[Q] Nexus S broken sim reader pins - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short I was taking my sim card out and I broke 2 pins on the top. I got quoted $100 for a new sim card reader which is a little too much. I was wondering if there is a cheap fix available.
Thanks.

In Italy someone has got it repaired under warranty. It often happens when using microsim with adapters.
I can't help you anyway, sorry.

[Q] Crazy, but antempting sim repair for the heck of it...and questions

So, I got a Samsung Infuse. Super duper cheap. I bought it knowing there was an issue--the last owner ripped the sim card out and tore off four of the pins on the sim tray. So I unsoldered the top of the sim tray (the metal sleeve), and added solder to the broken pins to try to get the sim card to get contact.
Well, no good so far. The phone won't see my AT&T sim card. When I boot the phone, I just try to hold the sim card pressed firmly against the tray---but no luck so far.
I was wondering, though--what is the purpose of the other row of pins (circled in the photo in red)? They don't seem to be connecting to anything...and what about the other two pins (circled in blue)? I notice when I short them, the phone reboots.
Can anyone else here take a peek at their Infuse and tell me if there's some other issue with the other pins? I'm trying to figure out why they're there.

Hi Evan,
When you insert the Micro SD card it shorts out those 2 pins together. As far as repairing the SIM/MicroSD holder, there is no repair for it. the SIM/MicroSD holder needs to be replaced. I have the same problem and as of yet i haven't found any one who sales just the SIM/MicroSD holder. If you were successful, pls let me know. I am in need of one.
Thanks
Hi. Did you guys ever find a solution for this? Or somewhere that could sell the tray itself? Because like a retard I actually tore off a pin with a SIM adapter and now it won't work anymore....
Thanks!
they do sell samsung infuse housing for sim and sd card at ebay.
Hi. I have the same problem. I found that they do sell housing replacement for sim for about 5$ at eBay. I don't have soldering skill so if you are successful, would you mind post picture instruction steps?
Thanks

Not sure which sub forum this was most appropriate, so I'm trying here

Does anyone know where I can get that board as a replacement part? or if there is ANY way to fix the prongs?

Broken Sim card holder

Guys, I know someone had this problem before but I could find any resolution so I thought I'd ask if anyone has any ideas.
I bought an inFuse new off ebay. Unlocked it and have used it with Miui for about 4 months. Wonderful phone. Then did a real stupid thing. I inserted a micro Sim in a holder to test it. It worked but on trying to remove it the Sim slipped out of the holder and the holder must have pulled out one or more of the pins under the metal sheath. Now all I get is No Sim Inserted. I bent back the pins that were bent at the front and I can see 3 which now look OK. The back ones seem to show only one. I'm guessing there should be three.
I checked on line and eBay to see if it is possible to get a replacement module but seems like no. Also every Samsung phone seems to use a different module.
I'm screwed I guess. Anyone had this problem and solved it? Obviously I never bought it through AT&T so I can't try for a warranty repair. Any ideas gratefully accepted.
Thanks
looks like you will be doing sugery get your tools out and a magnifying glass!!
I had the same issue, and carefully bent the pins up like --/ then pushed my sim against the pins and into the holder so that it bent them back and made good contact with my sim. This held for a while until I tried to put a different sim in and then it no longer was making good contact. Jammed a tiny piece of paper behind my sim and it held until my replacement came in.
Hope that helps!
Also if anyone ever needs to do a warranty replacement on this issue I suggest you skip all the bull**** about the sim and tell them the damn thing wont boot. I went through so many ATT warranty morons and they always blame the sim card before defaulting to "its damaged and we cant cover it". Brick it!
Did u register the phone on Samsung.com ? It happen to me also that same stupid thing so I send it back to samsung and they fix it for free of course I was whit out a phone for like 2 weeks since I didn't have a back up phone lol

Do any of the other Samsung phones have this issue?
Guys, thanks for the replys. Yea back to samsung seems to be the only answer. I didn't rgister it but Ill try to do it now.
Not sure if other Samsung phones have this problem. I've looked at a bunch of replacement sim holders for other Samsungs and they all seem to be a better construction. The metal cover is much smaller and shows both rows of contacts. Also the pins look sturdier and look like it would be darn hard for them to get "picked up" but the sim adapter. The sim holder in the inFuse looks like a pretty poor design.
Did you buy it new? If you got it used maybe att will still swap it out. The warranty transfers.
Guys,
just an update on the broken sim card holder. Well unlike most other Samsung phones, the simcard holder is not a separate component on the infuse. Had the infuse been a Galaxy S etc then 10 bucks for a new bit and bingo, we are away. The infuse has everything surface mounted to one motherboard. In the end I bought a broken screen infuse and just did a heart transplant. I was traveling overseas when I bust the card holder and Samsung in 2 countries couldn't fix it because they didn't have the bits as the phone wasn't sold in those countries. In the end rather than return the phone to Samsung in the US and "lose" it for Lord knows how long I just bought a scrapper off ebay. Took me about 30 minutes to do the swop and unlock the new board.
Working like a dream again and I must say I missed it........
Happened to me a while back and I made a thread on it. was able to just swap it out at a warranty center

[Q] Broken or bended SIM reader pins.

Hi. I used a sim adapter with a mini sim card from another phone for some testing. The adapter was so cheaply made, that it broke inside the reader while i was pulling it out.
The card is OK but now the phone cannot read any sim card. I removed the paper sticker from the top of the reader and it looks like one pin is missing or bend. Does the top metal part of the reader come off? Is this part available anywhere? Thanks.
I removed the sim card reader and 3 pins are broken. I think by the looks this one for Blackberry is the same. If not i have to locate a broken XT720 to swap the upper boards that hold the card readers.
Phone is back in service. I didn't buy the SIM card reader, instead i got a broken XT720 for cheap from Ebay, replaced the small Sim-micro Sd card reader board and SIM was recognized. Plus i got some spare parts now just in case.

Any micro sim card reader/tray compatible with iOCEAN X7 Elite?

Hello all
I recieved my new iOCEAN X7 Elite from China today.
I went to the shop to buy a SIM card and was given the wrong card (Nano SIM). When I went back to the shop they gave me an adapter to make it into either a Micro SIM or a standard SIM. The adapter broke my Micro SIM slot. One of the pins has snapped off and is inside the phone case somewhere (it rattles if I shake it but won't fall out). It also damaged my standard SIM slot by bending a pin, but I have pushed it back into place and although it's not how it was originally it still functions.
I've looked online at aliexpress, taobao, ebay, and other sites for a replacement SIM card reader/slot for this phone. All I've found are replacements for the popular Samsung/Nokia/iPhone phones and nothing for my phone.
Does anyone know a replacement part that is compatible with my phone? I can live without the Micro SIM slot to be honest but it would be useful to use two SIMs, and just the idea that I received this phone today and a major function is not working within a few hours, is not good.
