[Q] "Sorry I'm Having Trouble Communicating..." - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been trying to unlock my Samsung Focus with ChevronWP7. I have followed >>this<< guide, step by step, but after I click both boxes and click on "Unlock", I get "Sorry, I'm having trouble communicating with the phone. Please make sure it's connected using USB. Please start the Zune application." So then I tried another guide(can't find the link right now), which included disabling the network, using WPConnect.exe, etc, but that didn't work either. I am completely at a loss of why this damn error keeps popping up. I restarted both my PC and phone numerous times, I've tried different USB ports and cables, but nothing is working. Anyone have any tips?
My OS version is 7.0.7390.0, Firmware Revision is 2103.11.3.3 and Zune version is 4.7.1404.0 if that helps at all.
Thank you, maxx.

I had same problem and I used the guide below and it worked on the first try. Most importantly was STEP 2 for me. Uninstalling Zune and using the version from the link provided in the guide at step 2.
[Tutorial] Unlock your phone; prevent relock & prepare for updates!

Well damn, it says my firmware isn't compatible with CWP7. I guess that and my Zune version is why it doesn't work. Is it possible to revert back to a previous firmware version?

try to downgrade to previous version (if possible) from zune.

If your phone came with NoDo (7392 or 7390) installed the only way to unlock at the moment is to flash a previous firmware version. Check the forums if there is one for your provider and phone.

If i'm not wrong you can checkwith Ansar's rom.

Have you resolved the problem yet? It seems there is something wrong with the "hosts" file. Generally, this file is in folder "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc". Open it, delete all lines like "192.168.1.101 developerservices.windowsphone.com". Then, save it, try ChevronWP7 again in admin permission, it should be OK. If still not works, please send email to me, [email protected].

maxx,
Chevron WP7 DOES NOT work with 7390 and above. As you have found out, the only option is to downgrade the firmware to an older version and then unlocking it. I tried searching and was not able to find it ( or I did not know what the hell I was looking for, HTC HD7 user here )
If your Focus came with a older version and you updated using Zune, you can try restoring
Open Zune--> Settings-->Phone-->Updates-->Restore
Try posting in the Samsung Focus forum. You might get some help.Good luck...

[Q] Mango update issues (omnia 7)

I was pretty excited to see the Mango update is now available for the masses.. I mean those of us who don't have our devices unlocked as a developer phone so I decided to try my hands on it. But now I have some issues. When I open ZUNE I see update is available.
It tries to update but than after rebooting and finishing step 2/2: ERROR Code 80180048. apppers
I tried this several times on Win7 X64 and x86 but I still have the same problem.

I tried but didn't help
This could be happening for 2 reasons... Apparently your phone is getting confused by which update to download.
1) Did you unlock at any point with Chevron? If so you probably didn't check off all the languages. If this is the problem just look for the Microsoft approved walsh fix, very easy to find.
Then restore your phone to the version before it was provisioned for mango and apply the walsh fix. VERY IMPORTANT CHECK OFF EVERY LANGUAGE. Then restart the mango process and people have posted that this should work.
2) If, like me, your a registered developer and still getting this error then unfortunately I've only been able to find 1 fix. Microsoft is working on correcting the problem but has said it will take a couple weeks. So on to the fun part. You need to flash your phone back to factory form. Flash not reset. You lose everything. Good this is your purchase history, contacts and calendar should be attached to your live id, if not you might want to sync them.
To flash your rom just search these wonderful forums to find it. All I searched for was "flash focus rom" and found a thread with the files and instructions were in the files. Once your phone has been flash you should have no problem updating to mango although you have to go through all the original updates and re install and set up your phone.
Hope this helps... it worked for me.

