Sensation or DHD???? - HTC Sensation

Ok I just got the Sensation and already own a DHD I am torn as to which one to keep. I love the Sensation but noticed the battery gets very hot compared to the DHD . I have read the forum and there is no solution to the hot battery yet.. So now I am torn between keeping the Sensation or the DHD. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The sensation is dual core. Every dual core device gets a little bit warmer then single core devices.
If your hands are to soft to deal with it, change it back. ;-)
Btw. under normal use my sensation doesn't get really hot?!

I was playing a game on it when I noticed it. Did you get a different battery for yours? How do you like it so far?

In games that's a absolute normal behavior.
I ordered the chichitec 1900mah but it's not there yet.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk

Yes games will make it much hotter than under normal use because of the fact that they use much more power. As for battery life it is worse than most single core phone because of the fact that you have more to power. The ability to flash custom roms to the device will enable much more optimized roms. This will "hopefully" make batteries drain slower. Also if you look in the accessories section you will see a lot of suggestions on different batteries.

I had a Desire HD since release date and it was a great phone (best i've ever had) but then i won a Sensation from HTC Australia, so i thought i might as well use the newer phone and sell the DHD (which i've gotta do soon).
After using my Sensation for about 2 weeks , i'd have to say it is definitely a better phone. It's faster, has a brighter (& higher res) screen, the batter has been lasting longer and feels better in my hands. Although the DHD is still an awesome phone with heaps of great feature.
If i was you i'd keep the Sensation and sell the DHD. Unless you need the extra money then sell the Sensation & keep your DHD

Thanks I will take a read through.

The Desire HD is still a capable and modern phone. If you have any issues with the Sensation then I would say return it. You can always get it again later on (or get any other, newer phone to come out in that time). You might even be able to score a better price if you purchase it later. So, again, if you have an issue with the Sensation now, then return it and buy it again later, especially when development matures a bit.
If you can't return your Sensation and have to sell it as used instead, then I say just keep the Sensation.

Thanks the sensation is actually brand new just got it unlocked and played a game on it to check the battery heating issue issue I was reading on it.

Get the Anker 1900 mAh battery for sensation from ebay for $10 and it doesn't get hot like the htc battery.

Ok I've just realize watch way to much sci fi..... Looking at the thread title all I could think of was Sensation or Dial Home Device lol (Stargate reference).

Due to the fact that the Sensation is rootet there is no question. Generally it is better than the DHD apart from the "heat".
So you have a newer faster phone

Is the sensation worth it?

I have a desire but plan to get the sensation next week. I have been following the threads on here and there seems to be a lot of issues:
3 types of screen some good some bad,
Poor build quality, creaking handset,
Data issues, cutting off,
WiFi issues, cutting off during screen off,
Sense keeps rebooting.
Would you advise anyone to get the sensation?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I think it was worth the upgrade from the DHD, so definitely worth it from desire.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
I also agree it was worth the update from DHD
Go for it. I'm well happy with mine. No real issues at all. There is slight creaking but it's more to do with the outer shell which houses the main body of the device. Overall its a solid piece of kit.

I have had majority of new handsets and to be honest the sensation is my favourite
I had the galaxy s2 yes screen is better and a lot faster (3200 on quadrant compared to 2032 on sensation) but the computer software is buggy and that's how you update any firmware pushes , its hard to get videos to play if they are on memory card
I've had iPhone 4 to and the sensation is better also updates are ota

I've recently upgraded to an unlocked Sensation on Orange from an HD2 and just love it; it doesn't freeze, creak, get hot, reboot, leak light or have a grainy screen. It just sits there, urging me to play with it and enjoy it, like a kid in a toy shop.
All I've done is play games, download music and silly Apps and I've even managed to read some threads here and download the Terminal Emulator to find out which screen I have.
I really enjoyed the HD2 and now have that for work as they supply some postage stamp sized Nokia thing and at 48, I can't see the blighter!
For me, the Sensation was the right move and I hope to enjoy it for many months to come. My son has the DHD and he's sniffing round mine, with his roms and talk of bootloaders!!! He can bog off and buy his own!
I upgraded to the sensation a few weeks ago from the Desire and to be honest the only thing that is better on the Desire than this is having root and s-off. Go for it

Yes.
Asked a similar question in the [Q] forum. Just picked one up.
After hearing approval from my N1 brothers, I concur.
Its worth it.
I read the complain threads here on xda and most of the time the issues are not as bad as the posters make them out to be. I have an Incredible S right now and before that a Nexus One. The Nexus One got so many complaints, but after I brought the phone it ended up being one of the best phones I owned. Same with the Incredible S. As for the Sensation I'll probably get one this summer.

