So the B7O has been outfitted with a new SBK.
And yes, I have one that gives the error on nvflash, with the new sbk.
So the nvflash method doesnt work.
gingerbreak i was also told woulnt work.
I heard something about a CWM method that might work, but i havent been able to find which method they referenced, havent found the thread explaining it.
I'm guessing its not a smart idea to update to 3.2 as long as the sbk key is unknown?
Is there still a method that might give us root? Or are we trulystuck till the new sbkis known?
Try this method...

Not saying this will work but this is a new rooting method that just came out. Its worth a shot.

I've already tried it, and its based on nvflash, so it needs the sbk key as well.
thanks for the suggestion though
What B70 do you have is it US or ww or other version?
I have a B70 ww and mine is ok.
My version is a WW (dutch here )
and it was already known that not all B7O have the new key, they prolly started somewhere halfway the month with the new release
The method described in this article does not depend on nvflash, so it may be worth looking into it: http://androidroot.mobi/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101-root-cwm-recovery/

I was just wondering after getting my Asus Transformer the other day and found out it was a B70 model.
I figured out that it is has the newer SDK which does not allow NvFlash to connect and root the device.
I heard that there were other methods to root and was wondering what those other methods are and if they are compatable with the newer SDK in the B70 model.
As far as I can tell, after a bunch of reading, the other rooting methods only worked on 3.0.x versions of Android, so that rules out all the B70 revisions (they seem to ship with 3.1).
I've got an unrootable B70 aswell, hoping a dev comes along with a solution at some stage.
Same here, got B70 model, tried everything but nothings works. I really need it because it wont recognize my phone´s internet (using Joikuspot on a Nokia N8).
Let's hope some1 finds a solution for us.
Yeah i hope so.
Its wierd though my mate bought and recived his transformer the same time as me and they are both B70 models, yet he can root his fine and mine wont. I believe he has the younger B70 model that still has the original SDK.
Just rooted mine! B70K...
Hi there,
I just received my brand new TF101 (B70K????) from amazon.co.uk yesterday and was very disappointed when I found all this treads saying you can't root a B70 version.
I decide to have a go rooting just now using the live CD method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303 and I managed to get my TF101 root the first try!
The means not all B70s are with the new SBK.
Happy now....
Joe.
We are pretty screwed at the moment, till DEV's find a way to root B70 Transformers... arghhh FREAKIN ASUS

Hi, Could you pls confirm if your TF101 came with 3.1 or 3.2? Mine was with 3.1 and I made the mistake of upgrading to 3.2 Now it won't root using the nvflash test which I did..
I would go ahead and install Linux in case you were able to root on Android 3.2 after upgrading your firmware!
(Also, it says now ww 8.6.5.9 20110816)
Cheers
Sam
The OTA-update from Asus does NOT upgrade the SBK, so if your B70 TF shipped with the old SBK, it still has it, no matter the OS version it runs. My B70 came with 3.1, I updated it with the official 3.2 OTA, and still managed to root with NvFlash.
Keep an eye on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232612 to find out what SBK you run. Or simply just give NvFlash a go, as far as I understood, if you have the new SBK it won't get any contact, so it won't do anything nasty to your device. I might be wrong, though...

Possibly it might be a matter of days when RayMan, LilStevie release a new method of unlocking! Need to wait until then..and yeah, ran that nvflash thing as well and it gave error ..0x4 and write error..

Root tablet with Android 3.2 WW_epad-8.6.5.7 sn b80******
i read there are some tab with a lock to root
any help?
ia better to wait more time or is better to change the equipament
At least some B70 tablets have a locked bootloader though mine doesn't. Don't know about any newer revisions.
I don't think there's any way to root at the moment.
did you try the nvflash method for rooting, find the nvflash that has prime baked in.
Wrong section, but it is pretty unlikely for something made in August to not have the new key that was implemented back in July, so... You're out of options since downgrade is no longer possible with newer firmwares.
Thread should be moved to Q&A!
But if your TF's serial number starts with B70 or B80 it might be locked with the new SBK,
only way to test is to try the root methods and I'd they fail you have to wait & pray...
I'm in the same boat so fingers crossed and keep hoping!

