I don't want to root my phone...I just want to get rid of the brown! Is there a non-rooted theme available? I am currently using ADW which is nice for icons and such, but doesn't get rid of the brown theme everywhere else! Thanks

you can use adw/lpp themes to change some stuff around
but you need to have root to install custom themes
System themes modify the framework.res and tw-framework.res in the system files which are inaccessible without root... so that's a negative ghostrider.
Technically, you could theme your system and not have root, but why would you want to? To theme the ROM, it needs to be deodexed for easiest theming. After that you need root access to replace the files that are themed. If you wanted to have a stock looking system, you'd have to root, deodex, theme, re-odex, de-root.
You can use Go Contacts to theme Dialer and contacts, Go SMS for messaging, and Go Launcher for a mini makeover. Maybe not a complete theme, but it can help with some of the things you use alot

A non-rooted device?
Oh, I am rooted...
Looking for a zip format file that I can flash in recovery.
All the themes I have seen seem to be for CM and Enomther...
Any that I can use?
On ERE27...
second this request. Also running updated stock rom, only with modacos superboot with himem. But would love a theme, maybe it's not possible?
Bumping (sorry if I'm not supposed to do this on an old thread)
Since Gingerbread is probably coming out next week (google got the big ol gingerbread man for the front lawn friday) I want to stay stock for now so I can get my OTA update when it comes.
I am missing my black notification bar though....Any way to do this on the stock rom?

Probable the ONLY thing you cannot theme on stock is Notification bar and stock apps...They do something called ODEX on the files that cannot be modified unless DE-ODEXED...otherwise must have root to theme..sorry!

Well I am rooted and I was messing around with root explorer, just looking around, and I noticed in the system/app/ folder there are many .ODEX files corresponding to .apk files. Could I just delete or modify these files on the framework .apk to be able to theme?
Sorry if this is a noob question. I am trying to learn more about the inner workings of the system before I mess with things.

I wish, there are many other things needed to de-odex the files. Search the developers forum for the steps. I think someone made a way to make it easier. I would just use rom manager to download the de-odexed stock rom!
Edit: Rom manager only has odexed stock roms.
I like the Aloysius and I like the other couple themes using his color menus... That said, thats ALL I want... The color menus.
Does anyone have an install that JUST has color menus? Please? Thanks!
hey im looking for the same i dont want to flash any rom i just want the color theme any idea how can make this happen
I actually started to go threw all the apk files in Aloysius last night. I've been trying to ask the writer of Aloysius if he would make just a color menu ad-don but he either never saw my posts in his thread or wasn't interested.
Trying to figure out if I can just replace the png files etc so when I install it I get the icons I want now. If I figure it out, I'll let you know. Either way it's going to be zip that's flashable from recovery but not a whole ROM, heck even the writer of Aloysius released it as both a rom and a theme so you dont HAVE to flash a rom.
+1 if anyone gets this working.

It's not that I wasn't interested....but you want the png's/color menus to go where. I have a theme that is not a whole ROM like you are looking for in the themes thread. If I just pick a rom that is from "stock" it might not be compatible with the one you are running or another person is running. If I create a stock looking theme with just the color menus.....everyone will have to flash that paritcular ROM that I am throwing the menus onto.
I can't just make a color menus theme that fits all stock ROMS.....so which "one" stock rom do you ALL want to flash and use to get the color menus with?
I would like it on fresh. 1. 01

Easiest to do this is use other launcher then stock one. You can edit icons, rename them etc. ADW launcher from market works great.
Hi ,
I'm trying to build a custom rom for the jiayu g4 with as base stock kitkat rom.
Now, I would like to add theme ability to the rom. Not with xposed framework or such, just a theme chooser like in the xperia and cm settings.
Can anyone help me with this? The intension is to have such setting (or app that I can link to settings) to easely change the theme.
If there's an option to do this, but specific for my kind of phone (so no theme's exist yet), I wouldn't mind theming a bit. In that case I could provide the users with 3 or 4 different UI collours and different icons or such to choose from.
Thanks,
Louis

You could try adding the Cyanogenmod theme chooser into the ROM and offer some themes for it but that isn't device specific as such. That would most likely be the easy option where something else could take a lot of time though.

Hope this helps

How can i add the Cyanogenmod theme chooser into the ROM? Isn't the cyanogenmod theme engine built in in the framework and very difficult to add to a ROM?

It is built into the framework and requires an AOSP based rom. Also the version for that OS had a ton of issues that were never fixed as it abandoned for the newer setup

So you're telling me I must not try to add the cyanogenmod theme engine? What would be the easiest way to add some theme's then? It doesn't have to be theming like in cyanogenmod or such. Just changing the theme collour from as example black to blue would be enough for me. Then I can provide them with the themes black, blue, red, green or such.
Thanks for taking the time to answer

To do what you want you would have to rewrite all the base framework files and add everything in by hand. To be honest it will be far more work then it is worth. Your best option would be to make flashable theme zips, where you change all the color options to each and every single apk in the rom.

wouldn't it work to just change the systemui or such so the status bar, volume pannel, settings etc change collour and maybe some icons (like wifi, bt,..)? And then I could search for an app that automaticaly flashes zip's, that way the users just need to choose the theme they want and the phone does the rest himself?
Or is there a way to implend xposed modules into the system so I can use XthemeEngine without having to install xposed module? Or implend xposed framework and XthemeEngine in the ROM so you just flash it with the rest of the ROM? But in that last case, it maybe would be stupid to do the work for it as everyone can easily find out about XthemeEngine if they realy want to apply some themes. Plus xposed and XthemeEngine would be 2 apps taking space in the drawer and memory wasting for the users who don't want to theme..

Well thats the thing. The volume panel color shares its color with the rest of the menus in the rom, The settings is set by the settings apk and the icons are scattered across a ton of different apks. Some in the framework and some in the system ui.
The xposed route is up to you. I find no use for xposed myself.
Ill be honest there is no easy way to do this. What you want to do takes weeks worth of work even for a single color theme. This is due to everything being cross linked to everything else. You change the color for say the clock then the color changes in 50 other places as well.
I've got a I9500 running 5.0.1 stock rom, rooted. Is there any ways to change the stock icons with something? I've got all the S6 icons in png, i want to replace my current icons with them. How? Please help
From what I can gather you could install a different launcher that supports themes and icon packs.

Yeah, I know that, but i want to use the touchwiz launcher, because i'd like to get something like the stock S6..
There are launchers that look quite a bit like tw but are not. Other than this option, i don't know how to do that.
You would need to modify the apk's with the images you want to use.
