I'm not a techie, so I need a little help getting started with the ver mods that jesusfreke produces. I've rooted my G1 using the CoolPStuts videos, and have installed the auto rotate and multitouch updates. My question is, what do I need to do from here to be able to use the JFupdater on the marketplace and installing the JFv1.42 mod? From what I understand, the root process is the same, but I'm not sure how the other 2 mods may work with any additions. Do I just download the 1.42 update and Alt+L, Alt +S to patch?
Here's a little phone info:
Firmware: 1.1
Baseband: 1.22.12.29(I've downloaded the radio update, but wanted to wait to hear if there's anything else I need to do first.)
Kernel Version: 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #1
Build: kila-user 1.1 PLAT-RC33 126986 ota-rel-keys, release-keys
Would love to learn more about modding safely and have only read great reviews of the JF mods, so any help would be apreciated. If you could point me to some solid sites, I'd appreciate that also.
Hi, I have scoured the web for information but several hours later I am none the wiser.
I would like to root my device in order to optimize its performance. I am super confused about: cf-root, mobile/pc odin, android version, etc. I still have no idea what is appropriate for my device. :crying: Please point me in the right direction.
I have found may threads out there with very detailed instructions, but I can't figure out if that's what I need. I'm apparently on Gingerbread, but what do I need now? The Icecream, the other one?
Reason for rooting: phone too slow with so many apps loading themselves in the background. I want to be able to prevent all these [expletive deleted] apps from loading themselves automatically. I also want to remove the stock apps I don't need (but can't now remove). I'm tired of factory resetting every other week to improve performance.
Ultimate purpose: phone, sms, whatsapp, news. That's it. I don't need 3d porn or anything. :angel: My needs are extremely minimal.
Thanks for any pointers! :good:

Thanks Sewrizer. I'd rather brick the phone than pay for the service. I already have a more recent phone, so this is more of a second device. It's just that I like the typing better so I haven't completely stopped using it. I guess I'm sort of relishing the idea of an experiment with it as well.
Do you have a link to instructions for the above? If it works for your friend, it's good enough for me.
Unless I hear something back, I'm getting ready to try this:

thanks a lot.
which cf-root?
Thanks Sewrizer. As it happens these are the instructions I started with, and from which a lot of confusion arose (I can't post urls yet).
The first link is to Odin3 v1.85, but I have found Odin3 v1.87. Not sure if there is a later version. It says somewhere that the latest version is best.
The second link is to a series of posts with many download links. Somewhere down the page it states that if you're confused, then:
First, go to Settings -> About phone -> Build number. It should say something like FROYO.xxJPy. It's primarily the JPy that we are interested in. Try to match that with a download link available in this (and the next few) posts. Some of the downloads dont just have JPy file name format, but are called xx_xxx_JPy.
Let me explain that. Samsung isn't always very precise in naming/marking their different (leaked) firmwares. CF-Root's are modified kernels, the filenames explain in more detail which exact firmware ROM the base kernel was taken from, for those experts who understand.
If you are not one of those people, go back to the JPy thing. The "y" in JPy is 0-9, A-Z. If they run out of numbers, they use letters. So A would be 10 (9 + 1), while Z would be 35 (9 + 26). Find the one that is closest to yours, if yours is not present, and flash that one.

Well, my build number is of the form GINGERBREAD.zsjv6, which doesn't fit the pattern described (I don't see any JPy, I see jv6), so which version of CF-Root should I download?
GT-19000. Firmware Version: 2.3.3. Baseband Version: I9000ZSJV6. Kernel Version:2.6.35.7. Build number: GINGERBREAD.zsjv6

How to root your S3
Hi, I used one available in droid lessons, but i'm not allowed to post links yet. Just look in google for droid lessons and then " How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S3 " It was really easy, and worked great for me.

Looks like that tutorial was only good for stock froyo users. Since you have gingerbread you must have updated your phone. I think you may have to downgrade from 2.3 to 2.2.

yes you're right I did upgrade at the Samsung store. I'll follow up your link now, but it's starting to sound awfully complicated :silly:

I couldnt see where to post this so I appologise if its in the wrong place.
I have an Allwinner tablet and have been having problems with it for a few weeks.
9 times out of 10 it wont get past the android screen (it seems to lock up). The times when it does eventually load up, it sometimes locks up/freezes (while using apps and also on the lock screen) to the point where i have to turn it off.
I have done a factory reset twice and it hasnt made a difference.
The specs are (from the about section):
Dualcore A23
Model Number: Allwinner-Tablet
Android Version: 4.2.2
Firmware version: V2.0
Kernel Version: 3.4.39 [email protected] #56
Build Number: polaris_a700-eng 4.2.2 JDQ39 20140221 test keys
I've been searching the internet to find anything that might help and the only thing I can come up with is to ROOT and new ROM but I have no idea where to start.
Does anyone have any advice or some guidance with how to ROOT and install a new ROM?
Thanks in Advance.
54 views and no reply, surely someone has got advice?
Just try getting at least 2-3gb space Free on internal memory, these tabs will give you problem if internal memory is almost full

