G1 Radio and SPL Question. - General Questions and Answers

Hi, all!
I have a G1 with the last Cyanogenmod build on it. I'm considering installing something newer and Biffmod and EzGingerbread have been suggested. I've read many posts about Radios and SPLs, but now I'm really confused.
How do I find out which Radio and SPL version I have and how do I find out which one I should upgrade to (if any)? Apparently I can gain access to more RAM if I upgrade.
Any help really appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris.

Help for a starter!

Hi guys, I am a new on ths forum and with te prophet. After using a hima for 3 years, I bought a prophet today. Since I was at wm2005 aku 3.5 with my hima, I cannot use my pim.vol any more with my current rom version, which is
Rom version 2.9.7.24 WWE
Rom date 2/9/2006
Radio 02.07.20
Protocol 413.1.03
Extrom 2.9.7.106
This is all new for me and I am hoping that someone could post me or PM me some advice on newer roms and how to upgrade. I also found a version with G3 or G4. What is the difference and what do I need to use.
This device works different, but it look very nice.
Can I re-use some of my old (hima) applications on this machine?
Thanks very much in advance. I hope to have as much pleasure on this forum as I had on the hima forum!
1. you can get some of the old apps working on wm5 devices, but not all of them.
2. check your device for G3-G4 issue here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=prophet_g3g4_how
3. good thing if you have time to read this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
it will answer most of your questions on how to upgrade your ROM. read it three or four times: i'm not kidding - you may ruin your device if you miss something.
If I can hijack this thread for a second... is there any way to backup whatever ROM we have on a CID locked device? cause it seems kinda pointless to have to CID unlock the device (which involves FLASHING a completely new rom, overwriting the old), to open the backup feature at which point is useless since we've lost the original rom.

why not? just download your original ROM from this site or official site of qtek, jamin or whatever your device is.
afaik you CID unlock the device to be able to flash different ROMs (for example, to flash jamin with qtek ROM) and to be able to return back to your original ROM.

Radio 1.27.14.32 & dump

Hello all,
First I have a TYTNII orange version:
1.81.73.1 FRE (10/05/07)
Radio version is 1.27.14.32
My goal was (is) to update with stardart HTC Rom ok SHap's famous one.
But, after lot of threads readings, I noticed that the French Version everywhere are with rom version 1.27.12.32.
No thread with "my" version 1.27.14.32
SO I decided to dump my rom.
So it's ok with the four *.raw files
I'm going to rebuild my rom.
But I have no idea how to dump or rebuild ONLY the radio, to share with all interested people.
Any idea?
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359015
May this can help you ...cause you will be able to help me

Yes, dumping ram is a necessary first step. The second step is that you will need to run my upcoming FrankenKaiser radio dumper which will dump nand flash. Would be nice to try this out on an unpublished radio (where it actually makes sense to dump)
Any luck dumping that radio? want to do the same but, being lazy, thought i might be able to save some time if you've got that radio?
I should really be finishing my patio instead of getting in to flashing another magical htc phone!
Ok...To be honest, I was waiting too long time so now it's upgraded to 6.1 and 1.65.16.25 radio. But:
Jocky, I still have the four PartXX.raw files, is it possible with your tool to obtain the radio?
If yes,I will upload it for the community b/c this radio was really fine under 6.0
If I'm lucky you answer, can I take the opportunity to ask you if it works with Polaris?
Thanks

No, can't do anything with those raw files. As a first step you must make a radio ram dump. A link was given in the 2nd post.
hi !
boss! i've done that dumps successfully what to do to make leech the radio off these dumps.
Thnx

Flashing an AT&T tilt with an Official HTC Rom

Hello,
I have recently bought a AT&T Tilt, and would like to flash to the current Offcial HTC WM 6.1 ROM.
I have done alot of reading in the wiki here and various FAQ threads and what not. But i am still a bit confused with a few things.
I have read the ROM Flashing faq and Intro here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
And i understand all that.
I also undestand that i need the Key board fix from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334911
But thats not hard.
I went here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
I checked my device and the rom currently on it is the AT&T WM6.0 1.57.502.2 Original Shiped Rom.
I figured, being in Australia, i would need rom that had WWE as the country? So i downloaded the "RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship" rom. Is this an appropriete ROM for what i want?
BUT Its all this stuff about SPL's and what not that is confusing me.
My Tilt is SIM unlocked because i am using it on the Telstra network here in Australia. But im not sure if i have to change SPL's or not and if so, which spl i need and how to change it?
It would be greatly appreciated if someone was able to help me understand this SPL bussiness, because i really dont want to dive straight in a risk my device. I have done a fair bit of reading and i'm a fairly competent computer user so it won't take me long to learn.
Thanks in advance,
eMiller
you have to CID unlock it. this involves flashing the device with HardSPL then running a unlocker program. (this is what i know from Hermes, so i don't know if it is exactly the same on Tilt). It breaks the warranty though, so think first, then jump
by the way, you should try a cooked rom. in my experience, HTC roms are not that good, except for getting a stable radio. get the radio, then get a new OS rom, like hang.tuah or something.

