[RECOVERY] [EVO4G] TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) v1.1.1 [10/05/11] - EVO 4G Android Development

Introduction:
---------------------
TeamWin Recovery Project, or twrp for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features that we deemed missing from current recoveries. After a lot of hard work for weeks, we are happy to announce the release of twrp.
Key Features:
---------------------
- Clean, simple, intuitive Menu System
- Ability to save custom recovery settings
º Default partitions to back up
º Default zip folder location
º Default color theme (lots to choose from) (Thanks to ffolkes!)
º Default Time Zone (for more accurate time stamps; US time zones only for now)
º Zip Verification
- Ability to select which individual partitions to backup, and restore.
- Ability to choose compression or no compression backups.
º Compression takes longer of course, but you save roughly half the space. You choose.
- Ability to auto restore GAPPS on zip flash (for CM based ROMS)
- Ability to auto reboot after successful flashes (for the lazy)
- Capacitate Button functions
º Home - Main Menu
º Menu - Advanced Menu
º Back - Up a Menu Level
º Search - Select Current Selection
- Battery Level and Timestamp (Better safe than sorry)
Known Issues:
---------------------
- Capacitative Buttons sometimes bug out after a while, but this does not hinder twrp in any way. (happens in aosp recoveries)
- While working on twrp, TeamWin's top race horse ran off, if you find him please let us know. (Emo Horse was found!)
Disclaimer:
---------------------
As usual, use at your own risk. TeamWin is not responsible for anything bad that may occur from using twrp. We do however take responsible for the awesomeness that comes with it. Don't be a d3rp and use twrp for bad. With great power, comes great responsibility.

FAQ
FAQ:
Install as a Flashable Zip? [RECOMMENDED]
Download flashable zip from the OP and rename it "PC36IMG.zip" (without the quotes)
Place in the root of the sdcard
Power off phone (make sure you turn off hot boot or pull the battery when it's off)
Power on the phone holding power and volume down
Follow the prompts to flash it
Delete .zip (PC36IMG.zip) after booting
Enjoy
How to install with Fastboot:
Download the fastboot binary for your computer from HTC
Connect your phone and boot it into fastboot
Run fastboot with the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery path/to/recovery-twrp-supersonic-1.X.X.img
Does this back up Wimax partition?
That is an option if you chose. Recommended to make at least one backup of just wimax and store that somewhere safe.
Why should I use this over ClockworkMod or Amon Ra?
Feature comparison matrix!
While all three recoveries offer roughly the same abilities (backup, restore, flash) we feel like ours adds a bit more in addition to the basics as well as blend some of the more useful features. A few differences to hightlight:
USB Mass Storage mode (Not in CWM)
Re-organized menus with most commonly used features on top
Saveable settings for all preferences selected
Date and battery display (configurable timezones)
Ability to auto-reboot after flashing
Color themes
Capacitive button support
Go a head and give it a try! You've got nothing to lose. If you don't like it you can always roll back to whatever recovery you want. Of course, shift might go all Emo Pony on us, but he'll get over it.
I found a bug! What do I do?
Well you're probably going to want to post here and see if other people are having the same issue. We're also going to start tracking bugs on Github along with our project. This will let you see what issues we are aware of. You can submit a bug here: https://github.com/TeamWin/Team-Win-Recovery-Project/issues Be sure to include how you came about the issue as well as list your device and how you installed twrp.

Post all twrp supersonic questions in here, thanks!

Excellent job guys

This is just a recovery right? Not anything to do with 2.3.3 root right?

I personally approve this message.... I use this on my 3D, and i guarantee if you like Amon Ra, you will truly love this team win recovery.

36. That's probably the 3D's file name haha

Sorry about the .zip name, my bad. It's fixed now. A little too much copy pasta.

Many thanks to TeamWin for this, it is the perfect match for Cyanogen.

Quick question, are Amon RA nandroid backups compatible w/ this recovery? Thanks in advance, thanks for this awesome recovery and keep up the good work!!!

No, they are not. Sorry.

Does this support both scripts like amon RA or just one like clockwork?

Just one. We want everyone to adopt the new edify standard.

Will this work with Sense (based) ROMs, or only AOSP?

