Automatic music player activation with hands-free kit - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

When I plug in the wired stereo hands-free kit that came with the phone, it activates the stock music payer app and starts playing music automatically. It also happens sometimes when they've been plugged in for a while, like for example when I'm watching a movie on netflix. I thought I remembered seeing a setting somewhere for this, but can't seem to find it now. Anyone know how to stop this from happening?
In case it matters, I'm using ICBINB.

Playing music through Mono Bluetooth Headset

I just bought a bluetooth headset today. Just a simple Mono one. I cant get my phone to play music through it for some reason. It will work fine for phone calls though. I can get it to play music through my laptop so I dont think the headset is incapable of playing music through it. Anyone try playing music through bluetooth yet?
Its this one here...

I'm not sure it can be done natively by the phone, I stumbled across an app which might be worth a try for you, I can't post links but if you search the market for BTmono you should find it, there's a free version on there.

What are the steps you take to play the music on the M100R?
In the HTC player you can choose which output device you want to use...
In Standard it is "HTC Sensation" - click on it when headset is connected and it should showup there...
M100R is capable of "Headset V1.1 (HSP)" bluetooth profile - so it should work...
- mwie -
Oh yes I found it! When playing music you hit menu, then go to select player and it will show you devices. Problem now is that when I select the bluetooth device nothing happens. I will select the device, click done, and then if I go back into that setting the phone is still selected. Not sure why its not letting me output through bluetooth :-/
Check the Bluetooth settings when connected - maybe you need to activate Audio streaming there...!?

+1 for BTmono. I'm a little biased though
Btmono works well. Just wish quality was a little better. Oh well! Any advantage to the paid app?

[Q] An app to fake a call to activate BT in my car (and listen to music)

Hi everyone,
My car has a bluetooth chip inside, but it only works when someone calls me or when I call someone. The BT chip of my car is recognized by my phone as an "headphone device" or something like that.
So I would like to find an app which fakes that the phone is receiving a call or that I'm calling someone so that I can listen to my music using BT.
Obviously, all that app such as call faker don't do the trick because they are just a sort of skin which is absolutely not faking a call the way I mean it.
Do you know that kind of app or any method to do so ?
Thanks,
KennyG9
i know what you mean, but there is no way that could happen sorry . (no app exist to date as far as i know)
you need what is called a a2dp bluetooth car set. that will let you stream music. (i have one)
other than that i'm afraid your out of luck.
but you could try buying the IO Bluetooth car kit (the one i have)
works well!
Oh, that's a shame .
Anyway, I'm going to take a look a bit more about A2DP, but I guess that I will not have enough motivation to buy one (and continue listening to music with my ooooold CD Player \o/ ).
So thanks for your answer Oly,
If someone else can help me in any other way, I stay tuned on this topic, even if it seems to be difficult.
KennyG9
Perhaps this would be possible if someone writes an app which uses the "phone line" not sure how it is called and how I should describe it in english.
But if you make an app which has a sound output you can tell it the type like navigation, music, call...
I am not sure if that does it, but someone could try?
Perhaps I could write a small app which plays one song to the call channel fit test purposes?
I have no headset or anything similar.

Tasker to the rescue! Just tried the following profile in Tasker, and it worked how you want:
New task: Prank
Call my home number (+ auto dial)
Wait 5 seconds
End call
I then create a tasker widget, and point it to this profile. Now when ever I press this widget, it dials my home number for 5 seconds then hangs up.
Tasker ain't free, or easy to get used to, but it's incredibly powerful. I think it has a trial period. Check it out.

Thanks for answer wnp, but I don't really understand in which way it's supposed to help me, because Tasker is really calling someone and really ending the call. Anyway, I tried it and it didn't worked because when Tasker is launching the call, the BT headphone of the car activates (ok), it rings, and end the call (stopping BT headphone in the car) 5 seconds later. It works exactly as if I had really done it with my hand. Or maybe I didn't understood well what you explained ?
Thanks anyway,
KennyG9
I'm looking for this as well!
Try AutomateIt or Llama. AI has a bluetooth trigger option, eg start an app (music) and it will trigger bluetooth and you can set bluetooth to default connect to a specific source.

