App for stolen device - Android Apps and Games

I have a nook color that was recently stolen from me. It is possible for me to still install applications on the device via the android market. I was wondering if there were any apps that would lock the device upon installation without the end user having to set it up. Even more preferably if this app would link to the google account set up on the phone and submit unlock details, as well as tracking information based on its wifi connections.

Try plan b on market from lookout it will track it but it won't lock it

WARNING - Camera360 Security Risk

The latest Camera360 update demands a strange and dangerous permission - "Change WiFi State". This is defined as follows:
"Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points, and to make changes to configured Wi-Fi networks."
The apps already has internet access. But change WiFi state means it can not only turn your WiFi on and off, but it can add or delete to your access points, and read/change other information like encrypted passwords.
I emailed the developer (in China) and they just keep emailing me back asking what version I am using. He obviously doesn't want to answer the question!
I've noticed this "permission creep" in many other apps. The latest Firefox Android app wants access to global system setting, address book, and accounts. The latest YouTube app can take pictures and videos without your knowledge.
There are a few apps that I no longer update. I also use DroidWall to block cameras and other apps from internet access.
Stay Away from Camera360!
I use droidwall as well, actually extensively. I block everything but the necessities.

Now that look at it, some of the permissions that Camera360's Chinese developers want are pretty scary:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vStudio.Android.Camera360
Here are the most dangerous as of today:
NETWORK COMMUNICATION
FULL INTERNET ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets.
YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
READ SENSITIVE LOG DATA
Allows the app to read from the system's various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the tablet, potentially including personal or private information. Allows the app to read from the system's various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private information.
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. An app with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.
SYSTEM TOOLS
RETRIEVE RUNNING APPS
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. Malicious apps may discover private information about other apps.
CHANGE WI-FI STATE
Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points, and to make changes to configured Wi-Fi networks.
Camera 360 Browser Popups!
The Chinese developers that made Camera 360 removed the draconian permissions. But now, it has a more evil behavior. When you start your phone, Camera 360 starts a background process that displays popup ads on some websites with the default Android browser!
Thread on it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33130018
Uninstall Camera 360 and watch your phone and your browser run faster!
Uninstalled :good:
Shouldn't this thread be a sticky, and, posted somewhere owners of all different models of phones will see?
Also, surely there must be some kind of app which lets you install apps without actually granting them those permissions? Some kind of permission stripper?
I'm not sure of any apps that control permissions directly but the is one called DroidWall which can block apps from communication over WiFi and/or your mobile network. Needs superuser/root access.

I have DroidWall, and Camera360 is blocked internet access. But it is still able to hook into the Android browser and show popups.
Not sure how that happens. You can try downloading AdAway from the market and see if that gets red of it.

Is there an app that will allow you to locate your phone from your computer?

Is there an app that will allow you to locate your phone from your computer if its lost? Just wanna install all these things on my phone right now for precautions so I never lose it or if i do I can find it
PS: Not only an app that allows you to locate your phone but an app that also lets you wipe memory or lock the phone from your computer if you don't want people going through your personal files? (Free App or one time buy please, I'm not trying to pay monthly.)

I've heard cerebus to be really useful with a lot of cool tools (it's a one time paid app though)
Here's the link for it
I'm a cerberus user and I really like this app. After install app on your phone, log on cerberus website and manage your terminal as you like it. You can shoot a picture just to see who take your phone. Track with GPS your position. Delete everything inside the microsd or other memory. Basically is an anti theft app. If someone wrong for 3 times your unlock code cerberus shoot a picture with front camera if available and send it to your email..... Amazing....
search lbe in google play. free
Theres app called find my phone or something like it. You install it from your computer to your phone and it will locate it for you.

Samsung Galaxy has this feature built in
App
If you have apple device then with the use of FindMyPhone app you can search your iPhone, iPad location.
I use Cerberus as well. Another feature not mentioned is that not only can you see where your phone is, you can download the history of its location.

AVG and Kaspersky Mobile Security have a track option, GotYa! also works fairly well. (And has some nice anti-theft features, such as remotely bricking your device.)
Keep in mind that they work better on a device with 3G than without. Tracking my WiFi-only tablet (without WiFi on) only resulted in an area the size of the entire neighbourhood (3km²).
Kaspersky did an excellent job of tracking down my friend's phone to within half a meter when he got lost in Prague, though.
airdroid has those feature that you said
Through FindMyiPhone you can find your phone.
Find my droid is a good one

you should definitely check out my lookout.

