I've just charged my phone for the first time since flashing Clockwork recovery, the latest version with the blue text.
The phone was completely powered off, no fast boot.
It was orange when charging, then it went green like it should, I was busy and left it like that powered off, plugged in and green.
I now notice it is flashing orange/green/off/orange/green/off repeatedly. Does this mean anything?

Yes. I didn't touch the phone at all, it was orange during charging whilst powered off, then went green. Stayed green for a while. Then started doing the light sequence mentioned above.

I'd be inclined to unplug it from the charger and see what the light does.
Check the charge reading with the phone's built in utility as well.
I take it you're still running the stock battery?
Maybe the battery's bad?
That may sound like obvious advice, but you have to rule out the obvious first.
having the exact same problem as thread starter. when charging with the phone completely off, fastboot off
Anyone got an idea?

Hey all, got a bit of an odd issue with charging whilst phone is switched off.
when i plug it in, the orange light comes on, but then after a few seconds it goes off. i can sometimes see a faint red glow in the trackpad, and others the camera flash LED's even flash, 1, 2 or sometimes 3 times.
im not really sure if its charging, it doenst seem to be.
Charges fine when on. OR when off with "Fast boot" enabled (i usualy have that off).
im running latest CWM Recovery from rom manager. 5.0.2.7 from RM 4.8.0.2
Rom wise im using Undead's Senseless v3.7.1
Rooted and S-OFF using Revolutionary.
Any thoughts?
TIA.
Ross.
I think its normal. Mine has done that too an.d charged

Try rebooting the phone again and then shut it down. Now wait almost a minute before plugging in the charger. If fastboot is unchecked and I plug in the charger too fast after turning off the phone, I get that issue too sometimes. Waiting a little longer before plugging in seems to do it for me.
i'm pretty sure this is a ClockworkMod issue, and each new release was supposed to fix it, but i guess not? i'm 99% sure when i briefly rolled back to unrooted stock, this issue wasn't there. and even with the issue, i believe the battery charges, regardless of what the light is doing?

It's definitely a ClockworkMod issue and you're right every Recovery Release to date has had it's problem in the charging department with the phone off and fastboot unchecked.
On the latest OFFICIAL release (v5.0.2.7)though, the steps in my previous post seem to help. If fastboot is unchecked and you turn the phone off, just wait a really long pause before plugging in the charger and it may blink once but then the orange charging light will come on and stay on and will turn green when charged like it's supposed to. It also doesn't freeze the phone up like the first Revolutionary Recovery we had.
This has been my experience with Official CWM Recovery v5.0.2.7 while leaving fastboot unchecked. I hope it helps.
Cool, will do that. Gotta finally upgrade from CWM 4.0.0.9 I guess
Thanks for the replies. ive tried switching off, and leaving for a while, and then plugging in. Orange light came on, but after about 5 mins it went off. i tried switching it back on again but had to unplug charger before it would power on. i then just charged normally as battery was low and didnt want to risk being unable to charge.
ive just reflashed 5.0.2.7 and will test again soon incase there was something wrong there.
battery was completely full this morning at 7am. and even just with phone sat there idle, only got just over 8 hours out of it and it was down to 24%. so now also wondering if there is some other issue with the rom or recovery. seems to be pulling between 250 and 500ma even with screen off. (using current widget)
will see what happens and report back.
Just a quick update. switched off, and plugged in again. light blinked twice and went off. but could faintly see trackpad flashing. tried to take picture, and obviouslt its the IR LED inside flashing. see attached.
then 10 mins later, orange charge light has finally come on. and trackpad stopped flashing. Lets see if it charges!
weird things going on with this phone! lol.
Hello.
I have a problem.
The battery discharged and phone turns off.
I pluged wall charger and orange led blinking (about 20minutes now).
I just try to remove and reinsert battery, with no luck.
The phone won't turn on and orange led still blinking.
It's oryginal htc sensation battery, and have about half year.
Any help???
Maybe it's extremely drained, leave it on charge a bit more.

I´ve got this as well. You can fully charge your phone until the LED becomes green, and it wont start either.
Just pull out the accu after you charged it a bit and insert it again. Plugin the AC and start the Sensa as allways.
But now you will probably recorgnise, that your accu percentage is different to the infomation in power-menu...
If you have CWM on the phone it won't charge when fully drained - hence the flashing orange LED
You need to either use a separate battery charger OR (and this is what I did):
1. Remove the battery
2. Cut a strip of a fabric plaster (bandaid) and use it to cover the middle 2 contacts on the battery, making sure to leave to 2 outer ones free
3. Put it back in the phone
4. Put the phone on charge for 30 minutes
This should give it enough charge to boot up so remove the strip and turn the phone back on. Assuming it boots up, put it on charge until fully charged

Yep, I think also about this but.
"Charged" about 3hrs. Orange led was still blinking also.
So I remove the battery and try to boot in recovery.
It's incredible, phone enters into CWM!
I did the battery wipe, and restart the phone.
And it works! Phone boot up, and battery still charging from about hour now!
Are not the two centre contacts on the battery for the temperature sensor?
Covering these up on a faulty battery could be dangerous.
John.
It's just to get charge to be able to boot the unit, once you can boot it you remove the strip and the battery goes back to normal function. Trust me, I had to do it and it works!
Yes, I would do it myself to get my phone working, but it`s best to warn people to be careful.

