[ROM+ADDONs][25/08] GingerWally v1.5 | STABLE | STOCK GB2.3.3 | 180MB - Desire Android Development

This ROM is based on the official GingerBread release from HTC (3.14.405.1).
The main feature is that it fits into a Data++ partition table without needing SD-Card partitioning and at the same time stays as close as possible to a Stock Sense ROM.
In order to do that, apart from the usual rooting, deodexing, etc., I removed all the applications that can be downloaded from the market and all the HTC applications that I dislike (see list).
Starting from v1.3 you have the possibility to flash back one or more applications that were removed (flashable zips/mods and instructions in 2nd post).
So, what you get:
- HTC Desire Gingerbread 3.14.405.1
- Rooted (+ ChainsDD SuperUser 2.3.6.3)
- Stock HTC kernel
- Busybox
- Zipaligned
- Deodexed framework
- Odexed apps
- 207MB free on the data partition (as of GingerWally v1.5)
- QuickSettings in Status bar (as in Sense 2.1)
- Some apps removed (see list)
- Market 3.1.3
- All live wallpapers and almost all ringtones removed
- Power-menu 4-in-1
- Updated fonts
- Flashable ZIPs of all the removed apps (2nd post)
- FIX for HTC launcher occasional restarts (see post #2)
Note that I will never apply fixes/tweaks/mods without explaining them in details.
This means that you can be sure that you know what you are installing (I hate when rom cookers write in their changelog "other tweaks", "speed improvements", etc., without telling what they actually did.)

V1
Initial release
I am very open to suggestions and feedbacks, but I will NOT include A2SD+, D2EXT, or any other tweaks or mods that make the ROM diverging from the Stock one.
Someone might not agree but I always found that running everything in the internal memory is faster than on any SD-CARD.
So for me the answer was making a good use of the partitions, rather then moving stuff to the SD.
After first boot I get ~207MB space on /data (on v1.5), which is sufficient for my usage.
Clearly, A2SD+ remains the only choice for those users who install a very large number of applications, but I am not one of them and 200MB for me are fine.
Requirements:
- Data++ Hboot
Suggestions:
- Latest Radio (5.17.05.23)
Instructions:
Be sure your phone is rooted, S-OFFed, and with Data++ Hboot.
1- Backup your data
2- Copy ROM zip and (optionally) add-ons to sdcard
3- Reboot to recovery
4- Wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache
5- install the zip from sd-card
6- (optional) install add-ons
7- Reboot
First boot might take a while...

Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks to:
- Dsixda for the kitchen;
- MrLuje for the QuickSettings on status bar.

ATTENTION:
If you want to flash any add-on in GingerWally v1.5+, you first have to free some space in /system. (The default /system partition is totally full)
You can choose any option in the MODS section to free up some space.
MODS:
- Downgrade Market 3.1.3 -> 2.3.6 (mirror) --> This frees up ~1.5MB
- Partial deodex light (mirror) --> This frees up ~3MB by installing deodexed versions of 2 applications (Mail and Contacts).*
- Partial deodex medium (mirror)--> This frees up ~5.6MB by installing deodexed versions 5 applications (Mail, Contacts, Album, Phone, and Settings).*
* By installing the deodexed versions of these apps, we are saving some space in /system at the expenses of some space in /data for the dalvik-cache. Nothing to worry about. This should not have any other drawback, but I suggest to apply these mods only if you need to flash one or more of the following add-ons.
REMOVED APPS:
You can flash one or more zip files directly from recovery.
If you install any of these add-ons after the first boot of the ROM, then you need to clear Sense cache (Settings->Applications->All->HTC Sense->Clear Data).

Old Add-ons:
- Downgrade Market 3.0.27 -> 2.3.6 (mirror) - ONLY FOR GINGERWALLY 1.4
APPLIED TWEAKS:
These are the only tweaks I applied to this ROM, everything else is STOCK.
1) Fix for Sense occasional restarts (from GingerWally_v1.3)
Added this line to build.prop:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=-12
A short explaination:
The OS tags each process with a sort of priority value (oom_adj), which helps him to decide which application must be killed in situations of low memory.
I have seen that htc.launcher had:
- oom_adj=0 when in foreground
- oom_adj=6 when in background
(lower values = higher priority = less likely to be killed)
With that line in build.prop we are telling the OS to assign a fixed value of oom_adj=-12 to the home app (in our case htc.launcher). In other words, we are telling the OS not to kill htc.launcher even when it is in background (unless in dramatic out of memory situations).

2) Big market download with small cache partition (from GingerWally_v1)
Edited init.rc (according to this) adding the following lines:
- In the export section:
export DOWNLOAD_CACHE /mnt/asec/download
- In the section "# Secure container public mount points":
# Market downloads
mkdir /mnt/asec/download 0777 root system
mount tmpfs tmpfs /mnt/asec/download mode=0777,gid=1000

Hi, i've downloaded the file, few questions...
* Is there is any specific install procedure?
* See above the latest radio is suggested, does this need installing separately?
* If for some unforeseen reason i need to drop back to the original stock rom (2.29) will i be able to? (i have the original wwe 2.29 file for my phone).
cheers

The usual dance:
1- Copy zip to sdcard
2- Reboot to recovery
3- Wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache
4- install the zip from sd-card

Yes, definitely.
It seems you are quite new to flashing.
Be sure you are S-OFF and with Data++ HBoot. My ROM is optimized for that.
If you are with the Stock partition table, there are other nice ROMs out there (like the one from Teppic74, or Moni69).
cheers,

I am quite new to flashing, i understand the root/s-off procedure.
Data++ Hboot ? , im unsure about that.
also does the zip file need renaming or can i copy it to SD as is?

If you s-offd you phone, you can add a custom hboot. Go to alpahrev's site www.alpharev.nl and download a custom hboot. You can replace your hboot using android flasher which can be found on XDA, just search for it. Also, you don't need to rename the zip file. Clear user data, format you memory card and your ext2/3/4 partitions if you have them, than copy the zip file to you memory card and flash it form recovery. Good luck

Hey there.
I'm also new to rooting&flashing (long-time WM user here), so please bare with me. Silly question - does this ROM have the stock 2.3 RUU kernel, or is that not possible until HTC releases it's source code?

