[Q] WPA_Supplicant Adhoc mod - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I've recently bought one of these Chinese Flytouch3 clone type tablets & gotta say it's not bad at all. The only problem being the lack of mobile connectivity.
I was about to try using the modified WPA_Supplicant file when I discovered that there is already a file called WPA_Supplicant.adhoc already in the system/bin folder as well as a file called WPA_cli.adhoc.
I renamed the standard files to .old & then removed the .adhoc file extensions and lo & behold I can now see & connect to my touch pro 2 that is running xda wifi router.
HOWEVER I have no internet access
The tablet see's the xda router & connects to it, the phone shows that it has a connection from the tablet but thats it I can't get any further.
Tablet is running android 2.2 & with the new WPA_Supplicant.adhoc file in use I can still access my home wifi network.

OK scratch that, after a few connect & disconnects all is working fine.
Tablet is logging on to the xda wifi on the phone and internet access is actually a good speed, seems slightly quicker than on the phone itself actually?
Only thing I have to do is manually reconnect each time, can't get the tablet to remember the wep password & auto connect but thats hardly a biggy.
Maybe others could have a look to see if WPA_Supplicant.adhoc already exists in there devices also?
Also anyone know what the WPA_cli file is for?

Apple Mac and HD2

I can't seem to able to connect the HD2 to my MacBook Pro, other than as a external HD drive. Which is fine for exchanging files, an dI don't need Activesync or the Vista version. But I do want to use it as a modem. Either via Bluetooth, a cable or as Wif Router. And though I am usually quite handy with these kind of things, I can't get any of them to work. So hopefully someone has made it to work, and can let me know the tricks?
Same problem here, but I'm able to connect to my SD card. What I do is to put all the update file in to SD card and run it.
Hello,
You should find in the programs on your HD2 one called Wifi Router.
Running it, you will be able to choose a name for your network and choose the key (WEP only)
Than from your Mac by clicking on the Airport icon, you should see your newly created network under "Devices". Just connect to it with the WEP key you determined and there you go !
WifI router is a great application. Working fine on a MS machine (XP, Vista). But it;s not stable with my Macbook/Apple. It's hard to get an connection (even find it), and only connects for a short time. I have not been able to get one biy in to webbrowser or mail. It just disconnects and says no internet connection...
Sorry to hear that =(
Using it on 2 Macbooks without any issues (stable and fast connection)
Works fine for me sorry! Submit it to HTC see what they say...
Same problem here between my new HD2 and macbook pro... Unable to connect to internet using Bluetooth/USB connection. WiFi router connect but internet connection don't work. Any solution?
PS : sharing files via USB or bluetooth is possible.
Looks like it is something of the new generation Macbook. Before I bought the apple, i was able to test it in an apple shop. It worked (Wifi Router)! As I said: no USB connection, no BT connection and not via WiFi Router. However it does work as an external Harddisk. It should be the settings in the Macbook to make Wi-Fi Router work! It connects (now and again, but not stable) But no internet according to Safari (for you guys/girls whom still own a dinosaur: that's the browser..). Settings of Macbook Pro???
I'm currently trying to find a way.
There is a software called "USBModem" from Mobile Stream that allow Windows Mobile USB and bluetooth connexion for Mac users.
I'm working actually with support team (very reactive!) for HD2 to be compatible with this software.
Hope they will be abble to make something great
Unfortunately, Mobile Stream Team can't make anything for HD2<=>Mac USB connexion
If somebody has a solution...
I started the thread, may be I can end it. Strangely enough, outside of my home Wifi area, I can get the connection between HD2's Wifi router and my Macbook. At home, somehow my HD2 tries to contact at the same the home network, and therefore does not get a stable connection with my Apple. So it's great: outside it works, inside I have a network and no need for tethering...

[Q] SSH Droid used on a rooted DHD does not work anymore

Hello there!
Thanks to the many useful threads on this forum, I successfully rooted my Desire HD and implemented ad-hoc Wi-Fi support (in order to control my AR-Drone).
Everything went well so far, since I can connect to "non ad-hoc" networks as well as ad-hoc ones.
But I find myself stuck with a problem which I do not know where to start to try and solve it.
See, I think this has to do with the wpa_supplicant (and not wpa_supplicant.conf) file I modified using >this one<, which is the one that allowed me to detect ad-hoc networks.
I used the recent one (the "-v2" file in the thread) and since ad-hoc works fine now, I assume it has been successfully placed into the /system/bin directory.
The problem is, before this manipulation I could SSH my DHD using the very useful SSHDroid, but now, I just can't connect to my phone using SSH anymore, and I do not get why since I can connect from my phone to the Internet using my home's Wi-Fi network, and SSHDroid does not monitor anything wrong and seems to be correctly launching.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SSHDroid but the result is the same.
Where should I start to investigate?
Thanks a lot!

