Wanting to go from iPhone to infuse... - Samsung Infuse 4G

I have an iPhone 4, and looking to get an Infuse. What are the pro's and cons of this route. I am happy with my iPhone 4, and I have had android phones in the past, but wasn't to happy with the overall performance of android os. Plus there are way more apps on iOS , so Ineed to hear some thoughts.

I came from iPhone 4 about a month ago, and I couldn't be more happy with the infuse.
cons:
I think what I miss the most is how easy it was to sync with iTunes. There are apps for this but I really don't like them. Another thing that iPhone users will miss is the in line call control that the iPhone headsets offer. The infuse headset only has the ability to answer and hang up calls not control the sound level or skip songs( that i know of) and yes I have tried the iPhone headset with the infuse and it doesn't work.
pros:
The screen of the infuse is a lot better if you ask me, the color is unmatched. The speed of the device is also better. I think you can customize the infuse more than the iPhone even if you have the iPhone jailbroken. I did take me a little bit to get use to the interface but once I did I don't think I could go back to iOS.

I'd personally wait till the GS II and iPhone 5 are out in the next 1 - 2 months so you can make a better decision by comparing the 3 of them against one another. Either that or at least wait until another Amazon / Target type sale on the Infuse.
But if you were going to absolutely go with the Infuse right now its a great device. I nearly switched from my iPhone 4 myself (when Target had it for $50 tax free) due to the bigger screen and google maps navigation.
As for iOS vs Android: I never use widgets due to battery drain and the notification system on iOS 5 is a copy of android's so thats not something that will sway my decision anymore. I am happy that the Infuse got a working Netflix app. Google maps navigation is awesome but I'm not sure how much I could use it if I am on the 200mb plan with ATT.

I'm thinking about switching from my daewoo to a Lamborghini....enough said.

Captivate vs iphone 4

Hello everyone, my provider is sending me an iPhone 4. Which I'm not sure to keep or not. But I had very bad experience with apple before thier 3gs and would never buy. So if I sell the iphone 4 should I get captivate? Cause I love android alot. Or what you guys would do if you were in my situation please share and help me. Thanks
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I would buy either a Samsung Captivate or the newer Motorola Atrix 4G. I think both are great.
I'd vote for the captivate especially with CM7 getting closer to a stable release but I'm kind of biased toward Android now that I actually own a device with it (had an iPhone before it).
CAPTIVATE CAPTIVATE CAPTIVATE!!!!!!!! I was foolish once and truly believed in the iPhone. But it is sooooooooo not worth it. Being left-handed, I didn't have the same issues, as the media publicized, with losing signal and such. The biggest mistake that they made was switching to the treated glass. When you hold the phone to your face, the iPhone has a temp sensor that tells the screen to turn off. With the treated glass in the iP4, it doesn't dissipate heat at all. So lots of calls get put on hold and buttons are pushed. It's rather annoying when it happens all the time and on every single call.
Then there are all the dropped calls that Apple says is AT&T's fault. My Cappy doesn't drop anything. iP4 drops everything and heaven forbid if the phone is switching from edge to 3g and you on a call.
So again I say..........
CAPTIVATE CAPTIVATE CAPTIVATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My coworker has an iPhone 4 I have the captivate. He is bored 4 months in and I am a crazy rom junky. It depends on what you want. If you want the same experience day in day out for the next two years, the iPhone. If you want customization the captivate
Sent from my Captivate using XDA Premium App
To be honest, having used both, the answer is neither. The Atrix is the real choice, in my opinion.
I wouldn't touch another iPhone nor would I jump on atrix till the bootloader is unlocked. Now the cappy or inspire which I'd grab the inspire of you had to have one right now, its already hacked and awesome

I would never go back to using an iPhone. NEVER I SAY!
If you are a tech noob get the iphone. My mom has it and loves it, i would kill myself if I had. I love my captivate and can not go anywhere without it. Taking it to kenya in a couple of hours