[DEV][2012/08/29] Multiboot v0.8

So I created a new thread for this so I can edit the first post for release-info.
This is the old thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133866
Please note that the multiboot-feature will be removed if you update your real system.
The virtual systems will stay on the sdcard so just reinstall the mod and you can boot your virtual systems again
Changelog:
Code:
[B]v0.8:[/B]
- addon.d (Multiboot will be kept on ROM-Update)
- working reboot recovery inside multiboot-rom(will boot directly into the recovery for that rom)
- working reboot into bootmenu inside multiboot-rom
- security-fixes
- TLS-support
- fixed sdcard-problems for NAND-system
[B]v0.7:[/B]
- added integration in touchbootmenu. This is no compatibility-patch - since now multiboot can only be used in combination with touchbootmenu
[B]v0.6.1:[/B]
- fixed some memory-leaks in kernel-module
- fixed stupid bug which prevented creating backups on first start
[B]v0.6:[/B]
- new hook-method with kernel-side code which should be the solution to most rom-problems
- fixed a bug which prevented mounting cache-partition inside recovery
- fixed installer-bug when TouchBootmenu is used on NAND
- reboot to recovery/bootmenu does not work for now. will be fixed in future
[B]v0.5.5:[/B]
- support for Stock-roms with Greenbreadmod
- added version-file(for updater which comes soon)
[B]v0.5.4:[/B]
- fixed problem with install-script
[B]v0.5.3:[/B]
- support for TWRP recovery
- fixed problem with virtual systems with names longer than 9 chars
- don't change 2ndBoot-script for bootmenus with 2ndSystem-support
- show graphical error-message when error was detected and copy log to "/cache/multiboot/error.log"
- experimental support for booting stock-roms
[B]v0.5.2:[/B]
- more configurable(via config-file)
- fixed error-detection. On early errors you will get back to bootmenu
- fix boot-problems for some roms
[B]v0.5.1:[/B]
- fixed crash of GUI when choosing recovery
- fixed bug which prevented creating important images on first boot
- virtual systems now are using nand-backups with real data so you could install backups of virtual systems on NAND
- installer sets default bootmode to 2nd-boot
- added recovery-option for NAND
- patch background-image of virtual recovery so you see if you are flashing real or virtual system
- reboot system if you click "Go Back" in virtual recovery(until I found a solution for going back to multiboot-GUI)
[B]v0.5:[/B]
- better protection against unwanted changes on real partitions(thanks wizwin)
- fix Phone for for GB-kernel(thanks quarx)
- set props so apps can detect if phone started with multiboot or not(for future versions of multiboot-manager)
- reboot into bootmenu/recovery now works
ATTENTION: reboot into recovery will open recovery for REAL system!!!
- added GUI for choosing which (virtual) system you want to boot
[B]v0.4:[/B]
- replacing all references to real system with stub-image(will be automatically created at /sdcard/fsimage/stub.img).
Now the recovery for the virtual system should be completely abstracted and it shouldn't make any changes to the real system
- a PDS-backup will be created and injected because it's needed by android-system and above change removes the reference
[B]v0.3/v0.3.1:[/B]
- moving original system-partition to another location instead of lazy unmount so she will be accessible in 2ndBoot-system and will not be busy
- fixed recovery to improve installer-zip compatibility. MIUI works now
- internal script-changes
[B]v0.2:[/B]
- "Install zip from SDcard" works now
- changed hook-method so it works with more ROM's(including ICS)
[B]v0.1:[/B]

http://www.multiupload.com/VY3U4IXRO1
2. install zip-file in CWM
Some info:
- The menu-entry "Lastest Recovery" is no longer supported and will affect your real system!
- boot the System-Chooser with the 2ndBoot-option in bootmenu
Bugs:
- Data-Wipe deletes android_secure