A510 NO internet connection

A510 connected to router, can easily access files stored on lan, but I can't open any webpage ("Webpage not available", same with gmail or facebook). If I conect my HTC Desire over wi-fi to the same network, internet surfing works without any problem. I also tried connect to other network, turn off - on tablet but nothing new.
I am sure that yesterday it worked ok, but after that was only using lan connection.
Last night I have rooted tablet (using simple method), installed SuperUser, then TitaniumBackup, Asphalt, GTA3 and Kineticalc (from mobilism) and at the end tried to use cifmanager (without any success). I do not know if anything there make something wrong.
What to do?

Now I made reset under settings and at first boot it asks to sign in to google but I can not do that since network connection is still not working
Ive tried a few apps that didnt connect properly after bieng on another network for some time, particularly apps that needed authentication like Dropsync, and I sorted it by having my tablet connect to the internet through my mobile data connection. I dont know if your HTC Desire has that, but on my Sensation I just started mobile data and wifi hotspot, connected my Tab to it and was able to get online with any app on the tab. When switching back the Tab to my home wifi, everything worked as it should.
Might be a dns reset issue, that the Tab is forced to do on connecting to another network, it has to, but I cant say for sure that this trick will help you..
Sincerely
Omnius

WiFi Direct Android device (Note 10.1) + Windows 7 computer.

I was searching for a quite long time, but I haven't found any satisfying answer. I want to send files between any device with WiFi Direct and computer. What I'm expecting?
For example - if I have two Note 10.1 - I can send / receive files without any wireless network - just between those devices.
I want to be able to send files between tablet and computer without using any network, any router. I don't want those devices to be connected into the same network. I want to send those files directly from device to device.
If I will need special WiFi card - please give me some hint.
If my expectation haven't been clearly explained - I will try once more.
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but you should check out 'WiFi File Explorer' in the Play Store. It sets up an IP address that you can access with any browser (Windows 7 computer or another tablet) and access your files. I do believe you have to have root, but I've used it with my GSIII and my computer and it works great for transfering files, managing files and deleting or renaming files/folders. fwiw
NVM, I just tried this with my note and you do have to be on a wireless network for this to work, sorry, not what you were looking for I guess.
WIDI has not been properly implemented yet in both android and hardware yet, some devices are certified but some are on older versions and there is no software out there yet to take advantage of it. (that I am aware of ).
Samsung have partially implemented it using allshare and allshare cast, neither will do what you want. I dont think this will be working properly until the Galaxy S4 or even 5.
hmm in theory its supported in android 4.x

have you tried this?

It's not exactly what I meant. I would like to know, if is there any possibility using WiFi Direct connect android device (with WiFi Direct Support) and Windows PC. If it's possible - what are the requirements?
i'm confused now, why would you want widi on a pc, surely you are always going to have a router to connect to and thus defeating the object.

Let's try imagine something. I have WiFi / Router in my house. But, not everywhere I have an access to WiFi network, and maybe someone don't want to give me an access to network, or I don't need this as it's not really necessary. Sometimes I could meet someone with computer and I would like to send something faster than via Bluetooth, faster than removing memory card and trying to put into someone's computer. Will you notice how complicated it could be?
Now I have decided to buy device with WiFi Direct and I would like to use it with different devices. I don't want to use WiFi / Wireless netowrks / using router, because I could do this years ago.

If you want to send files from device (a) to Device (b), either both need to be WIDI compatible or both need to be connected to the same wifi network, I cant see your problem really, this isn't rocket science mate.

It suppose to be simple. Not same WiFi network, just WiFi Direct compatibility. Question is, what to do, what to use, to make computer with Windows 7 make compatible with WiFi Direct.

From what you described it's exactly what you said, using wifip2p to transfer files between 2 adhoc devices.
The libraries do just that on the android side of things,
If you want something else then I'm sorry but you need to be a bit clearer.

Hi I actually struggle to explore Wifi direct between my note 10.1 (JB), to an Asus laptop.
I installed the Intel Mywifi dashboard 15.1.1s64 (a version accepted by the latest Intel wifi driver Wireless_15.1.1_s64).
It can install it only if our chipset accept it : intel centrino range.
have a look over the downloadcenter.intel.com
As for me, I can "see" my devices, and I can use my laptop as a hotspot (fine !) just as connecitfy does, but Sharing files is impossible.
I should have an icon ...but nothing !
I have changed my firewall settings, but NO way.
It seems it's a problem of security settings, for sometimes it has displayed a kind of message : 'sharing impossible, ...'.
If anyone has a clue !
NB: WIFI DIrect works fine betwwen 2 samsung devices for long (2 years; they were the first) when my Asus transformer TF101 is still stucked in a Widi native, not working in ad-hoc. I tried with REceive wifi app, or other wifi direct apps..

it sounds to me like you are trying to create a network using widi, I don't think this is actually possible yet. I was under the impression you could only push files from one device to another, i.e there will be an option when you click send to send via WIDI in the same way you would by bluetooth.

