[Q] Any Regrets chosing the Optimus 3D? - LG Optimus 3D

Hello, I fell in love with the Optimus 3D but i chose the Galaxy S2 because of reviews, and afraid the LG would be hard to resell at a good price when the Galaxy 3D comes out..
Now my fears with the LG 3D was the battery life and the video quality.. 3D 720p is actually 640 lines across (split screen 1280) so its technically just regular SD video. But i just love that 3D screen, however i dont feel like carrying 2/3 batteries in my pocket to use it all day.. But i still have 14 days to return the Galaxy S2 and get the Optimus 3D, please anyone out there can give me personal reviews of owning that phone? Any disapointment with low light, videos, photos, weight or bulk?
Does someone have a Optimus 2D 1080p video on youtube AFTER the v10b update for me to see how the HD looks after the rom? Thanks

noone yet has any opinion on the optimus 3d ownership experience ? has the galaxt s2 made you hesitate too?

I had a GS2 for about 3 months and picked up a O3D, have sold the GS2 as I could see no real drawbacks keeping the O3D over the GS2, it may have a better camera for 2D stills and can do slightly better 1080p video but is missing one key thing it can't take pictures or record video in 3D, so the choice was simple for me, I can do everything I did on the GS2 on this but have the bonus of 3D.
It all depends what you think of the 3D side of a phone, if its important to you then there is no reason to not get one, personally I couldn't go back to watching 2d things on the GS2 and recording videos/photos in 2d.
I am very happy with the phone all that lets it down is the battery life but am sure when Gingerbread comes out that will get addressed a bit as we all know Forya wasn't very good with power management and battery life.

I sold the SII to buy the O3D
no regrets
one downside is that in 3D mode you cannot use the LED "flash". anything indoors after 5PM looks awful as the gain is too high.
Looks fine on the screen, but if I put on my 3DTV or get the photos printed in 3D then it looks bad!

I am awaiting the arrival of the O3D (should be delivered within 2 days). My previous device was the O2X.
I tried both phones out the S2 and the O3D.
Still though I wanted a 3D phone, so when I saw what the O3D can do the choice for me was straight forward. I dont like the way the S2 lies in my hand its just to thin for me and it gives me a cheap impression.
In addition to that the S2 cant do nothing special it just can do all things the O2X can do just a bit better.
For me personally is the O3D my phone I would like to try the Evo 3D too but here in Europe we will be forced to pay huge amounts of money for a phone that is reasonably cheap in the states now.
If you want something really special that can get much better in the future (with 2.3) than you just cant help buying the O3D at the moment. I love how the phone feels and performs.
The S2 is already maximized you wont be surprised from it.
The O3D will last longer in my hands than the O2X for sure.

I sold my SGS2 right away after I got the O3D.
No regrets whatsoever...I love the O3D.

Thank you guys those replies helped a lot and i returned mt Galaxy S2 an hour ago for the Optimus 3D
Now i just need to learn how to put the v10d on it lol
I will do a before-after video upload of both to see the diference and share it!
Thanks!

cinemano the 3d environment was what made me get the decision to change the Galaxy SII with this mobile, I wanted to gain experience in 3d and inform you that I did not regret.... THIS phone is just Amazing.

I had a HD2 'androidzed' and was given an O3D to test.
Appart from the obvious 3D advantage, the phone feels really slick compared with the HD2 (snapdragon with CM nightly).
My use of the phone is work/office oriented primary, so i can not talk much about gaming, and since is a test phone I don't want to customize or root the phone, so appart of some apps the phone is stock. And I'm pleased so far.
The cons are battery (really poor if you want to use it as a mobile office away from power outlets) and keyboard (good response, worst.distribution.ever!). Both are easy to overcome with an external battery charger and a keyboard apk.
Anyway, this phone has the potential to be a real beast with a CM in it.

Make sure that you update to 10d before you root the phone,it will brick your phone if you try and update the sw after you root.

Just got mine today, replaced with gs2. So far so good.
No issues with wifi that I had with gs2 and no issues with gps that I had it with gs2.
My lg gets quite warm, especially around the top part of the phone, is this also with you guys?

Mine gets warm after like 30-40 minutes of watching a 3D video.

Yep the 3D seems to warm things up a bunch but that is understandable as it uses a hefty amount of horsepower to create the effect. Sometimes the phone gets a little warm when charging too but honestly, both are barely worth mentioning as they are only slight warmths. Not even remotely close to a warm laptop for example.

If you are using a case its unlikely you will notice it tbh.

o3d
Wonderful device absolutely no regrets.
After a day of use one wonders why not all phones are 3D.
Finding 3D content will be the biggest issue as there is nothing like 3D netflicks in europe.

Search yt3d on. youtube al lot of nice clips
I came from a hd2 this device is great, sgs2 feels cheaps to me

does it mean that if i root my phone even after v10d i wont be able to accept any official future lg updates?

