And it has pan and tilt controls which I think is pretty cool.
As for an app there are a couple choices out there, and I haven't narrowed it down yet, because I wont need this setup till late August, and I am waiting for the best option, but search the Android Market for Foscam compatible apps.
https://market.android.com/search?q=foscam&so=1&c=apps
Hope this helps!
Yeah, I'm such a jerk for trying to help this guy out. I should have known instantly what to post the first time.
We use a d link dcs932. It works great. The app is not really tablet friendly, but it works. You have to launch it in portrait, full screen viewing will then go into landscape. I use my galaxy tab 10.1 with honeycomb 3.1. On my atrix it forces portrait, but on my tab it fc's when you try to lau ch it in landscape. Got it at tiger direct for 99.99. Hope this helps.
Ip cam viewer all the way, regardless of what cam you go for!
Something like 600+ supported devices, local record facility on the xoom as well, bi directional audio with supported devices.
I use it daily with multiple devices from multiple locations and recommend it to customers all the time

i swear there are like 4 threads on this already in General. /sigh.
i have been digging deeper and had seen some... i just need to contact verizon to let them know which phone to send me since they are taking thinderbolt back. i played with the phones at verizon and this one after the update seems better. I am not sure.. the gps seems much better and locked on quick the phone seemed less laggy what do you guys know about the lg revolution
i know netflix does wotn on LG Revolution. If that's your make it or break it deal, then you need to get LG Revolution. No one really knows when 2.3 will release on the Charge. What we know now is really just speculation.
I hope you don't want to hook up the HDMI to your tv to watch rented or downloaded movies. I've tried doing that from both mediahub and blockbuster and it wont let you. The screen says it's a rights issue. When I bought the phone no one said anything about that.

I have an official HTC HML Adapter but the first TV I used with HDMI did not work.
It is an old Sanyo with only 1 HDMI Port.
The adapter says HTC EVO 3D and Sensation
The TV out on the same TV works instantly with the Zune RCA (Red-Yellow-White) adapter.
I will try a 27" Asus monitor with 2 HDMI inputs later.
Has anyone had success with their MT4GS and this adapter?
EDIT: No Good with Asus Monitor on either HDMI port.
I have a CECHA01 (750GB) PS3 that was updated to 3.60 with my knowledge. (I'll keep that anger away from this thread)
I will test the DLNA Media Server functionality of the PS3 if someone has not done so?
This is bad news that there is no MHL funcionality. NOT the same as Sensataion! I will have to sell this to one of my friends with Sensation that are running their fancy Custom ROMs while I sit and rot on Stock for the time! Perhaps I have a bad unit right out of the box? It's possible, but I doubt it?
Everyone is waiting your further report.

Quoted for truth.
I believe we've already confirmed that the MT4GS, out of the box at least, does not support MHL. can't remember the thread where it was being discussed.
it would seem that it could be possible if you take into account the fact that the innards are the same as the Sensation and E3D, but we might have to dig to get it going. also, apparently some of the early demos of the MT4GS showed off MHL alongside the Sensation which leads me to believe we just need some small tweaks to get it working on the retail units.

This leads me to believe we need to donate to some devs to get this device in their hands. I am sick of checking the development thread to see if a there is a ROM available.
Every other device I have had, I always checked to see what was new for flashing. I think the that the timing of the Sensation and MT4GS may be one of the causes of the lack of development
What can you do....just wait and see. I have chose to wait vs getting the Sensation, which has not been easy as I have unlocked and flashed everyone in my area who has bought one, while I choose the joystick over screen res?
How much longer will this painful wait be?
Sorry for the rant.
Stock rom does not do TV out at all if you remove the TVOut apk.
Thus it follows that MHL will not work unless the correct MHL apk is present.
I would imagine the next course of action is to determine if the sensation rom contains such an apk while the mytouch does not.
Anyone have a sensation they can look at for us?

I think we're moving along nicely... less than a month since the device's official release and we have perm root & s-off already. rom development will take time. if you're aching for some changes, just head over to the UOT kitchen and have some fun there.
Just purchase a camcorder av cable. You can do tv out that way. Plus its cheaper and quality is the same as a mhl.