HI.
Actually, In fact, I found that to work proprelly, the intel myWifi needs to be created as local network, with special features, security and many things to do. I just begun to explore this morning...but it's not just a 'plug and play' widget ! not as easy as Android does the Ad-hoc would do !
I'll try latter, let people know if I can manage it.
you can use wifi direct and adhoc on one soluution from intel.
it is baed on intel's wifi cards - more ifo here:http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/imwd/sb/CS-033754.htm?wapkw=wifi+direct
you need to instal itnels wifi managemen sw + wifi dashboard. if not you wont be able to use wifi direct.
it is working as adhoc really nice but I was not able to send wifi direct any files even it did connect properrly. looks like kind of bug
using gsg2 with neatrom
You need a "Airdroid"
http://www.airdroid.com/
Wifi Direct != WiDi
It's driving me nuts with all the talk of WiDi on here...Wifi Direct is completely different than WiDi. WiDi is Wireless Display. (just search for WIDI, and read up on it please)
I only found this forum because I was actually looking for how to connect my computer and phone using the WiFi Direct function on my phone. It seems like it should just be as easy as making the two devices see each other. I have the Note 2, and a Win7/64 laptop. They are both running on my 5Ghz network, which from my understanding shouldn't matter since they should be setting up an ad-hoc network between the two.
So far I've tried to create an ad-hoc network on my computer, but my phone won't see it. I've tried just scanning from the Note by just opening the wifi direct app and letting it search and by trying to find the new AD-Hoc connection on my PC. I've tried finding my phone on my network with my PC, but it won't connect the two. Just show me there are devices there on the network. I really wish Samsung would jump out in front of this one and give some more directions on how to use this feature they are pushing.

Airdroid works great! I was having the same problem as the OP until I saw this. Airdroid lets you upload and download from the phone just by setting up a wifi hotspot on the phone. No need for a router or internet.
I think I know what you mean.
WiFi direct will give you a different ip address separate from ur normal WiFi router. Try setting up your Windows pc WiFi to the same ip range and subnet....you can find the ip address by long clicking on the WiFi connection in settings while its connected to the other device, or use an app called fring, and scan the connected network for the ip addy.
My Samsung tv calls WiFi direct SML (samsung media link)
The link password protected using wps.
Wps is hackable I belive, so in theory u should be able to get the WiFi direct password...
My Samsung tv wifidirect/SML calls its signal sec link xxxx, I can connect to this with my GN..but cant do anything else.
My thoughts are Samsung are purposly restricting the full potentional of this untill a later date,....every thing Seems to be there for it to work, but they are not ready to free it up.
They make money so far from you buying add on devices like allcast dongle. Which should not be needed as you have wifidirect/SML.
No doubt this will be a great selling point on the new Samsung ranges

how do i connect the wi-fi direct supporting windows 8 tablet to wi-fi direct supporting android device via wi-fi direct?
next...
hi..
Now I've get my nexus 4 phone... I'tried to connect it to my Pc using My Wifi Dashboard..and it may have worked...
Yes it connects.. but impossible to send files fromboth sides.
As my nexus4 to GT Note...nothing. It connects sometimes, but any apk I tried did worked ! Wifi direct. I tried 6 .apk, and only WIFI SHOOT worked..; But it s cheating, for it uses the same local network. SO it's not REAL Wifi Direct as intended.
And NFC beam that could be similar...uses Bluetooth ! not wifi direct..
Wi Fi direct is not mature . Only if you have Samsung phones / tablets !! absolutely prefect and fast. Good job Samsung..

[Q] [Help} Note 10.1 Adhoc

My goal is to use my PC's Ethernet connection as the source for internet on my Galaxy Note 10.1.
I am using Ubuntu 12.10 on my computer. I can go to Network > Use as hot spot > Change the settings to ad hoc, ect.
The PC 'connects' to this network, thus I know it is 'on'.
When I browse the listed Wifi networks on the tablet, the hot spot is not found.
Nor can I manually add the information in 'add a wireless network' (with and without security)
Nor do WifiAnalyzer or SmartWiFi Scanner detect the hot spot.
I have other devices I thought I'd try. My Galaxy Nexus (4.1.2) cannot find it. My Notion Ink Adam (4.1.1) cannot find it.
Interestingly, my Motorola Droid OG (2.3.7) CAN see it, and connect to it!
I have read that ICS and above have had ad hoc support taken out of the wpa_supplicant file located in 'system/bin/'.
I have tried several replacement files, but none have even successfully turned wifi back on (yes, rebooting after replacing).
Note: I do not want to tether internet from my phone to the tablet. I can already do this. I want to use my PC (running Ubuntu 12.10) as the source.
Is there any way to achieve this?
Thanks
I suppose router it is
last bump.