Yes, it has the stock (closed-source) kernel that was included in the last RUU.
I'll add this to the first post.

I mirrored your rom to help out a little.

Done !
thanks to everyone who's posted help and advice.
S-Off/Rooted

Checked all MD5 Hash's, and performed backups, for 'Just-in-case'.
Loving the rom, exactly what i wanted, big BIG thanks to Wally80.

@Meaple: thanks for the mirror. Very appreciated.
@dsbnz: glad it works fine.

Hi, wally80. Can you add Flickr as addon?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

in addition to the above question from Nerten
I'm wondering, is it possible to strip all extra apps from the rom (including Office), and supply them as apk's in an additional zip file, or are there legal implications with this?
One question. When you select Shutdown from the power menu, it doesnt seem to actually shutdown, more a deep sleep mode?, as a result im unable to "Volume Down+Power" into recovery for backup. I have to remove the battery, then reinsert to do so. Any idea's? not a major as its something i wont need to do often. just curious.
P.S. still really really liking this rom, very fluid in graphics, and seems much quicker than the previous HTC rom (2.29). Kind brings back memories of a slimmed down Windows OS, without that fat. Still feels very stock which i like.

I think i found the answer to this question..
seems to be related to Fastboot (Settings/Applications - Fastboot) switching it off allows me to Volume Down+Power to backup.
I'm guessing the Fastboot feature in the GUI allows just that, a faster boot? Seemed quicker anyway with it on.

Yes, the Fastboot feature is almost like hibernation instead of complete shutdown. That's why you cannot enter into recovery if you use it.
I usually disable it, because I don't reboot often, and usually when I do it I want a full reboot.
P.S. We live in opposite sides of the earth. When you post a question we all sleep here... But it seems you always find the right answer by yourself.

I don't know actually if there are legal implications. I prefer not to mess with apps that are not freely available.
But if you like to play a little bit around you can open the ROM zip file (with winrar or 7zip), delete from /system/app/ the apps you don't want, and flash the modified zip file (remember to disable signature check in recovery, otherwise it won't flash).
Some apk are safe to remove (e.g. quickoffice), other might cause troubles. You can find a lot of threads in XDA with lists of applications that are safe to remove.
Anyway, you will not gain anything in terms of free-space, because the space that you are freeing on /system is not used by applications that you install afterwards.

Very happy to hear that! I also find the ROM very fast.
Considering also the stability from being almost-stock, and the lot of free space from using Data++, well, I can't desire more from my Desire. :-D

haven't tried it yet but it looks really impressive. Still some thinks I would change and will put back into this rom, because I think it is a little bit TOO slim, but this is everybody's own decision.
looks really nice and will be tested on the weekend.
looks promising.
a couple of questions; you've removed conversations.apk and messaging.apk. what sms app does your rom use?
i can see that you have removed talk.apk. isn't it needed to be on the phone to access the market?
Good job. Thanks for that tutorial on knocking off some cmg. Can you by any chance tell us how to make those boot only files that other mods put up. It really helps to downgrade that way. I will try this once I am back home from work.
cheers
Very clean Rom, at the moment all work for me, market work perfectly, i will test sms and this evening...

Maybe if you dont do a factory reset before installing the rom (rom does a reset before anyways). So if Talk is setup in the first place its required (I'm guessing), but so far without it works fine. Added screenshot above of market with paypal on screen.
Also tiggggr is right, the messaging apps where replaced with a stock MMS app.

If your talking about things like the Android 2.2.1 - 3.4.2-107 TMobile US modified bootloader. No idea, this flashing method I dicuss does not use/make a modified bootloader. Its just removing the Froyo bootloader and system partitions from the sbf.

Ya I have a notion that Stagefright being enabled for player streaming might be the cause. I'm looking into it.
No problem
Ok no problem, only modify the media.stagefright.enable-player=true to false or use this buil.prop
One thanks for me plz

Was uploading the new version already but thanks.
Yup Stagefright being enabled for the youtube player was causing the issue. Flash the new version and should be all set.
coming from pays 3.3
I found pays 3.3 to be laggy when trying to close apps and the network connection quite slow and jumping between 3G and H a lot. I think the network issue is causing the lag.
coming from pays 3.3 on 3.4.2_145-003. I thought I'd wipe and factory reset before installing Lawnchair.zip
This left me with a clean ROM but with no home app and having wiped in clockwork recovery meant no debug for an ADB push. I didn't check for ADB connection but I found that voice commands would run and that allowed the selection of clockwork, so no need to reflash sbf.
Just a note if anyone sees this.
ROM has booted now and looks good, people shouldn't complain about what's missing, nothing's missing if you have ever used Titanium or Appmonster.

Ya the reason for re-flashing the sbf is because other rom's (and mine) do remove apps from the system folder. Something which a factory reset wont fix.
However, because my rom does include all stock system apps; yes this should work but like you said if your missing a Launcher in your system folder it will make it complicated.
Otherwise, glad to here its up and running.
thank you very much for the work. the downgrade method you just included are new to me. As long as i´m working on DefyFroyoSense Beta01 and cant fix the camera flash problem, i think your way to flash Froyo and keep downgradability will fix this issue. BTW you optimized rom is great for those who wanna have a personalized system running. Thanks again and keep it coming.

Ugh had it turned off, go for it now heh.
I really liked the rom, although what i did experience was a some random lagging occurring.. after switching on the screen the device seemed to hang completely then just as i was about to pull the battery it began working again. i hadnt installed any apps and i had followed all steps exactly.
I had to reflash an alternative rom in the end because of the freezing...
I am looking forward to trying new builds - cant think of any features needed really, it would just be nice to know if others had similar issue to me and if there was a fix for it.

