[Q] Splash Screen not looking as it should - HTC Sensation

Hi there,
So i used some tools found in the HTC Section (which are actually from other devices, but anyway) and I tried to flash a new Splash Screen. The flashing itself works, but the picture is always not correctly shown. (See attachments)
EDIT: this is with every Picture I tried, png, bmp every one
Is anyone expirencing the same issue, or it would be even better, if someone knew what's wrong.
P.S. I'm a bit confused where this Thread should actually be, because it (splash screens) started in the dev section, but for me it's more like a theme
Thx

Hi,
Make sure you save it as a 24 bit bmp file, also the dimensions of the image should be 540 x 960.

It looks liek its a resolution problem, Isnt the Sensation the only one with qHD Screen?

it actually was the Resolution of the Picture, I still got it at 480x800, took one with 540x960 and it worked like a charm
Thx to both of you

depending on what picture you have, you might need to create a new one. Because the aspect ration is different.. That means, if you resize a picture with 480x800 to 540x960 then it gets distorted. If it has a simple background (black for example) then you could just add more black background to it.
The resizing itself could be done in paint, paint.net, gimp, photoshop etc.

Boot Screen

I am attempting to build an Ubuntu like boot screen for my phone with the default Ubuntu logon sound.
However in my failed attempts to do this, I have ruined/misplaced my original Sprint.Gif and boot.mp3.
Could one of you please email me a copy of your Sprint.gif and Boot.mp3. You can adb shell in to /system/media/bootscreen and cp them to you sd card.
You can email them to me kcarpenter five two eight AT gmail.com
Thanks a million in advance!
You could also grab the boot screens from the fresh pre kitchen. he has 5 other s screen as well as the original Sprint in there
I am on a linux machine right now, wouldn't run.

Does not need to, the files are all in folders, the proggie is just a simple .exe to access them. Just unzip and you will have all you need.
Doesnt have to, the files are included. Just get them from the folder.

Ahhhhh, thank you gents for the enlightenment. On with my screw ups. Any of you know if these gifs have certain requirements? Like can only have x ammount of colors? When I put my GIFs in, its like a broken video card - all staicy and pixelated can't even tell what the image is.
There may be code that specifies the height and width..
Did you match your size with the file you replaced?

Yes sir, 320 x 480 on the sprint logo. The XML file has some numbers but I have no clue what they are refering to.
ScreenX = 100
ScreenY = 130
Noj you seem to be the art guy, any ideas?

I may be incorrect about this but if you compare those numbers to actual screen size that seems very close to the size of the animation.
@ WTPhoto, the HTC and HERO images are 300 x 120 the Sprint image is 320 x 480 - I replaced the Sprint.gif with this one.
If someone has any clue what I am doing wrong here let me know.
I have another thread going about that specific problem in the Apps/Themes sub forum.
I am making a new boot screen for my self that mimics an Ubuntu one. Problem I have, is durring the animation, as far as I can tell frame 2...crap hits the fan. The image distorts in a funny pixelated way. Not sure how to describe it other than an explosion of random colored pixels. Well not so random colored, they are the colors that are in the image.
So I guess my question is, are there certain ways the GIF needs to be formated? Color restrictions? Frame restriction? In all the image is 32 kb so its not huge. I have it formated is a Animated Gif WebSnap 128 - There is no transparency.

EDIT:
Ok so uploading the image to the thread didn't keep the animation - promise its not just a black picture lol

lol like I said I I could be wrong. I dont know ANYTHING about GIF's never had any desire to mess with them until now. I am however pretty happy with the horizontal nexus one bootscreen just added the "fresh" sound to it.
be intresting to see if you can get this going.

Just another thing that stops me from putting my ROM out there, I don't want to have to fix this crap lol.

got a request for one
1st guess is the x and y are either screen position coordinates or a timer for each image.
Can you setup a dl for your file, pm it to me?
I can make a animated gif from scratch if I need to

HTC EVO Wallpaper Thread

Post em up!
Walls sized 960x800.... yeah i know the EVO resolution, but this is the correct size...same as the incredible
Here is a collection that i stole from another site... i take no credit...i just .rar'ed em up.

40ish nice walls.
Why 960x800?
"The homescreen is 800 pixels in length and 480 pixels wide. The thing is, as you swipe between the 6 other panels, the wallpaper shifts a tad bit so you need to compensate for that. 960 pixels wide should be what all 7 panels are from end to end, not just the home panel."

edit: I'm not sure what happened, it got scaled down to 959x799 somewhere. I'll try and fix it. (uh, yeah, lets try this again... disregard my ineptitude.)
Maybe I am doing something incorrectly, but when i attempt to take my image and select them as a wallpaper, it prompts me to crop the image and then its all stretched out and ugly on the home screen. can someone provide me with some help on this...thanks

thanks!
When it prompted me to crop I just made the crop rectangle the size of the entire image. Then it just didn't crop anything off and looked fine.
Mine will only me to expand the box to a bit less then half the picture...so far ive tried playing with different picture sizes, but no joy. someone help, i feel like a window licker
Here are some i have
coming from the hero
I resized this picture i want as my wallpaper and even though I tried both sizes whenever I try to set it as wall paper it does a super enlarged zoomed in view as the wallpaper.
there's an app that will stretch the picture to go across all of the screens and use the full image.
does anyone know what this app is called?
I used to have it on my touch pro 2 with android.

What do you mean? Remember the wallpapers stretch over all 7 screens of Sense. So you won't see the whole image on your screen at once.

Wallpaper size?

