just a heads up you might get flamed for this one. searching is the way to go.
s-off opens a world to custom roms, devs strive to bring the community roms that have improved battery life and performance, thats the goal. almost any custom rom you flash will have better battery life than stock hands down. All custom roms r sense based as of now, but as soon as ASOP roms start popping up ASOP will be the way to go for better battery life.
Flash a custom rom give the battery a good discharge then full recharge. Wipe battery stats and give it a charge or too. You'll see an increase
Flashing ROMS 101 always calibrate your battery when you flash a new ROM app is free in the market...

I understand what you are saying but i am looking for reports back on the different roms. In my past experience i didn't see better battery...I saw worse. My last phone was a MT4G and i rooted that one and did the custom rom thing...I know people are wanting to unleash the power this phone is capable of but i would think it would be at the expense of battery life. I dont know squat so it may not be a side effect but just wanting to see how each rom is holding up in the real world
no. using your phone is killing your battery life. and potentially your social life

Hello, i would like to get everyones opinion on which ROM you guys think is better for Droid Charge Thanks
Humble Froyo... Battery Life is awesome
The "best ROM" for one person might not be the best for another, which is why the only way to figure out which one's right for you is to start flashing and stick with what you personally like.
I'd recommend starting with GummyCharged, as it's what Humble is based on and IMO is a bit more polished.
Also, keep in mind that the kernel, not the ROM, is what really affects your battery life. The only time the ROM would come into play is if it came with a misbehaving app or doesn't properly go into deep sleep (and none of the ROMs here have either problem).
The reason Humble's battery life is good is because it comes with imnuts' kernel, which is undervolted to use less power. If you flash that same kernel on any other ROM (Gummy's ODIN package even comes with it), your battery life will be just about the same.
What do you guys consider the best ROM on battery life. I would prefer AOSP/De-Sensed, but anything will do. I need a rom with great battery!
Thanks,
Jordan
Hi Jordan,
I have tried a few ROM's and finally settled on InsertCoin. I have used 1.91 and 2.00 and both are stable and have a good battery life

Have a try if u like.

I've had decent results with CM7 and now 9, the latter seemingly better than the former. Also get some Anker batt's.
It's still not great, although I can last about a day and a half.
There is a similar thread like this going on.
ARHD beats any other ROM for my phone.
Every phone is different. I suggest you just try them.
CM9 for instance gives me crap battery, while for others it will give great batterylife.
Also, experiment with Kernels and CPU mods as well to bring batterylife further.
I've experienced several roms I've tried, beats by grogg , vicitorious , ordroid, insert coin, and elegenceia. I must say Elegenciea had thé very best battery life.
I turn off un needed sync, turn off vibrations feedback, turn off led notifications, turn off keyboard feedback vibration, and after flashing a new Rom, charge to 100% with the device plugged in go to recovery, wipe battery stats, unplug . All these little things make a big different in battery life. Hope I've helped some !

Ill tell you one thing every rom you'll try there is none one better then the other for battery life your fooling yourself thinking a rom has better battery life then another...
It just depends how you use your phone ...

Couple questions;
Does rooting your phone = more drain on the batte? Seems like I got better battery life when it was bone stock.
Does themeing help with draining the battery?
Sorry if these are stupid questions but it seems like I had better battery life out the box on my phone. I'm running SYnergy r60 and it's themed with Eye Candy. I have been checking the things running in the background and it's doesn't seen like anything more is running then in stock. I have WiFi turned on at and work and get pretty good service in the building. But again it still seemed better stock.

If you concerned about battery life then you should try "Clean Rom & Clean kernel". They based on stock rom and provide good performance and very good on battery life.
Different roms will have different effects on battery.
I am stock, stock recovery, bootloader still locked - but rooted.
As far as rooting alone, i'm seeing no difference in battery life.
Once you go flashing things, it's a whole new ballgame.
The problem with flashing roms/kernels is that you are continuously doing it. So every couple days you flash a new rom, or kernel, or new mod. So your phone never really has time to collaborate and settle in. Technically you're suppose to give a kernel and rom a couple days before judging battery. But we rarely do that. Plus files can get left behind from previous dirty flashes that can affect battery life. There's just a lot more ways that battery life can take a hit when flashing roms/kernels, but it can also get you significantly better battery life.

Rooting itself makes no difference. Certain services and programs that require root could drain more battery but that is obviously optional.

It could hurt or help it but only to a small degree. Black uses the least power to display and white uses the most. Overall, it isn't something to stress over too much.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think it would be a huge drain but wasn't sure.
Not sure if it's coincidence, but I reflashed r60 but didn't reflash Eye Candy and it seems the battery is doing much better.
I don't want this to turn into a "my ROM is better" thread by any means... but as a newer ROM flasher, I was wondering how much difference a different ROM would have on battery life? I'm lucky to make it 8 hours on my Skyrocket right now even idling... and while I like the ROM I'm on now (Embryo), it's almost unusable as a device this way for me.
Thoughts?
ROMs definitely have an effect on your battery life, as they govern what's running in the background and how the system operates. Some ROMs are optimized for battery life, and some are optimized for performance. The OP and ROM thread will usually tell you which is which.
That said, if you're only getting 8 hours of battery life on Embryo 5, there's something else going on. Check the link in my signature for information on hunting down and wiping out wakelocks, and consider underclocking/undervolting and changing the governor.

you should check out the battery life help thread as it has almost every possible detail of enhance your phone battery performance. when im running embryo i always get around 22 hr with 2 hrs on screen so there something your missing. and every rom with have different battery performance not all because of the tweaks and rom enhancers but because of the user. a person who is surfing the web all day with little phone and text will easily drain battery. but a person who mainly running music social browsing talk text can easily get longer battery life.
No offense man but if embryo's rom is considered "unusable" then use another rom
I'm currently using stock MM rom and I'm not really pleased with the battery life so far. I can't last a day with a full charge and the battery drains somewhat fast. Call it placebo but I really think there's something not right. I tried doing a factory reset before but the results are still the same. Now my question is, would rooting and flashing a custom rom perhaps help alleviate the battery life situation by a bit. Maybe say some kernel has better battery performance or so? I don't want to root my phone just for the sake of testing it out. I hope someone could provide some real experiences with the performances of custom roms so far. Thanks!
Rooting didn't do much to mine. Not even using Greenify