Developing Multiboot makes much fun and I really like the results but takes much time, so feel free to donate a beer.
Hey,
i have no "Lastest Recovery" but a "Custom Recovery"
Can i install your script or does it not work with this version of the Bootmenu?
Which rom do you have installed?
I will check if it's compatible.
Thanks for the fast answer
i installed the CM7.2 Nightly "cm72-111125.0850-NIGHTLY-Defy"
The nightlys should always have the newest version of bootmenu.
Where you downloaded the nightly? I only could find "cm72-111123.1710-NIGHTLY-Defy.zip".
But generally it would work if you install but the problem is that you will never be able to change your real system because recovery will only make changes to the virtual one.
That bootmenu has 2 recovery-entrys is a lucky thing which I use as trick so I don't need to modify bootmenu
But when bootmenu-integration is done and you have an old version you will have to update bootmenu.
updated to v0.4
See first post for more info
Gonna try this now. I downloaded your empty .img files but how do I create my own img's on Win7? And what do you think is the smallest size I can make them safely to use with MIUI or ICS?
I don't know how you can create the images on windows, sry.
Maybe I can write a little App which does this directly on Android.
I have to admit that the images I uploaded are a little bit oversized.
system needs max 200MB
cache and data depends on your usage.
I would choose a minimum of 100MB for data and cache. If you plan to install many Apps you should make the data-partition over 300-500MB
Doesn't matter, instructions for Linux would do too
Hmm..oversized but no prob downloading because they were empty, only transferring via USB takes time. 200 MB for system and data and 100 for cache sounds good I'll make them myself if you can give me the instructions, I have Ubuntu.
App to do this on the phone itself sounds good, makes it even faster, no transferring from PC Thanks for your work
The Problem is that I can't find a mkfs.ext3-binary for Android
Maybe I'll extract it from another phone which contains this.
But as of now, here are the instructions:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=./system.img bs=1000000 count=200
mkfs.ext3 ./system.img
The number 200 specifies the size in MegaBytes. I hope this will help you so far
Sure does
But like the poster above said, CM7 latest nightiles contain Custom Recovery, Stable Recovery, and Stock Recovery in the Bootmenu option for recovery. So Custom Recovery = Latest Recovery for your tool? I remember it used to say Latest recovery a few months back, dunno when that changed.
Oh, now I unsterstand what he wants to say.
I thought there is ONLY "custom recovery".
But if there are two recovery's it's ok to install. So you can use "Custom Recovery" for your virtual filesystem.
I'm downloading the CM7-source so I can extend and compile bootmenu and everything will be easier.
But with a download-speed of 170KiB/s this will take a long time
How fast is the virtual system? Could it be laggy because it is loaded from the sd-card?
the time from bootmenu to the boot-process itself takes a little bit time sometimes if I'm debugging.
But normally the booted system is in normal speed for me.
I think this depends on the speed of your sd-card and the usage of your apps.

What class brand capacity card do you use?
I'll be trying with miui and ics tonight
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I don't know which class my card is because there is no label. It's completely black
But I don't think I have the best one(maybe class 2 or something else?)
An APP for windows to create ext-3 partitions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824154
download link: http://www.multiupload.com/SV7SOY33MQ
I have a 8GB class 4 card. Will test it in a few minutes with CM7 as real system and ICS as virtual system. Do you know what happen if I restore a backup in the real system? As far as I know a backup will override the bootmenu, too. Or am I wrong?
Yes, that will override the bootmenu.
But your virtual system stays on the sdcard.
You just need to patch again bootmenu with the downloaded "defy_multiboot_vX".
I'm on CM7 latest nightly and got boot loop when i tried to install Galnet MIUI ICS on virtual system. Could you fix it?

[RECOVERY][CWM] ClockworkMod v6.0.2.7 Touch v14.4.6 | exFAT support (01/11/13)

IRC on freenode: #sk8erwitskil
NEW: I have created a script to easily update to the latest version of my recovery.
- Download this file ----> updater.sh (updated to fix typo)
- Put it on your sdcard
- open adb and type:
Code:
su
sh /mnt/sdcard/updater.sh skyrocket
- it will reboot you into recovery
- starting in v14.2.1 it will automatically start installing and reboot when its done
Note: If your sdcard is not mounted on /mnt/sdcard then open the script and change the line that says path=/mnt/sdcard/sk8sUpdater to match your mount point. i.e. ICS users may have to change it to say path=/mnt/emmc/sk8sUpdater

I have ported touch recovery to Clockworkmod 6. I will be making updates to this just like my other touch recovery. I have added a few menu items and tweaks to make it like my CWM5 recovery.
Looking through the cwm code more in depth i have noticed MANY flaws with the code for new(er) phones that use /emmc instead of /sdcard as the main storage. i have now fixed those flaws in v9+.