Does anyone know what the wallpaper resolution is on the Captivate? Whenever I try and make a picture a background, it crops it to certain dimensions (yes, I know that you can expand and shrink it), but the cropped images always look awful. So if I could just feed it the size it already wants, I figure things will be prettier.
I have no clue, but I compared the orange crop area of the phone with the same image opened in Photoshop in my PC.
That gave me a crop size of about 960x800
I then resized the image and uploaded it to the phone. It looks great!
Here is the image:

[Q] What's a good resolution for Wallpaper?

We all know Android's wallpaper scrolls left/right, so wallpapers are not the size of the screen's resolution.
Anyone figured out what the right size for the Transformer yet?
EDIT: So I used the app "Wallpaper Set & Save" and Saved the stock wallpapers.
Guess what the resolution is.... 1920X1408!!! crazy.
It's 2135 x 1408 pixels. More details in my list here:

this is all so dumb, I can never get a damn wallpaper to show what I want.

I modified that template that's been floating around - resized and I added some yellow shading to show sections that appear as you scroll between screens...
Hope this helps, or at least gives people a springboard to start showing me the error of my ways.

The first person who had extracted the default asus trees wallpaper image said that it was 2135x1408pixels, and I had no reason to doubt them. I think what most people aren't realising is that there's an 'overscrolling' part to the image, so when you get to the furthest left or right screen, it scrolls a bit more if you try to keep scrolling. That image posted in the tips thread wasn't exactly to size by the way. It was just a representation of how the panels are, and what screens you see them on. The top and bottom of the image are only shown if you bring up the apps or home menu screen respectively. I'll probably modify it a bit later.
You can use any image and it will stretch it just fine anyways.

A great workaround is the wallpaper slideshow live wallpaper. Just put your 1280x800 image in a folder and select the folder in the settings. Positions perfectly and doesn't scroll off.
here you go... when you go to set the cropping, put the box all the way to upper left and expand it to the bottom right all the way... that should set the image to the center home screen, with some black bars on pane A B D and E... these are inevitable unless if you can source an image that is extra wide... use the image i provided to create the rest of your wallpapers... let me know if you have any issues...
Man, it's really hard making a wallpaper that has a picture of people/things and make it show up correctly, even with the template.
With patterned pictures, it's easy but a picture of something it's hard. Easy to just make it centered and have blank top/bottom/left/right, but it's ugly heh.
I think the Transformer/Honeycomb treats the tablet when setting wallpapers as Portrait instead of Landscape. I'd prefer it Landscape like on phones, makes cropping wallpapers easier.
If you want a wallpaper that works good in both landscape and portrate try
1608 width x 1280 high works good for me
Has anybody been able to get a definative answer on the right resolution to use for custom wallpapers yet? I to have tried a few different ones and am having 0 luck

I created the template, which is just that a template so that people can tell what part of the image will be shown on the wall. The new crop tool in 3.1 helps resolve this issue, but its still nice to build them outside of Android for many reasons.
Never really thought about the over-scrolling. That maybe because I like static walls that do not move. Its much easier to design interesting layouts when they are static.
One think that YOU may be overlooking is the fact that using the crop tool to scale a larger image WILL NOT produce as clear an image as doing so im photoshop and making the image fit with the native resolution of the screen. Is it a large difference in quality? No, but for graphics nerds its noticeable.

These walls are not large enough to be used on these tablets. If you want a good spot for HD walls check out wallbase.net I get most of my walls from there.
On another not this is the EXACT reason why I want an alternative launcher like ADW or LP so that I can stop the background from scrolling.
I think a more important question is the aspect ratio. Can't find the sweet spot for both landscape and portrait wallpaper
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
You can't use 2135x1408pixels because when you go to the gallery to fetch the wallpaper you select the image and you are confronted by the 'selection block' (where you have to drag the area to select your wallaper) and 2135x1408pixels doesn't fit within the parameters eg: it's to wide.
If you want to use something that big use 2135x1700
after searching around and trial/error, i've found that 2048x1504 works fine for me...

[Request][Bootanimation] Have images, can someone make a working animation zip please

I found a nice animated gif on reddit that I thought would make a cool fullscreen boot animation for the N5.
So, I contacted the guy who made the gif, and asked him to make some 1920 resolution individual frames for it.
Today I got a reply from him with an album of all the individual frames re-rendered in high 1920 resolution.
Here it is: http://imgur.com/gallery/ALyzv
can someone please take these frames (there is also a gif on the front of the album for reference of what it looks like animated), crop them if needed, and make them into a nice smooth boot animation zip please?
I know how to copy it in and do the permissions manually, I just need the zip file with the right frame timing etc
The guy responsible for the frames/render asked me to link his tumblr as credit: http://admiralpotato.tumblr.com/
Thanks XDA
Try this one first, if it doesn't work, give this one a shot. the first one I set the FPS to 0 in hopes that it would just run through it smoothly. The second, the FPS is set to 30.

Thanks, that's a great start, however the framerate really isn't working properly.
The first ~5? seconds of the boot it will stutter along at, I dunno, 2-3 FPS, after that it becomes smooth as it's supposed to be. Same case with both files.
More specifically: the first time it plays through the files (24 frames) it goes really slowly, as though it's loading each one one by one very unsmoothly. After that the animation is smooth. Any way to fix this?

It might be because of the high file size of each frame. Let me see if I can do anything about that.
Since the images really take up all 1080x1920 pixels, it's hard to get the file size down. This is pretty much the best I could get.

great job, the filesize is very impress, but... seems there was a problem when you were doing batch crop on the images, because they're all completely off-centre... getting so close to perfect, i know you can do it!