Captivate > iPhone.
Its like total freedom vs. total lockdown... Its a pretty easy choice; Unless you like making the hippies at Apple richer.
I can tell you that if you were choosing between the Captivate and iPhone 4, go with the Captivate. I've had a rooted Captivate for a couple weeks (using official Froyo 2.2) and I also jailbroke my cousin's iPhone 4 and can tell you that the Captivate is much, I repeat, MUCH easier to customize for your personal tastes.
Go for the Captivate or the Atrix (Atrix is good if u r not really bothered abt flashing a custom ROM).
Browse through a few of the 1800+ posts on THIS thread and see all that you can do with this phone and then look at 1 iPhone4. It'll never change
Not to mention having to sync with iTunes, thats a whole different nightmare. The thing I love about the Captivate is the ability to drag and drop music and pics and video files from the pc and not having to sync anything.
First off, let me say that I think Steve Jobs is a kook. No Flash on his device, means no iSheep device for me. I'm a web developer and to exclude a hugely viable platform like Flash is absurd.
Captivate has been a fun phone so far...only because of the development community that cooks these sweet ROM's!!! If I couldn't flash new roms when I want...might as well buy iCrap.
2c
Well, the iPhone 4 is nice... but not as nice as windows phone 7. Just saying. I had an iphone 4 and my lg quantum does equally as much. I use android and WP7 though, and I switch out when I get sick of the other. Personally I believe the iphone to be a second generation device. It's like asking att to sell you a razr lol... I would go for the captivate. It's easy to customize, and they have some pretty sweet cases for it, if you're afraid of it breaking.
apps vs freedom
iPhone still has better apps and games selection.
Jailbreak suggested, as well as carrier unlock, with prospect of Apple blocking them.
No microSD slot.
Will die within a year or two due to irreplaceable battery.
Now for Captivate - crappy GPS depending on your luck (works for me), the battery is replaceable and upgradeable, carrier unlocked/rooted with custom ROMs, lots of development activities, world 3G phone, microSD slot, better reception, better noise suppression with Audience chip.
Captivate all the time. This happen to me almost all weeks, when some one with IPhone4 see my Captivate. They said what an awesome screen and you can change the ROM like clothes. LOL I said Iphone to the trash
for simplicity, choose ios, more on customization, choose any android smartphones.

Is captivate build better than galaxy s? And how hard is it to flash a rom? Not interested in motorola cause they suck with updates. And bootloader locked so either ill get captivate now or wait for sgs2 but have to sell the stupid iphone 4 first when I receive it.

I like my Captivate. That Retina display on the I-phone is amazing though.

Advice if you don't mind

I'm debating on gettin rid of my jailbroken iPhone 4 for a inspire.
Should I hold off on the inspire for something better coming out?
I enjoy my iPhone Alot and my battery life lol but I can't make my mind up.
User there is some dev support already for the inspire which is a huge plus for me, but I'm getting tired of the small size of the iPhone and it's limits to customizing.
What do you guys think?
Also I came from a rooted Aria and Captivate before I went to the iPhone

Hi, make sure get a dual core cpu on next acquisition. Apple or no apple to be fair. Android is fun.

this is definitely a great phone. you may want to hold off until a better htc phone comes out with either of the two: dual-core 1ghz or better, front facing camera. If the inspire had both of those, this would be the most beastly phone on the market. if you're okay without both of those, then the inspire is for you. sense is awesome - lots of custom roms with and without - all are quick too! i got used to the size of the phone quickly after getting it and i LOVE LOVE LOVE this phone now. hope you make the right choice for yourself
Coming from the POC Captivate, this phone is awesome!
I do wish it had a front camera though, but not sure when I'd use it...it's plenty speedy though in stock form, much faster than the Captivate.
Dual core would be nice, but I had the Atrix and it didn't seem faster. I think it's all about coding and what you want it to do.
A co-worker of mine is an iPhone to Android user now.. he is happy overall, but does complain about the battery..
I am stock and easily get 2 days of normal usage. Not sure how long the iPhone lasts compared to the Inspire, but I think you'll be happy with this phone. I too came from the Captivate, and am much happier with HTC. Gps is flawless, screen size is perfect for my man hands, build quality is great (except for the darn battery cover )
I say go into a corp ATT store and play with the Inspire for 15 min.. awesome phone IMO.

And also would the data plan remain the same or is it different for "4g" devices?