This is what the new dedupe format does. This is a direct quote from the original creator of clockworkmod:
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery now deduplicates files between builds. This results in way smaller backups.
Don't delete /sdcard(or emmc)/clockworkmod/blobs
Overview
I've gotten a few questions about how this works, so I figured I'd make a post on it.
Basically, here's what happens:
The files being backed up are hashed (sha256, not that it matters). Then it checks for a file with the name of the hash in
/sdcard/clockworkmod/blobs
So, if the hash of the file was c5273884b90d490134e7737b29a65405cea0f7bb786ca82c6337ceb24de6f5ed, it looks for /sdcard/clockworkmod/blobs/c5273884b90d490134e7737b29a65405cea0f7bb786ca82c6337ceb24de6f5ed
If the hash file is found, it continues on to the next file. Otherwise, it copies the file to the blobs directory with the file name being the hash.
ROMs and user data, for the most part, do not change too much between builds and backups. So, your APKs, system files, etc, are generally only stored once. This saves a ton of space. Especially between incremental backups.
Some of you may be thinking "well, how do I delete a backup?".
First, never delete the blobs directory. This would actually delete all your backups by rendering them unusable.
Simply delete the usual backup directory, and the next time you run a backup, all the unused hash files will be automatically delete (a process known as garbage collection). The recovery will show "Freeing space..." while this is happening.
Whats in the extras menu?
- change bootanimation (this lets you select a bootanimation form your internal sdcard. it backs up your current bootanimation to /{internal sdcard}/clockworkmod/ba_backup/. it only backs up the original bootanimation so if you keep changing your bootanimation you will still only have your original one in ba_backup.)
- enable/disable one confirm (this makes it so you only have to scroll through one confirm selection when installing something instead of having to go through 10 of them to click yes)
- hide/show backup & restore progress (this makes it so the progress bar when you backup/restore doesnt show up and makes backups/restores a bit faster since it doesnt have to show you the progress and files its backing up)
- select android_secure on internal/external (use this to select where you have .android_secure. default is internal, so if you have it on external make sure to choose this once to set it up)
- aroma file manager (file explorer)
- create custom zip (this will create a custom rom from the currently installed files you have on your phone. it takes your /system partition and /boot partition and makes them into a zip file ready to be flashed. the end product will be in clockworkmod/custom_rom/. this has recently been fixed to work on all phones/roms
- choose custom openrecoveryscript (read THIS)
- recovery info (shows the version of recovery and the build date)
- Special Backup & Restore (backup and restore your kernel/boot and /misc partitions)
- Misc Nandroid Settings (change time zone, turn preload support on/off (default is off), enable md5 checking)
I used the odin install and now I cant boot into recovery at all. just goes to a black screen.

Hope to check this out soon! Gotta wait for a more stable release though.
Slightly off topic but what are the benefits in upgrading CWM? I'm on 5.5.0.4 touch and have always disregarded upgrading with each phone I root as they all seem to function the same.

yes thats expected. i dont know how many times this has been talked about. /sd-ext is a legacy option in cwm that was used for apps2sd. if you can find a cwm that doesnt show that error i would be shocked. the only reason it doesnt do it on my 5.5.0.4 touch recovery is because i took out the part where it prints it to the screen so people would stop asking about it. lol.

[RECOVERY][Spice Mi-355/Karbonn A5][Karbonn A7] TWRP Touch Recovery!

Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

CHANGELOG for 2.3.0.0:
-Rebased onto AOSP Jelly Bean source code
-Rewrote backup, restore, wipe, and mount code in C++ classes for easier maintenance going forward
NOTE: backups from prior versions of TWRP are still compatible with 2.3
-ADB sideload functionality from AOSP is included in 2.3, see this link for more info
-Re-wrote fix permissions entirely in C++ and runs in a few seconds instead of a few minutes (thanks to bigbiff)
-Improvements to zip finding in OpenRecoveryScript (should be a lot fewer GooManager automation issues)
-Faster boot times
-Added charging indicator while in recovery (only updates once every 60 seconds)
While this update may not bring a host of new must-have features, this update is a significant re-write of much of the core TWRP code. AOSP Jelly Bean recovery source moved to mostly C++ code and now all of the "TWRP" code is fully rewritten into C++ as well. Now that we've laid this groundwork, we're in a much better position to pull in future AOSP recovery updates as well as implementing more great new features.
Since TWRP 2.3 is based on AOSP jelly bean sources, TWRP now uses recovery API 3 instead of 2. Some zips may no longer work if the developer is using an out-of-date update-binary. This API change should not be a problem on newer devices, but older devices will probably encounter several zips that need to be updated. If needed, you can try using this update-binary that was compiled with current sources. It goes in your zip file in the META-INF/com/google/android folder.
CHANGELOG for 2.3.1.0:
-Unmount system after boot to prevent some status 7 symlink failed errors on zip install
-USB Mass Storage code improvements
-Better handling of mounting storage during boot for some devices
-Fixed a problem with sizes of images (boot & recovery) after resetting defaults
-Fixed size errors during backup for some devices on recovery, etc.
-Fixed a problem with restoring backups when multiple archives were present

Tablet look:
CHANGELOG for 2.8.7.0:
-Initial ground work for software drawn keyboard (_that)
-Fix handling of wiping internal storage on datamedia devices (xuefer)
-Allow DataManager to set and read values from the system properties (xuefer)
-Fix crash when taking screenshots on arm64 devices (xuefer)
-Fix error message after an ORS script completes (Dees_Troy)
-Fix crashes / error when creating encrypted backups (_that, Dees_Troy)
-Add system read only option – more details below (Dees_Troy)
-Add resize2fs and GUI option to run resize2fs (Dees_Troy)
-Fix crash loop caused by empty lines in AOSP recovery command file (_that)
-Prevent duplicate page overlays such as multiple lock screens (mdmower)
Note: As always, be sure your custom theme is up to date (or remove your custom theme) before updating TWRP.
System read only option: Devices that ship with 5.0 and higher as their initial OS are using block level OTA updates. With this style of OTA update, the update script checks to see if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. Further, the script also usually runs an SHA sum of the entire system partition to detect if any changes have been made. If any changes have been made, the OTA update will refuse to install. Since not all OEMs and devices have factory images available, we have created a new feature in TWRP that detects if the system partition has ever been mounted read/write. If not, you will be prompted asking if you want TWRP to mount system as read/write. If you choose not to allow TWRP to mount as read/write, TWRP won’t prompt to install SuperSU and TWRP won’t try to patch the stock ROM to prevent TWRP from being replaced by stock recovery. The goal of this option is to hopefully allow the user to make a raw system image backup that they can use to get back to a state where they can take OTA updates again.
resize2fs feature: On some devices like the Nexus 6, the factory images include a userdata image that is the proper size only for the 32GB units. If you flash the factory image to a 64GB Nexus 6, the data partition will appear as if it only has the free space of a 32GB device. Using the resize2fs option, TWRP can resize your data partition to take up the full space available. The resize2fs may also be useful to resize system partitions on devices where custom ROM system images don’t take up the full partition space. Lastly, resize2fs may be useful in some cases to reserve the proper space at the end of a data partition for a full disk encryption key, should your partition be formatted incorrectly for some reason.
This new version also marks our first set of full builds using our new jenkins build server. You can track the progress of builds at https://jenkins.twrp.me and we have taken additional steps to make it easier for device maintainers to step up and submit patches to our gerrit server at https://gerrit.twrp.me to help us keep devices up to date and working.
CHANGELOG for 2.8.6.0:
-Fix daylight savings time rules for USA and Europe (_that)
-Allow mulitple overlays for popup boxes (Dees_Troy)
-Add pattern style password entry for decrypt (Tassadar)
-Keyboard improvements (_that)
-Update AOSP base to 5.1 (Dees_Troy)
-Reduce theme count to 5 and rely on scaling (Dees_Troy)
-Various scaling improvements (Dees_Troy)
-Improved handling of resources in the GUI (_that)
-Make scroll bar size proportional to list size (_that)
-Allow scoll lists to render without a header (_that)
-Make console scroll per pixel with kinetic scrolling (_that)
-Support styles in XML to reduce XML size and improve consistentcy (Dees_Troy)
-Various other fixes and improvements (mdmower, bigbiff, codelover, etc)
CHANGELOG for 2.8.5.0:
-Scale the GUI - TWRP can read the theme's resolution and scale it up or down to fit the theme to your screen's resolution
-Backups can now be cancelled while the backup is in progress (does not include restore because we don't want to leave your device in a bad state)
-Improve thread handling and move input handling into the main rendering thread to improve stability
-Make MTP work even if unplugged and plugged back in
-Unify scrollable list code and make kinetic scrolling feel more natural
-Fix handling of mapped zip files for OTA updates (CM12 updater)
-USB keyboards should now work on all devices that support USB host mode via a USB OTG cable
-Other small fixes and improvements
CHANGELOG for 2.8.4.0:
-Add flashing of boot and recovery images via the TWRP GUI (Find the Images button on the Install page)
-Fix some MTP related crashes and bugs
-Eliminate TWRP toggling USB IDs during boot if MTP is enabled
-Fix various adb sideload issues
-Improve threading of actions
-Eliminate separate thread for screen timeout
-Update libblkid to 2.25.0
-Use power button as back button on watch themes for easier navigation
-Add mutex locking to data manager
-Improve custom theme handling on encrypted devices
-Allow the stock theme to be offset by build flags so we can center a lower res theme on a higher res screen especially for watches with round screens