You can use Google Maps with Latutide. It work well :good:
AVG seems to be very good.
But no software will find your phone once it's turned off!
I like Cerberus....
With TrustGo you can do it.
It is an antivirus solution that can do all things you said. Even has an option to avoid that someone could uninstall the app without a password. It is light and has a data usage manager

[GUIDE] 17-10-2013 Guide to Track Android Mobile | Antitheft | Secure your droid

"Hello Android buddies!". Sounds really cool, right??
Obviously, Android has created a new revolution in the mobile world because of its Open Source features. Though it is Open Source, we can see lot of advantages and disadvantages. I've seen many geeks in android also lot more noobs. More than 1 Billion android users are there in this world and the count is getting increased day by day. Even now many users are reading this blog in your android phones. If so, a Happy news in waiting for you guys.
We are spending huge bucks in buying a Android device but How you feel when it got stolen are Misplaced somewhere? Don't worry guys, you are at right place. Yeah, here we gonna see how to secure your device from thieves hand also how to track it effectively. You know what the word "Effectively" means and you really agree it once you are done with this cool method.
For Android geeks - Best method to track/protect your droid (Rooted devices)
For Noobs - Sorry for you guys, small loop hole is there (NON Rooted devices)
Before we customize our device for tracking, lets consider what a thief will do if he/she steals your mobile.
Power Off your mobile to prevent getting calls and sms or simply to get off from tracking.
If lockscreen protection is enabled, he/she tries to remove the phone battery (in case of removable battery mobiles).
Remove SIM card from your mobile. At this point all users will lose their hope in getting their mobile back.
Factory reset your mobile.
If he/she is a geeky, flashing new ROM is also possible(bit funny but its fact).
To overcome all these darkest part, we gonna use 3 different apps in our process.
STEP 1:
Enable Password protected lock-screen from settings and I hope all users know how to do it. Now your droid's data is protected securely.
STEP 2:
Install Smart Lockscreen protector app from Playstore and ON the Enable Lockscreen option under Power menu settings.
Now this app won't let you to Power Off your mobile from Lockscreen. Its one of the best app for devices with non-removable battery. Problem 1 is solved.
STEP 3:
Install AutomateIT app from Playstore or spend few bucks on AutomateIT PRO which unlocks all features. This app allows user to enable Data/WIFI/GPS using SMS commands. For devices running android version prior to GingerBread 2.3, GPS can be enabled by any third party apps however devices above GB 2.3, Google has blocked the access hence ROOT permission is required to enable this feature. Sorry for the users with non-rooted droids. Check the picture to create trigger and action if you are using the app for the first time. To enable the "Composite Action" in the Action column, you need to unlock the feature at the bottom of the list which asks you to create account. Just Go ahead.
Once you are done with the configuration, test it by sending the sms with specified format gpson from another number and see what happens. You'll receive an acknowledgment sms that the config has been applied and all the options which you've specified are enabled. So if you come to know that your mobile has been stolen, this sms commands let you to activate GPS remotely and we can track effectively compared to Network location. Big thanks to the developer of this awesome app.
STEP 4:
Now we are going to use 2 different steps to track the devices running android version 2.2 and above.
Using Android Device Manger
Using Cerberus Antitheft app
Android Device Manger:
Thanks to Google for allowing us to track our device associated with the Gmail account. To locate your device in ADM, you need to apply some settings. Open Google Settings app and enable the options in picture.
Goto Settings->Security->Phone administrator and Enable Android Device Manger. Now open Android Device Manager from the browser and you can track the device, also it allows you to remotely lock and wipe user data.
Though ADM allows you to locate your device, the features are very limited and I hope Google will update more features in near future.
Cerberus Anti-theft:
I'm sure you guys will surely attracted by this awesome app. Many have heard about this app but still I need to explain its features here but sadly I don't have time for it. Hope you know what I mean. It has hell lot of features which allows user to get device info remotely, call logs, sms logs, Send sms to specified number about the SIM change which is one of the best feature which solves problem 3.
Install Cerberus Antitheft app from Playstore. You'll get one week trail period after that you need to buy license to continue the service and its worth spending few bucks on this app. First installation allows you to create User account and enable the following options
You can register 3 mobile numbers to receive notification about the SIM change. Login to the Cerberus site and there you can see all the features provided by this app and I'm damn sure that you can surely locate your device using any one of the features.
STEP 5:
Catch the thief and show who you are..!! :good:
DEVICE NOW SECURED
Even though we considered so many things in mind to protect our device, you must be very careful from looters. I can't guarantee that this method will work 100% but surely I'll give 95% to rooted mobile and 90% to others. Also keep in mind that you've limited time period to track & recover your mobile as it decreases along with the device battery percentage.