How to install or update:
REQUIREMENTS:
- CM7r2 or stock HBOOT (from Alpharev)
- A 1 to 1.5GB ext4 partition (see partition guide for 4EXT Recovery).
- A recovery with touch drivers: I recommend 4EXT Recovery. Optional but recommended. Must be S-OFF to use 4EXT! (see S-OFF guide).
INSTALLATION:
- For a step-by-step description of the installation process, see Runnymede AIO - Installation guide.
- For help partitioning your SD card, see 4EXT Recovery - Partition guide.

Important install notes:
- If you are coming from another ROM (or another base version of this ROM), perform a full wipe!
- If you are installing an updated version of this ROM with the same base, wipe cache, dalvik cache, system and boot. Then, select the same apps you have selected before in the INSTALLER!
- If you choose AD2SDX script in the installer, let the ROM settle down after first install. If an error occurs, just click "wait" (don't select "close"!). Then reboot. After that, you can restore your apps and settings. (Errors may occur with AD2SDX if you don't reboot first after install!)
- If you select some things in RCTeam Tweaks, you need to turn on WiFi, because some options need to download files from capychimp's server. Also, some options only take effect after a reboot (read the small text beneath the option).
- If you want Beats Audio to work, go to Settings/RCMix3D Tweaks/Miscellaneous Options/Beats Boost and select it. Wait 1 minute, and then reboot.

For missing apps use 4ext recovery
AND A BIG THANKS TO Proz0r FOR MAKING THE INT2SD FOR MY ROM
- More info or questions about the INT2SD:go here.
INT2SD
INT2SD doesn't use symlinks nor bind mounts. Instead of going through a symlink or a bind mount on the data partition, it makes Android write and read directly to and from the ext2/3/4 partition on your SD. INT2SD now, for the first time ever, comes in two flavours tailored to your needs:
INT2SD-M - "Mass"
Main characteristics:
/data on SD ext
number of apps is only limited by ext size
made for people who never have enough apps
requires a faster card
for use with fatsys HBOOT
Description:
The classic "mass" flavour mounts ext to /data, thus eliminating the need for the mtd5 userdata partition. This makes the mtd5 userdata partition unneeded. It is used in conjunction with the fatsys HBOOT and is the prime choice for all app-addicts! If you have a fast card and desire a huge amount of applications, INT2SD-M is for you.
INT2SD-S - "Speed"
Main characteristics:
/data on SD ext, /data/data on internal
/data/data limited to 280 MB (probably enough for more than 100 user apps)
noticeably faster on slower cards
for use with CM7r2 HBOOT
Description:
The new "speed" flavour mounts ext to /data and userdata to /data/data, achieving great speed while still retaining excellent storage capabilities. It's used with the CM7r2 HBOOT. If you have a slower card and are not severely app-hungry, but you still wish to experience the magic of INT2SD, then you will surely like INT2SD-S.
fatsys HBOOT
- More info or questions about the fatsys and hboot:go here.
INT2SD Sense ROMs require a special HBOOT, fatsys. This special HBOOT has 427 MB dedicated for /system, 5 MB for /cache and 5 MB for /data and there is probably no ROM without INT2SD that would work on it properly. It was made so that the largest part of Desire's internal memory can be used for quick access to vital system files by storing them in /system instead of symlinking them to /sd-ext, therefore slowing the entire system down. There is still plenty of space for your apps if you make a large enough SD ext partition, since SD ext gets mounted to /data and the real, 5 MB mtd5 userdata partition goes unused. So, /data on SD ext, huge /system and no symlinks! Before flashing a Sense INT2SD ROM, make sure you have flashed the fatsys HBOOT!

General Q&A:
(Q) Can I show support for the developer of this awesome Rom.?
(A) Look at the top of the Original Post (#1) and use the donate button. Consider how much time and resources have gone into this awesome rom.
(Q) What's so "Special" about the new Special Editions?
(A) Where do we start? It uses the 1st of its kind touch screen Aroma Installer which detects your HBOOT version, allows you to select which apps to install, select which storage system you want to use and all done with a beautiful and simple user interface. Not forgetting the fully functioning Sense 3.5 launcher with RCTeam Tweaks, a super slick response and choice of working camera's, social networking and Beats sound enhancement.