HTC has no plans for a upcoming phone for at&t. My inspire runs super fast and games and video streaming is beautiful. So a dual core is mainly for speed. Y need more speed if the HTC is super fast? And I would never use the front facing camera. I mean really. I got a Mac for that.
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
I'd say hold off and see the infuse4g. I'm leery about samsung after the craptivate fiasco but the infuse is getting great reviews from engadget (while they aren't perfect I do find them to be pretty good overall) and I dont know about you but the extra .2" of screen might actually make a big difference, I know the .3" of screen between captivate and inspire were super nice. I will tell you while the captivate had more metal parts the HTC feels better built (except that damn battery cover everyone keeps mentioning, really HTC, what were you thinking?!)
There's no wrong answer when you switch from iphone to android, it's like going from a mud pie to filet mignon, even if it's bad filet mignon it's better than what you had!
And may wanna see what to see if bootloader is locked
CaNt FiX sTuPiD
Kinda wanting to stay away from the infuse as well as samsung and the bs they put us through with the captivate, I'm headin to a store now to go play with the inspire

He told me I can use my old 3G sim are that I used with my old captivate, wait, what?
Sent from my iPhone using RedSn0w.
Well if you are ATT only I would either stay with the iphone 4 or get the inspire.
This dual core thing is not proven yet. I have not seen one phone that is dual core that is awesome. I am sure I and everyone else will want one in 6 months to a year but right now there is nothing impresive about them. Att only has one other dual core that I have read about coming and its an LG....No Thanks...
Just got done Playing with one at the store, the size would take getting used to.
Seemed sluggish here and there but it's a store phone..and the fact it didn't have any Internet connectivity sucked.
And the captivate next to it was running 2.2 what a pos haha.
Overall it seems really nice, well constructed, pretty smooth as far as animation went.
Now here's the hard part, I can easily find an Inspire on CL to trade my i4 for, but how much cash do I want?

I could also just use my brothers upgrade an give him my i4

The demo phone didn't have a SIM with a data connection? Ridiculous. They should've at least had it connected to wi-fi.
BTW, Best Buy has the Inspire for cheaper than AT&T. It is $79 there (w/ 2 year contract of course).

Thinking of trading new IPhone 4 for SGS2...should I?

Hi all,
A friend gave me his iPhone 4 for my SGS + about $150, which he then traded for an HTC Sensation. (Yes...I got a good deal from this). The iPhone 4 is in good shape, except the flash light doesn't work.
I've been playing around with my new iPhone. And its cool. I like how there are so many apps, and itunes sync is good. But I feel my old phone is more useful. I miss the USB mass storage mode. I like having music controls in notifications area. And I had a really cool Star Trek LCARs wallpaper that I made myself.
So I went to the phone market (I live in China) and they told me I can trade this iPhone 4 for a new SGS2 outright. Now before I pull the trigger on this, I would like to ask 2 questions:
1. Should I do this? Is this a good deal?
2. One thing I didn't like about stock SGS1 (before adding voodoo sound) was that I could not have earphones plugged in and talk on through the handset's mic. The iPhone can do this of course. I find this important because I don't want to use an adapter and I don't want to have to disconnect my headphones in order to take a call. So... with the SGS2 can I use my headphones and talk on the phone without an adapter, through the phone's mic?
Yeah, you can talk without an adapter. If you can really get an outright trade,.I suggest you so it. The gs2 is a million times better.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Be sure you are trading for a genuine SGS2. There are fake SGS2's floating around China.
SGS2 is the way to go. Iphone 4 has a screen too small and the iOS has so limited functionality.
some info out of my family ( we have both here, Iam the SGS2 guy);
The iphone is clearly better integrated in terms of Multimedia usage; music stands and apple Tv along with the cloud services and music shops.
Also the battery life under comparable usage is much much better than the SGS2.
The new cam especially the video/HD recording is as good or even better than the SGS2.
On the other hand the SGS2 gives you more flexibility (I can play almost any video formats including DVD on my SGS2). The options for external connectors (external harddisk/usb drives) is even not available for the Iphone ( I really don't want to miss that function). Also data encryption through 3rdParty apps is much better and faster. For the Iphone only a few not really good working apps there for encryption. All business functions (read, write office documents and pdf) are much better at the SGS2. Connecting big screens and/or a keyboard for better typing is no problem with the SGS2. The WIFI of the SGS2 is much stronger also the GSM signal reception is much better than that of the Iphone.
The Iphone is for my taste much better for gaming as the SGS2 does have a new processor and many good games I used before are not or not yet supported.
I like the big screen of my SGS2 especially when it comes to web surfing.
The IOS does not give you a lot of freedom for MODS or enhancements. The android market offers plenty of them.
However, this is all from my personal point of view based on the experiences we made here,
hope this gave you some info for your decision

R u talking about iphone 4S? Anyway SGS2 is amazing, i quite like DLNA feature, i watch everything from anything that has dlna in my home network, whereas it is quite hard to get iOS device to do this ( my gf has ipad 2)! The big screen is the biggest plus of the galaxy s2 and it also plays flash smoothly even 1080p ))

I have an iPhone 4 and the s2. The s2 is my main phone. The iPhone is on prepaid.