Can you check the md5sum on that file and make sure it matches 4056520ee7b13be01d42d785cca2b15e?
Hashcode, could you please make a flashable .zip file to flash in TWRP? Is this even possible? I'm not well-versed in fastboot and adb stuff (installed your 2nd-bootloader using fireflash). Thanks in advance, you're doing a phenomenal job with the software work on the 8.9, and I'll be waiting patiently for CM10.1 on the 7!
I own a Galaxy S3, and I know that when running ClockworkMod, I can flash to the Touch version's .zip from CWM itself, so I know at least flashing a newer recovery within a recovery is doable, and then simply rebooting recovery through the Advanced submenu.

As in, plugging in the .img recovery file Hashcode provided, leave everything else blank and just flash? Are you sure? Seems a little risky to me. If someone else can verify that, I'll do it, but I'm willing to wait for Hashcode's .zip, no offense.

Respectfully disagree,
If people start bricking their devices because of unnecessary flashes, the threads will be overwhelmed with people griping and begging for help...
Personally I am waiting for cm10 as well and have not even installed recovery yet on my device due to this..
But I do understand that twrp allows a proper backup and honestly is something all android devices should have installed

Unnecessary flashes? I don't see how having a custom recovery is unnecessary if you want to install any kind of custom rom, if you want to install CM10 when/if it's ready for prime time you're going to have to have TWRP installed anyway so why wait? If you brick by simply flashing a zip made for the device in question and have at the least a rudimentary understanding of the system then you clearly did something else wrong somewhere along the line. In conclusion updates are not unnecessary, quite the opposite in some cases.

You got wrong what he said. The user above stated that we're wasting hashcode's time by making him do zip updates for twrp (instead of flashing them), and he (the one you quoted) added that is better to update twrp with ZIPs since its less risky.

Either way, it makes little to no sense. I understand that hashcode has a lot on his plate but update zips are a simple enough process and take a small amount of time/work, now I don't know that about twrp as its not officially supported (to my knowledge) but an update zip for a ROM is a very easy process, I'm sure there's a bit involved in making twrp work for the kfhd but I don't imagine its crazy.
Thank You Hashcode for your efforts. An update zip would be sweet. Keep up the great work!

As in, plugging in the .img recovery file Hashcode provided, leave everything else blank and just flash? Are you sure? Seems a little risky to me. If someone else can verify that, I'll do it, but I'm willing to wait for Hashcode's .zip, no offense.

yes that's correct i need no one else to verify this but there's a video on my channel here>http://www.youtube.com/user/choppedncut79cutlass/videos <as for the rest of these space wasting comments i reply in the morn nite all work in the morning
So I got brave and decided to work with fastboot, and I can flash with the standard platform-tools procedure. I know I have fastboot using Hashcode's "getvar product" command, and booted into fastboot successfully. However, I don't know how to flash using the "fastboot -i 0x1949" command. Do I first CD to the folder that the file is placed in? A little help for a noob will be greatly appreciated, Hashcode, or anyone else well-versed in fastboot. Thank you!
I'd also like to know if the standard procedure will also work here. In other words, if I place the file in \platform-tools and ran the "fastboot flash <filename>.img", would it work? I'm afraid it would fail because of the Kindle's locked bootloader and how we're working with a 2nd one. Sorry, I'm very new to this whole bootloader thing and willing to learn.
Where ever fastboot is, I think.