Updating to 10D via OTA having installed CWM is a sure way to 'brick' your phone. Not really bricked cause it could be recovered but it won't boot again easilly.
I suppose it will be patched any time soon, but for now don't install CWM if you plan to accept OTA updates.
OTOH, I don't think rooting the phone is dangerous in any way... but I'm not an expert or developer.
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk

like someone already said, only bad thing is lack of LED lamp while you try to make a 3D photo....
everything else is great

2 serious drawbacks for me, one is livable with, another is frustrating. The 1st is the battery life, but it is ok with me coz I charge and bring few batteries with me all time. And the 2nd problem which is the lack of notifications led, it is frustrating to me. It is one of the most useful feature a smartphone should be compulsorily to have, but not in this high end phone!!

[Q] Sell my SGS2 for Optimus 3D

I am considering selling my Samsung Galaxy S2 for the LG Optimus 3D, as after playing with one in a phone shop, I am really impressed with the 3D and build quality of the phone.
What I would like to know is, if the battery life is worse than the SGS2? I know it will be in 3D mode, but what about 2D?
I would also like to know if the phone gets warm/hot after extended use? I hate the way my SGS2 gets really hot around the ear piece and camera after only moderate use.
What is the App memory size?
What is the signal quality like on the O3d? My SGS2 varies quite a bit.
Anything else you can tell me to help make a decision?
I do like my SGS2, but i'm really liking the 3d and solid feel to the O3D.
Thanks.

Having had a GS2 and having this phone now I can answer you I think.
Battery life is far worse than the GS2, as a example my phone was fully charged at 8am in Friday was over at my sisters for the day helping her out, around 50 mins music on the bus on the way, played a bit of 3D movies showing her, took some also, few texts but no calls, a bit of internet browsing, came home at 6 ish with less than 23% left.
Heat wise isn't something I have really noticed certainly not the the level of the GS2.
My T-Mobile signal seems no different but Wifi is better and gps for me.
I sold mine for the 3D side of this phone as I truly love it, but the battery has me concerned slightly, I don't drive so no way of charging it if required and i am missing slightly the good battery life I had before, do I regret selling it ? no I don't I just hope the battery gets better on this or I may have to re think things, or get another battery which I don't want to do have to carry another one around.

Thanks for the reply. I barely get 12 hours out of my SGS2 (less than 10 with heavy use), and coming from the iPhone 4 it's disappointing. I hear there is an extended battery for the O3D. I wonder if it makes much difference?
The heat problem really bugs me on my SGS2. Especially being summertime lol.
Can you tell me the space reserved for apps/games as I have lots on my phone so far.
Anyone else who has had experience of both models?
The more info the better
Thanks.

My 03d heats up also
Like you I am also in a dilemma too, do to the problems of gs2 weak wifi and no gps lock, they gave me the choice of phones if I wanted to replace it, I went for O3D, do to it's popularity it's seems out of stock and will get it nxt week.
However I now seem to be getting second thoughts, mostly the phone is good, but some say camera is poor, which am not happy about as picture quality is important to me, to be honest 2011 and 5MP just don't go together. And few other little things.
So I would also like to hear from people with both phones in hand and what they think of em.

Videocamera just got an update firmware V10d. Looks really good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C02tzF1sjjA
Unfortunately not for pictures. Lets hope in the next firmware it will also be upgraded.
You have to really LOVE 3D in order to justify this over the Galaxy S II.
The 3D effect is decent but in reality, it's just too gimmicky to be really useful at the moment. For example, if you take a picture in 3D, it's not really very good when in 2D, which means on your PC etc the camera performance isn't great.
Other than that, it falls short in every single area, though I suppose the wifi strength is a bit better.
I own both phones, so any questions, fire away.

What about the gps? Which locks faster without any other connection active, and how about sound and headphones? I don't much care about 3d to be honest.
I like the power of gs2 but 3d and hardware of o3d and resolution of sensation. All three phones have something that other does not, which makes it very hard to choose.
To cut it short, here is my comparison as I have both now:
Battery
GS2 - until the battery drain is fixed, you will need to try your luck. If nothing happens you can charge your phone once a day with light use meaning 2 hrs or mp3, light surfing and facebook etc. If the battery drain hit you, that will be less than 10 hours or even worse. If everything went well with correct tweaks, battery can last for around 18 hours.
O3D - with 3D game, you get 5 hours at most for the standard battery. That is when you play for 3~4 hours. Light usage is about 12 hours. If you tweak it right with background data off etc.. you get around 14~15 hours. The battery definitely won't give you one day
Connectivity
When it comes to this area, it's more like a speed vs stable
GS2 - data is fast with its 21mb, wifi is really weak even when compare to GS. If you have a very strong signal, it is fast thou. Connection recovery is not good compare to other brands, if it drops.. you have to wait for a while to get it back automatically.
O3D - data is at 14.4mb, wifi is much better than GS2. Connection recovery part is done much better than GS2 in general.
GPS
GS2 - forget it. It is better than the original GS where it never locks on. but it is nowhere to be really useful. I really hope that GPS works better on this phone.
O3D - very decent, it compares to the garmin-asus m10 which I have on hand. A small tips for everyone looking. get mapdroyd in market to use on O3D, then you'll have a good offline map.
Storage
GS2 - with its storage starting at 16GB It's enough to go even without external SD. 32GB coming out later, it would be a great bonus.
O3D - 8GB internal, can only say it is enough. The korea version comes with 16GB.. a bit envy
other things like memory, cpu, camera.. etc. both phones are springing off to different direction, really no point in comparing them as it is more a personal use and taste at that point.