Thanks for reaching out to help me but I think I will give up now. I did all what you told me.. I read from other places even before you responded but it still didn't work. Am thinking its a problem with my Samsung Omnia phone so I guess I have to wait till the Final release of mango comes out. I had also the same issue with NoDo, I had to wait till the official Samsung fix came before I could finally get it.. guess this is like that too.
Sorry I couldn't help more. I have an unlocked ATT Focus running on Rogers... I was able to flash an Omnia 7 ROM on it but that was horrible because the phone literally began to mix the up and down and the portrait and landscape modes.
Did you try and flash your omnia back to stock?
I couldn't return back to the the stock ROM. My boot-loader is probably damaged . When I press the the volume up + and camera button to enter into download mode all I see is the black and white screen ..

cannot get to 7712 on my Samsung Focus

Hi all,
I have tried following these two methods to try and get to 7220, but I always get stuck on firmware 7304->7112 (first, second). Thereby, never actually getting to 7112.
Every time I go through the update procedure to 7112, it progresses half way, then it stops and reboots my phone with the error 80004005. I have tried:
clean NoDo install, and re-trying
removing the SD card
doing a hard reset on the phone
No matter what I try, the same thing happens when trying to get to 7112. How did other Samsung Focus users get to 7112?
This could be related to your version of Zune. The support tools and Zune must be on the same version.
You may have to reinstall the beta version of Zune 4.8 to make this work.
I can't remember the error code I received, but this is how I sorted it.
There is a post somewhere else that explains how to do it.

thanks for your response. It seems like I need to unlock my phone first. What is the current defacto unlock method? Is it still Chevron?

[Q] Can't update to 4.2 at all. Please help?

I've been browsing these forums all night and I for the life of me cannot just find a simple answer. This update came out a while ago and I had no idea about it, so hopefully someone can help me.
Literally, all I'm trying to do is upgrade to 4.2. I've never done anything at all to my phone, it's always been stock. I'm looking for help because the OTA won't work at all, it said I was on 4.1, so it checked for updates and downloaded like a 400mb file, and it turns back on and I'm still at 4.1??
I went to HTC's site and saw that I could just manually install it, but of course it's never that easy. I did all the steps exactly, but when it starts to download and gets to the black HTC screen, my computer always says it doesn't recognize it and can't install drivers (error 170), and then it fails to update. I've tried this on both machines that run windows 8.1. I feel like I've tried everything..I tried running it in different compatibility modes, run as admin, and then I read somewhere that you update it when you're on the fastboot screen. So I tried that but when I'm in the bootloader my computer doesn't recognize my phone at all.
I'm stuck on what to do at this point. I can borrow a computer that has windows 7 on it, if that would help at all. Any help is appreciated!
Not enough info. What carrier version is the device? What region/country are you in? What is your current software number (not Android version).
When you say "manually" update, I think you are talking about RUU. What is the RUU version (file name)?
WIndows 8.1 is probably your main issue with the RUU. Win 8.1 is not compatible with HTC drivers. Anything before 8.1 should work. But again, you need to provide more info.
Hey man thanks a bunch! I should've provided more info, although I just tried it using a windows 7 laptop and it worked with no issues thanks!

Bricked S8+..... i think cant access recovery

hey everyone, im new here, just got a Samsung s8+ last week. had it rooted and all working well until today, had problems so i went to reflash twrp and when was unticking auto reboot in odin i accidentally ticked "nand erase"..... and i didnt notice until it was too late.
Now i cant get into recovery mode, i can get to the download mode but it wont flash the twrp at all it keeps failing. all i get is a black screen with samsung logo when i try to start it up. i am downloading factory firmware as i write this and going to see if that'll flash. any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance, hope this is the right place to post it.
Hey
If you can get to download mode, you just install the original firmware from smartswitch,I think you have that option to recover from that program, and install the original firmware.
Or just do it in Odin and find the firmware on SamM.
Lots of work for you,but thats the only thing I can come up with.
Then you have to root it again and everything with it.

How is it failing? Are you getting an error? Is Odin detecting your device?