Known errors and faults Q&A:
(Q) Is there a fix for occasional screen freeze or stall during calls?
(A) This has been reported by a few. There have been people testing new HBOOT versions, updating radios, re-formatting SDcards or replacing them. One user has fixed his in-call freeze issue by flashing Bravo Data++ hboot from http://alpharev.nl
I will update this regularly as results start to come in.
(Q) My phone is giving me low memory warnings – Help!
(A) There are two possible reasons:
1. If you are using AD2SD and haven’t moved the Dalvik to the SD Card it can be taking up a lot of room in the phone.
2. All apps, even when they are on the SD Card due to AD2SDX, still have some component in the phone; eventually the phone memory will become low. Test this by getting Cache Cleaner from the market and use it to clear the cache and see if the low memory warnings stop. If you can’t install Cache Cleaner because memory is too low, boot into recovery, clear the Cache (but NOT the Dalvik cache) and then reboot. Then try installing the Cache Cleaner app.
(Q) My battery seems to die when the display still shows 20% (amount varies)
(A) This happens with some kernels, but not others; mainly snq-'s kernel is affected by this issue. Try flashing another kernel to see if the problem goes away.
Other than that, make sure your battery is properly calibrated. Clear the battery stats as follows:
- Power off the phone and fully charge it until the led is green.
- Turn the phone on for a couple of minutes until the battery indicator drops from 100% to 99%.
- Power off the phone again and charge it again while watching. As soon as the led turns green proceed to the next step.
- Unplug the charger, boot the phone into Recovery mode and reset (or wipe) the battery stats.
- Reboot and continue to use as normal.
(Q) After an install my phone seems to constantly sync.... whats up?
(A) That issue has been tracked down to Facebook live feeds. Try uninstalling Facebook for Sense and installing Facebook for Android available free from the market. Or go unto settings>accounts & sync, select Facebook and uncheck live feed. (It'll be the one with the spinning sync next to it)
(Q) I get an error ”can’t Mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File Exists)”.
(A) That error and others like it are generally caused by a corrupt ext partition on your SD Card. The solution is to use 4EXT recovery, gParted, or a similar tool to reformat the ext partition to ext4. Leave the FAT32 partition alone and you shouldn’t lose any data. Don't use Windows-based partition tools!
Some suggest using ext3 as it is a known quantity and most ROMS will boot with an ext3 partition, however Runnymede AIO requires an ext4 partition.
(Q) When I boot up I get a "UID Inconsistent" warning. What can I do?
(A) If that displays, press "I'm feeling lucky". Then open root explorer and look at: /data/system/uiderrors.txt It should give you the information which apps are corrupted. Uninstall them, reboot and reinstall.
(Q) I've just installed the ROM and I can't boot back into recovery.
(A) Make sure Fastboot is not checked. You can find that option in Settings>Power. If it's unchecked, you should be able to get into recovery.
(Q) Beats doesn't seem to work.
(A) Check if RCMix3D Tweaks>Misc Options>Beats Boost is checked. Start the player with headphones plugged in; it can take up to 10 secs for music to play. Once started the music will pause when headphones are removed. Hit play again and it will continue, though you won't benefit from the bass boost through the built-in speaker.
Alternatively, ditch Beats and select DSP Manager from the ROM installation menu. If offers more control over the sound and a better bass boost!
(Q) Why can't I connect to my PC with the USB?
(A) Make sure USB Debugging is checked in Settings>Applications>Development. If it is, the USB symbol should display in the header bar when the lead is connected. If it still doesn't display, you might need to install up-to-date drivers on your PC.
(Q) The volume seems too loud/quiet... Can I fix it?
(A) Two methods:
- Easy one: go into RCtweaks>System tab>Enable/Disable Commands>Enable Xloud. Make sure WiFi is on!
- Not so easy one: follow the addons link in the second post. Download RunnyMede_Loud.zip to increase basic volume or RunnyMede_No_Loud.zip to turn down volume. Drop the zip to your SD card and boot into recovery, wipe dalvik and select the zip from SD to install.
(Q) I've installed everything and I keep getting a boot loop on first startup.
(A) Make sure the installer detects the correct version for your HBOOT (stock or CM7/r2). Another common reason is people installing AD2SDX on the stock HBOOT version. It WILL NOT WORK. Wipe everything and install again but this time select "generic A2SD" in the installer.
(Q) I see comments about excessive battery drain. How bad is it?
(A) For me and many others, its not bad at all. I get 36+ hours moderate use from a single charge. There are a few who report losing 1% every minute.... and despite changing radios, formatting sdcard, disabling WiFi etc. they see no improvement. It varies from device to device.
However, always consider that Sense 3.5 is a heavy program and was never designed for the Desire hardware. There are so many variables, like signal strength, background apps, brightness levels... it's impossible to guarantee how long the battery will last with any one individual setup.
Always make sure your battery is calibrated before reporting bad battery life (scroll up for the recommended calibration method).

Installation Q&A:
(Q) Do I absolutely need to install a touch-enabled recovery to use AIO SE versions?
(A) No. You can still use your existing recovery. Scroll up and down using volume keys or track button. However, it is recommended that you install 4EXT Recovery, which is designed for the desire. It has all the usual recovery features, as well as a partition tool and touch screen control version. Installing a new ROM will never be the same again.
(Q) How do I know which version to install?
(A) That's easy. The new Aroma Installer checks your phones internal storage partition size to see which HBOOT version you are running. It will then install the correct version. This has been tweaked to allow a more accurate detection but please feel free to post your query if this is wrong for you. Download "Quick System Info" free from the market and quote internal/external storage for any queries.
(Q) I've installed the ROM and it's booting up, but all I'm seeing is a the boot animation. How long should it take?
(A) I have seen users reporting the 1st boot take over 20 minutes, so be patient. If it's still not running after 25 mins, personally I'd pull the battery and try a reboot - but that's just me, and I wouldn't direct anyone to do the same. Worst case scenario is you do a full wipe and try the install again; you won't have lost anything if you made a backup before you started.
(Q) It says in the OP it states do a full wipe when going from old to new base... what versions are we talking about?
(A) As a rule, a jump in version like v3.0 to v4.0 is a new base and requires a full system, boot, cache and dalvik wipe. Anyone updating a version (ie v3.1 to v3.2) only need to do a partial wipe (explained in more detail below). Reformatting your SD is optional but may cut down on compatability problems.
(Q) Do I need to do a full wipe every time I flash a newer version.?
(A) If you are installing a simple rom update (e.g. v3.0.3 to v3.0.4), then a simple cache and dalvik cache wipe is ok. If, however, you are going from an earlier base to the latest one (e.g. v3.0.x to v4.0.x), you should always wipe system, boot, cache and dalvik. Reformatting your SD is optional but may cut down on compatability problems. Note that there are times when a full wipe will be necessary even inbetween new base releases; read the install instructions carefully.
(Q) How do I need to setup my memory card?
(A) The desired partition layout is:
- Main storage: fat32 primary partition
- Minimum 1024MB ext4 primary partition (max 1.5GB, there have been problems with bigger ext4 partitions)
- Zero swap partition
GParted seems to be the tool of choice, Alpharev CWM recovery works but I'd suggest 4EXT Recovery which has a good partition tool built in. I have done a full picture guide on SD card partitions available here. Don't read this and then install a 2GB ext4 partition with 5MB swap, and then complain because your phone's acting up!
(Q) How and when should I wipe?
(A) Wiping between ROM flashes is always a good idea, but can sometimes be very inconvenient, so here are some general guidelines to follow.
When the Android version changes, you will always need to do a full wipe, and if you change from one type of ROM to another, again a full wipe is required. If you are upgrading to the latest version of your current ROM (as long as the Android version hasn't changed) you will only need to wipe cache and dalvik cache. See below for some examples.
- Moving from CM7 to RunnyMede AIO - full wipe required!
- Upgrading from RunnyMede v3.0.2 to RunnyMede v3.0.3 - full wipe not required!
- Upgrading from RunnyMede v3.0.3 to RunnyMede v4.0.1 - full wipe required!
The recommended method of wiping is again in recovery and not through ROM Manager. The use of superwipe.zip files is not recommended either. Before doing any wipes, make sure you have done all of your backups!
There are 2 different types of recovery that most people will be using: CWM or 4EXT. The instructions below tell you how to do a full wipe.
Clockworkmod Recovery: First of all, select wipe data/factory reset, then go in to mounts and storage and select format /cache, format/data, format /system. Then head into advanced and select wipe dalvik cache.
4EXT Recovery: Head in to Wipe / Format and select wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, format system, format data, format cache and format boot. The latest 4EXT recoveries also have a "Format all partitions (except SDcard" option which does it all in a single click.
(Q) Whats the difference between Odexed and DeOdexed roms?
(A) Its complicated and a Google search is the best advice. These are the basics: a deodexed ROM has all the files neatly arranged in blocks, each block doing its own thing. This is easy to theme as everything needed is in the one apk folder.
In odexed ROMs, the files arranged in a different way, so common shared parts may already be open when you go to start the application. In theory this is quicker; however, you are reliant on a fast SD card to benefit fully. The downside is theming as the file structure means that certain necessary files will be shared with other system apps.
Note that older versions of Runnymede were offered in odexed and deodexed variants, but the new version isn't anymore.