I got my O3D on Friday and I just love it.
I sold my SGS2 right away.
Here are my observations:
- The O3D feels like a brick comapred to the SGS2...the thickness and weight is very noticable. However, the O3D felt more solid because of this.
- The O3D does heat up with intensive usage (say watching an hour of 3D videos) but it is definitely nowhere as hot as the SGS2.
- I get better signal with the O3D
- I get better wifi signal with the O3D
- The SGS2 is a tad snappier than the O3D (especially with stock LG launcher...put on any other launcher and it's just as fast as the SGS2).
- The O3D charges way faster than the SGS2 (the SGS2 takes around 3 hours from 0-100 with phone off).
- The SGS2 has a slightly louder speaker (handsfree and earpiece)
- The music via headphones sounded better to me on the O3D.
- The O3d has a cover to protect the USB port. Yes, it's a hassle to open it every time but it does prevent dust from getting in.
- SGS2 Amoled has better blacks and more punchy colors (if you like that...some people don't like the cartoonish like colors). I was slightly disappointed with 2 SGS2's that I had...both developed dead\stuck pixels on the screen.
- Games run great on both phones (however asphalt 6 seemed to run on the O3D smoother)
- Battery, I can't really comment yet since I just got the O3D two days ago. I managed to use the O3D non stop from 100% charge and it lasted around 8 hours...I remember when I first got the SGS2 and playing with it nonstop lasted about 6 hours.
- SGS2 has twice more RAM than the O3D. On the SGS2 free memory would hover around 400 and on the O3D around 190.
- SGS2 has tons and tons of ROMS, tweaks and optimisations.
- GPS is definitely better on the O3D
- SGS2 has bigger (16GB vs 8GB) storage...good thing I have a 32GB microSD card
- The browser seemed to be tied just that in the O3D there are no checkered boxes.
In conclusion, I am very happy with the O3D. The 3D is pretty neat. The SGS2 is also an awesome phone and I was very happy with it but I wanted to try the 3D so I bought the 03D. Feel free to ask me any other questions.
One more question guys, when both phones are switched off which of the two looks more blacker? GS2 really looked nice on the table with it's noble black body, does the o3d look the same?
They are both more or less the same black visually physically.
The SGS2 has a more black above and below the screen...the O3D has two strips of greyish brushed metal.
On the back the SGS2 is more black as the O3D is grey on the back.
LOL...which phone looks blacker when it's switched off and on the table?? do people actually pick a phone that looks blacker while sitting doing nothing over another phone that looks 98% as black as the blackest black that ever blacked..thanks coolfi you made me laugh...
If 3D is something you want you will love it ignore the people saying its a gimmick as it isn't, and it really looks fantastic and I just couldn't watch 2D videos anymore on the gs2 they just looked like any other phone plain and flat.
The screen is nice on the gs2 but a few commented how it made pictures for example look un natural with colours and not how they really look, oversaturated was the common thing I got, colours were much brighter when viewing the pictures on screen than they looked in real life which isn't' realistic.
A certain person has said its a gimmick on another forum and 3D isn't important to him so why buy a 3D phone for me , , I personally use this phone more and watch way more videos than I used to on my previous and its only because of the 3D.
The battery is my only concern with it I could easily get 24 hours out of if the Gs2 but as I been told by so many I am on this more than any other phone I have had.
My choice came to this, what can the GS2 do that this can't and the answer was simple nothing, each have pros and cons but I can do everything that phone can do on this.
Then I thought this can do one thing it can't ever do and that is shoot 3D video and pictures and play films etc in 3D and for me this was the clincher.
Lets not forget its still on a stock rom so things can only get better and Froya doesn't really support dual core cpus so it's being held back at the moment. Gingerbread will make a huge difference as a it supports dual core better, but you will always be one step behind the updates on this phone, the GS2 has been upgraded to 2.4 now and we are only set to get 2.3 on this in October.