[RECOVERY][i9500] TWRP 3.0.0-0 touch recovery [2016-02-06]

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
CHANGELOG for 3.0.0-0:
-Completely new theme - Much more modern and much nicer looking (by z31s1g)
-True Terminal Emulator - Includes arrow keys, tab and tab completion, etc. (by _that)
-Language translation - It won’t be perfect and especially some languages that require large font files like Chinese & Japanese won’t be availble on most devices. Also some languages may only be partially translated at this time. Feel free to submit more translations to OmniROM’s Gerrit. (mostly by Dees_Troy)
-Flashing of sparse images - On select devices you will be able to flash some parts of factory images via the TWRP GUI (by HashBang173)
-Adopted storage support for select devices - TWRP can now decrypt adopted storage partitions from Marshmallow
-Reworked graphics to bring us more up to date with AOSP - includes support for adf and drm graphics (by Dees_Troy)
-SuperSU prompt will no longer display if a Marshmallow ROM is installed
-Update exfat, exfat fuse, dosfstools (by mdmower)
-Update AOSP base to 6.0
-A huge laundry list of other minor fixes and tweaks
WARNING: This is our first release in a long time. We have a lot of new and somewhat aggressive changes in this new release. The changes to the graphics back-end may cause some devices to not boot up properly or have other display-related issues. If you are not in a position to reflash an older build of TWRP, then wait until you are or at least wait until others have tried the new version for your specific device. You don’t want to end up with a non-working recovery and have to wait several hours or days to get to a computer to be able to fix it.
Notes for themers: In addition to the udpated theme, we have introduced a theme version variable to the TWRP theme system. If the theme version does not match the version that TWRP expects, TWRP will reject the custom theme and load its stock theme. This change will ensure that people who update TWRP without updating their theme will still have a workable recovery. We have removed libjpeg support. The stock theme was only using a jpeg image for the splash / curtain. This change means that any custom themes will no longer be able to use jpeg images. It also means that tools used to repack recovery images with a different curtain / splash will need to be updated to use the new method.
Version number notes: For a while we’ve been using a 4 digit version number and reserved the 4th digit for device-specific updates. For instance, we find and fix a device-specific issue like decryption of data on Nexus 5, we would release that as a 2.8.7.1. After a while, some people would start asking where 2.8.7.1 was for other devices. So, going forward we have decided to change the numbering scheme to 3.0.0-2, etc. Our hope is that this version numbering scheme will more clearly identify that the 4th digit does not indicate a version change for the code base.
We need your help! The bulk of TWRP work is done by 3 people on a volunteer basis. We have pushed most of our device files to our github and we have a gerrit instance. If you have the ability, please help us maintain our official devices and/or add your device to our official device list. Thanks in advance!

BUGS:
If you have found a bug, please consider posting it to our github issues log. It's pretty much impossible for us to keep up with the more than 40 threads that we have for the devices that we "directly" support. If you have a significant problem that cannot be answered in this thread, your best bet is to PM me directly, contact us via our website, or find us in our IRC channel below. If you see someone that's struggling, feel free to point it out to us. We need your help to help us keep track of all of our devices! Thanks!

It is not working for me.
I have just tried the GooManager method, it downloaded the openscript for the i9500 and installed. I then rebooted through a Restart>Recovery from inside Android OS it rebooted but it was not able to boot to TWRP, instead it rebooted twice and went back to Android OS.
I have not tested booting using 3 button combination yet. Will give it a try and report back.
Update: So if I try to boot with Volume Up + Home + Power then it does boot to TWRP with no problem. Weird. I am on Wanamlite 1.8 if it works.
Update: Disregard after a second reboot it did go to TWRP when rebooted into recovery from within the power menu in the ROM. All is working fine now. Thanks for the great work. I used to work with CWM but TWRP rulez!!!
Great!!! Working well for me...