Customization Q&A:
(Q) Where can I get Arabic support?
(A) XDA member docnasef has put together a package for you. Here is a link to the post with zip attachment. This gives you Arabic / Hebrew support in messages, sms, mail, and browser, with correct RTL.
(Q) Can I customize the notification bar?
(A) Yes. You can make changes in Menu>Settings>RCMix3D Tweaks>Settings.
Alternatively, there are flashable zips in the addons section of the OP.
If there is nothing you want from that selection, why not "cook" your own in the online kitchen. Many thanks to angusc for his quick guide here.
(Q) Why won't my UOT modifications work? After installing, none of them (or only some of them) show up!
(A) This is almost always down to the location of the system files (framework-res.apk, SystemUI.apk, and com.htc.resources.apk). In the stock and CM7r2 versions of the ROM, these files are in different places, which is important for UOT mods.
- SystemUI.apk is located in /sd-ext/app_s/ for both stock and CM7r2 HBOOT.
- Framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk are in /system/framework/ for stock HBOOT, and /sd-ext/framework_s/ for CM7r2 HBOOT.
Depending on which HBOOT version you have, you need to select the location of these files in the UOT Kitchen (in the File Upload tab); otherwise your modified system files will be installed to the wrong location, and they won't work!
For a more detailed explanation about how to apply UOT Kitchen modifications for this ROM, check out this guide by angusc. Many thanks to him!
(Q) Can I use SetCPU or similar to control the CPU instaed of the Daemon OC which is pre-installed?
(A) Yes, but be warned... as soon as you install another clock control tool like SetCPU, it will be detected on startup and over-ride Daemon OC Controller. Daemon Controller is recognized as the best for your phone, reacting to screen on/off a lot quicker than a Java app so will be more efficient. If you want SetCPU because you can see time in state (a feature not included in Daemon Controller) why not install CPU Spy (free) from the market?

<ROM> Samsung Gravity Smart T589 <10/26/11>

Sorry for posting here - there is no forum for this device.
This is for the Samsung Gravity Smart T589.
This is a stock 2.2.2 froyo rom that is deodexed and themed.
This was built from a system dump - the firmware hasn't been released yet.
Please note that I am not a developer - just a tinkerer.
This will be installed by flashing through the stock recovery.
There are no custom recoveries available yet for this device.
This has the majority of the bloatware removed.
It will utilize the stock kernel already in the phone.
The ROM download link is provided after the screenshots.
A RAR file download link is provided with the apps that were removed.
Details:
Removed Drivesmart from Settings.
Removed Social Network Key from Settings - hotkey defaults to Facebook
Removed Messaging Key from Settings - hotkey defaults to Message App
Removed Notification Slider from Settings
Removed Software Update from Settings - wont OTA a custom rom
Removed many ringtones and added a few.
Removed Startup sounds and Shutdown sounds.
Removed Startup and Shutdown animations.
Removed the following apps:
Aim - Bejewled - Allshare - DriveSmart - Dual Clock - Cloud Text - Gallery3d - Glympse - Lookout -
MallLite - Maps - Memo - My Account - My Files - Photobucket - Protips - Sticky Message Widget -
Street - Swipe Tips - Talk - Tetris - TeleNav - Uno - Youtube
Added the following apps:
File Expert (has root explorer) - Flash Player - Latest Gmail - Htc Keyboard - Latest Link2sd -
QuickPic (gallery app) - Latest SuperUser + Latest Binaries - Busybox - Latest Terminal Emulator -
Latest Titanium Backup (free version) - Latest Spare Parts Plus
Added 3 build.prop edits.
One for maximum events per second and the other two for sounds.
The default ringtone is from the movie "Crank" - the fading in and out phone tone.
The default notification sound is "Tinkerbell" - lol.
Added a custom boot animation - blue coin.
Added Sd Card speed tweak + battery tweak.
Themed several icons through the IC Menu.
Themed the framework to a black "Sense" theme.
Themed the battery icons.
This device has very little internal space, so I have included Link2Sd app.
[*]If you wish to utilize this included app, you must do the following prior to installing the rom:
Partition the sd card as follows:
** NOTE - PARTITIONING THE SDCARD WILL ERASE THE CONTENTS **
- first partition will be created as a <FAT32> <Primary> partition.
- (leave about 512mb for the 2nd partition)
- second partition will be created as a <Ext2> <Primary> partition.
- this should be 512mb with 0 swap
Installation instructions:
- partition sd card (this will erase the contents)
- download rom (which is an update.zip for the stock recovery)
- put rom on the sd card
- power off phone
- slide open the keyboard and hold down the <T/5> button and the <Power> button until the recovery appears
- use the <Volume Keys> to scroll to <wipe data/factory reset> and hit the <Power> button to confirm
- use the <Volume Keys> to scroll to <wipe cache partition> and hit the <Power> button to confirm
- use the <Volume Keys> to scroll to <apply update.zip> and hit the <Power> button to confirm
- rom will install and reboot phone automatically
- first boot will take a minute
- open Link2Sd app - inform the app the 2nd partition is a <Ext2> partition and reboot phone
- open Link2Sd app after reboot - hit the <Menu> key then click on <Settings> tab
- check the <Auto Link> box and click on <Install Location> and click <Internal>
- most apps downloaded from market will default to the sd card
- you will have to open Link2Sd app after installing apps and move the app back to the phone
- then you will have to click each installed app in Link2Sd interface and click on <Create Link> and link all thats permitted
- this will solve the majority of the limited space issue with this phone
NOTES:
This phone seems to operate best when the CPU frequencies are set to 320 min and 800 max.
We can't overclock the phone until a kernel is developed. Samsung hasn't release the kernel or firmware yet.
Download No Frills Cpu from the market and set the frequencies to those specs.
The phone is defaulted to 245 min and whatever it needs up to 800.
At 245 minimum, it uses more battery power to "wake" and if it wakes frequently at this setting,
it really adversely effects battery performance.

