When I play a movie or video that I downloaded to the phone (avi), the sound disappeared every 2.5 minutes (approx) of playing. If I touch the status bar and drag it to earlier time or later time, the sound came back.
It's very annoying because I have to slide it every 2.5 min.
I'm using the stock player, vital player, mvideo player and they all have the same problem. I tried 3 different avi movie files on all 3 players.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
UPDATE 8/4/11:
I found out the solution with Vital Player (free app),
setting > decode mode > (choose) software codec
actually it's mentioned on their startup screen but i wasn't paying attention.
I tried Dice Player Trial and it doesn't have this sound problem..but...it's not free
I have the same issue with avi file. I searched for info or fixes but no luck. Anyone else with this issue?

and i forgot to check "screen off"
thanks, that's good enough...could be better but screen off is fine for now
What is the point in playing a music video.. If you're not watching it?
Then you might as well just play the mp3 file instead.
Playing a movie uses more battery than playing a song.
a couple of years ago i downloaded about 6gb of music videos from youtube which contain some legendary stuff, i converted them to mp4 and would always want to keep them on my SD card
sometimes i watch the videos but most of the time i listen to music, and i can confirm what Mobzter said, when the screen is off, the power drain is just the same as when you listen to audio
Im glad its helped ya out a little..
Btw i used meridian again for an hr today, music full volume using earphones! didnt realise 3g was running an all (screen off, playlist on) and i only lost 1%!!! ridiculous o wat!!

Running video in background ?
I to have historical videos, which I would sometimes would just like to listen and not watch, meridian does that, but it can't run in background,i mean android does support some level of multi tasking, doesn't it? It would also help in terms of battery use.is there any such video player?thnks in advance
Play only audio from your favorite video:
I have just found in market an app called: no video, which can play only audio from any video in your device, but it still can't play it in background, for time being it will help me
I have read on other forums where users report that their built-in default music player stops as soon as they switch away from the screen and others say the have no issue. So I guess this is a mysterious bug. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas in trouble shooting this?
no help here
Sorry mine won't turn off no matter what buttons I push. Matter of fact I can't figure out how to truly turn it off, all I get is pause. Without advanced task killer it just sits in the drop down menu, waiting.
I do have the other bug with it though, I can't sort by artist with a lot of music on there. 25gigs, hit artist and it crashes and says not enough memory. There is more than a gig free on both the internal and the external cards. Bummer.
As of today it now plays in the background. If I can figure out a rhyme or reason as to why it wouldn't before I'll report back.

Mine always played in the background. You must be confuse with stock video player which can't play in the background for obvious reasons.

Nope, no confusion. When the program "Music Player" is launched a task manager shows that it is running but if the companion program, (whos name I cant remember) is not also running then the music will not play in the background. The companion program is launched by Music Player when an audio file is started. It has a similar name to Music Player. I believe it is named Sound Player and it has the same icon as Music Player.
If you start a playlist or album or whatever in the stock player and hit the home key it will show the music player now playin in the notification bar (where you can pause or skip songs. If you go back into the program and use the back button all the way out the program closes.

Ok, now I know how you get confused. Sound Player and Music Player are two different apps. No, Music Player does not require Sound Player in memory. Sound Player can't play in background while Music Player can.
The only way to launch Sound Player is to use My Files File Explorer and open mp3 or other sound files directly. On the other hand, Music Player can only be launched from app launcher and it offers following additional features:
1. Support albums and playlists.
2. Support 5.1ch playback on headphones
3. Support playback on the background.

That was some odd notations I made while I had a task manager installed last week. I just tried what you said and you are 100% exactly right! Phweeeh thats a relief. I was worried it would go back to not working later. Thanks for the insight.

My music player shuts off when I launch the camera app. Gingerbread I think you found a legitimate bug.
Does anyone have a replacement for sound player (not music player) that can run in the background? I'm sick of having streaming podcasts end when I need to do something else with my phone.