Hello again,
The problem returns.
Sometimes I allow the battery to be discharged and the phone turned off.
What do you think? Problem is with any power management in the phone or battery?
I don't have second battery to test it now

This has just happened to me - battery drained overnight. I had plugged it in to charge before I went to bed but I must have knocked it free. Result is a completely dead phone that will not power on even if plugged in. Flashing orange light as described. Soooo....I cut a strip of plastic, covered the middle pins and put on charge. However I have a question....should there be any charge light with this middle pins covered up set-up
Thanks
When your phone runs out of charge it needs a sufficient amount of charge to even turn on
I get the blinking led all the time after my phone shuts down due to low battery.
Just let it blink and after 15 min or so it should become solid.

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have an Idea what fast blinking amber light means on DS?
My battery was low around 2% and I connected it to the stock charger and started watching a movie, after 10 mins or so my phone switched off and amber colored light started to flash, I am not able to switch it on now and after 30 mins or so even the blinking light went off.
Had Aplha CM10 ROM flashed and was working normally till now keeping my fingers crossed that it is not bricked. Please tell me it is not:crying:
EDIT:
Solved: Finally revived my phone by directly charging the battery from the USB port of my laptop. Seems the battery went too flat to charge itself in the phone.

Did it start charging when you connected the charger? when the desire S has no battery at all, and you connect the power, the light blinks, meaning that it hasn't got enough power to boot
So just make sure the charger works and leave it charging for a couple of minutes untill you get the classic charging LED on, and then try to boot again

Thanks TataoValverde, so I guess it is not bricked. I had left the phone connected to the charger overnight but still it doesn't boot so it means it is not charging. Now nothing happens not even blinking light
So is there anyway i can revive it??
Make sure the battery is making connection - use a piece of paper to hold it firmly in place if necessary.
Try a different charger - any USB one should be fine.
Or buy a new battery as its much cheaper than a new phone.
If the charging circuitry on the phone is screwed then there is nothing you can really do unless you fancy changing the main board.
On Monday night I used the Juopunut bear S-OFF method successfully and then installed ClockworkMod Recovery and Cyanogen Mod 10. It was working like a dream I absolutely loved it. I restarted it many times etc and it worked completely fine, I had zero issues. However last night, I turned the phone off and then plugged it in to charge. When I woke up this morning I cannot turn it on, no matter what I do. When I plug it in to the charger the orange light turns on for about 1 second and then turns off. Is my phone bricked? Is my battery dead? Thanks in advance

It works!
After letting it charge for about 20min while the orange led blinked on and off every second I unplugged it, held down the power button, and the beautiful HTC logo illuminated across my screen. I'm now up and running and the device is charging. I'm very glad I didn't buy a new battery for $40. I'm hoping this will never happen again but if it does I won't be alarmed. If anyone out there is having a similar issue do not fret!
Problems with HTC Sensation
My HTC Sensation has become unusable due to faults that have recently developed. I sent it off to HTC but apparently it has 'water damage' even though I've always been incredibly careful with it and never dropped it in a puddle or anything.
I'm new to this website so I'm not sure how to go about getting advice.
If someone could help me on how to get some answers it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
I dropped my mobile in water, dried it with hair dryer left it fir a week and then it started again.

Hello,
So I was playing around flashing roms from here last night, and I was able to load up a rom that I liked, and get it configured to my liking. I noticed while doing that the phone started to get really hot. I didn't think anything of it, and left it on the charger and went to bed. This morning I woke up and the phone has a blinking red light. I did some Googling and it said that it was a completely drained battery. So I put it back on the charger and now the phone was able to boot back up, it says charging, but it is just at 0% and it doesn't seem to go anywhere from there (plugged in via computer) any ideas?

Yeah that's strange behavior. My dad was playing a game on his N7 which was hooked up to his PC when it suddenly died.
Scared the hell out of him, turned out it hadn't been charging through USB for some reason, or maybe not enough.
Weird about last night. Maybe it wasn't plugged in completely. Have you tried the same socket? Maybe it's dead.

The computer charges android devices really slowly. When you're playing a game, it will drain faster than it charges, especially if you charge it by a PC/Mac and not a main power source

Dnt worry this indicates that your phonr is just on the verge of its battery
just keep plugged in in for few minutes
now the light will stop blinking and you will get the battery level icon on your screen

Is the led still blinking after 1.5 hours on the charger? Maybe try a more powerful charger? Different USB cable?
The USB cable and charger that came with the phone is what I would start with to charge the phone.

Just had the same problem after not charging the phone for 10 months (broke while I was travelling). Just got it working after I ordered and installed a screen replacement from Alibaba. Needed to try 3 different USB Cables.
Maybe just a different USB cable would have solved the problem?
Charging via a computer is the last thing to do. The output is so low.
Hi guys,
I'm having the same problem. My phone has been charging for about twelve hours now and it still won't turn on. I tried using different outlets, but not a different charger since I only have one (original one) and my friends phone did charge with that charger. I also tried pressing the power- and volume button at the same time, but still nothing. Everytime I take my phone out of the charger and plug it in again, the red light starts blinking for a while but then it dies off and nothing happens anymore. Does anyone have anymore tips?
Thanks
Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced or you need a more powerful charger.
i've got this problem except anytime a charging cable is connected, the phone powers on and off continually as if the power button is stuck. tried swapping batteries with a spare n5 i have with a cracked screen and bad IMEI (lousy ebay purchase), made no difference. same thing occurs even with battery disconnected. there's no way to boot into recovery. the red LED blinks when the phone powers off momentarily. tried various cables to charge, multiple locations. any ideas?
Saved me!!
Saved my nexus 5, i love this phone and don't want to lose it even after three years passed way!
thankyou brother you nailed it.