Mind you the iPhone is modded to the max but it still can't compete.

Keep Skyrocket or go with iPhone 4S?

For the past few days I've been enjoying the skyrocket but I've been feeling a bit nostalgic after ditching my iPhone 3GS. I find the size of the phone to be a tad too big for me because I have to maneuver the phone a lot to slide down the notifications and the feel of plastic in my just doesn't seem right to me. I also feel that the phone lacks in music controls from anywhere whereas iOS double home press is so flawless. Does anyone have any tweak suggestion for this fix? Because If there isn't I'm just gonna go back to iOS since I feel so at home with it and with 4S jailbreak just around the corner, there's gonna be endless possibilities for it.
Thanks and Happy Holidays to all XDA members!
Man just give it some time you will get use to it. I gave up my iPhone 4s for this super skyrocket the thing is I love both platforms it came down to the screen for me iPhone to small yet better screen.
My needs are met I can't complain to much .... plus this white skyrocket is just out right beautiful

Man, I came from a 3gs, there's no going back. There are things I miss about iOS, but its all made up by features I love in android OS. I pick up my wife's 4s occasionally and laugh at how tiny the screen is. Personal preference, but I would stick it out a bit as I too had these same feelings.

Skyrocket should automatically show the music controls on the lockscreen while playing.
And the plastic, you just need time, you get used to it.

It really all depends on what you want to do with the phone.
I upgraded to the 4S before exchanging it with a buddy for his skyrocket. The ONLY thing I miss was the Visual Voicemail integration in the iPhone was better. But the Visual Voicemail AT&T provides is pretty neat too, not to mention google voice is another great option. Camera is great on both phones. Siri I didn't use much so can't comment on it. I will have to warn you, the battery life on the 4S has also suffered now that they've implemented the same drop-down notification window thing that Android does.
I agree a jailbreak will make the 4S a great device, and that's one of the main reasons I switched is because the damn jailbreak is taking sooo long. Here they've already rooted this bad boy, and made ROM's for it. Plus I hate going through iTunes. I would much rather drag-n-drop songs and videos directly into the phone (personal preference). Another thing is, LTE is enabled in both New York and NJ and the speeds I get on the Skyrocket are pretty awesome.
These are just the points I thought of when making a decision. I might switch to another Android device in a few months, but I'm done with iOS. It's stagnant now.
@abudabu. I agree with your points as I was thinking the same things. However I have been having audio issues as posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408545

I've had the phone for about 3 weeks. I did look at an iphone, but the Skyrocket really grabbed my attention. Winamp is great for music, and I also did not want to be tied to itunes. Even if you don't root and flah a rom, there are great customizations available through android market. Give this phone a chance, it is winner in my opinion.

Listen, if one gets used in a specific interface, other interfaces may look difficult to work with and master. So, if the phone is too big for your hands, and you have usability issues, why fight it? Go back to iPhone. Of course, within 2 - 3 months, the Skyrocket would be running ICS and the UI would be different again. I personally love the phone, I think that it is a great piece of hardware, but size and previous patterns of use is something that would be experienced differently by individual users.
If you want to stick it out, then you must learn a bit more about ICS (Android 4.0) because this would be the OS that you would be running the longest in this phone. My guess is that by the time there is Android 5.0 out there, you would be ready for an upgrade!!!
Get that sweet Iphone.. I mean that awesome 3 inch screen and all the Isheep followers.. who doesnt want that?
I had a Icrap for 3 days.. its so small and you can't do anything with it but look at it..

iPhone 4s is outdated
I can't ever go back to iPhone 4s. Maybe when iPhone 5 is 4.5", offered external storage support, LTE, and DivX, XviD, MKV support....then they've finally caught up.
Not to be mean, but if you have to ask. I hope you are still able to return the real phone for a childs toy. Yes i have seen a 5 year old use an iphone, and i think Fisher Price has some new iphone cases coming out next year.
^^^^^^^^_Lol true true true^^^^^^^^^^^
I agree with everything that you guys said above about the size and the plastic but it is lighter and the screen size is just phenominal compared to the iphone. My friend has an iphone 4s and he is always jealous of how customizable my phone is. I think that is the strongest part of the Android OS, the fact that your phone is totally unique to you
Let me clearly tell you who suppose to use i****!
Kids under 10!!
And Oldies Over 60!!
If you are not in one of those categories than i don't feel like explaining you the difference. Because I think You know the difference between the two.
One is Windows 8 and other is Window XP!
There you have my opinion and I m sure many will agree with me.
If you agree with me Thumbs UP!
Coming from the iPhone 3GS, I don't regret moving to the SR at all. So much more customizable, bigger screen, great interface. I don't even notice the plastic on the phone, because I always use a case on my phones. And, I'm using Go launcher, which is a fantastic interface. It took awhile to get used to android vs. iOS, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Keep it, and you won't be sorry!
See even former iphone users know iphone cant compete with android (skyrocket) You should listen to her

