What to do before you root... - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My mom's gonna buy me an Asus Eee Pad Transformer as a birthday present very soon. With that said, I just wante to post a question on what to do first before rooting it. Like, do I need to make a backup? What custom ROMS are available and what are it's advantages against the stock ROM? Does the root wipe the stock or can it be installed in an external media (like the microSD card) ? Thanks so much, I just really don't know.

Complete wipe after custom firmware? Possible?

I am a convert to the eee Pad from Archos. I am finding it really good but am thinking of playing about with some custom firmwares. I have no issue with doing all the installing and have already rooted my pad. Just wondering though how difficult it is to revert back to the stock rom?
Any hints and tips for me? What#s the best rom to start with?

How to return to stock?

I bought a used transformer this past weekend and its already running prime overclocked to 1.6ghz. My question is how do I return to stock so I can install the icecream sandwich update when it become available? Every other android device I've owned has had a one click restore of some soft but I can't seem to.find anything here like that. If someone could please point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

i believe first everyone will tell you to search extensively about your topic and the answers are available.
i will however help ya out with the specifics of what your lookin for.(and just so you know the devs will probably get you ICS before asus does or very shortly thereafter, so you might want to consider your options once you do your research)
your going to wanna look up the differences in device serial number versions the pre b70 versions and the b70+ versions. look into the sbkv1 and sbkv2(secure boot key). its very likely yours is a pre b70 which for now is probably good. the later versions have a locked bootloader and the more powerful tool nvflash doesnt work currently.
i belive yours is older (but be sure!!!) and should be able to utilize the nvflash method of unrooting/unbricking. this is what you wanna reasearch....
im in the earning process myself and want to better the transformer community anyway i can and im a firm believer that knowledge is power...............but also comes with responsibility
if you have questions by all means ask but you really should spend some time researching your device and this community and exhaust your intelligence before calling on someone elses....i say this only because many more experienced members will really get on you for asking questions you can answer your self... youve gotten this far your on the right track.
beyond that i will glady help anyone i can and im learning as well so im hungry for the info i guess...
Anyone see what im saying as wromg or misguided plz let me know....
Yeah mine is the original purchased in may.

Hello,
I agree with the question. How can I return to the Stock ROM?
At the Moment i have the Revolution HD on mein TF.
I search, but i cant find the answer
thx for your help
Heck the easiest way I know of to flash to stock is nvflash a stock ROM. Just did that to send back my TF for an RMA, No trouble at all, Snag a stock ROM from Asus website (or here on XDA). Search nvflash and you'll be good to go, Very straightforward process, really.

Thanks for your answer.
I rootet my Pad with Brks_rootkit_v7.1.
I think this program was made a backup from original stock rom befor i rootet my pad. Is this correct?
Can i use Brks_rootkit_v7.1 to become to original stock?
thx

Yep, if you have a backup from your stock made by brks rootkit 7.1 then you can put your tablet back to stock rom.
If you don't have a backup stock rom, then go to tabletroms.com and search in the forum for asus transformer nvflash unbricking tools, this is a tool from zerofeel. This solutions works really well and I use it to keep getting back to original stock rom, before I put a new rom and kernel on my tablet.
Good-luck with it and remember use it at your own risk.
But nvflash doesn't work with b70+, is there a guide to go back without nvflash? Besides that, i got the latest DE Firmware and i want to have a possibility to go back to stock before i root..just in case...is there any way?
I think the answer is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19339153&postcount=36
(did not try this)

[Q] What's your recommendation....

Hello community, I currently own a TF300T, but decided to upgrade to the TF700 after using the 300 for a week or so... I had a 15 day grace period to "try it out" per say... haha. I did that with a few other tablets too cause I just couldn't decide which one to get but now im certain I want the TF700. Anyway's... Its going to be here Monday and im pretty sure it'll come ICS stock and I was wondering what you recommend to do for me to root it. Do I root before it does the update? Is it possible to root from JB stock with out unlocking the bootloader? I know there are a lot of forums in reguards to this subject but Im not sure how old they are of if things have changed. Can someone just point me in the right direction or just give me a list of links in which order to apply? It would be much appreciated. I love these tablets by asus, dont necessarily like asus themselves but they make a good product and I dont want a very expensive brick. My basic goal here is to just be stock rooted with JB. I dont really want any special rom's atm. Thanks in advance!!!

If it comes with ICS .26 or earlier, make *sure* that you save the blobs needed in order to use NVFlash *before* you upgrade it to Jelly Bean. If you save your blobs, you will be able to use NVFlash forever, meaning that you can recover from almost any "brick" situation.
Check out the NVFlash thread for more details. If you upgrade to Jelly Bean before saving the required blobs, you will *not* be able to use NVFlash.

+1 -- very sound advice. No matter what you do when it comes in, no matter what you are planning to o with it for its entire lifetime, put Nvflash on it while you can. There's no way back once you upgrade to stock JB -- not for now, and there may never be. Once you have done that, your 700 will dance to whatever tune you play and there's not much risk of you bricking it so thoroughly you cannot recover it (relatively) easily.
(For reasons of performance, I'd highly recommend reconsidering flashing a custom ROM. That might be something for the future; just wanted to bring it up. )

TF0310CG

Hello guys,
one of my friends have the Asus Transformer Pad TF0310CG which is currently broken (it doesn't boot). Unfortunately, I couldn't find any (custom) roms for this device. The TF300T is the most similar product and therefore I asked me, if it is possible to install the available rom on this device ?
Thanks for any help about this.

[Completed] How to install vanilla Android or Cyanogenmod on ASUS Transformer TF101G

Hey, guys. I have an old ASUS Transformer TF101G which is running insanely slow (it's lagging even when I change the page in a boom) , so I decided to root it and install a fresh vanilla Android. The problem is, I'm new to rooting and every tutorial I found on the Web is for TF101 and is not compatible with the G version.
And even if I succeeded in rooting it I have no idea which Android build to install, how, and where to download it from.
So, I'll be extremely thankful if you could help me out. Also, if stock Android is not an option, please recommend me another option.
Thanks in advance,
Spas
