A Work around to get netflix to work on g2x stock rom! YESSS! - T-Mobile LG G2x

no one mentioned it but there is this app you can download from the android market called playon download it and follow the steps and it works with netflix! its only a 14 day trial before you have to buy but its better than nothing! ENJOY
ps after the trial its only 5 a month not bad....

Netflix is running fine with CM7 (NB #93) and Faux123 v0.3.5 kernel. NO build prop edits or whatsoever. It just works!
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

just install a custom rom/kernel and use the working no-build.prop-change version

yes i know but then i lose the a2dp functionality and i need that! with this i can be at work and listen thru my bluetooth and not bother anyone!

there are roms that support a2dp. i think netflix works on simple rooted stock

and if there was no such thing as bluetooth you would just use head phones and still not bother anyone!

why pay 5 bucks a month on top of the price that netflix already raised? i know it's only 5 bucks, but some of us are trying to raise families. every dollar counts.

I tried out it sucks your computer does all the work. No good at all...

Nah... I have a rooted stock rom, but it doesn't work. It works on CM7 just fine...but the problem I have is, that there's no HDMI working when I have CM7 (not unless somebody can point me to the thread that tells me how to get that working.)

I'm on the same boat as you are bud... that's why I have two roms and I switch back and forth loll
CM7 nightly 90 with Latest Trinity kernel

when im on cm7 the hdmi cuts in and out, bummer i sure hope netflix comes out soon for stock.

Found another work around for Netflix on GB 2.3.3
Go to radio shack and get a portable DVD player, then stop at the Red Box Kiosk at Walmart and rent a movie.
I am sorry, but getting a 3rd Party application that requires a stationary server and a monthly fee is not a work around.

I'm sorry that you are sorry... You're also wrong. This is absolutely a workaround in every sense. If you are willing to pay the 3rd party a few bucks, you can have netflix working on your phone regardless of the ROM or version of Android. Cool, it's not worth it to you. Me neither. But that doesn't negate its relevancy as a legitimate workaround for those to whom it is worth.

Netflix?

anybody got netflix working for the infuse? i tried the stock 1.2.0 and modded 1.2.0 before seeing that 1.2.1 is out and doesnt have device check anymore so it doesnt need to be modded but its still closing the program after i log in.
1.2.1 apk: http://db.tt/wDtOm1L
Yeah, I tried as well this morning with the same results. BTW just wanted to note my infuse is rooted.
Rooted infuse with no device check apk same result
tried. Installs fine, but closes after trying to sign in
I am able to sign in and utilize all of the apps features including navigating my instant queue, but it shuts me down when i try to play.

it only works with gingerbread on the hummingbird. on a snapdragon it works on 2.2 because quallcomm has a deal with netflix. i guess the drm support is different.

Thanks for the the 1.2.1 download. I was able to get the 1.2.0-No device check.apk version to install and launch. Everything but streaming is working (i.e. add to queue, search, etc.). One thing I haven't tried yet is to 'deactivate' one of my devices that I use to stream Netflix. Remember, you only get 6 unique devices at a time. I had to do this when I got my AppleTV2 and realized that between the xbox360's, blu-ray player and the multiple iphone/Pads in our house, that I had run out of activations (got a message that the ATV2 couldn't access Netflix Instant, blah, blah, blah... a similar one to what I'm getting when I try with the Infuse), so I deactivated the blu-ray and was able to use my ATV2 just fine.
Will post if this works.
deactivating devices doesnt make a difference. and i dont appear to be limited to 6 devices anymore, i now have 9.
What it's going to boil down to is to modify a gingerbread rom and most importantly a kernel to get it onto an infuse. That's the only way we're gonna pull this off.....
Or just wait. =]

i swear there are like 4 threads on this already in General. /sigh.
i have been digging deeper and had seen some... i just need to contact verizon to let them know which phone to send me since they are taking thinderbolt back. i played with the phones at verizon and this one after the update seems better. I am not sure.. the gps seems much better and locked on quick the phone seemed less laggy what do you guys know about the lg revolution
i know netflix does wotn on LG Revolution. If that's your make it or break it deal, then you need to get LG Revolution. No one really knows when 2.3 will release on the Charge. What we know now is really just speculation.
I hope you don't want to hook up the HDMI to your tv to watch rented or downloaded movies. I've tried doing that from both mediahub and blockbuster and it wont let you. The screen says it's a rights issue. When I bought the phone no one said anything about that.

Did 2.3.5 cripple your tether?

I posted this in two other threads but both got ignored.
As soon as I updated to the 2.3.5, tethering seems to be no longer supported. The option is there, but as soon as I activate the tether, 3G goes away. I have to turn off the tether, then manually switch mobile data off and on just for my 3G to come back.
Is this their way of getting people to finally pay for it?
Yes.. one of the features of the update was removing tether if you were not paying for it. No biggie though... you have a Nexus.. just unlock it and download one of the apps off the market.

Since my phone had none of the reception issues this update was supposed to fix & reading alot of posts saying that it really didn't do much for those issues, I think I'll skip the update prompts & keep my free tethering.

