i'm thinking about getting the htc thunderbolt. but i got a few questions first:
1) whats the best custom rom with sense 3.0 for this phone to save the most in battery life?
2) how do i unlock this phone to tmobile?
3) can anyone provide their own battery life results?

You can't unlock this phone to Tmobile. GSM vs CDMA.
The other questions are a moot point unless you're gonna pony up and get Verizon.

Someone must have told him it has a GSM antenna (4g which obviously wont work with his 3g connection), which it does for LTE/data, but does tmobile use LTE or any sort of cdma for voice/3g data? Nope.
You'll have an expensive pda you can use with wifi and nothing more if you get a thunderbolt and try to use it on tmobile.
If your gunna go to any other provider, why on earth would you go to one that requires a contract? Metro PC's baby...

Ya know, there's about 3 of these "Best ROM/recommend a ROM" threads started EVERY WEEK. They usually say the same thing: I want gingerbread, Sense 3.0, completely issue free, smooth as butter, and practically infinite battery life... What ROM is best for me?
Did you even look at the specs? Did you look at the other couple dozen threads like this? I'm not trying to beat on ya, but really, this looks like 3 completely uninformed questions tossed out there, posed in a manner as to expect some concise and objective answers.... from people who've exhibited more desire to learn and research than the poser of such questions. Within these forums are the answers to every question you'll ever ask before you own the device. Searching them is easy.
But to answer them nonetheless, with pure opinion:
1)Chingy's
2)impossible.
3)depends.

hi loonatik.. thanks fior getting back to me. the reason why i'm asking this is cuz i need a phone thats HTC, has 4.3 inch display, has a front camera, and is unlockable to tmobile.
Sounds like you need a Sensation.
if TMobile would have come in $5 cheaper a month, and at $99 for the phone, I would have a Sensation. Of course, _after_ my 30 day return period expired on the TBolt, TMobile gives the Sensation away for free! gaaah.

AT&T carries a device very similar to the Tbolt which should work on tmo. Nothing in a Verizon or Sprint store will.

Inspire is the ATT version of the thunderbolt, but it doesnt have the front camera either. As for the guy thinking he can get this phone to work on Tmobile, keep dreaming.
Good ROM
Eaton ROM 1.5.3 is a awesome ROM for the Thunderbolt, no issues whatsoever.
I have used Th3ory roms since I have rooted my phone , I have not used any other roms but I hear that this is one of the best roms for the thunderbolt and has great respond time if you have problems or questions.

Nice! Thanks a lot for the videos.
I was wondering the same thing - why no sub forum for Inspire yet? Anyways, I hear people are concerned over the battery life, as the specs are almost identical to the desire HD. What are your impressions on the battery life? With typical usage, will it last till night? Is 24 hours pushing it? I love everything else about this phone!
Itching for an upgrade!

Yes, this phone does have support for AT&T's HSPA+ network. Keep in mind that the 4G speeds may still change since AT&T is not officially launching is until March 1st.

The Inspire IS a Desire HD. The only difference is that this version has support for AT&T's 3G bands.
Battery life has been OK, but not great. Under constant use, the HTC Inspire lasted about 9 hours yesterday. Keep in mind I was testing apps, running benchmarkes, and such. I'll hopfully get a much better result today as I'm back in the office and will use it for day-to-day pursposes.
I'll be doing some camera testing later on and i'll be sure to post a link once I have sample images and video to show off.
I was looking at getting the motorola atrix but off contract it's too expensive. This phone looks awesome with htc sense, blows my iphone 4 out of the water. Can't wait!!!

I would be surprised if rooting and sideloading isnt't possible by the first day I wouldnt think it would much different than the DesireHD. Custom rom will be able to be ported from the Desire HD thread i would think.
edit: forgot that someone will have to start deveoping a custom kernel too but I am sure we wont have to wait very long still

Check out the Android Development section on the Inspire 4G.
I've made a thread link to a program so we can manually push market apps we have bought and others that are not available on the market.
Its worked for other phones, now all we have to do is test it and see if it works for the Inspire as well.
Nothing can replace root on a phone but this is just a temporary alternative until someone truly genius gets to work on the Inspire.

I've tried to cover just about everything you'll need to know to start off in my [q AND a] thread. There's a link in my sig. Any questions about what's covered there, just post. Others and myself seem to keep an eye on that thread regularly and get answers out as quickly as possible.
I came to the tbolt from the vibrant and I felt your pain. I'm sure you'll have a much better experience with an HTC device. The good thing about having a Samsung device is that you get pretty adept at recovering from soft bricks and bootloops.
I have the Verizon branded car dock and it works great. Lots here use the extended battery, but if you root and install CM7, or any of the popular gingerbread sense roms, you probably won't need it.