No worry
You just have to install Microsoft visual c++ 2008 x86,after you have done that,no more errors in smartswitch.
Try that,and let us know
Long time since I used Odin now,but try the first thing first

Morning Mate,
Smart Switch (and KIES on Win 10) requires some old stuff to work. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 My advice however would be to try and flash your carriers stock firmware with ODIN or if you want an easier way you can use KIES by doing the following -
- Install C++ 2008 SP1 from link above to get it to work on Windows 10
- Install KIES www.samsung.com/au/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/ - I'm in Australia so that's my closest but you can still get it from there no worries.
- Also select install 'unified driver' during install if you have not already installed Samsung USB drivers to your PC
- Fire up KIES and from the top menu select 'Tools' and from the drop down menu select 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation'
- Enter in your model number - for me it's SM-G955F (make sure model is all in CAPS or it will not work). Now it will present you with a S/N dialog box. This is the tricky part if your phone is bricked. Chances are you have not written down your serial number. You can get your serial number from the back of your phone towards the bottom in really small print, or you can get it from the box it came in from purchase if you happened to have kept that.
- Enter in the serial number and follow the instructions, it's easy as. This will install your stock firmware and you can start again. Provided there is no damage to the phone this method will always get you out of the proverbial as a last resort and it's faster than downloading firmware from updato.com or other places.
The fastest way is by using the SamFirm tool to download but it takes some knowledge and I have lost the link to where I got it (the link at XDA is dead now and refers you to updato.com). The method with KIES above will always work, is fairly fast and pretty easy for the newbies or experienced alike.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more assistance :good:
Thanks heaps mate, im also in australia too. have installed all the software and is updating and installing as i write this, all seems to be going well so far, thank you so much your a life saver i was starting to worry as wtf i could do with this brick haha i will keep you posted and let you know if i have nay problems. Thanks to everyone else for their help and contribution this forum is awesome. What would you recommend in regards to rooting the phone again use the twrp recovery and magisk-v14.0 root?
thanks again
I was just about to write a post about how it wouldnt work.... twice in a row it kept failing when it went to install and initialize... 3rd time lucky it ****ing worked! i have a stock phone now all working sweet. Thanks so much to everyone you guys are literally lifesavers!
LEGENDS! Happiest man alive right now.

Upgrading a G3 For Dummies

I've been getting help in the Newbie thread, but it's time I start a new topic, since it's getting harder and harder to find replies.
All I'm trying to do is upgrade an old LG from Android 5.0 to 6.0. That's it.
I've got the drivers installed. I've downloaded three different versions of Flash Tool. The only one I got to do anything was "Flash Tool 2014".
The first time I ran it (following the directions on the web page where I found it), I picked "CDMA", "DIAG", and "CSE Flash". I was able to pick "Other Country" and "English" and got the phone to start installing. However, it only got as far as 4% and gave me an error. Now, when I run it, I pick "Other Country" and can't even pick a language. They're all blank. If I continue, all the messages consist of Question Marks, however, it still gets as far as 4% before stopping.
The phone is bricked in Download Mode. I have tried two different USB cables, two different computers, one of which has Windows 7 & 8.1 installed. I've tried all different USB ports to make sure I'm on USB 2.0 and not 3.0. I've tried running in Administrator Mode.
I see many posts about the 4% Error. The solution involves downloading a "wx.dll" file and putting it in the C:\system32\LGMOBILEAX\PHONE folder, but that didn't work. I also so one that said when you get the error, take the battery out of the phone, unplug it, put it all back together, and then Continue. That didn't work either.
What else can I possibly do? Thanks.
Hey, I have been trying to find a rom for 6.0 and I can't find anything. The only way to get to 6.0 is through ota. If you have 5.0 then your lucky. Ota can only be used if you still have a sim card that's active in the phone. There isn't roms for stock android 6. I would try and help but I can't.
If anyone finds away to get stock 6.0 please let me know.
Talking about your issue of your phone being bricked, there is many unbrick methods. I personally used https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...n-qualcomm-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-mode.2933853/ it helped and fixed my issue. I still had my device info wiped off my phone somehow but at least it works. Your at a issue with a flash tool, fresh reflash with that method I sent if you can use it and start over. I can guide you through it if needed.
You might be stuck at a stand still, tell me what your phone says in device manager. You probably flashed a bad firmware. In that case I used the method above.