I am a little confused why Google allowed sprint to do this. Whether you you use the tether or not and regardless of how easy it is to get it back it doesn't sit well with me that Sprint is calling the shots with this phone now. One of the major appeals of this phone is the pure Google experience, which is now the partial Google experience. I wonder if this had anything to do with the delay of the OTA, maybe sprint was holding out until google let them kill the tether? Anyways, it doesn't instill a great amount of confidence in google for this phone and future nexus devices. I still like the phone and there is nothing on sprint I would rather have, I'm just a little pissed at how they tucked this into an update that was much anticipated and stripped some of our "pure googleness".
I don't understand this...i dont pay anything extra for tether, and i can still tether on stock 2.3.5. Why are some people unable?
i just flashed the new KE5 radio(found in the ns4g dev section), and im not seeing any issues. still on 2.3.4 tho.. i dont see any reasons to update to 2.3.5 especially if this is a problem. i tether wayyyy too much.

So I have a two day new Nexus S and I did the manual update last night. Now when activating the mobile hotspot the 3g or 4g icons go away and it does not have connectivity anymore.
Now, I have read conflicting info about whether this is happening just to those who did the manual update and if you did OTA it still works. Can anyone confirm this?
If that is the case, then I need to return this one and get another and just be more patient next time to get the update officially OTA. =)
Not that I am tremendously worried about the tethering/hotspot being free, but I am uneasy that doing this manually may have screwed things up in as of yet other unknown ways. Like if I do pay for hotspot/tethering someday it might still not work right, etc.
Thanks!

Did you manually update or did you wait for it to be pushed to your phone? I'm stock and wasn't rooted and I manually updated and my tethering both usb and wifi hotspots are not working.
Also I notice in the kernel version that it's longer than when I was on 2.3.4 mine says 2.6.35.7-g3cc95e3 [email protected] #1

So this popped up in my pulse news feed a few minutes ago when I was cramming in tech stuff over breakfast.
Any thoughts on compatibility?
Says it's for the HTC one series - think we could get it to work with the doubleshot?
It'll be a few more weeks before I can sit down and start getting into dev hardcore again, but I'm trying to keep up as I can and this caught my attention.
Anyone got any info out there?

Most likely soon we'll find them in an OEM/aftermarket version, or just plain stolen from factory and sold by workers for half price on ebay.

This has been available for a while now. No reason it shouldn't work with our phone, as we have dlna software installed (assuming you're using the stock ROM). I use my phone to stream to my sony NMP-N200 all the time... and it almost usually works.

Tv out?

Is there a way to display the phones screen on the tv?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Hmm a bit behind times are we?
Depends on what roms your running for 1.
Ultragen rom has TV out. I tried it, was going to use my phone as a smart TV function to see xbmc movies, and doesn't work for me. Maybe not the right cable.

It works on stock.
Could we get someone with a little knowledge to elaborate on this topic? I've been trying to get tv out my phone for two years. The ONLY rom I've ever been able to get it to work with is Ultragen. I don't like ICS though. Does anyone know of a BML rom in which tv out will work? Does anyone know WHY it matters what rom you have? Or maybe how to change something somewhere to make it function properly? I would LOVE to be able to get it working on Valhalla Final.......
I keep hearing ....its a matter of the right cables....I've purchased several cables at different price ranges...and hooked them up multiple ways and the best I've managed to get is a very distorted partially visible snowy screen with audio.
And that's with every rom.
From what I understood is it works on CM9, but there is a green line when you change the rotation.
Alternatively, if what you want is to display pictures or videos from your gallery on TV
and assuming you have Smart TV hooked up to your router. You could use iMediaShare
app, (or any DLNA capable app in the market) it works wonders, to stream any video
or pictures from your phone (or youtube) to your TV. Without the hassle of cables
and such.
Besides, I used RCA cables before with our phone, and picture quality is (outright) crap.
Thanks all for the input. Smart TV, which I just purchased anyway, is a pretty good option.
My main interest in the feature was the ability to play emulators from my phone on the tv.
I read a post FBis251 wrote about being able to sync your wiimote to your smartphone so you could use it as a controller for your emulators.
Not too big a deal, as I don't travel often, it would just be neat.
Once again, thanks for the input all.

As in why? doesn't the feature work...
and how? could I, an average American with a little bit of itelligence and common sense, fix it?
I'm by no means trying to take away from what the devs do, it simply amazes me, but there has to be a way of getting the feature to work.
I would not go as far to say the roms are incomplete without the feature, as it wouldn't be used that often, but come on guys, how cool would it be to have a multi platform emulator on the fly!?!?

Nope.
It works on GB. Go back to GB, stay on GB and use TV out.
@lumin30-I'm so sorry man. I just read your post and realized I forgot to thank you for your pm response. My bad my man.
I haven't figured it out on GB. I got it on the Ultragen, which I believe is ICS, so anytime I need the feature I just switch to my Ultragen backup.
Only downside is I haven't figured out how to get back to GB other than Odin, which really isn't a big deal either, just a little inconvient.
Tv out works on ics but has a green bar at bottom of screen in landscape but not in portrait. Here are instructions with pics and a link to a video. Make sure you select NTSC. For some reason default PAL. Also make sure your 3.5mm jack has 4 pins like the one in the pic.
