So I have a Moto Triumph. It's well known Moto left out the auto-correct dictionary on it, so I found a thread with a few people who fixed it by replacing the LatinIME.apk (default android keyboard file) with one from their Samsung Intercept. I used the file they uploaded to replace my LatinIME, but when I rebooted it didn't show up as a keyboard installed at all. So I tried again using the LatinIME from my Optimus V and still no luck. I backed up my LatinIME.apk and .odex just in case but neither will make it reappear. Obviously I'm rooted, I've never had the problem before. Any help getting it to appear? Please and thanks alot. Also, I tried it using both Root Explorer and File Expert.
And I'm sorry I just saw the sticky, I should have read it. Please move this to where it belongs.

Hi,
I got wanted to know if someone could tell me how to change the keyboard to the old GoogleKeyboard.
What I know, and I have already done that but it failed, was to delete the HTCIME - and copy the LatinIME + libjni.* to my magic.
When I restarted I had no keyboard.
I tried to install the apk with astro
I tried to install it with adb
but it failed...
I hope someone can help me

pkg: /data/local/tmp/latinime.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
I am running nk02 ION r3 lite
I feel you mate.
I did an adb shell and delete the HTC_IME.
but the latinime does not install.
I got my latinime.apk from the french rom is 4668KB
where did you get yours?
r we doing something wrong?
I had to install Scandinavian Keyboard for it to work. After that, even the original keyboard works fine. Before I didn't have any keyboard at all. I don't know what to do for those who don't want that keyboard though.
I had my files from the rootme-rom
but afaik you need the lib files in addition to the LatinIME.apk
ok. I decided to restore the htc_ime found one in my hard drive and copied it back.
surprise, I got the what I thought was the latin_ime keyboard.
Hmmmm. is there any post with pictures of the keyboards, and features/download links?
No? Maybe we should start one?
can you link me your HTC_IME with your "latin_ime" style keyboard?
the one i'm talking about is dark grey to black, with no prediction ( as far as i can see) is that the one you want?
i got it from this rom.

I'm running rooted stocked 2.1...5 with this mod installed. I tried to put it in the system/app folder because there is some room in there, since I removed some apps, but it did not like it. It just kept foreclosing it.
Any idea how to put it in there or even replace the original HTC_IME?
could have something to do with it being made for the nexus one

i've made one from there, and installed it. I didn't push it to /system/app.
try doing that.
also make sure you are using the low res option.

First make sure you downloaded the "lo" version, since Hero is low-res. And unpack the ZIP. It's not flashable, it's just zipped for convenience.
And then you can just install HTC_IME_lo.apk from your file manager by clicking it. There's no need to manually push it into /system/app. (It's registered differently from the default HTC_IME, so it can be installed like any normal application.) If you removed Clicker.apk while you were removing junk from /system/app, you'll need to reinstall that as well.
If you really want to replace the original HTC_IME, just rename HTC_IME_lo.apk to HTC_IME.apk and push it to /system/app. I think that's what you were trying to do before.
Hope this helps!
Oh, sorry I guess I forgot to mention that it is running fine in the user folder after installing it. It's just that I wanted to put in the system/app folder to save some space. I'll try renaming it and replacing with the stocked file. BTW, I'm typing on it now and its way better than the stocked because of how much customization you can do.
I finally tied this and it's a no go. Still get FC messages. However, all seems fine when I install it as an app. I think it's because the HTC_IME.odex file which is tied to the original. Even after rebooting it didn't work.
Anyone know how to get that odex file from the new HTC_IME I'm trying to install in the system/app folder?
I couldn't find an appropriate thread to place this under, but this looked like the most logical.
I recently rooted my phone and installed a custom rom on it. The Smoked Glass v6.0.1. I find the default apps very annoying and found a way to make them disapear. I changed the .apk file in the/system/app section to .bak.
Well in this rom the Voice Search app is also connected with the Android keyboard. If I remove the Voice Search I also remove the virtual keyboard. The app is called VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk.
So I changed it to .bak and tried to install the android stock keyboard called LatinIME.apk. I also found the libjni_latinime.so. I pushed these to my phone using the SDK tool. One to the /system/lib and the other to /system/app. When I booted my phone up I didn't get the keyboard. So I also pushed the LatinIME.odex over to the /system/app file and it still didn't work. The phone ended up not being able to boot up, so I had to go into flash recovery and back up the phone.
So I am just wondering what am I doing wrong? I know this may not make sense as to why I just don't deal with the extra icon. But I don't know, I just want it perfect I quess.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
hi guys
i have installed the modifed Gmail.apk found here on the forum modified for showing all images from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847035 and it's not working for me, it always shows ONLY 5 images in preview, the same that happens with the "stock" android market gmail; i have a lg optimus one, modified kernel, firmware 10A for starters.
i tried to adb push the new file to the phone, nothing changes, then i deleted the modified file from the phone and reinstalled the original one from market, and i couldn't find gmail.apk in system/app anymore but now it works so do i have a ghost on the phone????
finally, what if i want to save all attachments at once like you can do via web when you connect with your desktop computer?? isn't it possible to save all images at once, they guessed you'd never do that on your phone?
to be honest, i dont understand why the apps on the android are not more user friendly. im all for hacking and mods but this seems to be too much, every time to mod things, hack etc etc...
thanks
gabrio
downloaded and installed latest build of illusion ROM.
its fantastic but i am missing the phone app.
its listed in system/app.
im able to make calls from the people app and from messaging.
I used ES explorer to get to System/app to delete phone.apk and replace it with a different one but it would nto allow me to overwrite or delete the apk.
id really like to try this ROM, anybody got any help?
in the meantime the only other idea i have is to reflash AOKP and see if it comes up.
going to use the same Gapps (justinbean inverted) and see if it changes anything.
any help appreciated.