My mate had a Desire HD and messed on the Gs2, he said its a nice phone but apart from the camera side it offers me nothing over what I have now, and wouldn't buy one, he said the same when I tried a Sensation.
When he played some of the 3D videos a smile came on his face and he loved it I can't get him off it when he comes round now he always using the 3D side.
He has decided he is selling his phone and getting one of these himself, anyone who wants one should test one really as its the only way to see if it's for you.
In all for me and I bet for everyone that has one, I have a phone that won't just sit on the side not used as much as it should as finding 3D stuff to add and view I am still doing nearly 3 weeks after having one of these, in that time other phones had lost its novelty and got picked up when needed, make a call browse something on the net for example, this phone has issues but so do all phones, you won't get a perfect phone.
Using the GS2 as a media device wasn't that important as I said before a video played back looks only as good as any 2D phone apart from the screen, it had no wow factor, I can guarantee if you whipped out your GS2 to show friends a trailer for example, then your mate said oh btw look at it in 3D on this phone your GS2 will end up back in your pocket as your friends enjoy the 3D experience, that sums the phone up for me.
Just now I showed the O3D to the first person at work.
I showed her the Tahiti clip and when the water was splashing towards you...she literally ducked to avoid the water...
Thanks for all the replies guys.
Sounds like the heat problem is not as bad as the GS2. I don't mind a bit of warmth around the back, but if it heats the glass up around the front then it's a no go!
I understand that the still 2d picture quality is not as good as the GS2, but I only use the pics to upload to Facebook or share with other phones.
Battery life of the O3D does put me off because if it is worse than the GS2 in 2D mode it could be a deal breaker.
Has anyone tried the extended battery yet?
The main memory doesn't bother me as I can add a memory card.
The reserved 512mb doesn't seem be bothering people in other threads, so I suppose this isnt a problem?
I'm not really interested in benchmarks as long as the phone runs smoothly.
I do really love the 3d mode and like the idea of watching Avatar, playing 3d games, etc etc. (cant afford a 3dtv unfortunately).
Maybe I should just get a Nintendo 3DS as a companion to my GS2 lol..
i've only played with both phones for a short while but i bought the optimus for two main reasons;
1. the camera is better (it shoots 3d, and really damn good 3d at that).
2. dual channel memory. faster memory is better memory.
i'd heard the horror stories about weak signals with the gs2 and that there are continuing problems with the gps. gps functionality isnt a massive concern for me but signal strength is as i spend a lot of my time in basement gig venues so i need something that will have a reliable signal in a difficult sitch like that. my wifi tests showed the o3d to be capable of around the 20mb mark which is pretty great. i dont know why the rest of you seem to think it can only do around 14mb as i consistently get around 19.5-20mb.
the touchscreen on the o3d responds better from what i've seen but again i am only basing that on 1 day of use.
based on what i've seen yesterday in using the o3d almost continuously all day (new toy syndrome) the battery life is amazing as long as you can keep yourself out of 3d mode. anything that uses the parallax function eats the battery bigtime and this doesnt surprise me. that said, last night i flimed nearly an hour's worth of footage of a band in 3d starting from about 43% charge before the camera told me "the battery is not enough for the camera". it looks like the battery will last quite a while if you can resist playng with it all day.
the one thing that is definitely a dissapointment with the o3d is the led flash. it's weak as hell and doesn't even go off in 3d mode at all.
i'm absolutely happy with my choice and would go the same route again though. excited for CM7.1.