Ok I downloaded automateit but how would I set this up with my car stereo Bluetooth? As the same with the OP in the 1st post, I don't have a streaming option, but I can make calls, and it is only while i'm on a call i'm able to play and hear other audio sources such as Pandora, mp3, etc on my phone. How can I fake a call, so that I trigger the Bluetooth to activate with this app?
I'm just sayin!
You can use an app called BTmono in the market for this. It can stream all audio from your device to your car reciever. But the streaming is only in mono because your car's bluetooth works like a mono headset.
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Ok I appreciate the help offered but the suggestions is not suitable for the problem. The problem that we're having is that the car audio headset don't have an option to stream audio from a Bluetooth device, but will allow calls thru Bluetooth.....if I have a connected call from my phone to my car audio headset, only then is when I can stream other audio formats from my phone, but once the call is disconnected, then I went be able to. So once again, are there any apps that can fake a call to initiate the Bluetooth as an incoming call so that I can stream audio from my phone??
I'm just sayin!
I also have a Jabra headset and can only stream audio when there is a call. It should be working as same. As I said, BTmono can stream all audio on the connected bluetooth device. Have you tried it first?

Yes I did try btmono, but I didn't see anything within the app that would allow to fake a call. Unless i'm overlooking. Maybe you can instruct how?

Sip applications such as sipdroid do change phone state. and SIPDROID is a SOFTWARE-ONLY SOLUTION. we just need a software that would make a dummy call...
I have an app called Call Reminder and when it triggers I know the phone is actually on a call state
I'v personally tried btmono and the other one and both failed for me. [not desire though].
On my windows Mobile phone for this i use an app that routes all audio output to Bluetooth
So I can hear music on my headset
The app is bt audio
Don't know if there is an equal app for Android

BTMono or Fake call
I've been digging the internet for a similar solution and stumbled upon a few pages.
BTmono or any of the myriad of other applications should work from what i read. It simply routes the music audio stream to headset/headphone audio (the one that's used for a call) which is compatible with a mono-bluetooth headset or in your case the non-A2DP car bluetooth. This is essentially what you suggested, by placing a fake call.
playstore - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bedoig.BTmono
The other more interesting option (i like to avoid having an app if the task can be done simply otherwise) is to call the 2 second pause function from the dialer. There's a thread about this over at this other forum. It describes the 2 second pause as a double star **. However i figured in my Nexus 4 the 2 second pause is simply a comma (,).

I haven't tried either as I left my mono-bluetooth at work today. Will try both out tomorrow and post my results. Both seem like plausible solutions.
Btmono seems the only one to have worked.

Steam music over Bluetooth for phone only setups
I've solved this problem but you need two phones. Connect a phone to Bluetooth in your car, use another phone to call you, answer the call and on the other phone press hold. You can now stream music on any of the apps on the Bluetooth phone until you hang up the call. I found this out when someone left me on hold for a period of time. Using Tidal high fidelity the sound is amazing in my 2006 Range Rover

[Q] HTC One X -- Streaming Music --> Static

I've had my HOX since last week. I stream/listen to a lot of music while working and use Etymotic Research earbuds.
I've been noticing that when starting a stream or between streamed songs that there is some static and hiss (streaming on 4G). I've noticed it on Spotify, Slacker and DI Radio.
Is anyone experiencing or has anyone experienced this with their HOX?
Thanks
EDIT: dammit, me and not paying attention. Mods, if need be, please move to Q&A.
I had static when I streamed using pandora.. Switched to sotoify, and it's gone. so im not sure
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I dunno if it's the same cause, but I have an issue where I'm listening to music (offline with PowerAmp) and when a notification comes in, the sound gets really staticky. When the notification is finished, playback continues smoothly. I can disable Beats to avoid this.

