I have a Galaxy S I9000 that I'm giving to my wife since I have a new phone.
Was wondering if I can remove my Google account and add hers but keep all the contacts, Apps, setting, etc there from mine? I tried to find a place to remove mine but can't find it. I already added her Google account.

so iv tried googlin this and never really got a clear answer. i could be asking the wrong question. i have a new gmail account that id like to use (just looks more professional) and id like to use it as my primary account for my i500. i know that i could just sync both and have the emails come in anyway but id like to just use it as junk mail account for facebook and those things and not have it on my phone. id like to just bring everything from one account to another..apps ,iv learned contacts, and whatever else i use on my phone.....mostly my app. thanks to any advice on this and im sorry if its poseted and im just slow today
Couple of easy ways I can think of off the top of my head to migrate contacts:
1. Export the contacts CSV from one gmail account and import to the other through the webmail interface.
2. Soocial with 2 gmail connections to replicate the contacts across.
As to the rest, I accidently the whole Android. But really I don't even... ;-) Please clarify exactly what you are looking for, and perhaps someone can give you a clear answer...
im sorry. im using and email account for my phone now. (email1) and i just made a new email id like to use it just like im using email1. so when i sign in with my new email it brings all my apps with it set cpu, root explorer, astro, ect...so i guess my real question how do i migrate apps? from one account to another
anyone at all? please if you know just point me in the right direction
I don't think that is possible cheif, but you could keep the old account as an 'App Drawer' of sorts. shut off gmail / contact sync / etc in Settings > Account Settings > Your Account. Then just leave it be.
Hi all. I just migrated from my "old" HTC fuze and got on board the Android train with a Samsung Vibrant. It's fantasic out of the box, but I'm sure after a few more minutes on the forum I'll find something that needs fixing.
One thing that does need fixing is that when it syncs the contacts, it adds anybody I've emailed or responded to, outside of my contact list.
GMail doesn't add these people as contacts, but the droid does. Any fix for this short of going through my contacts every couple days and purging???
I hope this works for you, this is with my Droid Contacts.
Open Contacts -> Settings/More/Options button -> Display Options
There should be a "Choose contacts to display". Select your GMAIL account. Mine is currently set to "My Contacts" and everything else is unchecked. Also check the others listed. Gmail will store random outgoing/incoming emails, as All Contacts, where your contacts are "My Contacts"
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, all my contacts are google contacts, and nothing on the phone.
Is there any way to get gmail to not store all the various random emails and people I have contact with? I've dug through the settings and even tried to find something in the labs tab that might stop storage of ALL contacts, but couldn't find anything.

Double check my attacked image, else only other thing i can think of is to remove and readd your google account to your phone.
Ahhh, there's the problem. When I chose Contacts > Display Options, I get a checkbox for my google accounts - there is no drill down for which accounts I can select. I'm on the Samsung Galaxy.
BTW, what screen cap app are you using?
Ok if you can't stop the phone from, getting them then you need to delete them in gmail.
Cause gmail does save everyone you have every replied, or sent email to. It's under other contacts.
just go in there and delete all the ones you don't wont
I noticed today that none of the new contacts that I create on the Infuse sync back to my google account. I tested and if I edit an existing that is already in google it syncs and if I add on my google account online it sync back to my phone with no problem. I have went through all settings, but have yet to figure this out. I did some google searches and came up with lots of issues on others phones, but still no solution for the Infuse. I do notice that there is a g beside the contacts that are synced, but when I create a new one it doesn't have this. Also going through the setting I seen the option to back up contact to ATT so I did this and it only backed up the few new ones that I have that won't backup to google. Anyone no of a fix for this????
Stock Rooted Infuse
In contacts press menu (button) -> settings -> save new contacts to -> google

first; open contacts >menu >settings>save new contacts to>google or ask every time.
edit: now you need to get the phone contacts you already created into google
now this will be sloppy. go to contacts>menu import/export>export to sdcard> menu>more>display options>now set phone and sim to off and google to on> back to contacts>menu>import/export>import from sdcard>if prompted choose your email account not phone
there will be duplicates that will be linked automatically, to fix it you probably want to merge them in gmail on a computer web browser.
you might also be able to email yourself a namecard where you can choose the contacts to eliminate backing up and re-syncing the existing gmail contacts. if you do this you may be able to more easily find the contacts not in google by changeing the display options settings, turning off the google contacts. you may also be able to use the groups to see only the ones that are not in google, havent tried.
edit:^this works much better.
open contacts>menu>more>display options>disable google for now>back to contacts>menu>import/export>send namecard via>slect all (unless you know there are some on your list also in google)>send>gmail>email to yourself>open your gmail>download attachment>save to your gmail account>go into contacts>menu>more>display options>turn google back on.
So did anyone else notice that the new Market has an account setting? Allows me to select different accounts. Does this finally mean that I can merge two accounts worth of apps? Family style?

Im not sure if you can merge 2 accounts, They have to have a way of preventing people from signing into a family members account and downloading apps that were bought thru said account. If not then it poses a serious problem for app developers and devs getting paid correctly. Unfortunately I dont have another account to test it on..
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
"Your application purchases are tied to your Google Account and can be installed an unlimited amount of times on any device." See:
http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=113410
It works for watching movies rented on another account, too:

Keep in mind you do still have to add the additional Google account(s) to the phone, meaning the device will have access to all other Google services including Gmail.
so lets say I added my gmail account to my wifes phone and downloaded all the apps I have paid for to her phone..couldnt I just delete my gmail from her phone after and her phone would still have all my apps on it?
The documentation doesn't say, but most likely yes, and it'd be real easy to test it. Just add your account, download an app, remove the account, and see what happens.
Keep in mind, though, that without the associated Google account you won't be able to update those apps -- which is an enormous downside in the long run.

I plan on just having a family account to buy apps on, and then add that to all the phones. But it use to be that it had to be the main account.. I haven't purchased any apps yet, recent iphone switcher, but now it appears to not have to be the main account... which is awesome cause google talk only worked with the main.
Hi All,
Just migrated from iPhone to OnePlus 7 Pro, and am enjoying my return to Android very much.
However, I'm really puzzled by how the inbuilt contacts app is working.
I've always kept my contacts synced with my Google account, so when I moved across I simply added my Google account and there were all my contacts.
So far, so simple. My expectation was that the Contacts app on the phone would simply display my Google contacts and that any edits would be reflected in the Google account.
I've recently tried to edit a contact, and I find that it's not so simple. For the particular contact, I appear to have 3 linked contacts. One from Google, one from WhatsApp and one from the phone itself.
To make matters worse, there appear to be more phone contacts than there are contacts in the Google account. How the hell did that happen? I've not added any new contacts, or told the phone to maintain any contacts locally.
I've now told the Contacts app to only show contacts that are in the Google account, and to use the Google account as the default for new contacts.
My questions are this:
1) Why does the phone appear to be maintaining a separate sets of contacts?
2) How do I know which field to edit in a contact. Attached screenshot shows show there are three identical sets of phone numbers. Which one is for the Google account?
3) Can I stop the phone from maintaining it's own local contacts database?
4) Can I make the phone only show the Google contacts when editing?
5) Can I get a view that shows which contacts are on the phone, but not in Google? I want to work out where the extra ones have come from.
Perhaps, I'm missing the point of how Android does this. If anyone could explain, that would be great.
Thanks,
Andy.