yes flashplayer works - i tested with a movie in mp4 format
ive got a few tweaks i want to make to this rom. please contact me.
Hi
I'm kinda new to flashing roms so I was wondering if this rom would work on the canadian sgh t589 (samsung galaxy q)?
Thanks alot
the cdn version indeed is the galaxy q.. just like ours is the same line of phones..
so yes i cant see why flashing wouldn't work..
the only thing that comes to mind would be changing the apn settings.. im not sure
but i dont think you will get a data signal since me and arhtard are running on with
tmobile with a sim...if you have tmobile great if not and running a diff provider and hopefully not cdma... so thats probably the only issue i can for see.. as i flashed this rom with
zero error.
Just flashed this tonight on my friend's phone. Success! The stock recovery will show errors on nuking cache and data I believe, but they do get nuked. The spinning coin animation is nice! Where is it from? Am I safe to assume I can nuke other apps without issue via su?
Oh...and when is the next release and how can I help? I have a knack for programming/scripting.

I think this needs a few explanations:
Why again a ROM based on old sense? In my opinion its still the fastest option for our hardware.
There are a few ROM's based on official HTC Gingerbread, why build one more? I want to have a stable and fast ROM with the most app-space possible. Cause of this, i build a full odexed ROM. To gain maximum space, there is a oxygen r2 HBOOT version. I could not find a ROM like this...
Why AN-Droid? Its simple, Anderl's Android = AN-Droid
ODEXED and Oxygen R2? A example: I installed around 100 userapps (including 7 big games) and still have 190 mb internal free...
I use the data++ build with Oxygen R2 hboot - This is my daily ROM!
Believe me, this ROM is highly optimized and really fast!

Descriptions:
+[stock/data++] odexed for max speed and space usage
- dalvik-cache will be smaller, you will be able to install a lot apps
- boot will be faster
- don't flash a theme!
+[stock/data++] bootanimation and bootsound on system/customize/resource
- change/delete if needed before flash in the ROM.zip (use 7zip)
- think about this if you use the UOT-kichen
+[stock/data++] Battery usage
- lets say, it's o.k.
- I use my phone and dont just carry it around - the battery is enough for me
- improved with newer kernel and a few tweakes
- see battery saving tips in post 2 too
- see it yourself
+[stock/data++] HTC "Stock" kernel
- stable and fast enough atm.
- perhaps i change it later to make more tweaks possible.
- since build 1.1.0 changed. See changelog. If you want the "Stock" kernel, see the end of this post
+[stock] stock hboot spezial
- system-size is ~240MB. Compatible with stock-HBOOT (no need to change if you are S-on - if not, see http://alpharev.nl)
- all ROM-data is saved on NAND
- app2sd+ is build-in, app-data and dalvik-cache is on SD-EXT
- dalvik-cache could be moved to NAND if needed too -more speed (flashable file see post2)
- after fresh flash ~144 MB internal memory free
- 03.11.2012, little problem with pvt4 devices is possible. Caused by different blocksize, pvt4 devices have a little lower /system size. If you are unable to do a successful flash with a pvt4 device and stock edition of this Rom, do this: open the Rom.zip with 7zip on your pc (dont extract!) and delete /system/app/maps.apk. flash this modded Rom.zip - will change this in next build.
+[data++] data++ spezial
- system-size is ~92MB. Compatable with Oxygen R2, CM7 r2, Bravo N1 Table, Bravo Data++ & Bravo Sense Hboot's
- 332 MB Space in data with oxygen r2 hboot for apps and dalvik-cache
- app2sd+ is build-in too
- dalvik-cache could be moved to sd-ext if needed too -even more apps (flashable file see post2)
- after fresh flash ~300 MB internal memory free
- radio's could not be flashed with recovery if you are on a hboot with only 5MB (like oxygen r2)
- use the fastboot command 'fastboot flash radio radio.img' in fastboot mode (see http://alpharev.nl)
+[data++] some parts of the rom are saved on SD-ext
- system/framework --> sd-ext/framework_s
- system/app --> sd-ext/app_s
- system/media --> sd-ext/media_s
- think about this if you use the UOT-kichen
Installation/flash
+[stock/data++]
- latest radio is recommented. Desire Radio Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
- SD-card: fat32 followed by a ext3 partiton is needed.
gparted video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uSatsWOxf4
gparted live-CD: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
- disable signature verification in recovery if needed.
- full wipe recommended of you come from a other ROM
- don't restore contacts with Titanium backup!
- first boot will need up to 10 minutes
- check md5 before flash! (for example "ManD5" from the market)
- Noob Proof Everything Desire Guide UPDATED [Video Tut] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
- If you got a bad battery life after flash, try to calibrate your battery. The easiest way is to use a app called 'battery calibration' from the market or to wipe battery stats in recovery. See here for more information about battery calibration - thanks to clouds5
- no-wipe-flash is usually possible if you are on my ROM - to be on the safe side, do a Nandroid / Titanium Backup!
- If you get problems with a flash, try to mount sd-ext in recovery before flash
+[data++] spezial
- s-off needed (see http://alpharev.nl)
- best experience and space with oxygen r2 hboot (see http://alpharev.nl)
- 1GB ext3/ext4 on the sd-card (recommended to use gparted)
+[stock] spezial
- no s-off needed
- 512 MB ext3/ext4 on the sd-card (recommended to use gparted)
ROM-Download
As you can see, i provide the ROM's on Minus(.com) for download now. Minus is free, provides unlimited downloads and at start 10GB free space. Its even an Android-app available for it!
To gain more space, please follow this link http://min.us/rMSmvlJ to sign in to Minus! Thank you! (For everybody that joins Minus, both get 1 GB of extra space!) - thanks beartiger!
I have seen, that the direct download link isn't working well on stock android browser. But the link is definitely working well, please try to download from desktop pc or use the minus app for download with the phone.