Well, since you are off the hook for the moment:
Does it require specific hardware to operate, or is it just code that matters?
I understand it's not supposed to matter for the connection itself - so using the MicroUSB would work on any device that had it - but is there any hardware that needs to be present within the device itself to make it work?
I think that's what I got from this before - but didn't verify anything or look into it too deeply because of the tv-out over 3.5mm and just wrote it off.
If it does require hardware support to function in some context, maybe we can see if we actually have that hardware in the device before you spend money again.
Or do you not care and just wanna buy and try? Fine either way - just curious?
Well, the seller stated its compatible for a reason, but might be an error on his side. Also im back at my money, so ill look into this more thoroughly, looking at local stores converters and their compatibility.
But yes, if someone could verify hw specification with htc or tmo that would save time.and yes it needs hw imho.

http://ifixsmartphone.com/iphone_repair/MyTouch_4G_Slide_teardown.html
That links to the only known public teardown of this device - it's showing how to replace part of the screen, but you have to take the whole device apart to get to that and pictures were taken at each step.
If we can determine that there is specific hardware needed and what it is, so far this is our best chance to see if it's physically there. (possibly?)
If any other public teardowns are found, definitely post here - and if anyone knows what hardware MHL requires the device to have please post it here so we can look into this.
Don't have the time to look too deep into this tonight, but i'll definitely post anything relevant I can find towards determining whether it's possible or not.
----
I just might buy that teardown found here:
http://www.abiresearch.com/research/1009325-HTC+MYTOUCH-4G-SLIDE+phone+teardown
...that _atlien_ posted about here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17482235&postcount=2
I've gone to that page probably once every 2 or 3 weeks since it was posted and thought about buying it, maybe next time but every time I get closer to going for it.
----
That aside though, any public resources along these lines anyone has found would be appreciated. I think the idea that it needs hardware makes sense or any device could just do it with the right code - but not sure and could be wrong. We need a conclusive determination on this.
well, ive found a local store with mhl stuff, i think these are pretty much the same converters. Going to give it a spin with the Sensation based rom and stock.

Looks like the ds kernel doesnt have a driver for it. Im gonna try to merge a driver to see if its a dormant part or theres no such hw in ds at all.

ok. i think MHL is a not going to work, looking and digging for it.
The chip is called 'sii9234' that sensation and shooter (evo3d) seems to have by default in the kernel. Looking for this chip on google related to our device I see nothing relevant...
there would be no sane reason to not include the driver if the chip is on board, that would be like worsening the market position of it. So i wont buy this cable, till someone can confirm that the sii9234 mhl chip is on the board.
I have searched and could no get a clear answer on this subject.
I have read that Inspire 4G can support USB host but the kernal has to implement it.
I looked at this thread, [USB Host] on the Desire HD showing prosmising results, as I know DHD and Inspire are very similar.
I just want USB host on my Inspire 4G to run DSLR Controller to use on my canon T3i.
I want to know if its possible to put an Inspire 4G into USB host mode today and if so how would I do so?
Thanks!!

you created a thread that has no information but the topic of usb hosting, then u linked to a thread that has the information. fail.
(makes a thread about how to root phones and links to the how-to guide)
This thread has no information cause I am the one seeking the information on the subject.
The topic is "USB host on Inspire 4G?", as in I have a question regarding USB host on the Inspire 4G.
I simply ask a question on if USB host is already implemented or if there is current progress.
the first link you posted DOES show how to do it. you will of course lose the client mode as a result because dual mode is not supported. meaning you cant tether, and you cant transfer files or mount the sd card on a computer. but yes after reading the forum you can do it. make sure u do a nandroid backup and give it a shot. worst case you reinstall your rom.
Well I dont use tether mode that much and I do have a card reader to transfer files to a computer.
I will read all the post to see what need's to be done.
Thank you for your input.
You would need to do one of two things. One build your own kernel with this implemented or two have one of the kernel makers add it. Your best bet maybe to do it yourself as few are willing to trade off a useful feature for one few will use.
Well option one is out has I have no ideal how to make kenels.
This should be cooked in with all roms, why has it not been a standard for newer roms? It's just like tethering mode, few people use that.
I am one of the ones who has very little need for tethering.
USB host everyone could benefit from. Plug in a keyboard, HDD, Thumb drive, Card reader, and of course use for remote shutter for dslr's.
What would be great is to have a manual switch between the USB modes, just like what you can do with tethering. There is an app for that on the market called USB HOST CONTROLLER. It's for HTC phones (G1, Nexus One, Desire, Incredible).
Alot of useful information found here:SztupY's Android pages. Not anyway for our phones but the concept is there.
I would pay someone to implement this to the phone.
Yes I am inviting a smart developer to make head way on this and I will glady donate.
double post deleted
Your best bet is to ask the developer of the kernel you use to make a version with this built in. Most kernels don't use it due to far more people use the mass storage option on their phones then having to shut the phone down, remove any case they have, pull the SD card, grab an adapter or card reader and then make the changes.
I don't use teatherimg either but it is built in by default. I use mass storage far more.