Give the droid Bionic a try if you just came aboard the verizon ship. It launched today.
were you suckered in with all of Verizon's propaganda also ?
damn them for making a big deal about 4G-LTE and 6 months later still waiting for 4G-LTE !
the phone itself is ok though.
i recommend the Mugen 4500mAh extended battery.
I've been a big fan of Seidio's products, and had lots of their accessories for my EVO 4G when I was still with Sprint. I have the Seidio SURFACE case and belt holster, as well as the desktop charging cradle, and their 1750mAh battery (slightly bigger than stock, but still uses original battery cover). I saw a 20-30% improvement in battery life after a few charge-discharge cycles.

Good to have you here. I have used the captivate (rooted and unlocked it) its a pretty good phone.
Not better than the thunderbolt. Although they have their pros and cons.
Anyways I would recommend getting a GB Rom, with the .625 radio. I use Synergy ROM right now. Haven't had to many problems, just the occasional bug. I don't update very often and that may be why.
Cyangenomod is very excellent with customization and hardware tweaking, I might suggest using a GB Cyangenomod ROM.
Using GOOGLE VOICE is the best way to go. I love texting and calling for free. Be careful to set your phone to default send texts thru GV, and u need to use "GROOVE IP" if you want calls. Its $4.99 and well worth it!
A screen protector and otter case or slip is a necessity, can't live without those. Trust me! LMFAO.
Personally I don't use much else on the hardware side besides the slip on and screen protector. Haven't did much research on any also. I am sure their are a lot of great accessories though.
Have fun with the TBolt, I know I DO!

I can understand how that would be a pain .. but the fix is simple.. I use Handcent SMS (free in the Market) and have never had that issue. I have heard the same from other Handcent users. You have nothing to lose so give it a try.
I suggest a car charger in case you go out and end up using your phone a lot. HTC phones actually have pretty good scratch resistant screens, but would still recommend a screen protector.

Would just like to add that the BL lock does suck, but this is by far the best stock experience I have ever had on any mobile device. That also includes iOS.

I agree. HTC has done a bang up job, but dammit I want Stock ICS
I think Samsung has a lot more pull with the carriers too. The Galaxy SIII was the most hyped phone in a long time... I don't think AT&T would just turn down the Galaxy SIII cause Samsung wants the boot loader unlocked.
I doubt SGS3 will be locked. But still Im not mad about HTC's Bootloader lock since it works so well out the box (like the Vivid after ICS) as long as it works well, im happy. Honestly im not in a hurry to root since i wouldnt know what to do except mess around since i dont think i need anything improved as of today (except wifi bug, but htc should fix soon)

My biggest thing is tethering, since I would have to give up my grandfathered unlimited data plan to get it with root.
The only thing I would be looking forward to would be a debloated stock ROM. I am loving this stock experience. Oh and also for occasional wifi tethering.
I actually just bought this phone from the AT&T store today.. switched from a Galaxy S2, rooted with CM7.2.
The stock experience on this phone is.. amazing, to say the least. The display alone is just crazy. It feels like I'm looking at a photo, or one of those stickers on the phones you can't actually mess with in stores.
While it sucks not being able to root + drop a custom ROM on here.. I'm willing to wait until it eventually happens. The out of box experience is head and shoulders above any other Android phone I've used (Nexus One, Galaxy S2, Droid Incredible). If it never gets unlocked.. well, I'll still be happy with my purchase.

In no way do I have any solid information from T-Mobile regarding the new MyTouch line, I am simply posting based on information from tmonews.com, and other sites.
According to sources (and a very convincing video posted by the guys over at engadget), the newest Manufacturer to add the MyTouch to their resume will be Huawei. It is said to be a mid range phone, however testers have stated that potential buyers should not be concerned about the device being mid range, stating that it is very solid, and smooth in testing.
My only experience with Huawei has been very low end entry devices, so I am curious what other's thoughts on this might be. Give me your opinions in the comments!

i just got the new myTouch last week when it was released. I had the one from HTC as that was my replacement to my G2 from Asurion. Have the say the HTC one was a piece of garbage. Worst phone i ever had, thank god it broke a week after i got it and i was forced to get the new myTouch. This device is everything that the G2 was but better. Sure the HTC cam was a really nice piece of hardware, but only the stock OS could run it and that just wasn't worth running.

How sad we are thinking Huawei "stepped their game up". Its still got GB on it troll. The simple fact that Hawaii (or whatever the eff they are called, lol) is behind it automatically makes it a paper weight. Why dont you go "upgrade" to that and I'm sure in no time you'll be trolling here again because there wont be jack for dev. over there. Now kick rocks.