hi
I have a serious problem with the root of my asus. then
in fact I have an asus eee pad B70KAS414181 version
3.2.1 build HTK75.WW_epad-8.6.5.13. I tried all methods
possible. I got to install all drivers.
But every time I run the root, my tablet
APX leaves the mode instantly as if I
I even logged out and the operation stops.
help please
as far as i know, b70 and b80 models are not able to be rooted..
no way? its hurts
know exactly what you mean.. i had a b70 up until today when i exchanged it for a b50.... but i have no clue how to root and install a custom recovery.
nothing is impossible. the solution can be found by searching
i hope we will find
You can search the forum. I remember there's a post that says if your TF has serial number before B7O.... it's rootable. I don't remember which post it is though but you are able to root some B7s
I think some have their B70K bootloader lock and unfortunately when trying to access it automatically disconnects. you just find a way to work around this blockage
nothing is impossible.
I will look up to find
hav patience, there are amazing people working on this as we post

waiting as well with my b80.....
I must admit i think i check this section a million times a day hoping for root, i love my transformer as it is but i know it'll be a million times better with a custom rom

B7O Root test and procedure
I rooted my B70 successfully with the bootCD V4[US/WW/JP/TW/DE/TB] One-Click Universal root for stock firmware - V4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303). But followed the following procedure.
First I did the NVFlash test (SEE BELOW), and when that worked, that gave me confidence to try the bootCD.
I also did the NVFlash backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...vflash]+Full+backup/restore+your+Transformer!) before the CD root.
B70 procedure / test:
First: I did steps 1 - 3 of this post to Basically Get the drivers, ADB and APX working. But don't root yet. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14813252).
Second: Test NvFlash communications per this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16356361
if it passes - you're good to go
Third: Make a NvFlash backup of your current partitioins per this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129308) (NOTE: I had to edit out the # comments to get it to backup all the partitions - I just pasted the commands into a batch file.)
Last: Run the bootCD and follow the instructions that show up there.
Thanks to all the others that developed these procedures and methods!! All I did was piece them together after much searching, because I really wanted to root my new B7O. I didn't install ClockworkMod yet, but that is my next step on the way to an overclocked kernel.
Now have loaded cwm and netformer 1.6. All is well.
P.S. I have b70kas01. Got from Newegg last week.

Got tired of waiting ( I have a B7OKAS29***** 16gb) and bought a 32gb off ebay this weekend that is a B6O, already rooted. My B7O will be on ebay soon.
Mine is B70KAS184075 and I rooted it no problem this morning using ASUS Transformer Root ToolKit V7.1 Universal (Windows) [v6 WW,US,TW,TB,DE(8.6.5.x)]. I have had it since the beginning of September and assumed it was not rootable, but this morning I decided to test it. To my surprise it worked flawlessly.
I returned two 16GB ASUS Tablets because they were unrootable and figure ASUS can deal with open stock and lose some money. asus is not keeping in the spirit of open source i am the purchasing manager at my company and have rejected all asus purchases, along with viewsonic products. we have the power to hurt them in their wallets because of their corporate decisions. This may be the nicest android tablet but a locked bootloader and no friggen accesories makes me wait for something better. I sure wish the development community would get behind this tablet because like i said it may be the nicest and most popular. iCS will soon be here, followed by source code then comes cyanogenmod roms. wish I could root
hello, several days earlier, my eepad transformer got bricked without reason,
i tried to flash it with NVflash, but still didn't work.
i have rf B50 at the time.
after googling and searching in the internet, i didn't find any good solution, so i decided to claim the warranty to the asus service center,
and after 3 days, i got my transformer back, the customer service told me that there's a malfunction in my transformer's mainboard / generally a hardware issues, so they replaced the mainboard with a new one.
well, i didn't ask them what version of mainboard did they replace to my TF, i just afraid they would know that i have rooted my tf before where it'll cancel the warranty lol.
so now i want to root/install a custom rom into my tf, but i still couldnt find out what B version is my hardware ,well if im guessing , it'll be between b70 or b80, but i still don't want to take the risk though,
so im asking , is there any way to check the hardware version of my TF now? with software/application?
since the version of course didn't matched again with the box/warranty card,
if there isn't any way, what risk could i possibly have with doing random method to root my transformer?
if it's bricked, can i reflash it with nvflash? did the latest version(b80?) can be reflashed with nvflash?
sorry for the long questions,
i hope i'll get the answer i want
On those models NVFlash still won't work.
There is a tool called SBKDetect in the Developer sub-forum. You can check with that. If you have V2, then NVFlash won't work, but it is possible to root with other method.
thx for the info, i'll go search the sbkdetect right away,
btw, what root method is working for the b70/b80 right now? and which one is the safest/working method?
im a little bit confused, since i always use nvflash to reflashing and rooting.

