[APP] StriPad, another application launcher

I'm looking for beta-testers now, in order to refine my application and maybe find bugs.
This launcher is described and downloadable on my web site dystroy.org/stripad/
In a few words, it is designed to be efficient and greatly minimize the time needed to find and launch your applications (or to uninstall them).
If you could take the time to visit, test and comment this launcher...
[screenshots not possible for a forum newcomer...]

Hey I had a look at the screenshots, what an Awesome innovative idea! .
I wouldn't want to replace my home screen with it though. Maybe you might want to get into contact with some launchers (Launcher Pro etc) about making it an option to replace the app drawer with your StriPad?

I'll test this. This is my new favorite launcher. I've been looking for something like this ever since I went Android. Your launcher is a welcome change.
I love that it's only 63KB, fast, minimalist and low on resources.
I hate having a 1-2MB app just to launch other apps.
I don't use widgets or screens.

I had a FC while holding down a strip to change the color.
I also only see half of the color wheel when changing colors. I have a low resolution phone. 320x240
Checking the Processes I only see
Process CPU Mem.
system_server 129% 0Ko
com.google.process.gapps 129% 0Ko
com.android.phone 129% 0Ko

Took a look at it, not a bad idea, still rather launcher pro.

Good Idea.
But hard to use and could be prettier.
But I am looking forward for updates.

Awesome idea, but I use too many widgets for it to replace my current launcher. I'll be checking back for updates

@lunigma : can you reproduce the problem and get me the stack-trace ? Do you know how to do it ? What you see on the process list is strange. What device do you have and with what version of Android ?
@TuRDMaN : if enough people are interested I'll continue my work. I'm currently working on an integration of the widgets (the stripes could be all retracted to the left, leaving the background to widgets).

I must admit that I'm not any more able to find the time and motivation to work on this project.
So, except if I find people willing to develop it (as open source), I won't finish it and I'll remain the sole user...

I would help to work with this project. I was asking put it on market because I can't insatll form the apk file..... I have the setting allow unknow sources but it never works

Would you consider making this into an "app drawer" replacement? Or maybe 2 versions. Full launcher version and app drawer replacement version. I think it would be an awesome app drawer. But I personally would not want to replace my launcher with this. It is a great idea though. and thanks for sharing.

Please don't drop this! I love the concept and the fact that it's so conservative on resources.
I'm using Stripad as main Launcher and Quickdesk for some widgets.
There are two flaws, though. On my Samsung Spica, it displays sometimes 8, sometimes 9 bars. The processes windows becomes empty after 3 or 4 seconds.
Again, I think this app is too good for you to drop. Please reconsider.

Normal its run on 2.1 x10i. I dont have test it on a other device.

You changed very few things from my theme... A link to it or mentioning my name would be nice... Even the theme's name is similar... :/
I don't want to discourage you from theming but I spent a lot of time making all of those icons.
I updated mine recently too, and will continue to. Check my sig...

I wouldn't mind if you use all of the buttons & status bar background, or just certain icons in the status bar, or just the dialer,etc. using pieces from other themes is how we all get started.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

thought id try help.. been a while since ive used 2.1 though! lol (this was like the early 2.1 update we first got before all the roms came out)
1) i reckon the menu button background thing is most likely lurking in framework-res.apk in res/drawable-hdpi folder.
2) the background from the launcher is probably in launcher.apk somewhere although i used to use adw launcher so never really looked into that.
3) as for mediascape background it should be in mediascape.apk although im sure theres some background in there maybe from playlist section or something else where theres a separate background file. cant remember in which apk ul find it but i think it was along the lines of the timescape or framework-res apk's!
some help i am lol sorry.. but if ya wanna look at the old work i had and maybe figure something out then feel free to do so. link should be in signature below if needed!

Ported 3d launcher, alpha test. Calling all devs!

UPDATE 5/19
Here is dropbox of new music app. It works outside of the launcher also, but doesnt have that cool look. Outside the 3d launcher it looks kinda like ours
®download new apk.
®get a system app remover. Search the market.
®use it to first back up, and then remove your old music application.
®find new music apk and instal.
®start launcher, (you downloaded both zips below and and installed everything right?)
®hit the thanks button

Hi all.
Let me start off by saying. . . I have no knowledge of porting or modding and was extreemely lucky to get this far. I need some dev help!
Here is my attempt at porting a landscape only 3d launcher for our tab. Works on 2.2-2.3.3.
It is a beta/alpha version.
I say beta/apha because some things dont work yet, but it runs very smooth. So I am calling it that.
This was originaly a launcher for anouther tablet (advent vega tab) and I believe it is called 3d Home Launcher Screen for Vega. It was designed for use with a Tegra processor.