Hello. I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask, but at this point, it can't really get much worse. I know that this is a good, reliable site, and I figured that if anyone could help me, they'd be here.
I got a VL-107 (Visual Land Prestige 7) the other day and it's been a nightmare. I can't use Pandora because it crashes constantly, I can't use my favorite texting app because it freezes and crashes the moment I start typing, I can't use Snapchat because "my device isn't compatible". I spent several hours yesterday just getting the Play Store installed and working.
I suspect that the OS is the main problem (4.1.1, but I've never seen such a horrible Android OS, so I don't know if it's clean), and I'd like to update to a more recent Android version (hopefully 4.4.2 or so). I've seen a lot of stuff talked about, like Clockwork Mod, something called LiveSuit, etc but the most recent .img file I've seen was I believe 4.0.3, so obviously that's not what I'm going for.
In some places (maybe tabletroms), I've seen talk of people being able to make modifications by treating their VL-107s as "Allwinner tablets", but I didn't fully understand whether that would still be valid. I'm willing to do some experimentation with updating if need be, since at this point I basically consider the tablet as good as bricked.
I have a basic understanding of installing ROMs, and my tablet is rooted. There are no system updates available.
Specs (I don't fully understand these, so go easy on me):
Model Number: VL-107
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: inet1.0_20121016
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+, [email protected] #19, Fri Jun 21 14:04:01 CST 2013

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Based on the kernel version, looks like you have been upgraded to something custom already, and it's buggy. You may want to go back to 4.0.3 for some stability. At that point, some of the failed apps you tried may start working (assuming they don't have a minimum requirement of JellyBean or KitKat).
I would, check out this thread, it's the best place where your device experts can be found:
> General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking > Creating a Backup/Recovery/Dump
Note, in order to post there, you will need to have an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot, I found out that I'm registered already so I'm going to head over to that board right now and see what I can find. I'm happy to go back to an older version if it means a working tablet.
Help Request: [P3110] Cm13 Android 6.0.1 Custom Kernel, Root & Test Review (Updated)
Greetings Everyone;
I've flashed "CM13 Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) [Unofficial]"
[Detailed Info]
Android Version: 6.0.1
CyanogenMod Version: 13.0-20160911-1524-Unofficial-expressowifi
Build Date: 11/09/2016
Build Number: cm_expressowifi-userdebug 6.0.1 MOB31e f5b160c161 test-keys
Kernel: 3.0.101-g34c045f
I'm Extremelly Happy with it.
So far i believe everything is working (almost) perfectly - Not much to point out so far.
The only things i can point out are:
- In some Wifi Networks, the Wifi won't get Stable (Works great at my own Network at Home, but Constatly Disconnects on My Job Network) - Yet I'm not 100% Sure if this issue is related to CM 13 6.0.1 ROM.
- Battery Consumption is above Normal (as expected, but I noticed that it consumes too much battery and that it will still discharge while charging.
I.e: While playing (i.e: Playing SimCity). However it will still it hold on for a Really Great Time While under Intensive use.
* Aprox. 3h ~ 4h (On Battery)
* Aprox. 4h ~ 6h (While Charging / Discharging)
Normal Usage: It works perfectly normal (specially great power saving while device is idle / standby).
Due to this Battery Consuption Issue and for Battery Saving / Overclock Purposes i've been looking (without success) for:
How to Root Android 6.0.x and a Custom Kernel that would let me Underclock (For Longlasting Battery) / (Overclock for Performance Purposes)
After some extensive search i could find this XDA Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/galaxy-tab-2-unified/rom-cyanogenmod-13-cm13-0-t3303798
But as far as i understand it requires to be compiled; and i have no skills on how to do it (Never tried it to be honest).
Can anyone point me out on the Good Direction for:
- How to Root;
- Custom Kernel
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards;
Richard G.
Andi cm13 rom is perfect I'm using it and won't change it for anything else except the N rom.
If you are looking for for a good kernel to overclock or downclock this is the only one compatible with it with minor issues (the boot iui will turn 90 degree) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183830
Other than that everything is fine...

Hello Zidane01;
Thanks for your prompt repply.
I believe i'm using Android-Andi's CM13 Rom (I really don't remember the website source).
However i updated the thread and included detailled information about it / what i am doing here.
I think other p3110 users without this ROM will apreciate the information above.
Did you manage to Root / Get Root Permissions with that ROM? (if so, How / Where? - Manually; with CF-Root; other method?)
Regarding the Kernel:
I Will give it a try, and write some more about it later.
I've been reading the Dhollmen Kerned Thread; the issue is known among other users as well. It will Most likely be fixed in the future (hopefully).
I don't know wich file you've flashed in your device; however according to the Thread:
Quoting (With Slightly Improved English and 1 Tip)
" If you're on Marshmallow then Flash Latest "DhollmenM Kernel" (Notice the Capital M); but i dont think it will boot up on new CM 13 Builds.
Important: DON'T Flash DhollmenCM as this is for Jellybean CM10!!!!! "

Hi. All Andi and Ziyan roms are already rooted . To get root access you have to go to settings then about my tablet go down to build number then keep hitting it until you get developers access now go back and in developer options go to root access change it from disabled to apps only or apps and adb if you are planning or know how to use adb