Yes it's worth it for me! Upgraded from an HTC Wildifre so it's pretty much night and day with the Sensation!
Internal hardware wise the SGS2 are better but OS software implementation Sensation are the best plus the higher resolution support are way good for videos on Sensation, I recommend the sensation over SGS2 anytime. I gave u 1 example on just the lockscreen, with SGS2 u have to drag the whole page right to the top just to unlock it and that is irritating enough for me but with the sensation it unlocks the screen just with a bit slide. So it is still up to u again on what to buy in the end. U have to try it both before u buy any.....goodluck

Jasand the phone is bound to have a few glitches with software which HTC will fix in firmware updates the only glitch I have is the free RAM which is always around 129mb despite the phone having loads built in ... But I have run a few things at once and not had a slow down just use the built in task manager if your worried but to be honest android does a good job at managing background stuff for you
The only other issue is battery just use juice defender
What I would do however is buy from somewhere reputable as a few of us including me have had faulty handsets (hot battery and I mean HOT)
Good luck in your quest

Get a sensation or wait?

Here are some deciding factors for me:
Battery life (i want at least a day)
CM7/stock rom support - how is it? CM7 on my vibrant kills battery life and isn't smooth (the framerate is locked at 50 I think and scrolling logic is kinda weird)
Support from htc (official updates)
Sense (I have never used sense, I had a g1 and have a vibrant. How is it? Is it worth the cpu/ram usage)
Build quality - does the phone creak at all? Does it feel good in the hand?
I'm debating jumping on this phone or waiting it out with my vibrant. (I HATE touchwiz, and CM7's battery life hit makes it a no go) Any advice?
Just wait for sensation beats
Beyond the sound quality , there is some manufacturing problems in the current sensation, for example dust underneath screen
They may fix in this second generation of sensation
It feels good in the hand otherwise and sense interface is great

Now that I currently own one. I would honestly say wait. I'm dissatisfied with it.
the Sense , gets slow when you get a lot of widgets on your screen. Sense freezes and restarts after accessing the market. etc.
I am happy with the phone quality, however reception could be better.
I have 2 ANKER batteries for it and sometimes one of them won't last me a whole day.
Also when i type in portrait mode, the keyboard keeps hiding itself if i type to fast.
Photos are good but not fantastic. My Galaxy S took better pictures and it didn't have and LED.
i see no difference between my old Galaxy S (Vibrant 3g) and 1.2ghz dual core in the Sensation. You can see it in the quadrant scores but not on a day to day usage.
my 2 cents
If you are on Tmobile, HTC amaze and sgs2 are coming on Oct 12th. So better to wait and check them out instead of buying sensation now.

Although the SGS2 is a fantastic device, it's not all that much better than the Sensation. The only real selling points it has over the Sensation is the SAMOLED+ display tech, the onboard storage, and the Exynos CPU. It's also thinner and lighter. The Sensation though, has a higher density screen so even though it's LCD, it's nicer to look at (IMO). The size/weight issue is a personal thing - I had the original SGS and thought it felt too cheap and light to be such expensive device. To me, the extra heft of the Sensation makes it feel a nicer device, but whatever.
If you were upgrading from an older device, it'd be a tough choice as it is. If I were you though, I'd stay with the Sensation because you just won't notice $530 (or even $250) worth of difference
EDIT: as a side note, I did upgrade to the Sensation from a similar device - the LG Optimus 2X. I had multiple issues with that device though, and the Sensation feels like a dream in comparison.
I've just had the SGS2 and got rid of it for the Sensation. I don't regret it. What I will say is this : whichever one you have you will want the other!! But I can tell you that the Sensation is worth keeping. Find a rom that you like and personalise & tweak it. Personally, I'm using xl DI GIT AL lx "digitalized" ics themed rom. Very quick.
The phone is more of a premium handset in other's eyes as well.

This person is right.
Why anyone would get a device that's about to get outdated really, really soon makes no sense to me.
Id stick with the Sensation as well. Once it has ICS, it will be on the same level as the Prime anyways. Not as good, but on the same level.
Matt
I was waiting for the SGS2 to come out as well but now that it is out I actually don't think it is any better than the Sensation. I went to tmobile store to try it out and found that my Sensation feels better because of Sense. The SGS2 was not thinner than the Sensation imo. it feels bulkier in my pocket. I'm glad i went with the sensation instead of waiting forever for the SGS2
I'd stick with the Sensation and just load ICS when it get's released.
why bother with the SGSII at this point? especially considering Tmous version uses the same Snapdragon processor?
if you really feel the need to upgrade just wait out a few more months for the newer phones in the pipeline... at the very least until Nov. for the Nexus.