Try this one:

Look for the Zip file at the very bottom of the screen this hard spl will let you flash any rom (follow the instructions the spl gives you exactly and dont get nervous if it appears stiuck for a bit), just make sure you know which ROM you really want to flash at the end
.
Again same stuff.
Guys, when you gonna learn to read everything which is realted to your device when you want to do something?
Everything is in Wiki, everything you need is posted in ROM threads.
Come on GUYS!
read the f**** wiki. you need hardspl. its not that hard to figure out if your not an imbisel
@joel2009: That is a little harsh. Also, if you're going to call someone an imbecile, you should probably spell it right.
@eMiller12 (fellow noob): I don't know if I would bother with the HTC ROM, I just flashed it and I am finding a few really annoying bugs... Read Jocky's STICKY post about the HardSPLs to learn how to flash one. It really is quite simple--and it's unlikely that you're going to brick your device, so no worries.
Hey FireMedic, thanks for understanding.
I have read through the Wiki a fair bit, i was just unsure which versions of hardSPL etc where best for the [email protected] Tilt inparicular. But i will just use this one that vorostatz recomended if that is the best one for the tilt.

We are not all senior members. I can fully understand the guys wish not to turn his expensive device into a paperweight. Ease up eh?
search forums using google (at top right)
yeah, exactly... I was pretty scared to hardspl when I first started.
Hardspl 3.29 seems to be the best one, check my signature after you've read the hardspl sticky.
From what I understand, a rom flash might try to write a different spl which is obviously bad. hardspl prevents this.
If you ever need to, you can undo it. Kyphur explains in the hardspl sticky how to change them, by running a program named jumpspl 1.56 (on your device) with your sim and sd cards out and then flashing the spl normally.
Just make sure you follow directions for your device and try different roms.
Good luck and feel free to ask questions, even if some of the people here have heard them way too often.

Actually the WWE (World Wide English) one seems to be used more in Europe and this side of the world. For down-under, they use SEA South East Asia versions. There are issues with ROM compatibility in Australia specifically (at least in the WM 6.0 days) so if you want to know the best official WM 6.0 and 6.1 ROMs, short of searching for what setups Australian xda-dev forum members are using, you could look at the devices on sale in the shops. If you're wanting WM 6.1 just to have the latest and greatest, think again and have a look at the Windows Mobile 6 vs. Windows Mobile 6.1 thread.
***Edit*** Also note that there are two Australian specific ROMs in the WM 6.0 section of the Kaiser HTC ROM wiki

838pro user - upgrades available

Hi,
I have dopod 838pro but i was not able to use/upgrade this since july last year and its still wm5.
I would like to know if you can help me figure out how I can upgrade this to the latest available rom. I am not techy so step by step will be useful. you might have forums or threads already for this but its been so long since july and some of the link for downloads and upgrades are no longer active.
current ROM 1.23.707.4 (07/21/06)
radio: 1.06.00.10
any inputs will be appreciated.
thank you in advance.
Isn't the 838Pro a Hermes? If so, you can try any of the Hermes ROMs. Be sure to read Mr. Vanx's upgrade guide first. It has a step by step.
Start by flashing HARDSPL

What is the latest radio and spl?

I'm running fasttest v3.03 and i want to upgrade to 2.1 build but everytime i do its so slow and lags. I would like to know what the newest radio and spl are and was wondering if i upgrade to a new radio and spl will this help the performance. Right now i have hard spl and 2.2219.26i. Thanks in advance for any help.
Please check the forum threads and use search before posting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
thanks for the help but the link u gave me sends me to a radio and spl that are only for 32a this dosent help me
Those aren't even the newest.. but if you tried to do some reading instead, you would understand that radio and spl have nothing to do with the performance of 2.1 roms. So don't bother changing it. It's missing drivers