Its a tough choice for sure I have no regrets getting mine, the 3DS's 3D is nothing like on this phone, it doesn't look anyway as good and you certainly won't be getting 720p in 3D.

yeah i showed the 3d to a few friends last night who are big ds fans and they all said that the 3d on the optimus kicked the utter **** out of the 3ds.

I practically get an instant lock-on with my GPS indoors and outside with my GS2, and as for wifi, even on 1 bar in my back garden I get the same speeds as indoors near the router (about 15mb down and 3mb up on a 30 mb connection). I think the wifi bars on the GS2 are inaccurate more than anything else.
My phone signal wavers quite a lot on my GS2 which I notice indoors when making or receiving a call and can cause voices to break up.
The most important things for me is battery life compared to the GS2 and Heat problems. Also Signal strength
I love the smoothness of menus and the screen on my GS2 and the fact that I can run multiple apps without any slowdown.
I have to say the 3d is impressive on a 3DS with the slider on full. Camera's are a let down though, but games are better.
Decisions decisions.....

Just Ordered The Optimus 3D, Right Choice?

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself as much as anything.
I ordered the Optimus 3d yesterday instead of the S2 which I have been waiting to get for about 4 months and in the end after reading a few people who are much happier with their 3D's than the critics I chose it.
Still on the fence in a way though, I read that LG had promised gingerbread for the 3D and I'm hoping that resolves some battery issues.
Can any you offer me further confidence I've made the right call? I do prefer to have something more unique than what everyone gets i.e. iphone, s2. But do you think this phone still competes with those two ignoring the 3d features?
In case anyone's interested I didn't save a great deal by opting for the 3d over the S2, decided to outlay £165 so that I could have a cheaper monthly commitment as 24 months but at £15 pm not too bad.
Also, any tips recommendations on what to do first/install when the phone arrives would be most appreciated. Cheers MaxCG
Everybody i show my o3d to is impressed even gs2 owners. lets golf 2 pre installed is a perfect show off
I had also been saving for 3-4 months for the Galaxy S2 until i saw the Optimus 3D in a shop.. then i started freaking out comparing the two for days. hesitating etc.. ended up getting the S2 because of the critics, reviews etc.. but sure enough the day after, I returned the S2 and got the Optimus 3D and dont regret it yet. But the charger is a peace of crap.. stopped working after 1 week. So using a third party usb charger. apart from that.. loove my phone.. Make sure to do the update of the LG (yu dont need rooting etc.. its a LG update) and the HD video will improve greatly!!
From my point of view, the only points where other phone could beat the O3D is in the battery life (poor to say the least), resolution (wvga when others already have qHD) and memory (512 should be enough? Without sense I do think so, but others have a Gb and this is about comparisions).
None of these points have a great 'Whoa!' Factor.
3D does.
So if you want to impress your friends, the O3D is a sure winner.

Thanks for the feedback guys, especially cinemano as it's good to hear from someone who actually swapped their S2 for the 03D.
I'll make sure I get LG's update when it arrives. Is there anything that can be safely altered on the phone to improve battery life unneeded software that runs? I like the idea of customizing the phone but seen already that a lot of people have managed to brick their 03D's so will wait till their's more consistent success with custom roms before fiddling with it.
Looking forward to trying to condense a copy of Avatar 3D and seeing how it runs.
This will be my first android phone, having bought a cheap SF for the Mrs. I was blown away how smooth it was for £80 compared to what was when bought, my £500 Omnia HD. Any tips on making full use of android on the O3D?
EDIT: Would an extra battery be a good idea and are they dear?
I am absolutely satisified with my o3d. i dont care about the resolution as long the 3d effect is better. i costumized my o3d with other launcher, removed bloatware, used setcpu, so i can get a smoother interface. And i can tell u that it is better than the Evo 3D. In 3D stuff and everything else. U cant compare a Dual-Core 1,2 Ghz 1GB ram device with a Dual-Core 1Ghz (newer generation) 512 mb dual channel ram device. Even O3D (with Froyo) is kicking Evo3D's (with Gingerbread) ass. Yes you can Overclock Evo3D now to 1,8 Ghz i think... but what is the point of doing this without dual-channel ram? And come on guys.... for what do you need to overclock these phones? Not enough power?? BTW .. i am pretty sure, that we will have the option to overclock our O3D in the future, for those who are Benchmark-addicted. And the good news that Cyanogen will support this device is even better, so our Smartphone won't be outdated.
Yes battery sucks, but the Evo3D is almost the same. My friend got the Evo3D and I had a chance to compare both.
I love my O3D and i dont regret the choice.
The battery is fine likes. Ive just been to a wedding and filmed 6GB of 3D video and used the phone normally for the rest of the trip, a total of 27.5 hours and i have 5% battery left.
It seems to settle out once you use the phone for a week or two.

I changed my SGS2 for the OD3 as well. Its amazing what this device can do even if it still runs Froyo. The 3D content is just amazing. The only think missing is Gingerbread, hopefully we gonna have it next month.
Dont know if i can post it here, but there is a link with a lot of 3D content so you can enjoy your O3D.

What's the best way going about removing "bloatware"? Don't want to remove anything important
Cheers for your thoughts typhex, though fyi the Evo was never an option for me. But good to know the o3D is beating the competition.
I'm really quite restless waiting for my phone now, should have gone to store. Plus don't think anyone will be here for delivery tomorrow, darn it!
I also changed my SGS2 for the O3D.
Absolutely no regrets!
Everyone I showed the O3D to were impressed by it.
You will enjoy it.
The LG Optimus 3D is a kick-A phone. My first Android smartphone, and certainly light years beyond the crusty (but recent) WinMo 6.5 device I had before. It's nice to have access to nearly everything imaginable now, and with lightning-quick speed. Perhaps the biggest drawback of the O3D is the never-ending desire to download yet MORE content and apps!
The screen is beautiful, and the thickness is not bad, considering the screensize and everything it does. I own (currently, but probably not much longer) a Nintendo 3DS, and I can easily say that the O3D makes it a rather redundant gadget.
Gameloft had 5-6 full 3D games for O3D for $1each a week or two ago. Got them all. Just wish there were some portable-size 3D movies to buy (don't really want to fool with the pain & expense of ripping & down-converting a 3D BD).
3D video is smooth. And this thing is the envy of all in your hands. Taking photos in 3D makes you much the 'traveler from the Future' when showing it off.
While the battery isn't the biggest, you can manage well by NOT using LG's own battery widget (I'm using the free version of 'Battery Indicator', and there's a noticeable reduction on drain speed). Also, I use Juice Defender Ultimate with default settings and that helps keep life. (And I use this thing a LOT.)
Lastly, look for the 1700mah battery by Chichitec on Amazon. It's really reasonably-priced, and comes in a pair with a charger. It's not a cheap knockoff though: these 1700's fare a good bit more usage time than the stock LG 1500.
Thanks everyone,
damonous, do you have a link for that "1700mah battery by Chichitec on Amazon"? I can't seem to find it on there, though I'm looking on the UK site. Cheers