Huawei did step up their game with the solid piece of hardware. Have you used it yet? it's far superior the the myTouch4g slide from HTC. I'm not wrong on this. time will show that HTC dropped the ball on that device big time. It was a horrid replacement device for the G2. I'm not saying HTC is crap, i'm saying their version of the myTouch was...so in case i don't know what i'm talking about...i'm sure you're standing on the biggest little soapbox around.
peace.
btw...i smoke a lot of nice flowers!!!
and what was so great about the HTC myTouch4g if you think i'm wrong? The 3 roms for it were barely stable. Had to remove my battery more than ever. Stock rom was loaded with so much bloat that the phone was virtually useless. Even when they were removed, you still have to choose Maps every time you wanted to navigate someplace as it wanted to use TMo's subscription app.

Do you have eyes and the ability to process images? Then have I got the challenge for you! Look at our dev section and look at all thoses roms and happy users, count them, if the rom count is under 3. I'll give you $400

This genius is confusing the mytouch 4G Slide with the myTouch 4G. Not only is he wrong about that, he's posting in the wrong forum.
Two possibilities:
1) Moron.
2) Troll.
Either way, you fell for it. Arguing with either is a waste of time.

hi guys,
so i am in the market for a new phone and decided to sticking with Samsung and going to an S4. the problem is that with all the bs about the locked bootloader, i do not feel confident about buying the AT&T model and to be honest, i also don't feel like giving AT&T any of my money. so that leaves me with 2 options: go with the GE which is a lot more expensive and also only comes in white or just buy a T-Mobile model and get it unlocked so i can use it on AT&T. so my question is if anybody here did that and just bought a T-Mobile model and runs it on AT&T?
any other advice?
I bought the t-mobile s4. I run it on AT&T and have had no real problems. The one thing that I have noticed, running a few custom roms, is that LTE drops in and out.
I've also noticed some weird behavior regarding talk and data. If I take a phone call, data ceases to work for a few seconds. I'm pretty sure this is an apn setting or a rom issue. Nothing to do with the network I'm running on or anything like that.

How much did it set you back the tmobile branded one? Can you just walk into a tmobile store and buy one outright?

Are these roms AT&T roms or tmobile roms? That can be your issue, make sure if you are running tmobile roms to apply the right apn

so technically all you need to do is get he t-mobile phone, unlock it and then run whatever t-mobile rom you want and simply manually set the ATT APN?

That or just run a AT&T Rom. I am under the impression they are the same device, once you confirm that I would recommend just running an AT&T rom to avoid issues. If I am wrong please someone let me know. It would have to be the non Loki version.
Their may be some international roms you can flash as well
Please double check this information before flashing, even though they seem to have almost everything in common they may differ in minor ways (radios and so on) I do not have a S4 to test and have not read around.

time to do some more reading but i am pretty sure that i will go for the t-mobile one (can you tell that i really really don't want to give AT&T any money?).
edit: looks like you are right and most roms will work on the t-mobile device, you just need the correct kernel.

Lets just say if I was in your shoes and had the option of paying for the full price of the phone I would do the same thing.
I am more than satisfied with my active but if tmobile sold the active you bet I would get it

trust me, if it was up to me, i would have kicked AT&T a LONG time ago since i really do hate this company and how they treat their customers. however, since i don't actually pay the bill (my company pays for my phone and it is their account), i don't have any other option.

Honestly I do not mind AT&T at this point. Yes, locking down phones and cheating people out of money bugs the crap out of me... but they have been really good to me.
In the last couple of months they have:
1. Let me upgrade to the HTC One for $200 without charging one of my upgrade and waived the activation fee
2. Gave me the option of canceling all my lines early or take credits for my trouble
3. Gave me about $300+ in credits
4. Told me that I can upgrade early on my line that isn't available for an upgrade until May of 2014 (just as long as it is not an iPhone)... I'm going to save it for the next big thing.
How can I complain?

Yeah I got really lucky. Talked to all the right people and they were great. I find that you have to push a little and they will help, don't accept the first thing you hear. Everyone at AT&T will give you a different answer so it can be hard. I also noticed that a lot of them have different policies and things they can do. They have no idea what the other call centers are saying.

I have run AT&T as well as T-Mobile ROMs. I believe you need to (I have been doing so, after getting a black screen) run a T-mobile kernel though. None of the custom roms I have flashed have radios or modems in them. Generally, custom roms don't include them, because well terrible if you flash the wrong thing.