all right, i rooted my tf with the razorclaw method , thx for your help, i think i'll start learning how to install custom rom without nvflash now
oh yes, and one more question, if my transformer got bricked again, not in hardware issue, i mean like normal brick where you can save it with nvflash,
is it possible to unbrick the b70/b80 asus transformer?
if yes, what method can i use?
not soft bricked where you still can turn on your transformer/enter recovery mode,
but normal bricked where you cant even turn on your transformer, but for the b50/b60 still can be saved by using nvflash method

AFAIK no. Only possibility is NVFlash, but that does not work for those ATM.
all right, thanks for the info
i'll be more careful than in customizing my tf from now on
Does anyone know where I might be able to find the latest of the Honeycomb updates? I've got the 8.6.5.13 NVFlash, but I've been searching and haven't been able to find any of the 'Official' updates. It doesn't help that searching XDA for '8.6.5.19' actually searches for '8 6 5 19'. I believe the latest is either 8.6.6.21 or 8.6.5.21? If someone could point me in the direction of the latest (or two latest) oficcial Asus Honeycomb updates, I'd appreciate it.
Hi Subnetmask (255.255.255.0)
Why dont you just use ota from asus? are is your TF rooted and CWM installed?
Otherwise use gnufabio's recovery installer app to install cwm so you can upgrade.
or use nvflash to install ICS????
It looks like he wants to downgrade, or only upgrade to the latest HC and avoid ICS. I'd link you to the download from asus on their site, but of course it's down -_-
When the site is back up it should be on there. If not search for 8.6.6.21 stock rooted tf101 or along those lines.

That's exactly it. I downgraded to 8.6.5.13, but don't want to upgrade it to ICS again just yet... SInce I downgraded it to 8.6.5.13 it hasn't shut down on its own again yet (Big surprise...).
I looked on Asus' web site, and unless there's another section I couldn't find, the only non-ICS download is 8.6.5.13 for the 'CN' SKU. I've searched around Google and unless I"m missing something (always possible) nothing useful has come up yet. Searching here is kinda useless because '8.6.5.13' gets searched as '8 6 5 13' so pretty much any thread with an 8, a 6, a 5 or a 13 gets displayed :/.
I have a copy of Stock 8.6.5.21 (latest HC). I can post it up once I get to my PC.
Probably be a couple of hours.

Awesome. Thanks!
Anyone have 8.6.5.19? I don't know why I'm having so much trouble, but I can't get my TF101 to re-root for the life of me. I've tried on the bare 8.6.5.13 & with 8.6.5.21, with ViperMod, NachoRoot and Razorclaw. .13 is too old and .21 is too new for Razorclaw, Nachroot by it's self didn't seem to work right, and Vipermod, using option 3 didn't seem to work either. The problem with ViperMod was when it came back saying UID should be '0', it was always '2000'. If I cna get .19, I should be able to use Razorclaw, then rootkeeper, and update to .21. Then I just need to make the Asus update prompts go away...

I saw that thread. The file appears to be for 'WW' SKUs, and MultiUpload appears to not be working. The other problem is if I could DL it, I doube I'd be able to apply 8.6.5.21 once rooted.
Don't know why I'm having so much trouble rooting the thing... I've done it after every release since I got it. I must've just gone stoopid lol. Searching for root give ICS information overload.

This link still work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21729271&postcount=250
It doesn't matter if it's WW or not. your goal is to get root and after which you can flash the correct version for your region.
If it work and you get root, use OTA Root Keeper to save your root, upgrade to 8.6.5.21 and restore root. Worth a try
Finally got it rooted... After about an hour of searching, I found the method that I had originally used (the 'One Click' root found here). I installed OTA Root keeper, but that didn't work on my upgrade to .21 from .9. I ended up having to re-root, but since the 'One-Click' worked, it wasn't too painful. Using linix to root it is so obscure (to me) I totally forgot about it.
Still, if someone happens to have the 8.6.5.19 update file (Call me wierd, but I'd rather have/use the proper file for my unit rather than the one for the TF101g even though it may work fine), it would be great to get that to add to my 'collection'.