# Add-Ons / Mods and Informations
*** For flashable files: Use only the version for your build, flash in recovery, disable signature verification if needed, nandroid is recommended, If you get problems with a flash, try to mount sd-ext in recovery before flash. Don't flash a theme or things from other ROM's. This ROM is odexed and its possible that it will not work or end in a unusable installation (new flash needed).***
QuickSettings/RecentApps vs Widgetsoid:
If you want to have QuickSettings/RecentApps like in new Sense? See this post for informations and download of this MOD.
But: Perhaps you want to try Widgetsoid!? Look here!
Remove %-battery, autobrightness-mod and green overscroll glowing (like stock ROM - CRT Animation is still there, see the next position if needed)
1.x.x ROM's:
- data++ Build: Download An-Droid_StockBaterie_no-glow_data.zip
- stock Build: Download An-Droid_StockBaterie_no-glow_stock_V3.zip (first MOD not working - thanks to Haxxler)2.x.x ROM's:
- data++ Build: Download An-Droid_2_StockBaterie_no-glow_data.zip
- stock Build: Download An-Droid_2_StockBaterie_no-glow_stock.zipUse only the version for your build, flash in recovery, disable signature verification if needed, nandroid is recommendedIf you get problems with a flash, try to mount sd-ext in recovery before flash
Disable CRT animation
Use the spare parts app. Set the Windows and Trasition animation speed to fast, that's all...
If you want a flashable solution, (with and without stock battery and green overscroll) see here
dalvik2nand & dalvik2ext
in data++ build dalvik-cache is on nand
in stock build dalvik-cache is on sd-ext
What you get:
- With the provided patches you are able to switch this like you want.
- Dalvik-cache on nand gives you a bit faster ROM, but costs you space in /data. In the data++ build this is usually ok, in the stock build the available space in /data is not big... After a fresh flash dalvik-cache needs around 33MB
- I recommend to use dalvik on nand only with the data++ build. Its possible to use with stock build, but the /space in data will be low.
If you use dalvik2ext with the data++ build, you will be able to install a lot more apps, but the ROM could be a little slower.
- dalvik2ext: Download An-Droid_dalvik2ext
- dalvik2nand: Download An-Droid_dalvik2nand
nandroid is recommended, flash in recovery, disable signature verification if needed, stock and data++ build is supported
What is on your SD-ext? See here
Edit: If you update your ROM, the dalvik-cache will be on the "old" position. I recommend to flash the dalvik2nand / dalvik2ext patch again (without a reboot) after you flashed the update! If you don't do this, a bootloop is the possible reason (caused by too low memory to build the dalvik-cache!)
Black HTC Clock-Widget Like the stock Weather Clock Widget but in black
1.x.x ROM's:
- data++ Build: Download An-Droid_Black_HtcClockWidget_data.zip
- stock Build: Download An-Droid_Black_HtcClockWidget_stock.zip2.x.x ROM's:
- data++ Build: Download An-Droid_2_Black_HtcClockWidget_data.zip
- stock Build: Download An-Droid_2_Black_HtcClockWidget_stock.zipUse only the version for your build, flash in recovery, disable signature verification if needed, nandroid is recommended
If you want to go back to the white clock, see here
Sense 4 HTC Clock-Widget
see here for the download link
Expresso - Mod for 2.x.x ROM's - Thanks to AlexV for allowing me to use this on my ROM!!!
It's working with the black and white clock too, see above for the links!
- data++ Build: An-Droid_2_Expresso_data.zip
- stock Build: An-Droid_2_Expresso_stock.zip
(Semi-)Transparent appdrawer
As the title says, enables Semi-Transparent app-drawer (modded Rosie). See here for download links
Old/New Market & enable/disable MarketAutoUpdate - Neverupdate Market Don't use this with 2.x ROM's
Use the market-version (old/new) you want.
Enable or disable market auto-update.
See here for informations and download
DSP Manager - Equalizer for your phone
You can use the attached DSPManager.apk and install it on your phone. But - changing the equalizer-settings can potentially harm your hardware (i haven't seen something like that, but could be... ) So, use this on your own risk!
Disable Hardware-Key Backlight
Its possible to disable the backlight of the hardware buttons. See this post for more information's and download!
Things left out of the Gingerbread build...
...can be downloaded here (Wallpapers)
and here (Teeter and Torchlight app) - Thanks to beartiger!
Trackpad mod's for 2.x.x ROM's
Trackpad to wake - no unlock:
-data++ Build: Download An-Droid_2_tp2wake_data.zip
-stock Build: Download An-Droid_2_tp2wake_stock.zip
Trackpad to nothing - no wake and no unlock:
-data++ Build: Download An-Droid_2_tp2nothing_data.zip
-stock Build: Download An-Droid_2_tp2nothing_stock.zip
2 way call recording
This is possible since ROM build 1.1.0. You need a app to do this for you. You can use some apps from the market, or the attached rVoix.apk
How to remove bootsound and bootanimation
You can remove only the bootsound or even both if you want. How to do this, is described here
HTC IME mod
A perhaps better keyboard: HTC_IME_hi.apk
Battery saving tips...
- Disable pocket-mode in settings - sound
- Undervolt a bit - but do this carefully! (Incredicontrol)
- underclock the ROM a bit - usually it runs smooth and responsible even with 766 Mhz :-D
- change the CPU governor to smartassV2 (use SetCPU for example)
- disable gps and WiFi if not in use
- check your sync settings and use a lower sync frequency if possible
- use a app called 'Current Widget' from Market to see how much power your phone consumes (mine in standby around 2-4 mA)
- you can use a app called 'Android Assistant' to see in detail how much power a app uses - perhaps you installed a program which consumes a lot power...
Original GPS settings
download and flash An-Droid_orig_gps.zip, if you get GPS problems with 2.0.1 and newer ROM's
(works with data++ and stock edition)
If you like this, please click "Thanks"!