I think that people who have very large music collections will find that the player shuts off when they go into certain applications. My feeling is that this is Android's internal memory manager subroutine figuring that the audio player is eating up way too much memory, most likely due to the database being loaded the entire time the player is running, and deciding to close that one program rather than ten others to free up the same amount of space. How much memory does your player eat up while running?
The Sound Player is opening instead of the Music Player
On my Vibrant, a .mpga file used to open using the Music Player but now the Sound Player is opening instead. My phone is completely stock, never rooted and no aps downloaded, but I can tell which player is opening: after the player opens, I close it and then press and hold the home key to see which program just opened by noting the first program name in the list of the 6. (The two player's interfaces look almost identical so it is easy to think that the Music Player is opening when the Sound Player is the one actually opening.)
Some possible clues to the cause: I had just used the sound recorder for the first time. It creates .amr files. The .amr files showed up in the Music Player's playlist, but the file wouldn't play; so I browsed directly to the file using Files, clicked on the .amr file and the Sound Player opened the file. But now the Sound Player its opening .mpga files instead of the Music Player and my Music Player's playlist is now empty. (At least that is what I think the sequence of events were.)
I imagine that resetting the phone to factory default would fix it, but I'll have to learn how to backup my address book, web favorites, and goggle map starred items.)
I posted here because I believe I have detected accurately what is happening (maybe not the cause, but the fact that the wrong player is opening), and you experts might be able to suggest a workaround or get the bug fixed.

The mp3 must be in the music folder on the sdcard in order for music player to play in the background.
Not true. I've had music in other folders that got pulled into my music library.

Try force a media scan to see if it fixes your Music Player playlist problem.
I'm having problems with audio being behind video while using bluetooth.
I can't find any video players on the market (play store now) that enable a programmable delay - wondering if anyone knows a player that can do it?
I'm having problems with avi's, specifically XviD video, mp3 audio, written with Nandub v1.0rc2. A few years old. Although pretty much every video I have gives delay problems.
I'm running a TF101, Android Vers 3.2.1, bluetooth vers 6.24, kernel vers 2.6.36.4+ (1.2GHZ accelerated), build HTK75.revolver-3.11.1_epad-8.6.5.21-20111216.
And using MX Player Pro 1.6B. Tried a few other players, tried via Skifta, tried off the micro SD card, and confirmed no audio delay via Windows Media Player on my Win7-64 box.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dice player has it, but it´s limited to +1 sec or -1 sec. I´m searching for a player with at least +5 sec or -5 sec... Did you already find it at this time?

I know this is an old thread... but I finally sorted it out. I reset my tf101 to stock HC, then let Asus update it by FOTA to ICS, v4.0.3, and build number IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.27-20120615. Which looks to be 6 months old... maybe it's Asus' last update for the TF101.
Anyways, I still got the bluetooth audio delay. About half a second. Making movies unwatchable. After a bit of trolling the net I found out BSplayer has a variable audio delay in a recent update. Tried it, and it WORKED, after setting delay to 550ms. So I've dumped MX player that I've used since the start, and as soon as my credit card gets replaced I'm paying for the full version of BS player. I found MX player to be great, over the 12 months I've used it, but it hasn't fixed the delay issue, so it's gone.
Now it's time to try a Revolver ICS ROM... I miss being able to close background apps, and I miss having a charge indicator for the dock battery.
And I still can't play 720p .mkv video without converting it to baseline profile .mp4. - maybe I'll upgrade to a nexus 10 one day.
I transfered some 720p .mkv files to my tablet (external sd) and the video plays fine in both the built in player and in mx player but I don't get any sound. If I play a smaller .avi file it plays fine with sound in both players. Any ideas?
Sorry if it has been posted before.
try using another player like diceplayer. I used to have this problem when playing mini 720p with the stock player, but not with the diceplayer
I'll just leave this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686675
Long story short: use software decoding for the audio.
Dice player works fine. Can I somehow watch full screen with out the black row with the three dots in de bottom?
Starting to hate this tablet more and more every day..
If you're rooted, get GMD GestureControl from the Play Store, and install Busybox.
Im noot rooted. Will probably root when a good port of AOKP is out

Why hate this tablet? it's the 3rd best atm!
And it's not the tablet's fault! Your video might have an unsupported audio format, or it may be corrupted.. Try playing the video from your tab on the pc. And can you precise what format is the audio?

New device, new fw, new problems. Most will be fixed by updates. The build.prop tweaks, for instance, made my .17 DE internet browsing _in powersave mode_ totally lag free (!).
You should wait for firmware updates, though. I'm afraid of what will happen if you accidentally brick your device.
Sound in players is accomplished by choosing software decoding of the audio.
i got an HTC one x device recently and i tried to play a HD movie on it it was 720p BRRip x264 AAC. the movie played smoothly, but the was a problem every time i try to forward the movie to a certain time it skips to a completely different time i tried to install 3rd party programs, still didnt help. so any one know what's the problem?
P.S : my device it up to date and running on android 4.1.1
if u need more info just ask and ill reply as fast as i can. thanks
I personally use a third party app for movies and stuff due to more codec avail . There is a couple good players out there, I use mx player , I think there is vlc player for android, do a little searching around and you should be real happy with another player
Edit: try it on diff movies it may just be that video