Bluetooth streaming issues

I have noticed that my MAXX HD will not stream via bluetooth to save its life. It is nerve racking to say the least. It is something isolated to this device as my HTC Rezound worked fine.
Here is what happens. When connecting to my 2012 Tundra it says it is connected for bluetooth streaming. If I pick an mp3 saved to the device it streams it just fine, but if I open Rhapsody or any other streaming app I get nothing. A work around I have found is to send myself a text message and not check it. Once the alert comes through for the new message it streams until I check it at which point it stops streaming. While streaming Rhapsody or any other streaming program it shows my ringtone name, when playing an mp3 it shows the mp3 name.
After searching I see this is an issue with various other vehicles as well. Anyone know a way to fix this? From what I have found Moto is not addressing the issue at this time. With 90% of my music coming through my Rhapsody subscription it is quite a pain to deal with.
Played around a little more. If I try to play my Amazon music through the cloud player I get no sound, but if I download the tracks to the device then open the Google Play Music app they play just fine.
FWIW this happened on the first sw, 7.2 update, and now on the 4.1 leak.
I wish I could help find a solution but all I can do is say it seems isolated to your phone. I use a jawbone big jambox at work and my pioneer in dash DVD player in my car. Both work flawlessly with the exception, sometimes they fail to connect without toggling Bluetooth. I can even use my jambox for media and headset for phone with both devices connected simultaneously. I spend most of my time with slacker radio, pandora or Sirius xm app.

Kinda a pain since my iphone works 100% flawless with the prius.
OP, which headunit are you using in your Tundra, Entune or non-Entune? I have a 12 CM 4x4 Platinum with the non-Entune Nav headunit. I haven't tried audio streaming unfortunately as I use satellite. But I can give it a shot on Fri when I come home from travel.

I have similar issues with my Droid RAZR MAXX HD and my 2012 Subaru Outback. The ONLY workaround I have found is to adjust the music volume slider in settings/sound/volumes after bluetooth is connected and audio is playing. I haven't found any common link between downloaded audio vs streaming. I have had issues with ICS and now JB with the bluetooth on the MAXX HD. My previous Droid RAZR worked with the same bluetooh system just fine.
I have a 2011 Toyota corolla with Bluetooth non En tune .
Mine has trouble streaming as well, but saved audio works just fine. Must be a Toyota thing. This happened on my windows phone too. My Bluetooth is a little finicky. Drives me crazy.

Sending yourself a text and not checking it will also work most likely. This is definitely a Motorola thing, I have been streaming with various other devices in Toyota's for years and had no issue with my HTC Rezound streaming in this same truck prior to this phone.

Another issue
I have LG HBS-700 headphones paired to my phone (Droid Razr HD running Stock 4.1.1), and when I receive a call while streaming music, The music plays on my external speaker while the call is ringing. The occurs from any media streaming app (Google Music, Rdio, IHeartRadio, etc). I've tried everything I can think of to resolve this issue (including factory resets), and I'm curious if there's a ROM out there for the Razr HD's that would address this problem.

This is a very annoying bug that was introduced with the jelly bean update. If you keep your ringer on, music won't play through the external speaker. The ringer will play though the external speaker instead. Its still not perfect, but better than letting your coworkers know you're playing the Dixie Chicks.

I'm having the exact same problem with my Droid RAZR and 2013 GLK350. Only with the default 'Play Music' application, does the car bluetooth system seem to realize that music has started playing and not act like the phone player is paused and report music metadata to the player. In Pandora, Slacker, Audible, Amazon player and any other app I've tried it's as if it the phone is not sending a proper 'I'm playing music now' cue to the car. As stated in the post above, if I go into Settings/Sound/Volume and just touch the Music volume slider the audio then plays and the music metadata the car displays is the last notification ringtone that phone has played. I've even tried putting a shortcut or widget from AudioManager on one of my home pages to adjust the volume so that I can more easily tap that instead of going through the Settings menu but this doesn't work either - whatever the bug is, the only workaround is an actual notification playing on the phone or the 'manual' volume adjustment. After the volume adjustment is made however, I can skip to the next song or chapter or whatever in the app I am currently using so it doesn't seem like the problem is in AVRCP. It is such a frustrating problem because it seems like it shouldn't be that hard to solve. I've had this problem in ICS and now the JB update that Verizon recently sent down. I was hoping the problem would be fixed with the JB update but unforetunately not.
BRZ with same issues
What I get with my BRZ, is it asks me to pair every single time, and it never saves the key. It's extremely annoying because I have to click pair on the phone each time when the car is on. At least it 'works' after that, but like someone said, the metadata is only read from Play Music.
I'd just like to note for anyone still having trouble that they should consider upgrading if at all possible to 4.1.2 jellybean. However, though I thought it was fixed at first, I will need to troubleshoot a little more, but it certainly has improved.

