Got an unrooted Asus transformer and was wondering if anybody has been able to tether from their EVO 3d. there are issues with WiFi tether on the EVO 3d so curious if anybody found a work around. Tried barnacle tether but the Asus doesn't recognize adhoc.

Why don't you post this on the EVO 3D forum? Any tether from EVO 3D should work. My friend uses the EVO 3D and downloaded http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta2.apk&can=2&q=
it works for him. Stock ROM + kernel + root

Full rooted with Revolutionary. And yes it doesn't matter if you took the OTA or not.

It's possible that taking the ota may have an affect. A lot of other people unable to connect either. Can you tell ne what kernel is being used on the EVO as I'm wondering if the kernel has changed with the updates. Again I appreciate your help.

Idk. I don't use the EVO 3D. You should really refer to the EVO 3D XDA forums for more assistance with getting the tethering to work.

I applied the new OTA last night, so of course I can't use unrevoked, but I don't have 4g service in my state at all so I'm just wanting to root my phone regardless of the issue they were having.
If someone could hook me up with the file I'd appreciate it.

got it at work. if you don't have it by tomorrow am drop me a line (PM) and I'll send it to you
I'm pretty sure you already had to be rooted in order for it to work in the first place, nobody has come up with a root from the update yet...
This fix currently supports the following Android phones:
Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic) that has not already been updated with the 2010-06-29 OTA update.

recalled unrevoked? was unrevoked overheating for it to be recalled? jokin if you were not rooted before the update then you will have to wait for a new root method. I do have the file if you are still in need of it.

I guess I misread this post? The way I understand it they released an unrevoked for the OTA that became available yesterday then pulled it.
androidforumsDOTcom/all-things-root-evo-4g/111390-unrevoked-ota-patch-1-47-651-1-out.html
Yea the unrevoked update won't help you. One you apply the official OTA you are out of luck.
Sorry.

Sigh, I was hoping to see the battery life some people were talking about with the custom roms. Thanks for clarifying.

No problem. I'm sure as soon as this whole WiMAX issue is sorted out there will be devs focusing on rooting the OTA.

Would this, possibly work for the Shift?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159306
I don't know Android well enough to know if this is at all helpful/useful for us Shift owners. I come from WebOS land and only got my first Android phone a month or so ago.
Just use shift gui it checks for the correct bootloader and everything
mikshifted g!
I think op was asking if this could root ota or gb stock roms.

Someone tried this method without modifying the files and got a device error. Maybe the files can be modified to work on the shift....

yes, i was one of those who foolishly accepted the OTA Gingerbread and lost root. I'm new to Android and didn't know any better. OTA updates don't wreck the equivalent of root on WebOS devices, which is where I'm coming from.

Ok Dude...I was so Drunk when I thought of this. Get the Sprint Downgrade tool A.K.A RUU TOOL. Use it it will Downgrade you to 2.2 or 2.1 IDK. Then go ahead and Re-Root

That's been tried. I think the problem is the OTA changed the hboot so the ruu image is incompatible.

Moving to General.
PS: Every Q? thread should be posted in General.
I sold my wife's evo shift on Craig's list and need to deliver it tomorrow. What do I need to change so the phone can be updated? Do I need to 100% unroot it, or just a change the rom back to factory? He likes that its rooted but its his first rooted phone.
Thanks

No you do not have to Unroot the phone. Just flash a new Rom on the device, any STABLE Rom will do. If the SD Card is going with the device your going to have to Reformat the SD Card. That way you don't accidently give away private information. That's it .

I'm prett sure you have to be on a sense based rom for sprint to be able to activate...
Sent from my PG06100
What Rom is most stable is a matter of opinion. I'm a Sense Guy so I'm going to suggest MikShifted G v2.0. Definately not stock, but close to it. With a ton of extras, Stable and Fast. You can try x99's GB Rom, very close to Stock Sense. Supreme Sense v9.1 which is full of Eye Candy, Stable, and Quick. If you want the latest Sense release for the Shift that is dead stock, only Rooted. I believe sparksco has one.
Im curious if anyone here in XDA is working on a new root access since the OTA 003 build broke root. I know Dale from thrive forums is working hard on trying find a way around it.
I was hoping he is not the only Dev interested in developing the Thrive

Hey all,
My friend has the Inspire on ATT and is still waiting for his Gingerbread update. He's tried pulling it from the settings menu and no dice. Any ideas? Has ATT pulled the update?
Thanks!

It's my understanding that AT&T doesn't update their older phones. I know I hadn't received an update on mine since the day I got it. That was last August sometime.

Your gonna have to manually update via the RUU posted on HTC.com. Keep in mind that manually updating will wipe the phone. Here's the link:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/inspire-att/downloads#420
It is the second from the top. Just follow the directions on that page for applying the update.

Be aware that there were some problems with the official GB update, like the stock messaging app not recognizing known contacts. That's one of the reasons why there's such a large number of rooted Inspires.
I had the contacts issue with my inspire and finally just rooted. Now with a new Rom it works great.

I was aware because it happened with mine. That's why I started using Go SMS Pro, since rooting and flashing the ROM I have no issues. I think I'm just going to wait until they get tired of their farm game and just root it and flash a ROM to their phones as well. A lot of people I heard from before I found this site said the GB update caused a lot of issues with the Inspire.