Had iphone 4 over a year.....loved it jailbroke it, had all types of things going on...emulators, remote control, remote access, you name it I did it...I sold it after discovering iphone 5 was not being relased in October and decided to try Android.
The HTC Sensation was a great tablet but horrible phone...I knew Droid had great potential but I needed a better phone to bring out that experience
Enter the T989....
Coming from iphone 4, I had high standards. The Galaxy S2 not only performed as well if not better on the computer side, its actually turned out to be a better telephone.
Sound quality, bluetooth connectivity, ear speaker volume...speakerphone volume
It soars!
Screen quality...is actually very good. Last but not least Pentaband phone....research what that means
I can go on and on let's just say that I'm wirelessly tethering my laptop from my GS2 at 4G speed and enjoying every minute of it
Get this phone if you haven't already...you won't be dissapointed. It delivers every benefit you're looking for in spades
Thought about buying an iPad 2. Couldn't pull the trigger because of the thought of all I would be losing out on. Got a 10.1 Tab instead. Still in awe of it. So much so I got a GS2 yesterday. As a Sensation4G owner I have to say these phones aren't in the same league. Aside from a horrible firmware upgrade experience this phone is awesome. The i* products have nothing on these. The arguments about build quality aren't valid imo. Nothing about either of these devices feels cheap. Now I know why Apple is trying to stop Samsung from selling these. I'm probably going to buy a Samsung tv in a few weeks too.

I would like to add that most people stayed with iphone over android because of battery life, but the gs2 battery life is actually really good. With the correct settings and combination of rom and kernel, the phone will outlast an iphone 4s.
another! 4g>>>>>3g
what most people miss about the iphone when going to the gs2 is the retina display. but come on... its a freaken huge screen lol, connect your gs2 to your tv and laugh at all the iphone users! muahahha jk.. not really.
well if your on tmobile, and using iphone u are sacrifycing your 4g speeds. iphone is a great phone. its just the screen is too small. i would use iphone, but without 4g and using edge, hell no lol
by functionality, Android, and that means SGS2 is better
a ton of people i work with have switched from various iphones (including the 4s) to the sgs2 and never looked back...

Why the sad face? On that page S2 clearly has better features although for some reason they seem to misunderstand ram as they say the iphone has more ram for playing games when it doesn't it only has more storage space.

It's all preference I just don't like the feel of an iPhone to small and the glass breaks to easy, and ios can't really modify it to make it ur own.

totally agreed
i have an android phone (my first) and im enjoying it so much but i like iphone too but considering that iphone is so expensive, the glass breaks too easily and when im searching i notice that the android community its getting bigger and bigger every day so if you need something on android you have a big community to get help
but like funziebear said its all preference
Galaxy S2, mainly because it's android and you are note bound by the limits of iOS, but also because (I think) the look and feel of the phone are just better.
You should also consider the Galaxy Nexus by the way, it's imo the best phone on the market right now.
Depends on what you want
I do think that Apple products are a little easier to use for the average (non geek) person, I suspect they are designed that way. And there is something to be said for that, but Android is more powerful and more flexible. I can't think of anything the Iphone can do that the S2 can't do equally well or better, at least with the appropriate apps.
Yeah I dont bash on iPhone that's what started my whole "smartphone" experience, I just don't care for it anymore haha I'll still work on them and jailbreak for friends so I'm still western of all it's updates and features I don't care to go back

I agree completely.
I think its like comparing apples and pears...
Thank you all for your help.. and I've gotten the Galaxy S2 yesterday and I really do like it I've had a lot of android phones on att and Tmobile. I had the iPhone 4 twice but not the 4S. Its just that android sometimes slow down or freeze but the iPhone 4 barley freezes or slows down. But I have the galaxy s2 and I'm thinking if I should trade it for a iPhone 4S