You must have a super battery mines terrible I basically have used it today for 1 hours music, 10 mins internet and 10 texts, its been 12 hours 36 mins from charger and am down to 23%.
I have nothing syncing at all everything is set to manual updates I have had the phone for a month and a half now, it was the exact same with the other one I had also, its a joke and might soonn be sold as a good battery is important, I could accept using the 3D hammers the battery but I haven't touched anything 3D today I would expect normal use to be far better than this.
yeah... 6gb 3d Film ... 27,5 hours. it must be a joke. or he shut the phone down in between
I will leave mine recording 3D tomorrow to get 6gb and see how long it lasts, from some rough estimates of what I have recorded to do 6gb you would have to record around 2 hours of 3D video.
1 hour 47 minutes. About 20 photos.
3G turned off except when in use is the only thing i do to save battery really.
Ive noticed that when cell coverage is poor the battery drains faster though.

Everybody with drain, contact lg. mine battery was really **** full charge and with 6 hrs no use almost empty. now i got a new phone and battery and usage is much better
After some inpatience mixed in with bad delivery estimations the Mrs. has finally picked up my O3D from the post office. I've now been counting down the hours till I get home. Prob not quite worthed getting sacked over by just leaving now
4 hours to go...

LG Thrill....should I wait?

So I've been using an iPhone 3GS for a long time now and I want an android phone. I read about the HTC Sensation but it's on tmobile and I don't want to leave my grandfathered unlimited data plan. Question is should I wait and get a LG Thrill or get a Sensation?
How's the screen on the thrill? I've read that the resolution is bad. Is the thrill going to get gingerbread?
Thank you all.
AJ
Get the Thrill....
I agree, get the Thrill. I have had mine for two weeks now and it is the best phone I have used. The screen is real nice and gingerbread will be coming in October. Besides the 3D, this phone packs a punch!
Sent from my LG Optimus 3D with Tapatalk
So it's worth it to stay on the ATT network and pay a little more rather than go with tmobile?
I would get the thrill
my sister owns the Sensation and I own the Optimus 3D.
From what I've used so far, unless you can't live without Sense 3.0, get the Thrill.
For the sensation, I can't help but feel that its just a regular high end phone you'll find anywhere. Hardware isn't too different, and sure its using higher resolution, but that's actually not that great of a thing.
A few of the apps I tested out on the Sensation does not show up properly. What I mean is that it shows the app perfect and it works, except there's a lot of black spaces on the left, right, and bottom sides of the screen. But none of that would happen with the Thrill since most apps would work on a 480x800 resolution.
The screen of the Optimus 3D is actually very decent. Viewing angles are good, I dont notice any ghosting or bleeding or that kind of stuff. Its not that bright though. I compared the brightness of both phones and the Sensation seems to win there. But, after testing that out, I lowered brightness down to half for daily use so I'm not sure if that's such a deal breaker.
You shouldn't be worried about the screen, because there's no problems there.
And the Thrill will definitely get Gingerbread. LG has already stated that the Optimus 3D will get that update in the coming months and it should be a bit later for the Thrill.
So, if I were you, I would go for the Thrill. 3D is actually very useful to have. After I used the Optimus 3D, the Sensation doesn't feel too spectacular anymore.
If you dont want the wait buy a unlocked Rogers one same frequencies so it should work fine
How does the thrill stack up to the sgs2? If I don't care about 3d stuff is the thrill still for me?

