I guess partitioning gives more space for apps, what else should it do?
yes but i changed my sd card after flashing. Do i have to partition manually or is it already done for me

You changed settings, or you changed hardware? You put your old sd-card out, through it away and out a new one in?
Do a datawipe, format sd-card, re-partitionate, then your clear
I was to hesitant for partitioning earleir, but since I create a swap and ext partition
my phone runs super smooth,
So all those who have not yet done it, please go ahead and enjoy the fastest froyo ever.
Backup your SD CARD data to PC before partitioning, else all data would be gone.

So im considering upgrading my SD card and going to a 16gig one from an 8gig one. I have Move2SD Enabler and most of my downloaded apps over on the SD card. What would happen if i copied everything from my current SD card and just dropped it onto a brand new 16gig one and inserted that into my phone? Would i not notice anything or would it break all those apps?
any help? Im sure there is a quick answer to this.

Hi,
I have upgraded my SD card by these steps:
- Make the titanium back up and copy all contents of your SDcard to the pc.
- Then change the SDcard for the new one & format it in your phone.
- After formatting, copy the saved contents from the pc back to your new SDcard.
okay but what happend with the ext3 partition ?

ext2/3 Partition u can access by a linux live-cd like knoppix.
or try totalcommander with the ext2 extension from a win-box.
I'm running MiniCM6 1.0.0 on my Xperia X8 with Apps2SD working. I have moved many apps from the phone to the SD card. The problem is that the card's size is too small for me. I need a 4GB one. I've seen many threads that some guys had problems when changing SD cards.
If I copy all the files in my current SD card and transfer them to the new one, will I have any problems? My apps will still be there, right?

You don't say whether the apps on the SD card are in the FAT32 partition or in the SD-EXT partition.
The FAT32 area can be read and copied using a PC.
Should be able to backup the NAND and EXT in recovery. (My phone is a G1 but I've used CM roms for most of the past year. The backups created in recovery are available on the FAT32.)
Always make a good backup in recovery. When you try the transfer to the larger card, you can always go back if something didn't work quite right..
Sorry but I'm not familiar with these concepts, I'm still a noob
Can't I just copy the files of my old SD card to my PC and then transfer them to the new SD card?
How did the change of SD Card go?
Im about to do the same thing and was wondering i its possible to copy all contet from current SD Card to my PC and then copy it to the new SD Card.
I have the Starburst ROM with Data2SD installed and want to replace my SD card with a faster card. Do I have to start from scratch or can I copy everything from the old card to the new card?
Not sure how this would work with the ext4 partition because Windows can't see it.
i would at least try copying everything to your pc and putting it on the new card to see if it works. No one said you have to delete ur old sd card.
and if worst comes to worst, youll just have to reflash the ROM
Not sure about the ext4 partition but when I switched SD cards I simply copied it onto my laptop and moved everything to the new one and it worked fine.

i must be handicapped!
for some reason i can not partition my SD card correctly. i am using clockwork mod recovery 5.0.2.0. i go in partition the SD card for 512mb 0 swap. format the /sd-ext. everything is all good from this point.
my problem is the rest of the SD card is not formatted.
so like a retard i stick the SD card into my windows 7 laptop and format it so i can put the rom on to flash. when i do this i loose the 512mb ext partition it made on the SD card.
what am i doing wrong?
is there a better way to format the remaining space of the SD card without loosing the 512mb ext partition? so i can put the rom on the SD to flash the rom.
Format SD card to fat32 then partition your card in cwm. That's all you have to do

afterwards
the how to do i get the rom to the SD card? because if i stick the sd card back into windows laptop it wants to format the card again and wrecks the SD partition.
is there another way to push a rom from laptop to the phone by USB?
After you format the SD Card in Recovery, choose mounts and storage. Then choose USB Mount. After that load the backup of the SD Card back onto the card. If you don't have the Rom in your backup, load it then.
oh okay sorry i didn't understand you clearly but i'd do what prboy said
easy
much easier. i have been doing it the hard way all this time.
thanks both of you for the help.
So then you got it sorted out?
I don't think Windows can recognize/format an ext partition as it's a Linux file system. I had to set up my ext partition yesterday and Windows 7 only read the left over space when I mounted it through the phone and a card reader(14gb card read as 13gb). Should be good to format it when you plug it in.

Hello All
I have been searching for an answer to this but cannot find it so decided to start a new thread. I am sorry if this is a repeat thread.
I have HTC Chacha (A810e). I have a 8gb sd card and i want to know a way to trick the OS into thinking that my SD card is the internal memory and my internal memory is the sd card. This way i would be able to install apps and updates without the issue of low memory. With this, all the android system files will be copied to the SD card as well.
I have successfully rooted my phone and installed the CWM recovery, eventhough it is s-on currently.
I request u all to kindly look into this matter and help me out please.
Hope to hear from you all soon. Thanks
currently i use Link2SD app
but first you need to have a second ext partition on SD card
it moves installed applications to the SD card

Try cronmod INT2EXT+ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 :good:
Note: works with a ext2/3 partition and the latest cm11 cwm