Did some tinkering, reading, hacking, slashing and harassing. . . . . lots of cursing
And. . . .
I got it installed and MOSTLY working . A few thing still need work.
Let it settle in. It has its own cache, and needs to build it. Restart the launcher maybe twice over an hour period. Its been running smooth, finding and playing all audio/video files. It created its own audio and video thumbnails.
®Music app DOES currently play music. It is visually stunning.
®Video app DOES play video.
*No google search bar. Thats okay. It was kinda cool tho. It caused FC's. Anything that caused fc's has been taken out of the uploaded version.
*Animated Weather widget shows weather but doesn't show the three days of the week buttons. It's just a black box that now turns to the next city. Maybe font is not installed. I am looking for it.
*It dissables two soft buttons. The search button and menu button. Long pressing the search key still brings up voice search. And pressing menu in apps still works. Pressing search button in an app still works.
Download launchkey and remap the long press search key to open search instead of voice search
*Button on right of task bar does nothing, I took out the Guide. It was for the original Tablet. Maybe it could be modded to open another app?
*Dock bar seems a little visually kooky. Black boxes under each icon where it is supposed to say name of each. Maybe font is not installed. I am looking for it. Also maybe this is because it is for a 10 inch tab screen and ours is 7.
Maybe a few things more but I cannot remember.
Guys, I think I am getting close, but would like some help, please, as I have no idea what I am doing.
®download both zips, unzip both and install all files. Sorry bout two zips. XDA has a size limit. Can anyone help make a CWM Recovery flashable zip? There is alot to install, and I dont want anyone missing an apk.

®there are more widgets but currently they cause the forceclosures

I dont know if they updated it, but it works smooth on my 2.2.3 beta 2 overcome.
Netfront life screen: my only gripes so far is no orientation change. And the annoying need to click on the desired icon, it scolls to "home" then you gotta click again to open it.
And it would be awsome to have the circle centered in landscape on the middle bottom, or middle?
Kinda why i want the 3d launcher ported
I guess running netfront and circle launcher is the best 3d we are gonna get till someone ports the 3d launcher.

I've just been trying Claystone Launcher from the market, its a beta but works ok, no landscape mode, and app draw is slow and laggy, but other features are very good, i follow this and hope it will be nice and fast at some later date.

It's from Advent Vega Tablet. i raised the same question some time back but no one seems to be interested.

I dont know why. It looks freakin sweet. I just think the people who, unlike me, can just dont want to. Everyone else waits for other people to do it. I bet if i had it posted available to instal right now, the download counter would be smoking.
Cmon guys, take a look and give some input. If you dont wanna do it teach me how. Id love to learn how to port things like this.

For correcting the link.
I ripped the stock launcher out of a toshiba and its a pretty sweet launcher. Its definetly different that anyrhing we have available now.
If you wanna check it out, i can pm or email it to you as i cant upload.
It works great on any lcd desity, i have it on 182 right now. Using this in conjucture with circle launcher makes my tab visualy awsome and very unique.
I also have the dell stage launcher its a great portrait launcher because unfortunatly its resolution allows you to see part of each screen to the left and right in landscape mode. Still works in landscape mode, tho.
It is also diff than the regular old adw launcher. It has some widgets also.
I am in the process of ripping out every stock launcher i can find and trying to get it to work on the tab.
I am gonna start a new thread soon with all these in one spot that work on the tab. I am not gonna include launchers you can find on the market. Except in passing mention.

add more pages to android home

I was looking for a way to add more pages to android home, I use the sense interface and it has some many widget that I think that it's a shame to use just 7 ..
Also I was looking to a way to change background to the all app menu ( I know that probably isn't possible but I really can't understand the thing of the black background...)

any help ?!

Try a different launcher - most of the third party replacement launchers let you configure the number of home screens, backgrounds, etc.
Just open up the Market and search for "launcher" - Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, Zeam Launcher and ADW Launcher are popular ones - have a play with them until you find one you like!

emh actually I forgot to mention that I would like to do this with htc sense....so I think that those app can't help me !

You might consider sending a pm to CookieMonster. He did things with HTC Sense on Windows Mobile that nobody including HTC could do.
He doesn't seem to be around much anymore but here is his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792303 Maybe someone from his team may have some thoughts.

i know but I doubt that he would like to work on this considering that hasn't been active for a while. anyway I'll give it a try.
and yes manila was much more better in my opinion...android is to close and some of its properties are bad...it's not possible to have a menu app with forced black background...also the stories of only 7 pages is stupid...

[ASK] Customize Apex Launcher?

Hello guys.
I'm currently using the very customizable Apex Launcher on my Samsung Galaxy Ace running on CM9 (thanks to Maclaw by the way).
I find it's almost perfect but one thing is missing for me. I think that there's not really enough place in the vertical drawer, because of the black bar on the top of it with "All apps", "Downloaded apps" and "widgets". I removed Downloaded apps and widgets but the bar is still present and it takes - in my opinion - place for nothing. Is there a way, like going into the apk and change some things, for removing it? It would be sooooo amazing.
Sorry if what I'm saying is totally dumb; I'm kind of a noob in these modding stuffs.
Sorry too if I'm in wrong section.

I'm not so sure you could modify the apk yourself depending on licenses and stuff but if you pm the developer he may implement that option in a new version.