Depends on what you want it for
Pros and Cons vs the SGS2 (IMO)
Cons
Battery time (LG O3D/Thrill is a power hog due to unoptimized power usage that will hopefully be addressed in later software and power hungry hardware, will get better but most likely SGS2 will give you more lifetime, I solve this by having a $30 5000mAh portable charger that works great)
Screen (if you don't use the 3D at all the screen is a negative, not as good with colors etc, needs more power and so on, it's not a bad screen (it's good as well) just designed for 3D and not low power consumption etc)
RAM (while IMHO 512MB (2X256) of ram with dual channel is preferred to 1GB single some will list this as a weakness of the O3D, won't really matter for normal use, but if you want to run 1500apps at the same time you might prefer the bigger size over speed)
Storage (SGS2 has 16/32GB, O3D has 8, sucks I know but you can always put in 32GB more but as you can also do that in the SGS2, Storage goes to SGS2)
Pros
3D (Well the 3D is good and actually nice for pictures etc and with Fuji-films 3D printing and more 3D hardware coming to market it's more than just a gimmic)
Development (While not set in stone the development opportunities for the O3D is enormous, much to the fact that TI shares their code for the chipset like no other, CyanogenMod development is in full swing with 3D features, Radio etc already working even though it's just started and not even nightlys are out yet)
Media support (The O3D if the phone with most media support hands down and it's really good, with the HDMI out this effectively makes it a portable media station unlike any other phone and that's not even counting the fact that you can plug it in to a 3DTV)
FUN Factor (The SGS2 is a stable and very good phone no question but that also makes it a bit boring, for me at least, the O3D has so much potential with the dual core, dual memory, dual channel and TI's open source code and the 3D on top of that give it that extra)
As for resolution etc, 800x480 on a 4.3" screen is enough unless you tend to hold the phone 5cm (~2") from your eyes, I don't have 20/20 vision, far from it but I've never felt that the screen felt unsharp or anything like that and the screen preforms well even in sunlight.
If you are into 3D then this phone is for you.
The 3D is done pretty well.
If not then maybe you should check out other options.

I just picked up one of these bad boys. While it isn't as snappy as my Atrix, (I'm hoping it's just because it's still stuck on Froyo), it's still a very fun phone to use. I haven't had a 4.3" screen in a while, and although the phone itself is a bit bigger, I forgot how nice having that much screen size was. The 3D effect is awesome. I took a couple of shots of my dog, and he's just that much more adorable on picture now. The only drawback is that the Thrill is my only 3D device, so I'm kind of stuck just seeing it on that screen. Also, if you're a big Picasa/Google Photo user, just a heads up that the *.jps 3d images that the Thrill takes will not upload to their servers until you rename them to*.jpg.
If you're not really into the 3D, I would pass on the Thrill for a SGS2 if you wanted to stick with AT&T.
They're a great deal at only $30 at Costco.
picked mine up today!!! cant put it down hahaha
really recommend it.. its pretty darn quick and i wasnt really interested in the 3d but LG did a really good job with it!!!

Happens to me too. I believe this is because we're still on 2.2
and its 2.3 which supports FFC
it's actually 2x512mb ram.
technically there is a gigabyte but because it works as two copies of the same data there is only a useable value of 512mb.

It has stomped the sgs2 attain that i got to play with in every benchmark I have put them through. the 3d exceeded my expectations...overall very pleased considering it got such bad reviews. i may actually keep it.

Haha, I'm in the same situation here. The phone fared a lot better than I expected and now parting ways with it isn't going to be as easy as I thought it would be. The 3D was cooler than I expected, but I still think it's a gimmick at the end of the day.
A few weeks from now - once there's a good dev community - I can see this phone doing pretty well. Right now, it's still pretty mediocre in my opinion, but not as mediocre as some of the reviews make it out to be. lol.
I was originally turned off from getting this device because of the bad reviews... however I picked mine up today and am happily impressed with everything it can handle!!!
Only my first day but already like it better than the infuse...

[Q] your experiances with optimus 3d?

Im currently in a debate whether or not to swap my galaxy s2 for an lg optimus 3d and id thought it would be best to ask people who actually have them as there everyday phone. do you think it would be worth it and also what are the pros and cons of the device? thanks in advance
Well having come from the LG O2X myself I've found that initially, although the hardware is better and more future proof (eg. the next Google phone is rumoured to have the same chipset as the O3D) that in daily use I find that it can be a little laggy sometimes, the menus not scrolling 100% smoothly stuff like that, nothing major, it could be just me being a little picky! The battery isn't that bad either, I normally charge mine every night, but then I did the same with my O2X. If you use the 3D a lot, which you will do at the start it will run the battery down a lot quicker.
I also think that this phone is lacking developers and roms but, it is in the early stages of development, although I do believe that they will come as soon as CM7 is up and running and if the next Google phone does have the OMAP4 in it, there will be lots of ports and lots more developers.
This is just my opinion and I'm not trying to say that the current developers and roms aren't any good but its a new phone and people are still getting used to what it can and can't do at the minute...
how do you find the camera? i know the one on the galaxy s2 is amazing.
the camera on the gs2 is better...if the gs2 camera is 9/10,the optimus 3D camera is 7,5/10
I also had to decide between the sg2 and the Op3d. I am very happy that I chose the Op3d. I really dont understand why it has so many bad reviews. Yes its a little bulky and a bit heavy but if feels just fine.
The build quality is really good, the cameras are in my opinion are good enough for everyday use. Its very fast, I have no lag on mine.
I also think the battery life isn't that bad. Yeah if your on it every second of the day it drains quickly but for the average user like myself I only need to charge once a day.
And when the gingerbread update arrived it will be one of the best phones around.
Just get one!