Nice!! Been waiting for an old Sense-ROM with CM7r2 support
Just a quick question, can I flash snq 111118 kernel over the stock one?
And if it works, would it enable EXT4 compatibility?

Hello!
Yep, exactly that was the idea with this ROM - "Old" Sense, odexed and smaller hboots...
And yes, you can use all GB snq- kernels with this ROM. They are already tested...

great job anderl78, I will try to get this loaded tomorrow and check it out! I do hope to see a few of your other tweaks appear as add ons soon as well, maybe your black clock ;-)
Have you seen this thread and is the idea of any use to you and your new rom, it is a non symlinking data2sd option called int2sd?

Happy New Year and good on you for still believing in the Bravo!

Yep, the ext4-support comes with the kernel - but the installation/flash sequence is not "tuned" for ext4... you should be able to flash the ROM on ext4, if you mount sd-ext before the ROM-flash. After the ROM-flash, dont reboot and flash the kernel
I don't see much benefit with ext4 - its even possible, that it harms your sd-card... (more read/write caused by the journaling of ext4)

Hello!
Thanks, you too! i think, a few mods should be possible in the near future... Please report back, how it goes for you
I read a bit into this, but i dont think its really necessary for "old"-Sense-ROM's. In my opinion the ROM is faster, if some parts of /data are on NAND. With my ROM its easily possible to install 300+ apps on out desire - without even dalvik on SD-ext....

Remove data++ from it's name, this way only thing it creates is confusion. What is the point in wasting 90Mb with data++ mtd?

yep, you are right. At first i named it "An-Droid_1.0.1_Oxygen_R2.zip", but this name was even more confusing... ;-)
I think, its explained in the OP, i hope people read it carefully.... If its really necessary i always could give it a other name later

Download-Link for Stock-Build is available - see OP!

- Now you have to flash Gapps seperately.[ From the attachments]
- Made it as good as stable. You won't have crashes anymore. [ if you have crashes, please report them.
- Cleanup ; made it 9MB Smaller.
- Redit some permissions for the apps ; have to change some default preferences..
How to set up A2SD
Requirements: 512MB EXT4 Partition ( 1024MB Recommended )
Do you have an EXT3 partition? download the fix from the attachments and flash it before you do this! Else it will not work!
1. Do all the steps from the installation, if you've done all that, please don't install apps.
2. open app scroller, and open terminal emulator
3. type su and hit enter ( accept if Superuser prompts up )
4. Click the menu button on your device, and click show keyboard.
5. type a2sd install and hit enter
6. type y , type n , type y ( When it asks for it )
7. Auto reboot!
8. At the first boot it will be really slow ; can take up to 15 minutes.
9. After that, don't be afraid, all the apps have to load 1/2 minutes. ( that's why they don't show up in the app drawer.)
10. Done!
Please look through the thread before asking questions, Thanks.
Don't like superuser and Stock A2SD?User jmcclue made an alternative version of WindowsPhoneMod with INT2EXT+ And superSU.
Based on WindowsPhoneMod v2.9.7
Download here!
HBOOT
This is a custom HBOOT made for WindowsPhoneMod
for Version: 1.7.5/2.9.7
Q. What does a HBOOT do?
A. A phone has 3 partitions. A system partition, cache partition, and a Data partition. On the system partition are all the system files installed. on the cache partition, well, that speaks for itself. Temorary files will be placed here. On the data partition, all the apps will be installed. The stock HBOOT you'll get with the Desire, has 250MB on system, 40MB on cache, and 147MB on Data. Since this ROM only uses 160MB on system, and 5MB on cache, This is a huge waste of space. So i created a HBOOT with a 165MB system partition, 5MB cache, and 267MB on Data. The 267MB will be your internal memory for apps.
Q. How do i use/flash this?
A. There are 2 ways. i only will describe the simple way, for other ways look here. Download the PB99IMG_WindowsPhoneModv2 from the attachments. Rename it to PB99IMG. Place it on the root (First folder) of your SD card. Then load into the bootloader, ( hold Volume down, menu, power ) and it should ask you to update, press volume up to accept. Most of the time nothing gets touched, but sometimes ROM are gone weird. Please reflash WindowsPhoneMod after changing HBOOT.

Maybe some say it doesn't matter on an old device, but hey, you worked hard on this, downloading and trying to install for the new feel and look. Thanks for this innovative post.

I found the lock screen double-up a bit annoying too.. until I disabled "WP7 Lock Lite" application, once you've done that it's all good.
Re: [ROM/MOD/WIP]WindowsPhoneMod v0.3c 21/3/2013
There are two lockscreens. One in WP7 lock lite and in the launcher. You should disable the one in the launcher. Will fix it in 0.4!