Best App for Tracking Lost Phone

Hi all,
Can someone suggest the best app for locating a lost android phone?
After nearly loosing my S4 last night (running for a bus, fell out my pocket and ended up in a ditch...fortunately I bussed back as a last hope and found it!!!) I am searching for the beat app for this.
Thanks for any suggestions..

Almost all antivirus companies have device tracking enabled through web.if you configured and recalled the data.you can track the location of phone and can remote swipe/sms and many more.I have tested that using kaspersky and NOD32 and webroot.this is the only chance to track else after stolen people throw away SIM,format the phone or change the IMEI so impossible to track back.
I'm using avast! (Free) It has quite an extensive lost/stolen system built into it aswell as all the antivirus stuff. One thing I like about avast! (Not sure who else has this) it has a setting called 'Geo fencing'. Once set, if your phone leaves a, user set, distance from your current point, it automatically locks your phone and triggers any other protection activities, and sends a SMS to a pre-set cell number. Good for night clubs or busy shopping malls incase you get pick pocketed.

Avast! is pretty good when it comes to tracking.
Thanks for suggestions. Don't necessarily wanna install an anti virus on the phone.. Find they slow it down ( I know some people may disagree, but that's not the topic)

Android now has a built in phone locator which can be activated in Settings > Security > Device administrators. Check Android Device Manager.
Uses Google's push service so it doesnt poll battery.
Link to web interface: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
In addition, I use AndroidLost from Play Store. Runs through Google servers so no background usage. Has an advanced plethora of controls on the web interface. Check it out.
Google Device Manager
I have enjoyed using Google Device Manager. It has the ability to ring my phone for 5 mintues so I can find it easier. As well as the ability to locate it. Although like everything else depends on data connection. So if I lost in a park with a dead battery... NO DICE.

AndroidLost supports SMS controls. You could send an SMS message to activate GPS and auto reply the location, or you could send a message to enable WiFi/data and track that way.

agreed, i use android device manager. used to use the samsung version, but now that google offers it then i'll use that one.
I used to use Avast, but now I can just use Google's Device Manager or even CyanogenMod's which is crude for now.
Device manager seems to work well. It allows you to locate the device from another browser using Google maps, allows yo to ring the phone even if it's on vibrate or silent and once set up allows you too lock/erase all data from it.

cerberus is the best option for little money ( 3 € ) can have about 5 devices, and allows for many things, what I'm wearing and not disappointed.
Check out "Wheres my droid" from the play store. It is full of great features. Can set up triggers from text or phone numbers to make it ring. You can get is location from sending a specific text to your phone. You can lock it down, take a pic and even wipe it clean. Great app

Actually, this is a really important point. Which of these apps are still able to perform their advertized functions after it is being lost? Supposedly, whoever is in possession of the phone will through out SIM card and do a factory reset so all apps that use google services will not work anymore as they are Signed out... Are apps from antivirus suites immune to this?

When you lost you phone , how to find it back even you do not install Find My Phone ?

When you lost a phone , how to find it back even you do not install Find My Phone ?
When you lost a phone , If you have installed Find My Phone application and activate it, it will be OK to locate, lock or even wipe your phone.
Actually you can still install Find My Phone even your phone is lost or stollen, and you do not need to setup anything.
Here is 2 steps -
1) Go to Play Store Website and Install Find My Phone —
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phonefindandlock
2) Text message where is my phone to your phone from your friend's or family member's phone, and your phone will alarm and return the location when it receives the message.
Note:
1) Text the message after installation. The installation will take around 30-60 seconds.
2) Try to do these as soon as possible when you can not find your phone.
3) Good luck
Didn't Google implement a device search and remote wipe option a while ago?

How To Track Your Lost Android Phone Without Installed Tracking App, this is the most simple steps to do it.

contact with police
the best way is contact with the police and provide your imei number

This app will make ppl feel very secure about their phones It is a must have app for everyone
Is it stealth?
OK, so I got four phones stolen from our store and, although I have the Life360 app, there's a huge radius of the location.
So I've been looking for ways to get into the phones and see if the person has taken pictures so I can identify who stolen the phones to the police.
Two questions: if I install this remotely, will it show on the phone or can it be installed without notifications? And once it is installed, can I remotely retrieve files from the phone?
ThankS!