I would definitely go with the SGSII... Well I did, it's the better phone hands down. Longer battery life, not laggy like sensation as far as stock goes, it's been out two weeks and it's already rooted ( like a week ago) it already has a couple of ROMs and the super AMOLED plus display is stunning. Personally I like having a light device, it may be plastic but I'm sure it has better chances of surviving a drop than the sensation. Now on the other hand the sensation has a great resolution, very sharp and lots of ROMs and devs behind it so if you're into ROMs and customizing and all that than it should be good too. But comparing both phone stock, no contest, the SGSII is the better phone.
people should stop comparing SGS2 stock with Sensation stock!
Sense ROMs will always be slower then stock Android.
Main point of HTC phones are Sense. If you dislike Sense then SGS2 is the way to go.
I would also stich with sensation
Go to a shop and take a SGS2 and turn it on. Take your sensation and turn it on. Place the two displays in front of you.
At this point you will just have noticed the low res of the sgs2 and the blueish display of the samsung, and you will turn it off and return to the shelf.
Problem solved.

I caved in, I'm getting this damn phone

I couldn't wait any longer, didn't want to wait for HTC's 2012 flagships, didn't want to wait for the official T-MoUS Galaxy Nexus, didn't want to wait for Huawei's Ascend P1 S, even if it is 6.69mm thin. I decided to go for this phone, I'll have it by the end of the week. So, of course, besides rooting it, murdering Sense and having some fun with Virtuous Inquisition, what else should I do? I need some ideas, because once I get the phone I'll pretty much forget everything I wanted to do.
So, what do you suggest?
Case and a screen protector?

While having virtuous inquisition, flash HTC music app, then Beats. stick witch the HTC camera app, it's way better then aosp one. Also, I recommend flashing SebastianFM 1.5 oc/UV kernel. System tuner pro also come in handy to set everything up. Don't forget to use 4ext recovery beta 8
Try out the hypersensation rom. ICS + our camera + zero compression makes for great photos.

If you're getting the normal sensation you have to buy a bigger battery. I bought the mugen htc evo 3d 1950 mah, and it works great!
Sad to say but first thing you should do is see how hot it gets while running GPS, just to make sure it wasn't a defective unit like mine. Then obviously root, recovery, and have a ton of fun

Sensation = good phone with very bad battery....
Battery isn't that bad but the Anker and Mugen ones are slightly better. I've come to accept that smart phones need to be charged every day. Anyone who claims their phone lasts 2-3 days actually means "luckily I have no friends so I never need to actually use my phone" or "I left my phone at work over the weekend and amazingly it still had 10% charge when I got back in on Monday".

Not as far as I'm concerned. I originally bought the Sensation cash, then a month later I qualified for a free hardware update from my carrier. I opted for the Galaxy Nexus 16Gb, but after using that it for another month I sold the GN and kept the Sensation.
Other Samsung models may be different from the GN, but if the GN is any indication, the Sensation is a very good choice.

They're not that bad. There's just one undesirable thing is almost every single phone of theirs. The Galaxy S II has a freaking HDPI resolution, I mean qHD wouldn't have killed them. And T-Mobile's version is tainted with Snapdragon. The Mali 400 is awesome. The Galaxy Nexus is nice, but the camera... ugh. I wouldn't mind the 5MP, but the sensor is awful. There's noise all over the picture, and the ZSL seems more like a rushed photo than a good picture taken carefully and quickly.

Considering this phone does full 1080p recording, Class 4 doesn't seem sufficient. I don't take videos very often unless I am travelling, anyway, so even a Class 2 microSD would cut it.

I've had my Sensation since this past August and after many hours spent tinkering, trying out custom ROMs, the only problem I've ever had is that I don't see an icon when I get voicemails. I saw the notifications initially but after unlocking it at the end of that August I haven't seen the icon again.
If something happened to mine, I would consider another model but I'd probably try and scope out a good deal on another Sensation 4G. It's a great phone!
considering the low price it goes for on the used market its completely worth it!!!
Does it beat the EVO 3d?
Sent from my HTC One V using XDA
They're almost the same phones - Evo3D has dual cameras, 3D display and larger battery (can be bought for the Sensation as well) and 1 GB RAM (instead of 768).
Take your pick.
It's very worth, due to the lower price. I like my sensation
It's a good phone, you can get them quite cheap off eBay, mine cost very little (comparatively speaking).
Great phone, still loads of support from devs
I haven't experiences any problem like dust under the screen or the like. Everything works great, and sense4 functions well.
If you want a used and cheap phone get the sensation. But i advise you, if you're going to spend big then look for other phones like the Galaxy Nexus or wait for the GS3.

Yep. I thought it was a bugfest here too but since the price started to get really cheap last month I bought one and surprisingly it was well worth it. Very fast and responsive on ICS (specially when on Custom rom). Development is superb too. Only issue I have is the poor battery life but these can be solve by buying an aftermarket battery (something like anker or chichitec w/c has 1900 mah).
I bought mine for $250 last month
