Try flashing this with Odin, you'll have CWM without pushing the custom recovery file to /bin

Thank you! I'll have to wait to get to a computer

I had the same problem getting this to work. I tried a lot of times before I finally got it to work.
The only thing I did differently to finally get this to work was to download the files to my computer first and then transfer them to my phone. When I downloaded directly to the phone the file had a .bin extension added to it. Just deleting the .bin extension didn't work for me.

Help with flashing first ROM

iv read the how to guide, it was very helpfull, however when i put my clockwork file to my sd and name it update.zip, and try to re install packages at the recovery menu i get this error:
E: failed to verify whole-files signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
iv read that once i get to clockwork i can turn signatures off.. is there a way to do that with the recovery menu? thanks alot
You gotta search for the process on changing that sig requirement. I just did my first flash too. Its not hard @ all. After you change that file out, clockwork will work. Good luck. Im on my phone, but ill try to look for the quote on what to do for that sig stuff for you.

Search for "[recovery] 3e recovery modded w/ no verification" to download the file and these are the exact steps I followed: good luck.

@davidis57: i had the same problem as you did... but i just followed existz's instructions and got it to work
delete the update.zip in the sdcard root
delete the recovery in system/bin
paste the new recovery in system/bin
open rom manager and reinstall clockwork (even if it says it's already installed)
select 'reboot into recover', and it will take you to 3e recovery
select reinstall packages - this will take you to clockwork
big thanks to existz. works on rogers captivate on stock froyo.

Ummm lol. Haven't read anything on that... Try posting that question on the q and a section. Or try re doing cwm. Orr if its really messed up, flash back to stock and start over.. Oorr just wait for another response.

Hey man, are you successfully booting in to CWM recovery, or are you getting the Samsung recovery screen?
It boots me into thesamsung recovery screen, not cwm. Thamx for the reply.

In that case, you'll need a modified 3e file in order to get CWM up and running instead of Samsung recovery: Modified 3e Tutorial
I tried the modified 3 e file. I renamed it and and copied it to the root of the sd card.. Reboot into recovery and selected reinstalled packages once.. It gave me the error of saying the file does not exist on mnt/internal_sd card selected reinstall packages and same error. No luck here been trying it for days. Thnx for the reply.

Find and follow the ultimate unbrick instructions. It'll get you rooted and have cwm.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using XDA Premium App
are you using Rom manager to get CWM
if so, i have noticed that i have the same problem unless i do everything twice, including the install CWM portion.
i have install CWM 2 times, the reboot into recovery and install packages 2 times to get to the CWM Recovery.
otherwise yes i would say just flash the Ultimate Unbrick and get into it that way.
I did use ultimate unbrick.. supposedly to go back to stock. Some file from serendipity infused rom are still on my phones, cant get rid of it. And now the base is uckd5.. what dies that mean. I did partition when doing ultimate unbrick.. and do I have to root again? Confused here. Thanks for the reply.

.......infuse.....Infused....infusion.........
You forgot to adjust the permissions of your new recovery file.
then dont use the Ultimate Unbrick, use another back to stock method. i use gtg's other Md5sum with odin to flash back to stock after i use the Ultimate unbrick because the ultimate unbrick does not allow unsigned packages, so i run the Ultimate then i Run his other Back to stock to get past the unsigned error and Flash the Update.Zip that Rom manager makes to get into CWM......
after that i just WIPE and FLASH like crazy........lol
if i get hung up i just rinse and re-use.

you just go to install zip from SD card, then select choose zip (maybe those are in reverse order - i'm not in recovery right now, so this is just from memory, but you should get the gist), then find where you saved the serendipity zip on your SD card, select it, go to yes... and that should be it, assuming you are coming from stock froyo.
I went to install zip from sd card but I dont see the S7 zip file. I did copy it to the root of the sd card cuz when I reboot back to system I see that its there but not when I try to install it from sd card in cwm. Hmmm anyone.. Help.

You must install the custom Recovery. Follow steps below.
When you reach to the 'replacing' recovery file, make sure you delete the old one. When your in recovery mode, make sure you install packages twice before you see CWM recovery.

[Q] Modified e3 Recovery

Hi there,
I own a Rogers Samsung Infuse. I rooted and flashed CM9 onto my phone yesterday. Long story short, had an issue with Google Apps, and ended up with a phone that would constantly boot to the CWM Recovery screen.
I was able to use ODIN3 to get my phone back to stock, but could not flash CM9 (or anything) with CWM as I was (and still am) getting the:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I tried using this: Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e), but the phone kept getting stuck at the Samsung screen.
I tried watching the modified e3 recovery video on youtube, but my recovery file is sitting in the root folder, and not in system/bin where it should be. I ignored the location of the file, replaced it with the modified e3 recovery file, but when I rebooted my phone, it's as if the changes didn't take place.
I've been digging (maybe not hard enough) for a solution to this problem. CM9 looked fantastic for the 5 minutes I had it on my phone.
What can I do now?
It sounds to me like you lost cwm recovery if you want to flash cm9 you need to flash the ics recovery file. Doesn't verify signature verification

Compatible...? You have to be on blue cwm to flash cm9 & aokp ....red cwm will not work...that's why you do a two flash...
My first attempt to get into CWM recovery after getting my phone back to stock and re-rooting put me into red recovery mode for reason. I ended up in blue recovery mode after trying to flash/reboot once? I completed the process in blue recovery to ensure it works, and it's been good since Monday. Only the Kernel Panic Upload Mode is giving me trouble...
I also got this problem
I also got this problem tell me please what can i do , i cant install any modes

I can see Blue letters while starting the phone in recovery mode. I assume that is Blue CWM. Please correct if I am wrong. If that is Blue CWM, then I need the recovery file. Please help.

Not necesarilly. The stock 3e recovery also has blue letters, but you should be able to tell them apart. It actually says 3e at the top and only has about 3 options to select.

Solved but new problem I will post next thread.

Hello. I have been trying for many many hours to boot into CWM 4.0.0.2 but everytime I reboot to recovery, it boots to the stock recovery mode and not CWM. I have the zip file installed on my phone and I flashed CWM to my phone and click reboot into recovery to no avail. I am really getting frustrated with this, so any help is gravely appreciated! Thanks!!
Cwm is wrong
You have to download the cwm from these fourms not rom manager
This phone needs a custom 3.x cwm

I didn't use rom manager. I manually extracted recovery.zip and update.zip and rebooted, but still no ClockWorkMod. I also tried your method and still the same result. Won't load CWM.
Well, I put recovery file and update.zip into parent folder, rebooted and booted into recovery mode, and clicked reinstall packages (I only get 4 options on my recovery mode window, which are reboot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data, and delete cache data), but it gives me the error "E:signature verification failed
installation aborted."
It won't let me boot into clockworkmod recovery; just the stock recovery. Atleast it doesn't give an update.zip error.

This was the part in red that I said to skip, this part is only if you soft bricked your phone, if you want go back to start and root from the beginning (ie follow guide from start to finish) you can and its good practice. but really if you have su and busybox installed then you just need to replace the recovery binary and follow the guide from there.