The problem I described above IS on 4.1.2. I haven't experienced any Bluetooth functionality improvements whatsoever in this version compared to the previous. It seems that many people are having the same exact or very similar problems with 4.1.2 on many different vehicles. Motorola seriously needs to raise the bar when testing. We often have to wait a VERY long time for any new OS releases for their phones to come out, so one would hope this means that they are thoroughly tested. Instead, we have to wait a very long time for poorly implemented and spottily tested software.
Mine is literally useless with Bluetooth in my 2011 Toyota corolla. Will not stream music from any player on the phone. Does not route text messages through the car. Sometimes it will route a call through, but only once or twice. After that it will pick up through Bluetooth. But no sound so I have to put speakerphone on. Like I said, useless.
I have now turned Bluetooth off and use my work blackberry with the car and it works fine. My old windows phone worked fine too.
Between this, the constant lag and freezing, poor home screen implementation, and sometimes poor audio quality, don't know which is worst.
Its been much worse for Bluetooth since jb and got worse again after the most recent update. Whats the point?
Not helpful I know but it is my experience.

Best Free Music Player that doesn't hiccup on local media?

One of the quirks of our idol 3 is that when playing music from sd card it occasionally hiccups which can be very annoying. I'm told that Poweramp has the ability to "adjust audio priority" and get around this issue. I'd like to know if there are any free players that can also get around this issue? It's VERY annoying in the car both for music and audiobooks.

It may be a Bluetooth issue. I had the exact same issue with my OnePlus One when it was connected to Bluetooth on my Pioneer FH-X700BT stereo in my car. That is a good description of the audio playback "hiccuping". I actually have never tried using an Aux line from the audio jack to this same stereo, but I don't recall it skipping during playback on headphones, but I don't use headphones much either. I have an Aux cable at home. I'll try it later or maybe tomorrow and let you know what I find.
Just found this on Reddit about the same thing happening to others using Galaxy Note 4 and other phones when using Bluetooth as well.

I use MixZing for static MP3's and I like it. I use Pandora One for streaming audio and love it. Listen everyday. Speaking of Pandora, they just updated their app this weekend and they returned the lock screen widget! I think it was not included on the lockscreen within Lollipop? My KitKat phone had and still has it.

Interesting.. I have the same unit in my car and have experienced this as well. I noticed it would do this with my LG Volt when streaming Spotify on BT. I haven't really tested it with this phone yet so I'm not sure if the issue will still be there. I'll have to check it out.
I read some articles indicating you can either 1) keep screen on or 2) keep wifi off to prevent the skip. Something about bluetooth priority dropping while in sleep mode.....now they may be on to something...the battery saver I use doesn't keep wifi on all the time but it does occasionally turn it on to look for familiar hotspots to connect to....it's possible my skips are occuring when wifi is coming on.....another user reported calls had issues as well on bluetooth when wifi was on.
I listen to media on my sd card through headphones and speakers and I'm still noticing the stuttering when WiFi is off. I have noticed that it's a lot less frequent after the update though.

Interesting. I'll have to experiment with this a little. I used N7Player for awhile a couple of years ago, but I didn't like the excess of it and all the files it left strewn in every audio directory I had. Mostly, I use Music Folder Player Full and have most of the time over the last few years. It's clean, simple, to the point. What it doesn't offer, I don't want, anyway. But I don't think I've compared audio quality between different apps.
I may install Viper 4 Android on a different phone and see what that does. That's not a player, of course.
This phone + viper4 + music app in your choice is a win combo.. Just wondering if we ever get viper4

I had this problem with my OnePlus One device and the only thing that completely fixed the "hiccuping" was to go to Bluetooth and disable "Phone", only having "Media" selected. It's like it was receiving interference from the phone via bluetooth.