Seriously? I went for the optimus over the Evo 3D specifically for it being LG as had another LG phone before the O3D and it was great. Maybe I'm biased as they also make my tv but I find they make very reliable decent products so would disagree that LG sucks. But the phone, yes it is really nice
The camera is good, though every now and then in High Def 3D recording you can see a slight stutter. I like the default interface so haven't changed it but, as with all Android devices, a number of useless apps run that even when you kill them just restart within minutes.
Not found any lag myself and I use mine a lot to browse the internet and play games and 3D content but did find it couldn't handle the game Plants Vs Zombies though some say its because that needs 1 Gigabyte. It ran but so slowly it was unusable.
I think when gingerbread is available for it the O3D will be even better, as I have it on my old LG GT540 (unofficial rom) and even on that it's fast. My only slight gripe with the Optimus 3D is that in 3D mode you can sometimes see the touch screen sensors which can be distracting.

LG has maybe the best TVs and PC screens but also maybe the worst phones. I got my phone bricked 3 times already from the LG Mobile Tool without having it rooted or anything. The built in updater has also critical issues but the most of the times it works decently. What I'm saying is that everything (software-wise) that is LG related on the device is really but really unreliable. They do have a decent 3D menu though.
I think youd be happy whichever one you go for as both are very capable pieces of hardware. Stock software is what it is. There are clearly more aftermarket custom roms for the gs2 at the moment but there will obviously be many more developments on that front for both devices in the months to come.

LG Optimus 3D P920 review

Hello. I'm new to this forum.
Can LG Optimus 3D P920 users please give a quick review of the phone. I heard that LG devices are breaking a lot. I don't mean in two pieces, but hardware problems. I wanna know if it's true?
Are you satisfied with your LG Optimus 3D P920?
thx in advance for answering me.
Very satisfied.
Phone looks good, feels good. Really love the design. It just feels so balanced.
Hardware is excellent, no problems at all. Haven't heard of hardware problems.
Software is decent. Would be considered excellent if it was a year or two ago.
Wow factor is still on 3D and the potential of dual channel
I haven't regretted getting this phone.
Current problems are pretty much outdated version of Android and lack of active developers.

Excellent phone over all.
Used a HTC sensation, iPhone 4 and desire hd before this one.
performance of the phone is very good. The 512 mb of ram works fine. Only issues I have found is when you are multitasking heavily playing the asphalt 6 in 3d does create some lag.
Feel and ergonomics of the phone are excellent, it is large compared with almost anything but has a very nice screen, good resolution and colour saturation. Responds nicely to touch. The brushed aluminium on the front with the strip on the back creates a nice simple look. Not as well built as the HTC but still nice and better than the Samsung.
Camera is ok. Low light conditions the shots are not very good, during the day works fine. On par with the Samsung and sensation.
3d camera works brilliantly, very good depth of 3d which is adjustable .
3d aspects of the phone are of course its highlight. It is amazing and no one will deny that. Watching movies and moving photos into 3d you can really tell. The sample videos lg provide really show it off.
Software is probably the phones downfall. Mine is rooted so there isn't to much of an issue in terms of me missing out. However the upgrade is missed in terms of performance and battery life aswell as some options. Should be on its way soon I hope.
Battery life of the phone is very poor as standard. Even with auto sync off you won't be getting more than 7 hours out of the phone with casual use.
Saying that after rooting and using Acura custom ROM , live wallpaper all settings set to push and brightness on full I get around 10 -12 hours with a lot of use.
Its just a quick review, hope its helps. Out of the phones I have Owened (which is a lot) this is possibly my favourite. Take away the 3d you end with a to of the range phone with very high benchmarks only behind a s2 and 2x. its not a gimmick , you wouldn't be disappointed

Missing options such as official front camera support among other things.
You can't have individual ringtones for the contacts app. Not possible.

I have to agree, my previous Android phone is also made by LG and their phones do seem sturdy and well built (my dad uses my old phone which ironically has gingerbread on it already and flies along so O3D should be even better when the gingerbread update finally arrives).
Have dropped both phones and both still working fine, had a problem with phone rebooting since most recent update but after some searching it seems that was related to a sleep setting and not the update itself.
HDMI output quality is good, phone speed is good, 3D playback is brilliant, the 3D game converter is great and well worth the update, battery life is not great with the stock battery (probably the only real flaw with the phone), only 512 Mb Ram which sounds bad and I wish there was more because it would future proof it better but it really doesn't seem to impact performance in any noticeable way.
Phone is loud, which is good, and phone calls are clear except through loudspeaker which is loud but not so clear but overall a good phone, great if you like 3D

Did any of you had a problem with suspend process which is draining battery. My battery lasts only.few.hours. gingerbread should increase battery life but i don't know if it will.fix this or how to fix this at all...
